@@keith5824 Hi Keith, I have been planning the purchase of either the xt5 or xh2. With the intent of some occasional Milky Way use. Amateur Photographer lists the xt5 as the best FUJIFILM camera for astrophotography. Reading 'in-between the lines' of your comment, do you disagree? Thanks, Bill
@@wjpepper hey Bill, I do deep sky photography as well as wide-field Milky Way shots. My experience so far is those 26.1mp sensors are really really good at focusing in darkness and finding objects in sky. XT5, on the other hand, can be kinda difficult to frame and focus. It can be almost pitch black in XT5 while XT3/XPro3/XS10 gives you an excellent preview. However, those are typically when I do deep sky photography, where I would need to operate 300mm+ lens pointing towards a tiny region in the dark sky. For milkyway photography, you should be good. I find XT5 typically gives more vibrant and detailed images. The noise level is going to be higher than those 26.1mp sensors but it’s more ‘refined’ so apple to apple it actually looks more detailed. I think you should be good
@@wjpepper Another plus for using Fuji for astrophotography is actually x-trans sensors’ IR cut filter does not eliminate infrared wavelengths as much as other brands. They can receive much more Hydrogen-alpha lights making it perfect for showing those reds in Milky Way. It can be 2/3 as good as Canon Ra (the official Astro mod for R). With some tricks you can even photograph some beautiful nebula without filters
I just wanted to say: I have upgraded from Nikon D5600 to Fuji XT5 exactly because of yours detailed reviews, lessons, and other videos. And I am really happy with this new camera. I saved money for a very long time (in my region salary is near 200-250$ per month, and camera costs 1.6-1.8 price higher than recommended price because of taxes), I even eat much lesser. But now, having it, using it, just holding this gem of tech in my hands, it's making me really little more happier for my entire life. So, thank you very much! And thank exactly, EXACTLY you! =)
There is not an official XT 5 review that counts more than this one. Thank you Chris for all you do for us your followers from the Fuji XT Army. Being an amateur photographer only i can’t conceive life without my XT30 and my XT5 and I can’ t tell anyone enough the sheer pleasure that they bring to me and the role they play into this passion. Now, this pleasure would be significantly downgraded to a headache if i didn’t have the resource of going to your channel and being able to understand all the features that they have and turn them to my advantage and, like all of us, having you as our consultant for all things. Your work is incredibly valuable and I’m happy you know that through us. Thank you Chris, and Long live Pal2Tech!!!
I need this for especially product videos like ETSY videos not complicated and the camera will be on the top standing still and on the table I will show the products with my hand moving toward the camera sometimes so the focus should be good. Many suggest iphone pro but I also want to replace my old setup for photography ( I use nikon D90 but a good lens ). My concern is the focus capabilities and low light performance. Would you suggest this camera?
well done review-rapid fire but well done. I am new to Fuji after 24 years of Nikon. I appreciate your information greatly. Nikon seems to have a more robust level of educational offerings but the Fuji X-T5 has really captured me.
I cannot express how pleased I am to hear you say "I bought this myself with my own money" rather than "Full disclosure: this is a review copy, but Fuji has had no say in the this review, yadda yadda". Yes, disclosure is good, but I think the GOLD standard for editorial integrity is total independence. Even when you have not taken money from a company, even when they have no direct say in a review, they and you both know that there is a long-term relationship at stake, and if you were to say something truly negative, that future access to early releases, review units, launch parties, swag, etc, could be curtailed. I know buying your own gear is expensive, but I hope you will transition to that being the default for ALL reviews in the future. It's difficult to cover an industry or company without engaging that industry or company directly, but I think it's important and valuable.
Even if you buy the product, you will still refrain from negative comments as much if you are influenced by the manufacturer (e.g on going relationship or future relationship)
I bought the XT5 about a month ago and i love it! I was a Canon shooter a while back and drifted away from digital cameras to taking pictures with iPhones. With the XT5, I went back to what got me to photography in the first place, the enjoyment of the process and the art of taking pictures. Your review confirmed that I made the right decision going with Fuji and with XT5. Thanks for bringing so much useful content.
The substance of the review is fantastic, but can we appreciate the storytelling here? I have never owned a Fuji, but this man speaks with so much passion I damn near pulled out my credit card. The enthusiasm escapes the screen and touches everyone listening. Amazing work!
