As a former 911 call taker, please just call the fire department if you smell gas. Turn off the appliance if you can, DO NOT open the doors and windows, and just get out of the house until they arrive. The fire department can come and check for gas leaks and carbon monoxide. If something needs fixing then the gas company will come out. The reason you shouldn't air out the house is because the fire department has an easier time determining the source of the issue. Just get out of the house and call them.

I actually just meant in Kristin's case when she turned on the oven and knew there was a fire she could turn it back off before leaving so things don't get worse. We have been together 7 years now, we have a child together and we are a huge blended family and we are very happy and successful. I don’t agree with breaking up with him, because you feel you’re holding him back. Life is about choices and he was choosing you, you also can’t assume what he should have in life cause to him you were his life. Yes we have had some age things but it’s nothing crazy you just keep going. You have to remember you only have one life, and you never know when your life can end in all reality and you need to live your life for you and what makes you happy not what the world thinks of your guys or anyone else. People are going to always talk, but those people aren’t you, paying your bills and raising your family, they are people like me who know nothing about you but what you share. The sad thing is that people who grew up around volatile relationships…often cannot feel deeply in love with someone unless that person gives them another volatile relationship. Nothing triggers us more than being able to replay a dynamic that we already “know” on a deep level. My mother’s intuition I called the emergency hotline for our gas company. The technician came out asap and he told me that if I would have waited something scary could have happened.

I don’t know anything about this relationship but if she says he was the best and most healthy relationship then that’s worth holding onto. They can grow together. Most times too people have expectations of having lots of kids but when they have one they realize what that looks like and the hard work. Group dates are okay once in a while, especially the first date; however if I’m dating someone and getting to know that person, I want to spend time only with that individual - not him/her and their friends, family, etc. It’s not a good atmosphere for building trust, seeing how this person acts without their friends present as backup, etc. You want to be in a relationship with one person - not feel as if you’re dating multiple people at the same table. If there is a strong gas smell in the house, call 911. If there is enough gas in the house, even the turning on a light switch can spark a fire. I'm just learning so much house and car stuff now. My husband always handled that stuff, and he died suddenly. Thank God for my father who has been a huge help.

I’ve been saying it since she first introduced us to him. It was just a phase. I was in the exact same position and dated a guy 15 years younger than me. Except for I’m in my early 40s. He was my best friend and one of the best relationships maybe the best relationship I’ve ever had. We had so much fun together and I really loved him. We dated for 4 1/2 years, I knew within the first seven months of dating that it was a fairytale. I had the wisdom, wherewithal and experience to know it wasn’t going to be forever even though I wanted it to be.

A carbon monoxide detector doesn't detect gas. You need to buy a gas detector as well. Had 2 gas leaks. Always just call gas company. Don't ever touch a gas switch If you're not gas certified & it blows up insurance doesn't pay. Also don't mess with gas

I’m sure being in the public eye contributes to some of the honeymoon stage and initial lust waring off. After real life reveals itself, she has to take a close look at the future, and the picture perhaps looked differently than the fun of having someone on her arm to do fun things, etc. Real life for Kristen is school and activities for the kids, house bills, running a company, holidays and time split with his family…I’m sure Mark was great for the “dating” part of her life but the long term relationship, his age absolutely was a factor.

She’s cognizant that he’s incredibly young and his brain hasn’t fully formed yet, he’s pumped up with dopamine and all kinds of other chemicals in your brain that make you feel like you’re in love. She knows it’s possible he’s not thinking clearly for a life commitment. Kristin got to experience marrying someone she loved (at the time) and having children. While the marriage didn't work out those are huge moments in people's lives. Women are also more selfless (not all but most) and Kristin did not want to deprive of Mark having those experiences which is so valid. My ex and I were 21 years apart. He broke it off to let me go and experience life. I didn’t understand in that moment and of course I was heartbroken and upset that I didn’t see his point in it all. As a former 911 call taker, please just call the fire department if you smell gas. Turn off the appliance if you can, DO NOT open the doors and windows, and just get out of the house until they arrive. The fire department can come and check for gas leaks and carbon monoxide. If something needs fixing then the gas company will come out. The reason you shouldn't air out the house is because the fire department has an easier time determining the source of the issue. Just get out of the house and call them.

Hey, even though it's kind of weird to comment on a stranger's relationship and break up, your honesty and level of self-reflection are refreshing. I hope you both thrive and what is meant for you will come to you.
I’ve been saying it since she first introduced us to him. It was just a phase. I was in the exact same position and dated a guy 15 years younger than me. Except for I’m in my early 40s. He was my best friend and one of the best relationships maybe the best relationship I’ve ever had. We had so much fun together and I really loved him. We dated for 4 1/2 years, I knew within the first seven months of dating that it was a fairytale. I had the wisdom, wherewithal and experience to know it wasn’t going to be forever even though I wanted it to be.

I’m sure being in the public eye contributes to some of the honeymoon stage and initial lust waring off. After real life reveals itself, she has to take a close look at the future, and the picture perhaps looked differently than the fun of having someone on her arm to do fun things, etc. Real life for Kristen is school and activities for the kids, house bills, running a company, holidays and time split with his family…I’m sure Mark was great for the “dating” part of her life but the long term relationship, his age absolutely was a factor.

@SunshineRae yes “letting.” Becoming a stepdad so young and getting completely locked down into someone else’s family life is a big deal. She’s cognizant that he’s incredibly young and his brain hasn’t fully formed yet, he’s pumped up with dopamine and all kinds of other chemicals in your brain that make you feel like you’re in love. She knows it’s possible he’s not thinking clearly for a life commitment. The “optics” aren’t bad and yes roping a young person in that can carry internal guilt if you truly care about a person and their life beyond your own. You’re kinda buggin here.

Single moms dating will always be the most complicated thing ever. No one will ever understand. Kids only stay kids for a short time. And you want to be able to give them your all. But your mental health is so important. And having a loving and supportive partner is also important for some ppl. People in the comments saying if the ages were reversed it wouldn't be an issue b/c the man wouldn't do that - yes b/c of women being able to biologically have children. That is a HUGE factor. Kristin got to experience marrying someone she loved (at the time) and having children. While the marriage didn't work out those are huge moments in people's lives. Women are also more selfless (not all but most) and Kristin did not want to deprive of Mark having those experiences which is so valid. Better to end things on good terms now and if its meant to be, fate will ensure you guys find your way back to each other but for now I applaud you Kristin. You did the right thing.
