I'm still completely happy with my Riii. It does everything I need it to do but I've also been shooting for a long time. I was shooting professional sports with film cameras then later to the 5d series so I'm fine with not having the latest and greatest tech. The Riii produces beautiful images.
Agree with this, so much so I purchased the A7iv to pair with the R3. Not having to change lenses is actually amazing even for a hobbyist like me and have easily taken more photos now. If you what I did, make sure to buy extra HD space 😂
A7RIII is surprisingly a faster camera than a7IV, shooting 8fps at 42MP uncompressed raw up to 30 frames, compared to only 6fps up to 30 frames of 33MP RAW on a7IV.
I was writing up my notes on my next video, and I totally forgot to mention that, do. That buffer too, the A7riii had a 70 shot buffer? that's with UHS-I cards, the A7iv apparently chokes on that.
I used both systems, but when going for portraits, I would almost exclusively stick to A7 IV. Otherwise, I'd pair them when A7R III is for photos and A7 IV for videos. Autofocus on A7 IV is much snappier and catches on the eye 99% of the time.
Best detailed coverage I've seen so far and in under 9 minutes -- while somehow being able to squeeze in some entertaining humor. Glad I found your channel, now subscribed, and hope you gain more followers. Thanks!
In Australia the A7R IV A is currently available at the same price as the A7 IV as Sony is giving $500 cash back on the A7R IV A, that makes the question a lot harder.
@@hans6304 No, that I do not need, in APSC mode the 200-600mm are equivalent to a 300-900mm and you can still crop ! But I do wish for a 1.4x GM Telecoverter for the 135mm 1.8 GM

The A7Riii af wasn't that great. Pay more for the iv no regrets. Buy the Riii and you'll want the better video and much better af of the iv down the road.
I ordered a A7R IIIa at 2000 € as the now available R IV is 2800€. Not sure I made the right choice, just wanted to keep the original investment in the change over from Canon.

I can't decide 😥. I'm into landscape, nature, architecture. Which one is the best? All I care is photo stills. Btw I'm from Canon system 🤗 A7IV - $2600 A7RIV - $2200 A7RIII - $1900
Like many of Sony's high-res full-frame cameras, the sensor in the A7 IV lacks an optical low-pass filter (OLPF), enabling you to capture more extra-fine detail. -imaging resource
I shoot mostly nightscapes and having owned both cameras I prefer the a7RIII. I found the a7RIII much better in terms of shadow noise which is kind of surprising.
Currently the sale prices for the A7R III is around $500 less than the new A7 IV. Is there enough features on the new A7 IV to wait and pay the extra $500. For a wildlife and landscape wouldn’t the older model be a better choice ?
realtime AF, dual UHSii is worth a lot for wildlife, you really dont want to hit the buffer, then have to wait it out. Once you use realtime AF, it's hard going back, so I'm heavily biased in that regard.
@@CharlieVN I'd have to agree with you on this. While I love my RIII I recently acquired an A7C with intention to astro mod, tested real time tracking and it's awesome. I think this and bird eye AF in the A7IV will greatly improve my wildlife photography experience.
I enjoyed the video with the bits of humor sprinkled in. The bit about printing was very helpful, since MPs is obviously one concern about going from the A7riii to the A7iv, which I've been seriously contemplating. I mostly do nature photography. The AF system and low light performance is a bit lacking in the riii. (I mostly don't care about video.) Do you think the A7IV would be a big improvement?)
it has at least one stop low light sensitivity advantage. I have a few samyang lenses that definitely do NOT work that well with the riii and 7iii, and have a new lease on life with the 7iv, much more useable. Definitely better for backlit and low contrast
I've got the original A7riii. I've just ordered the A7iv. I really want the better lowlight autofocus. One thing you didn't mention is the R series comes with a charger. To the best of my knowledge the 7 still does not. I was hoping with the big price jump it would now be included but it does not look like it.
That's exactly why I'm contemplating buying the A7iv. I have the A7riii. I do mostly nature photography. I want better AF/tracking systems and low light performance.
At $2800, I would wait for the R4A 3k sale. With that said & wanting to try an entry into the Sony ecosystem a little play with some light video, = A7-4.
I just bought a new a7RIIIA for $1900 (B&H EDU) yesterday. In 2022, it’s still one hell of a camera, and a great piece of gear at that price. I’m using Sony’s compact 40mm f2.5 for street and will get their 85mm f1.8 next.
Good video! I'm an A7R2 user for the past 4 years. When I bought it new back in 2017 I was waiting for the A7R3 to come out. I ended up buying the R2 and the R3 came out one month later. Go figure... The R2 has been good to me. Aside from the poor user controls and ergonomics, it takes amazing stills and landscapes. My photography has moved into taking portraits, wildlife and some BIF. The R3 fixes a lot of complaints I had about the R2. E.g., battery life, better buttons and placement, better EVF and improved AF. My concern is that I am not sure if it makes sense to buy an R3 now considering I do have the R2. I thought about selling the R2 if I got an R3. I just ordered an A7R3a and A7R4a. I got the A7R3a with an extra battery, 64 GB UHS-1 card for $2000 and the A7R4a for $3000. The larger EVF and rear display is nice on the R3a but it doesn't feel that much different in the hand. The A7R4a feels great in the hand though. The AF on the R4a is better than the R3 and miles apart from the R2. My hard drive does fill up quickly though with the A7R4 but i does take amazing images though. I really want to be able to be able to shoot BIF as well as wildlife. I know the R3 can do wildlife just fine but it will not work for BIF. The A7R4 is better but I am not sure about using it with zooms. I have the 100-400 GM and would like to get 200-600 too. I hear mixed reviews about the A7R4 and that lens. The A1 would be ideal but out of my price range for a single camera. Do you think I should get an A7IV? What your thoughts on upgrading to the R3a if I have already have the R2? Thoughts?
@@hans6304 I had the A7Riv for a bit. I loved the handling of the camera but the focus was not to snuff with the 100-400 and 200-600. It’s a pretty known thing with the RIV and those lenses.