After 6 years I finally traded my XT3 for XT5. Thanks Pal. You are the best Fujifilm authority on RUclips and I don’t say that lightly. I’m an experienced and proficient tech user and the way you deliver the information as well as the information itself puts you in another league.
I have had my Fujifilm XT5 now for about 3 1/2 months, and I absolutely love love this camera. I did a Calendar last year of my landscape photography and I was able to purchase an extra five with the profits that I made from my calendar and it's been a game changer for me. I couldn't imagine me going back to my full frame Nikon D850. There are so many benefits with using a smaller camera, and I really love the Fujifilm colour science in the XT5. It's an epic camera it really is. I cannot fault it to be honest and I've done just about everything with it from shooting a wedding to landscapes to Street Photography you name and I've done it all. And it passed with flying colours.
The best thing about your videos is the pure honesty in your conclusions, which is why I keep coming back to your videos and put you near the top of camera reviewers on YT.
The XT5 is my first camera with IBIS and honestly im amazed. After getting back into the hobby after a few years off i couldn't believe how far we've come with stabilization. Leaning the camera against something (in this case, a railing) allowed me to take exposures up to 1.5s long that are pin sharp. It blew my mind compared to my old Canon 7D Mk1.
It is hard to fathom how much work and research has gone into this video, thank you so much Chris. Nobody does it like you!! You deserve a team like DP Review had
This is THE video for the XT-5; answers all my questions- and I had a LOT of them! Thank you so much for your time, energy and expertise- enjoyed every moment😊
Being brand new to photography I spent nearly 6 months chosing my first setup. I went with a Fugifilm XT5. I chose the fugifilm because of you Chris. Your hardwork and passion sealed the deal for me. There is so much value in your videos for a new photographer. Thank You
How is going with photography? I am, as you were, looking for my first photography set up! I am more oriented to get the Canon R8 to start, but I am considering every options... thats why I am watching this video. So, what is your experience with your new XT5?
@@williamcordella I could not have chosen a better camera. I’m thrilled with the X-T5 for my style of shooting. Depends what you’re getting into. If you want to shoot high-speed sports or tons of very low-light scenarios, there could be better options.
@@williamcordella You’d be fine with all of that. I meant more like indoor sports photography. I’d recommend something else for that. But indoor portraits, even low light…no problem at all. It’s a VERY professional camera. Get some great glass, and you’re set!
I came to the X-T5 from a X-T1. I bought my X-T1 not long after it came out. It is a photographer's camera and I will have it converted for infrared photography. The X-T5 is a huge change and I'm already in love with it. I will take your advice and learn about the focus modes and get that sorted in my old brain. Thanks for the thorough review.
The X-T5 is by far the best camera I’ve ever owned. I really wanted silver, but due to not being in stock, I opted for black. Regardless, I absolutely LOVE the camera. Everything I wanted in the X-T4 (with the exception of the option to have the shutter close while changing lenses) I got with the X-T5.
I'm not dinging you on your preference (silver vs. black) by any means, because I prefer it as well, but sparkes a thought I've had for several years now..... Back in the day (early 70's) consumer cameras were silver/black and pro cameras were all black. I can't tell you how much I wish I had the extra $$$ for an all black Minolta SRT-102 compared to the silver model as it was a few points up on the status scale to have an all-black-perceived-as-pro-camera (the price difference was about $40 extra for all black). I had stretched my budget far enough though, and settled for the silver version. In the digital world I love the chrome versions because they harken back to a time from decades past, where most cameras were silver/black, enhancing a nostalgic memory, while at the same time reflecting about how perceptions and the "cool" factor flip-flop. Long live FUJI, and thanks Daniel, for prompting this thought 👍
@@thestonerguy5276 that’s really insightful, thanks for sharing! It was only yesterday that my wife was talking about the odd cyclical nature of what’s trendy/fashionable. It seems this applies to cameras, too!
If you'd like for your camera to have a retro look, there is always the non-destructive option of camera skins! see them as a screenprotector but for your camera body. There's retro wraps out there for the xt-5 that make it look retro!
I moved from an X-T2 to theX-T5. I shoot a lot of sports of my grandson lacrosse games. I shoot using just with the EVF and a 100-400mm lens. I shot a game several weeks ago, shooting over 12oo shots and still had 50% battery left when I set up the EVF and eye sensor only. The auto focus is so much better than the X-T2, although in very low light scenes, I still get a few misses, but the 40mp let me crop the shots to produce a great picture. Very good review, I appreciate the hints on the use of the camera.
