Best video I’ve found!! 1 thing I would add.. you could take off the tank of the toilet rather than the entire thing. Or at least makes it lighter if you are working by yourself and cannot lift it on your own 👍🏻
Thanks so much for this video. I was "sort of a Boy Scout" and followed all the steps and tips. (I especially loved the high speed demo on how to mix plaster to patch defects.) My newly repainted bathroom looks way better than I expected, and I could not have done it without your excellent and detailed guidance.
Dude... this was very impressive. Yes, there are a lot of videos on painting available on RUclips, but yours is extremely well put together, helpful, and easy to watch. Tons of great ideas, and very professionally assembled. I will definitely be checking your channel out for more home tips. I'd write more, but I have a bathroom to go and paint... :-)
Another great video! I love that you removed the toilet. Sooooo many people don't because they're afraid of it. It makes things so much easier, and faster! Not too mention, a good excuse to clean part that you normally don't.
Thanks Braden! And you're so right, my bathroom got a deep clean like it's never gotten when I was doing this video, it was a great excuse to clean out every little corner of the space haha. It always surprises me to see how few people remove the toilet when they paint. I've been inside many multi-million dollar new homes that have bare drywall patches behind the toilet!
Wow--this was super handy and you managed to make it interesting too! My eyes usually glaze over during DIY videos while I wait for the useful info but you jumped right into it so THANK YOU!! I'm debating the toilet removal for my own project. I really want to pay attention to detail and I often notice that unpainted area but I'm afraid that I will screw that up and water will be everywhere!
Loved your boyscout thoroughness in listing out every step with live active examples; lots of videos gloss over a lot of details while narrating over stock footage or just standing there talking about it. Show > tell!
Been a fan of the channel recently, so when I was looking for a video on some painting I'm going to do, I was thrilled you had one that covered it perfectly!
Thanks Bibi, I'm a big fan of Benjamin Moores Regal kitchen and bath. It's one of the few kitchen and bath paints I've been able to find in flat finish.
Not only keeping the paint brush.. Also keep the tray by using blastic bag and insert the tray inside and pour the paint over the plastic and keep the tray clean 😁😁.. Dont waste money
Getting ready to paint our bathroom blue with no experience lol wish me luck! My only fear is that the paint will dry with the brush strokes showing through in the corners Hopefully a good brush doesn’t show them
Good luck! A good brush helps and so does a good paint. A good paint will self level as it dries. You'll see brush strokes at first but come back 15 minutes later and they should be gone. You always want to roll as close into the corners as you possibly can. You've got this!
Thank you for the tip. I'm going to take everything out including the medicine cabinet. I'm having so much trouble painting everything. My ceiling is high. Lol I'm super short.
Great video with a lot of useful tips! One question - I dont believe you used a primer, was there a reason for that? Or was the paint you used a "primer and paint in one" type? Thanks!
Great question Levent. So the paint I was using is also a primer, and I think you'll find that these days it's tough to find a paint that isn't a paint and primer. But additionally, when you're applying a latex paint over the top of another latex paint you can generally get away without using a primer. Primers are more for when you're going from an oil based paint to a later OR youre applying to bare drywall (in which case it's really more of a sealer)
So I was watching another video made by a professional paint, and he recommended using Frogtape for masking tape because it's the only painters tape that doesn't leave unnatural harsh lines like the standard blue painters tape does. He said that Frogtape doesn't bleed on the edges making the edges lazer precise.
Some good tips. But would have been really useful to show a scenario where you had newly plastered walls so you can detail the paint prep, the mist coat etc as this is what seems to be the most complicated (people doing it different ways).
You can use the same paint as the walls. Often people will differentiate their ceilings by using an extremely flat finish, because it hides imperfections better, but thats more of a stylistic choice than anything else.
You’re lucky you’re tall and you didn’t have to go up and down the ladder with the cutting in. Now that you’ve had it on for a while do you wish you would’ve gone with a satin paint?
Yay. I looked at a few videos and they just talk forever. Some of them just talk. Thank you for talking and showing. Instead of watching for 10 min listening to talking with no action.
Wow, I would hire this guy in an instant. I've never seen such attention to detail in painting and I've seen a lot of painting jobs. Well done
Thank you Jenn! In my line of work the details are what make the difference so I always try to keep an eye on them :)

I’ve found that between coats to wrap the brush and pail in gladwrap and put in the fridge. You can to the same with the roller.
There might be other painting videos, but I appreciate your take! This was super helpful. Thank you for sharing! 🙌

My wife thought I was crazy for wanting to take the toilet out before painting, so THANK YOU for proving me right! Or at least being crazy with me...
Haha you just need to ask her if she could live with a big bare spot behind the toilet. That's always my arguement 😂

Excellent video! I agree with the letting go of the pressure part
Glad you liked it, and ya it takes time to let go of the pressure unfortunately but it makes a big difference
This Is What You Need To Watch‼️
First bathroom painting video I’ve come across where there’s actual painting being done👏🏻

I need it this video before I let my son alone taking care of our bathroom 😅,but going to convince him to watch the video 📹 😅
Awsome video! With many good tips🤩🤩Think you did a amazing job on camera work in suchs a small rom!👏👏 audio and voice was perfect😊
Wow.Winner-this is the vid Im using.Thank you so much
Thanks for the demo! You might want to prime the plaster patches to prevent flashing.
Thank you, good ideas and positive thinking
great video. Zac which is the best paint to use on bathrooms?

