Lots of people rightly pointing out the XH1! Also a good pickup and likely the cheapest IBIS camera you can get! If you don’t need IBIS I think the XT3 with newer sensor, some more physical controls etc could be the better choice!

Awesome job covering all the budget options for Fujifilm. When Fujifilm drops all the new stuff during this year, people will come to this video and find great value :)
I for my part am waiting for the X100VI. Definatly will pre order it. And I'm very curios what kind of specs the XPro 4 will have.

Nice job covering the range of possibilities. To add emphasis to one of your final points, agree that shoppers should put as much consideration on the lenses to get as the bodies. For me, the big draw of Fujis are the lens options, the old-school solid build feel, and the chance to experiment with jpeg simulations to the N’th degree.

Bear in mind that in 2024, Fuji is coming out with a min. of three new cameras...this is great if you want one of the new cameras and also will help the price of certain cameras as they fall from being on top of the heap...as in the 100v.

    Hi Goughie
Great Video as usual. There's so much to say about choice when it comes to buying into the Fuji X system, but you've managed to capture the salient issues very well!
In particular you've highlighted two aspects relating to the current Fuji market -
    (1) the cost of used cameras/lenses which have increased beyond all reason, unless perhaps you accept that (2), below, also applies.
    2) stagnation, if not regression has occurred with the latest iteration of Fuji cameras/lenses. I accept that for the most part X-Pro3, X-T5 (X-T4), X-H2 (X-H2s), X-4, X-S20 X100V, are superior to their predecessor's but are they worth a king's ransom on a cost/benefit basis to replace.
I love my X-Pro2, XF18/F2 & XF35/F1.4 (still preferred over the XF35/F2) as my go to walkabout/travel kit.
Don't get me wrong, as you say, everyone has their particular needs & budgetary requirements.
As an aside, I do have an X-H2 (autofocus is significantly better than my previous H1), and the latest XF23 F1.4 (has weather sealing, but not significantly better otherwise), which I use together with my XF50-140 F/2.8, when on "dog show" shoots. But I don't love this equipment ...it doesn't get me out to take photos.
As they say ...horses for courses!
Your advice is spot on. John G.
PS. As you've no doubt gathered, I'm not a hybrid shooter, so the latest "iterations", do probably offer a significant improvement for video purposes.

  • @johngreenwood9247
    @johngreenwood9247 Год назад +2

    Hi Goughie
Further to my recent response to your excellent video - the XF18-55 kit lens is a must lens for anyone entering the Fujifilm "fold". Has not been surpassed on a cost/benefit by any of Fuji's later mid range zoom introductions! John G
PS. still have mine, now over 10yrs old?

I just bought a second hand fujifilm x-t20, with an 18-55mm lens, and its the best camera ive ever owned. I wouldn't change it for anything. I like the fact it has a built-in flash, its fully customisable, and has a d-pad over the x-t30, etc. I also like that it has advanced filters, and an auto switch, with scene modes.

x-t1 and x-t10 are both good options as well. At least in Germany you can easily get them below 300. Pair that with a few manual primes from ttartisan etc. or a used autofocus lens and you have your 500 Euro setup. Thats what i did and i love the look of the pictures. I only bought one new Fujifilm camera (my X-T20), the others were secondhand, and I'm glad that I purchased them before Fuji prices went bonkers. I picked up my X-Pro1 in 2018 for 300€ and change. I'd love to buy an X-Pro2 but they are few and far between on the secondhand market here in the EU, and if you do find one, it's around 1000€. Pretty wild for a camera that is now older than my X-Pro1 was when I picked it up. PS: Kudos for coming to my country and visiting my lovely home town of Ghent, instead of only going to Bruges, like the majority of visitors.

@@JackieDElia curious, because 26mp is my sweet spot. If these cameras get promoted to 40mp, and possible increasing the price and decreasing the speed, curious to see the reaction.
The trans 4 sensor and processor of the 2018-2022 generation was a giant speed boost. The trans 3 sensor had 25MP, trans 4 had 26mp, hence the huge speed boost because the overhead stayed almost the same. Same processors were used for 50mp medium format. Hence why we have so many AF updated during the trans 4 stage. Fuji’s newish clarity feature is the only speed hit that generation has.
Look at Leica, bumps up from 25mp to 60, new maestro processor, but a TON of overhead. So now turning on a Leica 11 takes 1.5 seconds.
I have four trans 4 generation fuji bodies from 2018 to 2022 because the balance of speed was incredible. No resolution bump is worth a slowdown.