Detailled and great review as ever, didn't expect less from you. I bought a X-T3 just last year and i probally will not be interested in a new body for at lest 3, maybe 5 years, i still enjoy and watch every single one of your videos, just because i like your entertaining and educative style. Came to this channel for learning about the X-T3, stayed because of who you are. And you kept HAL9000 even after remaking your studio, that's about 2001 extra points in my book. I guess that's enough of a praise for today lol Greetings from Luxembourg.
@@andrius_magic Same here. I have the T3 & T4. I don’t know what Fuji could do to make me upgrade to the T5 or T6. There was a Craigslist H2 selling for the same price as a T5. Really good deal. I wasn’t interested. Right now the T3 & T4 are good enough for me. Not in the market for new gear. In two years who knows. The T5 is a wonderful camera. It isn’t so much more wonderful than the gear I own now. I am in the good enough is good enough place right now. It was worth the wait for your this review of the T5 Chris. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Thank you for your great and honest videos. I have been shooting Nikon since the late 80s. As I get older, I find that I am not taking my camera equipment out as often because it is too big and heavy. After watching your educational and review videos, you convinced me to get rid of Nikon completely and go with Fujifilm. I just picked up the X-T5 and I am loving it. It is small and light weight and I hardly notice that I am carrying around great camera gear. Shooting with it takes me back to the old film days of the FM2n. I love the dials on top. The image quality with the small Fujifilm lenses is incrediible. Going from Nikon was a little scary but your videos have answered almost all of the questions that I could come up with. Thank you for what you do and keep up the great work. It is very much appreciated.
Im new to Fuji, but had the budget for X-T5, and i do love it! It has brought the love of handling a camera, with both the controls, and film sims…just really happy with it. Great video Chris!
Dude, I just watched this and, honestly, the conclusion made me teary. I’m 50 years old, and I can’t ever remember getting involved in a tech brand to which I felt such a connection. Your summing up here is so open and honest. I’m in the second year of a creative masters degree, and I got an X-T30 II last year. We made a film in a festival called « Les 48 Heures » in Nîmes in southern France last month (students are given 48 hours to conceptualise, shoot and edit a five-minute movie), and thanks to you I knew how to use the box (at least on a slightly-better-than-rudimentary level). We shot the entire thing on my camera with the 18-55mm kit lens. The films were shown on a cinema screen at the end (!), and I couldn’t believe how good it looked. What we did wasn’t exactly the most professional thing in the world, but I was so impressed by the camera. Your videos really are amazing. So, so useful. I just wanted to say thanks for making me feel as though I made the right decision. You passion for Fujifilm is incredibly infectious. I’m already planning buying another box, which is why I watched this review. I’m now planning to get the HS2 when (if) I can justify it. So thanks. Don’t stop, man.
Excellent as always, and worth waiting for. Already lots of valuable tips and information, your future tutorials will be essential viewing. Don’t know what the X-T community would do without you. Thank you Chris!
Absolute top drawer video this. The professionalism and knowledge shared is unmatched. Too many review videos are banged out as fast as possible while this one has taken 6 months, it really shows. This takes camera videos on RUclips to a new level thanks Chris 👍🇬🇧
Second to none. You are the gold standard for this brand. I saw alot of reviews that were published the day it was released from guys who used it for a few weeks. They all felt like commercials. This is the only review I was waiting for. Thanks for all you do.
Wow! That was worth waiting for Chris. What a lot of info you managed to pack into a short video. Thanks so much for all the work this must have involved. It just proves the value of my $$ support for your channel (hint hint everyone!). In particular, the info about making the best use of the autofocus was very helpful because - as you know - some of the early reviewers found the autofocus a bit unreliable. Like you, I've had the problem of the focus box telling me I had something in focus when it actually wasn't, but from what you say it could well have been user error. I look forward to your future vids about that and the other detailed functions of this amazing camera. Thanks again.
I bought X-T5 as my first camera 4 months ago. I've never regretted my choice a single time. It's amazing. BTW I like to use it in a really good way. Just get one of the latest sharpest lenses: 18/23/33/56mm, and set up a teleconverter to a function key. On a 40MP sensor it works insanely well, like having 3 lenses without any detail loss in most of cases.
