After reading the specs of the A7RIV, I said the same thing. If you already own the A7RIII, there's really not as big of a jump as I would like in order to invest an extra thousand dollars. I usually skip at least one generation before upgrading my electronics.
I think I'm leaning toward the A7R IV due to the fact that it has nicer "knipples" and it is just much more Bad Assier...although I am considering an A9 as well...decisions, decisions.
As a former a7r3 owner let me add that if you are planning to use adapted glass with an mc-11, it gets temperamental at times especially when shooting f8 and above in studio. Sometimes the eye af will back/front focus even though it looks accurate with the af box. Also, if you shoot video and stills and switch the mode dial between the two modes too quickly when shooting a hybrid assignment, it messes up the video file. I didn't have these issues with the A9. Pixel Shift is worth its weight if you print. You only need Sony's software to combine the files and you can export a raw file afterwards that Lightroom will read just like a normal Sony raw file.
Coming off an a7r3 to the a7r4 - Now having shot with it for a month. I want my old camera back. The a7r4 images are WAY noisier and noise is experienced even at ISO100. 61MP is too much for this camera to handle. The good with the R4 is the grip, the AF system - really good. But as far as your hit rate and satisfactory image quality, the R3 wins hands down. Folks on the forums have to regularly denoise their images. How is third party denoising in your workflow allowing you to realize the 61MP of the r4? it doesnt. Short answer. The r4 does do some amazing things and I will keep it for those things but really, the R3 is better in most of the ways that matter. I will be buying a new a7r3 knowing what I know now. Shame it was a $3400.00 lesson.
I have a full-time job but I shoot paid work with a Canon 80D and 70D as backup and I've invested in glass like the Sigma ART 1.4 50mm. I'm ready to go full frame. Should I get the Sony a7R iv or a Canon 5D (would love a 1D) Are there lens mount adapters for the Sony for Canon EF lenses. I found an adapter for Sony E mount but I think the Sony aR7 mk iv is a FE mount and not all E mounts are compatible. I'm not sure what to do and I'm wating time trying to decide what to invest in next. Can anyone give advice?
Charles Macro FE mount and E mount are identical. As long as what you found isn’t a Speed Booster or Focal Reducer then it will be perfectly compatible!
I just upgraded to the a7rIV and I love it, but I upgraded from the a7rII, so I was primarily doing it for the resolution bump for my macro shots. I really can not stress how much I love the new form factor though... I do a lot of hiking with my kit, and primarily hold it with a hand strap, for quick access, and over a 4-5 hour period my hand would start to cramp and get raw in spots with the a7rII, but don't have that issue anymore with the IV, plus the deeper grip just feels like there is less likelihood of an accidental drop with a hand strap, once you are good a sweaty. Gave the a7rII to my wife and she has zero issues with it, so likely just depends on your hand size or how you carry it, because she prefers using a sling strap, instead of carrying it in hand.
I know I am 2 years late but after finding a great deal on a used mint condition A7R4 I too am upgrading from an A7R2. Resolution aside the two mem card slots and bigger battery life alone are worth the price of admission.
Jarod, you kinda missed a couple of things. First, there are a number of reviews (e.g. Dustin Abott) that say that the A7RIII has better high ISO noise performance than its big brother. Second, you omitted to say that the A7RIII does not have the lock on autofocus performance of the IV. This is important for sports and bird photographers. In addition, the shutter of the A7RIV has been re-engineered for more longevity. There are some complaints in online forums about shutter life for the A7RIII. The key question is whether the IV is worth an additional $1,000. IMHO, the answer is no, the a7RIII is a great camera and there's no home run with the a7RIV, just a bunch of singles.
I was thinking some things you might aswell buy the 3 and a adaptor and save for sony glass or 3 and exchange for sony lenses it's up to you entirely ! ... your thoughts .. save $$$
2021. I just watched this video regarding Sony. I have been shooting Nikon since the 1970's. Using a D4s and a D810 lately with so much Nikon glass. However, I held a Sony a7R IV for the first time this week. The first Sony ever. I was so impressed. In my late 60's now and serious hobby shooter but getting tired of lugging around the big but never faulting Nikon gear. The Nikon Z series does not excite me. I may look at a used 7Riii or a used 7R IV.
I just bought the a7RIII, moving from the a6300 that I still keep for casual travels. The quality jump is tremendous and the a7RIII is so much closer in price to the a7III now.
@Eliezer Espinosa Image quality and autofocus. The autofocus is just better in every way and the image quality is also basically just better in every way. Half the total noise at any given ISO, about 32% higher linear resolution, better dynamic range, and it's full frame allowing you to take full advantage of high end full frame lenses which tend to be sharper than APS-C lenses.