Excellent, thank you for bringing us along. Good video.

this is by far the best bathroom painting video I've seen

What should we paint first ceiling or walls ? Also planning on cleaning wall tiles along with grout what should be my order ?
The order is ceiling, trim, walls.
Thank you for the tip. I'm going to take everything out including the medicine cabinet. I'm having so much trouble painting everything. My ceiling is high. Lol I'm super short.
Glad it was helpful!
@@ZacBuilds I'm going to try and repaint the bathroom ceiling again so I can apply my wall paper.
Some would call this meal, à Brunch 😎
Great video. So many cool tips!
Awesome job and nice personality. I wonder why you didn't use the damp rag again after sanding the walls down with the sanding sponge?
Thanks buddy, I learned a lot from this video, cheers mate
Great vid Zac! Full of great tips and advice!
Thanks Alex!

Great content!! Also some really good information in the comment section, thank you!
Good tips from a GREAT painter!😉👍
Haha thanks Richard, but trust me, I am no great painter. I've seen some great painters before, it's where I got half of my tips from :)
The roller is a sleeve and cage.
I am going on this Bathroom tomorrow , Thanks Zac, I love you work Music..

Some good tips. But would have been really useful to show a scenario where you had newly plastered walls so you can detail the paint prep, the mist coat etc as this is what seems to be the most complicated (people doing it different ways).
Do I need a separate ceiling paint? Or can I use the same paint on my ceiling as I do on the walls?
You can use the same paint as the walls. Often people will differentiate their ceilings by using an extremely flat finish, because it hides imperfections better, but thats more of a stylistic choice than anything else.
@@ZacBuilds Thanks for your prompt reply, Zac! I really appreciate it. Have a wonderful day ☺️
Great attention to detail. Where did you find that surface mount bathroom cabinet?
Good video, but i feel removing the toilet is just asking for trouble. Just paint around it. Do you sand the walls between coats ?
Very helpful Video Thanks
Any recommendations on what grit to use when choosing sanding paper
Nothing overly aggressive a nice 120 or 150 should do you well, but 80 or 220 would work in a pinch.
You get little baggies of stuff to throw in the toilet bowl, it gels the water quickly, so nothing can drip when you loft it out.
Didn't know that. What's it called? I'd like to try that!
@@ranger2316 LiquiLock is one ...
@@poepflater Oh cool, thanks.
Newbie here, how long in between coats? Thanks for the vid!
Do you paint the ceiling after the wall?
What kind of sand paper did you use ?
Thank you for the tips and tricks
My pleasure Jared, thanks for watching!
Zac Builds ur very welcome my friend and thank you so much keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work make on
Great video
You removed the switch cover !! You are 👍 , so much doesn’t do it ... I hate them 😂
Haha thats my number one pet peeve as well! No one does it, and I dont get why!
Great stuff man
Thanks man!
Nan i am so glad you did this video, now i know that you do amazing work, how does September 21st sound too come down and help 😀 😁👍 great video zac
Sorry for my late response on this one JB, but don't worry I'm on my way to the airport right now 😂😂

Nicely done!
Thanks Brother!
So how do American or Canadian toilets fill with water?
very nice thank you
Very good! ....and i've done a lot of painting.

no way I'm removing a toilet. Nice video!
You had me until you suggested to remove the toilet 🤓… some of us aren’t that strong nor handy😬
You’re lucky you’re tall and you didn’t have to go up and down the ladder with the cutting in. Now that you’ve had it on for a while do you wish you would’ve gone with a satin paint?
Nice job but I don't think it's really necessary to remove the toilet. Reinstalling it may require replacing the wax ring at the base.
Absolutely do not disconnect the toilet water line at the valve. Do it at the tank.
Why not?
Bro just use the masking tape where it's needed!! That cabinet would not have been caught in the cross fire 😅 good video thanks brother!
Your music is EXCRUCIATING!
Thanks for watching anyways
@@ZacBuildsyou're such a positive guy. Great video, man. Subscribing for sure.
Painters tape or masking tape is great for straight lines. IDK why you didn't just use that
I dont like the hard edges you get when using painters tape. When you cut freehand with a brush you get much softer edges that look more natural
@@ZacBuilds I don't see a lot of professional painters using masking tape for general cutting in.

takes off toliet and light switch plates but doesnt cover water line decor plate lol

Yes, it's your home, and that's the reason you move the toilet bro
Would've been nice if u used a different color . Cant tell what's going on. So much talking