Hell yeah! I bought an X-T2 (with kit lens) on sight as a Christmas present last year, as my first real camera. I never really impulse-buy anything and I thought I would be kicking myself a week later for wasting so much money. I'm still happy with it nearly half a year later now and it's been an incredible investment into getting me outside the house more often.
You nailed this video, thank you. I definitely respect the honesty. I for one was waiting for the XT-5, I really like how you leveled the playing field. Thanks again.
Wow, great review Chris. I’ve just recently purchased a mint X-T4 after hesitating whether or not to wait and shell out more for the X-T5 but you’ve confirmed that I made the right decision.
Great presentation Chris as usual. Since I got my first XT camera, I have almost always switched to the new models and never regretted that. But I still don’t like the flip-out LCD screen in the XT4. Also, I haven’t been that impressed with its autofocus when it comes to bird photography. After watching your video, I’m one step closer to replace the XT4 and move on to XT5. Thank you Chris for your wonderful contributions for us - the users/photographers.
Wow, thank you so much my friend. 🙏 I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account and am trying to get help. Thank you so much for supporting the channel!! I really appreciate it!! Cheers! 🙏 👍
Whew! Thank goodness that your review is so positive as I have already just purchased one - upgrading from the X-T2. Confirms my conclusions. Looking forward to the other videos about using the other features to their full potential. I hope that Fuji check out your output. They should be VERY grateful.
This is a fabulous review! I've had my XT5 since January, having upgraded from the XT3, and you hit on all of the key features that make the 5 so remarkable. I'm looking forward to the video tutorials you plan on releasing in the near future. Great work.
I have an XT-4, and I'm certainly going to stay with that. My camera is one year old now, there's no need to upgrade and I just love the articulating screen of the XT-4. Maybe the XT-6 will be the one
Thank you! I think this is one of the best reviews of any camera that I have seen - clear, detailed with no silly waffling, and honest about pros and cons.
Purchased an X-E4 as my first camera maybe 8 months ago and considering moving to the X-T5 for the weather resistance and for more physical controls. The new processor and sensor appeal to me too.
I have the X-E4 & X-T4 & am a retired senior (non video) hobby photographer. The X-T4 , in my case, is more camera than I need. The X-E4 is definitely coming with me on an international vacation later this year.
@@OldIrishGuy Do you find the X-T5 too limiting for bird photography? I prefer so many things on the XT5 over the XH2, but I could see the XH2 buffer being a lifesaver for BIF.
Thanks for this Chris - it matches my experience 100%. Coming from an X-T3 I upgraded to an X-H2 and then when the X-T5 came out I grabbed one as well. Makes me pretty deep into Fuji! Over the last 6 or so months I've settled into a pattern. The X-H2 is my bird photography goto camera. It gets a HUGE amount of use as I've made a point of going out every day and taking shots. Fitted with the 150-600mm zoom it delivers. Sure the autofocus struggles in low light but I don't think you can expect too much more. The ability to crop right in plus the dynamic range make new photo opportunities possible. The X-T5 is my family camera. Our pets, family and friends all shine (with the 56mm F1.2) and with IBIS being able to shoot at low shutter indoors is fantastic. In terms of ergonomics with the big lens the bigger hand grip is better. I also find myself preferring the PASM dial (shock) - those custom settings on a dial are magic. One set for auto-focus one set for manual focus with birds on the first 2 and people on the second 2. One flick of the dial and I'm immediately where I need to be. Both cameras are great - the best? well that depends on what you do!
I have owned a lot of nice cameras over the past 55+ years. The full transition to digital came in 2014 with a Nikon D7100. It was never quite "there" and I always felt that the images were soft--with both Sigma & Nikkor lenses. The X-T5 brings the fun of mechanical cameras into the present. Oh, and it's beyond interesting that those same Nikkor lenses (using a Fringer adapter) are tack sharp now. A little over a month using the Fuji and I am not looking back! I am though looking forward to more of your video's, Chris!
And here I am still using my beloved XT-1. Great colours, great usability. Only when the light drops i could use some stab. It’s ok though, I never used ibis so nothing lost here.
The XT5 is superb, I moved from the XT3for the Ibis and the same rear screen as the XT3, A/F is amazing, IBIS is a sheer joy and although I wasn't fussed about the 40MP but I am now it is superb. Cheers Chris.
I'm only about 6 min in your video and I can't believe how good this content is. Feels like watching a movie or something... I edit videos myself and I can tell this is a LOT of work! thanks for the amazing content.