I was thinking in a compact Canon G1 X mark III, as it would be in theory a Fujifilm X100 with the wide and teleconverter. But the more I see photos with it, the more it looks closer to a small sensored camera than to the rendering of a aps-c camera. I am thinking rather a X-E camera, and a 14mm and a 56mm. Meanwhile I will endure the slow pain to use my 4 megapixels Sigma DP2 which funny enough has a nicer bokeh than the Canon I was thinking about.

Always pay a little more for an xt3 over an xt2. Near same megapixels, but a way faster camera, and the lowest tier of camera with a modern enough firmware to support electronically the manual lenses made by voigtlander. Also a great refinement of the xt2:
    1. Pull out tab for the diopter adjustment
    2. Better viewfinder
    3. Better touchscreen
    4. Better AF
    5. Better interface
    6. Refined dials on body
    7. 3x the cut processing power so no delays on anything.
Worth the several hundred premium over the xt2.
The only difference is that the silver xt2 is a true “graphite” version with a special paint job, not just a plain silver like the xt3 and later xt’s.

Will the image quality still be good and is there a difference between these two teleconverters in terms of image quality?

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  Год назад

I haven’t used them! I doubt image quality suffers much because of the converter, but remember how much slower it makes the lenses, unless you’re shooting in bright conditions you’ll have to start to creep up the iso, and because of the length you’ll have to keep the shutter speed high too

I gotta disagree with the comment about the X-T2.
Is the autofocus on the X-T3 better? Yes ! it has phase detect points all across the frame instead of only in the center portion, so tracking is more practical, also the face/eye detection are much improved compared to the X-T2... but those two things are only really a limitation if you want a camera to work right away without doing a lot of work when it comes to learn the camera.
I've used an X-T2 for several years now, and it really is (by far imho!) the best value out of any fujifilm body available. The AF-C is extremely reliable and quick if you do the tracking yourself with either a single point or zone focusing. I had no isses shooting sports and wildlife with it. It's probably not as good as the X-T3, but it's 90% of the way there for maybe 60% of the price. Image quality wise it's pretty much identical, and even if teh X-T3 is a video beast, the X-T2 is not to be dismissed, having access to F-Log video with surprisingly good quality pre-amps for sound capture.
I rencently bought a Nikon Z6 and I still see myself going for the X-T2 instead of the Z6 for video just for those two things, even for pro video work.
Also, for a tiny bit more money, the X-H1 is basically the same thing in a larger body with IBIS. The X-T3 is a really safe recommendation, but if you're knowledgeable about your camera, or are willing to put down the work to learn the AF system, I think there the upcost of an X-T3 is very much too high compared to how capable the X-T2 is already.

In reality X-Pro2 to 3 is exactly the same as XT2 to 3 in terms of performance and the much better AF, and the XP3 even includes other improvements that didn’t make it to the XT3 (classic neg, saving AWB changes to custom settings etc). I get it, the X-Pro3 is marmite, but it’s still got some big advantages over the previous gen.

I think you’ve missed my point,
The difference here between and xt2 and xt3 is about £200. For £200 it’s more than worth it. You can also argue absolutely everything is better for your £200.
The difference here between and xpro2 and xpro3 is about £800. Now that’s a lot of money; that’s just about any Fuji lens you want. Also the XPro2 does have merit compared to the xpro3. It has a “normal” screen, and it also has in some ways a better optical viewfinder especially if you like wider lenses

Why xe1 when you could get the xe2 for nearly the same price

I disagree about the “cmos” sensor (bayer is the word you’re looking for I think) not giving the “Fuji look”. The Fuji look comes from the film sims, which the X-T100 has.

    X100f within £ 500,00? ...😅
You're having a hard time finding a used one for less than € 1.000,00 in Austria.

Gotta be honest... I would not recommend a Fuji to anyone who doesn't already know the exact camera model they want. You can get a Nikon Z6 with a 40mm for so little money these days and get so much more out of it than any older Fuji can deliver .... It just doesn't make sense.

my advice: don't buy anything from fuji now. fujifilm cameras are just like graphic cards were not so long ago, i see 10 year old fujis sold at higher prices than they were brand new. So for now just wait, and if you can't wait, just buy an olympus or lumix, trust me, you can make film simulations on those cameras too if that's what you're after.
