I can't believe I was able to paint my bedroom AND my office/music studio by myself. Seriously, thank you so much for this video! I literally grabbed EVERYTHING you asked, didn't question it, and followed everything you said. Y'all are the bomb!
Im curious, if you don’t mind sharing how much money did you spend on paint supplies excluding the paint? I bought some supplies the other day and it was so expensive 😭
Wow I love Monica! I don't usually leave comments but she just made painting a room seem so accessible doable! I was debating even doing it myself but now I definitely will be!
hello comment from 3 years ago. I watched this video first. I still got my painters tape sticking to my hands and pants and getting all crooked. My drop cloth got tangled. I splattered paint everywhere. Knowing is half the battle. Not being an incredible clutz is the part that gets me though.
Okay, powers that be, Monica is incredibly popular and deserves her own show. Her personality, skill and style are fabulous and so relatable. BTW I volunteer my home for the first episode!
Thank you so much!!!! 21 years old and painting and prepping my room all by myself!!!! just bought sparkle to patch the hols in my wall! thank you!!!!!
I don’t know how often I watched every segment with Monica. I love the weekender. It’s the absolute best. I love Monica and everything she does. PLEASE BRING BACK THE WEEKENDER!!! I promise I will watch every episode about 100 - 700 times.
@@EastCoastCreative It is trueeee. I was watching the weekender episodes till I dropped. ☺. I have a room makeover in my channel if you wanna pass by... even if I have to aware you...I hadn't watched the video back then, so the prep is poor. Lots of love
Awwww glad I saw this video. We just brought a home and I'm actually sitting in the middle of a room floor staring at my computer figuring where the heck I'm going to start. I want to do upgrades on my home myself where I can feel extra proud. Figuring out colors has me cornered for the moment but surely I'll get to the right place.
I truly appreciate you taking time out to postthis video. Most of the time, there isn’t enough information in the video to help you move forward. I can’t wait to watching more on it in the near future. Thanks again for posting it.
I love watching Monica. I used a lot of her videos to help me prep for my kitchen and living room make-over. Due to an accident it now wont happen. She is still great to watch and help me believe that I still may be able to do something one day. Thanks Monica
My walls right now has drawings, crayons, pencils, pen marks, and spider webs in the corners. All courtesy of a girl in her toddler days. The walls in this video has none of that but it doesn't matter as a spray bottle with mild detergent can take care of the spider webs and dirt. The paint with overwhelm and cover up the child's scribble and artwork, nice! Thanks so much for your video.
It took me about four days of prep job the wall bc I had to put down a textured wallpaper which had a white wash on top and left a lot of glue behind... the wall underneath wasn't prepped nor had any paint job so it look like a funny patchy field. It was a lot of work but mostly it required so much waiting time!!. Sanding was definitely the best thing ever, it made the wall so smooth. Finally I could add the color to the wall when all the prep plus primer was done only to realize that the paint doesn't look even lol so it will require another day of waiting and another layer. Sigh. I can only imagine what I would have had to pay if I contracted anyone for this. But I'm doing a good job. Phew.
Monica, are you a teacher when you're not doing videos? If not, well you should be You are fabulous! Not too loud that I had to keep turning you down. Not too quiet that I strained to hear. Very informative and concise. To be frank, I could listen to you all day, but damn it, I have a room to go prep. Thanks for the great tutorial! CHEERS from Kansas City, MO!
So funny to see Monica mention eye protection and face mask but not have her hair tucked away in a shower cap. Other than that, great presentation! Glad to see the confirmation that I was doing the right steps and had the right tools! I especially loved the use of the painter's knife (multipurpose tool) for the caulking edge!
This video and the other on how to paint a room has my life a lot easier when I prep and painted my front room. I did my best but as my first project, some tips and advice went better than others. Thank you for helping me out or it would of been a disaster!
Love the videos, some great ideas. Me & the stores don't really get along though. I still remember the 1st time I saw one of these videos and went rushing there with my ideas. It has been a slippery slope. Every one I've been to has terrible customer service and inventory. I always dread having to go there. They try to make you feel as if you are the weird one for interrupting their day to ask for something they have a sign for, but don't carry in the store. They simply refer you to amazon.
Prep work is the most important part of any paint job and takes the longest amount of time. A lot of people get in a hurry and just want to get paint on the walls and then get disappointed when their paint job doesn't look how they thought it would. If you're going to spend money to paint, spend some extra time and effort to prep the surface to ensure your paint job will turn out looking great.
Thank you for this very thorough prep guide. Wished I had come across this 3 bedrooms ago! However, will be implementing some of those techniques tomorrow
Paint your trim first. It is so much easier to cut into your trim compared to cutting to your wall. Even more so if you're going to tape everything anyways. That way you only need to tape once.
You are an excellent teacher! IMO this is the best painting prep video I have found. Very comprehensive, clear and complete. For a beginner, like myself, DYI is not common sense. I need good advice. Thanks. One question for anyone out there. Why tape off baseboards and frames if I’m painting them the same color?….Uhhh, never mind. Watched your companion video and saw that you painted TWO colors.
Hi Monica, you are extremely customer service friendly, explanations of how to were simple basic and to the point. Hopefully by watching your videos, this time around I'll get it right. But just in case, can you recommend a good not to expensive professional
Hello Monica. Stumbled across you while searching for info otherwise & thought, painting is on the list so id give myself time with you. OMG! Impressed i am. Step by step with clarity & understanding. Monica, you showed taping the wall to paint the baseboards, however painted the baseboards 'free' handed. How long after the walls should I do the baseboards; dry to the touch may differ from using tape. Does the quality of paint reflect dry time (in your opinion)? I was sooo impressed I've subscribed & can't wait to hear your delivery of other projects. Are there any on applying 'molding' on walls /ceilings. Thanx Monica. Peace
Monica we love you!!! My 7 year old daughter has watched every one of your shows several times and can explain the details and mechanics of home improvement work thanks to you. People always talk about crawlspace issues and completely ignore the primary question. Where does the moisture come from to begin with? When a home is built, typically, a foundation is dug of one type or another, concrete poured, and the excess that was removed is back filled against the foundation. Since the soil has been disturbed, it now is less compacted which water will soak into much easier than more compacted dirt. This dirt is supposed to be compacted, but never is so essentially you have a water magnet. Then you add the thick bushes around the house that block the sun so the ground never dries. Then the gutter guys come along and drop the gutters right up against the home dumping more water where it doesn't belong. On top of all that the dirt under the home is typically lower than outside causing more issues. Fix the outside of the home and the crawlspace becomes much less of an issue.
This is a fantastic video! I have a list of things to get. I've been wanting to makeover my bedroom and I know it needs a paint job. Excellent tip at 8:55 - caulking baseboard and wall, using 90-degree angle on 5-in-1 tool.
This is a very good video, it's all about the prep. Never use dust sheets without plastic underneath, paint drips will always drip through the weave.