Man, and I have an X-T1… There are so many things I love about it, though. I like that the exposure compensation dial is bigger and goes out to the edge of the body. Makes it easier to use. I frequently change my photometry settings as light and scenes change. This looks to be much easier on the X-T1. I just started using back-button focus and this feels pretty natural on the X-T1. I assume this is done on the X-T5 with the AF-ON button that is where the AE button is on the X-T1. Arguably, this makes the X-T5's placement more ergonomic than the X-T1. I would LOVE to have all those film sims on mine and that's the main reason I would upgrade but that photometry dial…
Thank you so much for this review. You dive so much deeper into all those options and give very helpful hints and tips. It was worth waiting six months 🤩
Hello, after thinking about it a lot, I bought my first Fujifil camera and also my first digital camera with interchangeable lenses, I like architecture, travel and landscape photography (I am a simple amateur) I loved your video, thank you, greetings from Bogotá
Thank you for this review! I have a X-T5 with a host of Fuji lenses and I came from the X-T30. I wanted to say that your style of videos are very entertaining and I just feel better after watching you than I did before. You are much appreciated!
Thanks Chris for waiting to make a thorough XT-5 review. I'd rather have a complete review than a fast review as so many other content providers focus on. I waited to buy my XT-3 until the price for a new one dropped to $900. The trick was not waiting until they discontinued and ran out. I'd like to do the same with the XT-5. What's the best way to find that financial "sweet spot"? Thanks again for all your work.
❤🎉 Thank you, you are still the best teacher in the fujifilm area and the videos are nice and fun to watch again and again 😂 a bit like watching the same movie over and over as a kid 😅
What an amazing review, definitely world class. The sentimental touch at the ending makes a phenomenal closing for a camera review video. I'm a fan now.
Both excellent and entertaining! Thanks, Chris. I too ordered my X-T5 on day one along with the 18 1.4 prime. I’ve never seen such incredibly detailed files with any camera I’ve ever owned, including full frame. Good things come to those who wait, and your review was well worth waiting for! Keep up the good work!
As an X-T4 user & fan, thank you for defining the pros & cons of the X-T5, so well. One thing that I really love in Fujifilm cameras generally is the fantastic colour reproduction, which is so similar to the Fuji slide film of days gone by. I believe that one has to spend big money on cameras such as Leica, Hassleblad, etc to get the same depth & quality of colours as Fuji. Cheers👍
Excellent review Chris! I'm on the fence about an upgrade from my X-H1. I'm trying to be realistic about my needs. One thing you hinted at, and I hope you do an in depth video, it the difference between the de-mosaic differences in software. For instance, I just purchased DxO Pure Raw 3 and notice a big difference in quality compared to Adobe Camera Raw in handling X Trans files. Pure Raw 3 does a great job, especially with problem files such as busy foliage and higher ISO. In a RUclips world of click bait reviewers, you are a breath of fresh air with your down to earth posts.
As a X-T4 user (it's my first fuji, I'm a pentaxian too) I think I'll skip the X-T5 because I like the screen which you can fully flip around to keep it save. And for the most part I only use the view-finder anyhow
Reminds me of Wood Allen, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About XT-5 * (*But Were Afraid to Ask), Thank you, it simply oozes quality and care in producing this.
Once again a very informative video I have followed you for a long time . I have and still have Fuji gear .Currently shooting with an XT-3 and XT-4 I shoot a lot of sports, so thanks for suggesting the XH series
I am so glad I found your channel! I can tell the amound of care, detail and love that goes into them. I'm someone looking to get back into photography after a few years. I have a great Sony camera but I've been eyeing the Fuji system. I know that the X-T5 is probably overkill for my needs and my expertise level, so i have to think very carefully about buying it or not. I really appreciate your insight and all your testing!
Hi Charles!!! No problem man, and I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account and am trying to get help. Thank you so much for supporting the channel!! I really appreciate it!! Cheers! 🙏 👍
You're kind of forgetting a lot of other Fuji users! The X-S10 was my first "grown-up" camera (and it is a good camera!) I leapt at the X-T5 and I love it SO much I could marry it (I watched this video cos it's you, and I love your videos so I really wanted to hear your thoughts, but I already know what I think!) Being smaller and lighter than I expected was the icing on the cake. But it's the dials and controls I wanted. As an enthusiast, I regularly change everything - it was all a bit of a pain on the X-S10, so I stuck with aperture mode 99% of the time. With all settings equally accessible, I change them all the time! Thanks for the video. :)
Hi Mike! I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account. Thank you so much for supporting the channel!! I really appreciate it!! 🙏 👍
Thanks very much Chris. Most of what I know about how to get the best out of my XT-2 is down to your gifts as a communicator and teacher. As soon as the XT-5 arrived in Australia I grabbed it, expecting to love the IBIS and the big advances in AF. The IBIS is astonishing, but I’ve had nagging AF problems, and when I started seeing chatter about AF shortcomings from other XT-5 users I wondered if I’d made the right call. Your review gives me confidence that most of my issues can be fixed with a deeper knowledge of how the system works … looking forward to your follow-up tutorials!
A superb review and an excellent example of exactly what your channel does best. The XT5 looks fantastic, but I cannot justify an upgrade from my XS-10 / X100V combo though....
24:00 maybe there are less corrections in the RAW made by Fuji? I recently heard by Krolop and Gerst that the Fuji RAW files are corrected even though they are RAW files.
wow the amount of useful info given with precise words and nice video editing makes watching the video a breeze. All without any unnecessary speech like most of the videos out there is great. That is a fantastic work. You got yourself a new subscriber.
Great review and well worth the wait! I also ordered the XT5 on Day 1 and never cease to be impressed by this camera. Compared to my XT3, having IBIS and the new film simulations -- alone -- made this a rewarding purchase but I quickly learned how great the subject tracking is, as well. Without a doubt this is the best and most enjoyable digital camera I've owned.. it really checked all the boxes.
An honest, well done review. So much to consider. I will continue to follow you while keeping my trusty XT20 and non-Fuji DSLR. Your channel provides a wealth of information even to a seasoned person like me.
Simply, you are great and thank you..Be blessed. I do own the XT-2, Xtime-3 and XT-5 (HATED THE SCREEN ON THE Xtime-4) eVERY time I see your videos, I learn. Thank you! Javier Gutierrez
Appreciate all your hard work. Getting back into photography. The internet stinks for many reasons, but the dissemination of knowledge is one of the best aspects. Thank you!
I got the X-T4 in September. I actually didn't know that there was going to be an X-T5! I kind of regretted that, as I am more interested in photography than video. However, I was wanting the articulating screen which is why I steered away from the X-T3 despite it's great reputation. Thank you for such a detailed review! I'm glad you are enjoying the camera! I like the X-T4 and will be sticking with it for a long time I'm sure!
Thank you for your review, I’m a XT3 user and I would have swap immediately to XT5 but the 40 mpx are too much for me. I probably stay on the xt4 for gaining IBIS. But your way to review it, is awesome. Thank you again.
@@DalsPhotography thank you , certainly you right, because when it came out, I was pissed by the missing ibis sensor on XT3 but not for the articulate tilt screen that they placed on XT4…
@@cnicolo well, for me that screen was a real advancement since I came from Canon Dslr! And honestly I prefer to lye on the ground for my birds/macro photos, even if I am older, kind of making gym while photographing haha, cheers from Uruguay.
An excellent review, we don't need another boring and only technical one, it's always a joy to look at your videos. I'm still in the XT2 era, and this update is the one that makes me think of updating my camera someday, so many great features.
Great Video. I bought a xt5 used and as a photographer, I love it. You put high content with such a friendly Voice, Awesome. I like your Channel very much.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make a proper review. I've had the camera for a while, and as a previous X-T2 owner, the biggest difference I noticed is in the auto-focus performance, stabilization, battery and Quality of Life things like the touch screen. My biggest gripe is the video performance, as it seems we can't avoid compromising. Either we get a lot of rolling shutter and a cap at 30fps, or we skip lines and using much less of the sensor, losing detail and dynamic range. That being said, the camera is capable of good video. I haven't used the digital teleconverter or the 160mp file yet, looking forward to your videos on those, as well as the Autofocus guide!
I have the X-E4 & X-T4 & am a retired senior (non video) hobby photographer. The X-T4 , in my case, is more camera than I need. The X-E4 is definitely coming with me on an international vacation later this year for the compactness & light weight, especially in the hot weather (August). Will take the X-T4 body , but location & daily activities will dictate which camera I use for the particular day.
Thanks for another excellent review! You do the best reviews out there, and they are appreciated. I couldn't wait for your review to buy the X-T5 (got it last week), but I am not disappointed with the camera so far or with your take on it. Thanks!
Worth the wait for your 6-month review. Very well done as usual! I have been a Fujifilm X-series shooter since 2019 started as my entry into mirrorless cameras from a long-time Canon shooter. I was not too fond of the original mirrorless offerings from Canon and the fact that the 5D Mark IVs and lenses were pushing my weight limits in my kit, especially for travel. So I purchased an X-T100 for my wife and an X-T2 for myself. Within a year I was selling off my Canon gear and moving head-on into the Fuji system. Bought an X-T4 around 2021 and now the X-T5 just a few months ago. Needless to say, I have not sold or traded any of my original gear. Also, that said, recently I had the real-world opportunity to put the newly acquired X-T5 through its paces with several genres of shooting that I do on a regular basis. aviation and motorsports racing. I was one of the official photographers at the Sun-N-Fun airshow in Lakeland Florida and shot for 6 days during the whole event. Then I spent several days shooting the SCCA races at Daytona International Speedway. My take on the X-T5 performance is in exact line with what you described in this review. The autofocus is much improved over the previous X-series cameras. The new Subject Detection system (for Planes and Cars) did a decent job for the most part. I would find that it picked up the subject about 85% of the time. When it struggled I felt it was because of multiple subjects close in relation to each other, especially in the auto races. With the planes, it was the contrasting backgrounds that gave it an issue and a few times it falsely ID'd other subjects as if they were planes, like a large truck on the flight line while planes were taxiing. The AF was responsive enough for the high speed of the jets and the race cars, but out of the burst (MS 15/FPS) I would get some sharp images and then it would lose sharp focus to the point of the image not being really acceptable. I was shooting both events with the XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens. I have to add to this and say it is not always the camera that is at fault for subpar images it is the photographers' ability to run the equipment to properly achieve the best results, focusing in this case. I know that some of the failures in my images were caused by myself so there is that factor that needs to be considered by all of us when we shoot. I look forward to more of your reviews of the X-T5 platform!
NOTE: There will be many more X-T5 videos, how-to's, and advanced use tutorials coming to this channel in the coming weeks! 👍📷🎥
Can we also quickly talk about the low light preview? I found it so different from my xt3/xpro3/xs10 sensor, especially when doing astrophotography
Love to see Adv setting on XT5 with a super-telephoto lens for wildlife photography.
I just wanted to say:
I have upgraded from Nikon D5600 to Fuji XT5 exactly because of yours detailed reviews, lessons, and other videos.
Great review. Thank you🎉
I need this for especially product videos like ETSY videos not complicated and the camera will be on the top standing still and on the table I will show the products with my hand moving toward the camera sometimes so the focus should be good.
Never ASSume anything about anyone!
I agree. RUclips is like one big paid ad now. I turn a lot of them off once they say that.
Well said.
Shouldn’t matter if he bought it or not only his word as a reviewer
I bought the XT5 about a month ago and i love it! I was a Canon shooter a while back and drifted away from digital cameras to taking pictures with iPhones. With the XT5, I went back to what got me to photography in the first place, the enjoyment of the process and the art of taking pictures. Your review confirmed that I made the right decision going with Fuji and with XT5. Thanks for bringing so much useful content.
Canon 5D M2 still produces the most pleasant raw files.
The substance of the review is fantastic, but can we appreciate the storytelling here? I have never owned a Fuji, but this man speaks with so much passion I damn near pulled out my credit card. The enthusiasm escapes the screen and touches everyone listening. Amazing work!
“The soul of film, in a digital world”. Sold!
Boy, am I ever gonna miss that website! 😔
@@Indydi for sure! Stinking Amazon
This is THE video for the XT-5; answers all my questions- and I had a LOT of them! Thank you so much for your time, energy and expertise- enjoyed every moment😊
The level of detail that you go into, the depth and sustenance of the information you provide is absolutely. Thank you so much for the hard work!
Being brand new to photography I spent nearly 6 months chosing my first setup. I went with a Fugifilm XT5. I chose the fugifilm because of you Chris. Your hardwork and passion sealed the deal for me. There is so much value in your videos for a new photographer. Thank You
Your research paid off...you made the RIGHT choice with the X-T5! Welcome to the glorious world of FUJIFILM! :)
@@michaelyolch79 what do you usually shoot? I am interested in getting into portrait photography both indoor (with low light) and outdoor
The lettering on the dials is easier to see in black! Much more contrast than the silver.
As an ex sony/nikon shooter you have chosen wisely. I got the same one in black and love it.
Thank you so much Pascal! 🙏
That's exactly my story as well 😅
@@andrius_magic Same here.
Excellent, I need say no more
Thank you for your great and honest videos.
I’m a Nikon shooter transitioning to Fujifilm. What lenses are you using now?
Desperately needed -- by me !! A step-by-step tutorial for beginners/intermediates on tracking and Continuous Mode. Thanks.
Much more to come!
Excellent as always, and worth waiting for. Already lots of valuable tips and information, your future tutorials will be essential viewing. Don’t know what the X-T community would do without you. Thank you Chris!
This is the most detailed and useful review of XT5 in RUclips. Nuff said.
Thanks for the great review. I'm a XT5 owner and I really hope Fuji will give us some significant update to improve AF performance of the camera.
Thanks!! In recognition of all the videos that you have posted.
Great work.
Well done, Chris! It has been well worth the wait! Looking forward to more detailed educational videos on the XT-5.
Chris, thinks for putting so much work and time into this video. It is greatly appreciated and very helpful.
Just excellent! The best XT5 Review yet. Bravo!
I look forward to future XT5 videos….so great. I am struggling with AF with moving subjects so bring it on, please!
This review is perfect ... I mean you reached perfection ... thank you so much, Chris.
How is the AF performance with the Fringer, and which lenses do you use with it? Thanks.
XT5 is a beast I ❤ it! Your a straight shooter keep up the great content
Great review Chris! And thanks for putting so much work and time into this video.
I'm only about 6 min in your video and I can't believe how good this content is. Feels like watching a movie or something... I edit videos myself and I can tell this is a LOT of work! thanks for the amazing content.
The best review for the xt5
Brilliant! Should I upgrade from XT-4? You always ask and answer the right questions.
Absolutely incredible review! Thanks for all that you do to the Fujifilm community
❤🎉 Thank you, you are still the best teacher in the fujifilm area and the videos are nice and fun to watch again and again 😂 a bit like watching the same movie over and over as a kid 😅
The most compelling and useful X-T5 review I’ve yet seen, especially ( but not exclusively ) for existing Fujifilm users. Bravo!
What an amazing review, definitely world class. The sentimental touch at the ending makes a phenomenal closing for a camera review video. I'm a fan now.
Both excellent and entertaining! Thanks, Chris. I too ordered my X-T5 on day one along with the
18 1.4 prime.
Cheers👍
This is how a Review is done! Awesome job!
Thanks for the review! I’ve got my XT5 and your review mimicked my own. Now I’ll be waiting to see what you think about the old lenses on it!
Thanks for the video
Thanks!
A fantastic, well thought out review, Chris.
Really looking forward to your tutorials coming soon. Need to know the tricks!
Super helpful! I used xt2 for 8 years and just found out how to use focus c mode thanks to your video
Thank you so much for your insight. Im looking at purchasing either an XT-5 or XT-50. Was a very detailed and thorough video. Leaning towards XT-5
Best review on the XT5 I’ve watched to date & from a trusted source! Thanks.
An honest, well done review. So much to consider. I will continue to follow you while keeping my trusty XT20 and non-Fuji DSLR. Your channel provides a wealth of information even to a seasoned person like me.
thanks for everything, as always! And I love that you still recommend the XT-3, especially for beginners (I currently have an XT-3)
You’re the master when it comes to Fuji. Such good information. Simply amazing. One stop shop!!!
Great review! Even though I am a 99% stills shooter, I prefer the X-T4 screen because it can flipped around for protection.
Thank you Chris, well worth the time you have considered this. An honest and well thought out review!!
Thank you for your review, I’m a XT3 user and I would have swap immediately to XT5 but the 40 mpx are too much for me. I probably stay on the xt4 for gaining IBIS. But your way to review it, is awesome. Thank you again.
You won't regret the xt4 , it's such a great camera. Have been using it in every kind of weather for the last hmmm well, since it got out LOL...
You put high content with such a friendly Voice,
Awesome.
I like your Channel very much.
One can notice the hard work behind this video, so much details but very clear explained. Thank you very much
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make a proper review.
I’m looking at getting back into photography after 40 years and you have sold me on the XT5