I finally took the plunge and upgraded from my a6000 to an a7R III, along with three full-frame lenses. Nearly 6k in the hole, but I'm hoping it's gonna be worth it. Thanks for the video! I feel better about my purchase after watching this!
I've got 2 a6000s and I'm so bored with them. Spotted now the A7 mk3 I can get for less than 1300 squids, now at that price I want to get the 7 and an 85mm prime to hang with my 28mm monster leica Q.
if you had put that into bitcoin a year ago you would have like 34k profits right now, enough to buy any camera you like and still you’d have a lot of money left for a car or whatever
By no means am I a working professional, infact, I am far from it. I currently have 2 bodies, A9ii and an A7III. I've now bought an A7R iv in replacement for the A7iii. Why? Well the reason comes down to me being a complete gear focused photography lover. My glass is exquisite with 4 of my lenses being the GM and GM2, and the phenomenal 200-600G being the cheapest lens I own. I got the A7R IV because I have a 50mm 1.2 GM and wanted to push that lens to the absolute limit, quality wise. Another why? Because I can.

@@CharlesMacro nice man I’m upgrading from my 80D And I’m finding it so difficult to pick something. I’m a hybrid shooter I need video and pictures. I’m leaning towards the a7 iii right now though
Just received my A7RIV yesterday! Decided on that one because I've been shopping for a ~50mm, ~135mm, and more reach than my 100-400mm. Instead of paying $3,000+, decided on that camera and using crop mode when I wanted around those focal lengths and still getting 26mp images. Also, needed a second camera if one gets stolen/damaged...
@@v3blaxican The higher noise in the Mark 4 is due to the higher resolution MP count. Curious if you throw it in APS-C mode to 26 MP if the noise is then the same as your Mark 3 at high ISO? Thanks
@@familyschaeffer8348 I think the ISO quality stays the same if full frame or cropped mode, but I'll test it later. I never used the Mark III, but at two thirds of the resolution, I'm sure it's still better in low light than the IV.
I’ll take the 3 any time for the simple reason that with the 4 you need to buy more hard drives due to the 60 megapixel. I can bet there will not be a big difference image wise.
I love my A7R3, Ill upgrade in a year. I just got this camera and not about to order a 4. has lots of wow features like new sensor but theres nothing wrong with my current sensor. Good video Mr Fro. I'm 40, havent got a clue about cameras and want to get into photography (just a hobby), this has helped immensely with my decision between these two cameras! This is my go to channel. Thanks 👍🏼
I shot 1535 shots in an NCAA 🏈 match in C-RAW with A7RIII adapted with Canon EF 300 mm f/2.8 L IS USM. Still I had 30% charge left! Battery life isn't an issue anymore! And after firmware 3.01, autofocus with Sigma MC-11 is blazing fast. If you are professional and change your body every cycle, A7RIV makes sense. Both cameras are like 'two cameras in one' because of the Super 35 mode. A7RIII will serve me many years to come!
Also to let people know, real tests have proven iso clean usable range gives the r3 an edge, over the r4. Wish this review/comparison wouldv'e included actual comparison results vs specs alone.
@@NikkThompson I have owned both, and the high ISO noise difference is easily taken care of in post, but you CAN'T add back in the extra resolution and detail of the A7RIV to any A7RIII image. An easy choice to make for me and I am happier with the A7RIV. It is in another class from my excellent A7RIII, and worth the money IMHO. Cheers
@@6gwilliams "taken care of in post", has shown to show significant color shifting. More pixels smaller area. Also why the a7iii and a9/a9ii will have better iso range than the a7riii, and also their apcs counterparts.
I recently upgraded from an a7ii to the a7rIII. I have been making a lot of prints lately (24"x 36" and larger) and I wanted my prints to be cleaner as they are generally viewed within 1'- 2' of where they are displayed. It was a very tough decision but the cost difference made the decision easier. I picked up the a7rIII used in like new condition with under 500 shutter actuations for barely more than an a7iii and the features and upgrades between the a7rIII and the a7rIV wasn't worth the extra cost to me.
Do you find the difference from the a7ii to the a7riii to be enough to justify the latter? Looking at $2000 a7riii vs a $950 a7ii. Or would it be better to go a7ii and get better lens?
@@andrewfiedler4960 I honestly believe it was worth it. The battery lasts me all day compared to using 2 or 3 batteries with the a7ii. The EVF on the a7rIII doesn't get near as much digital noise as the a7ii does in low light. Image quality isn't noticably different on small scale media but with large prints it's very noticeable. The other thing I noticed is the raw files of that a7rIII seem to be much more flexible. I personally love that a7rIII and I loved the a7ii. I will say if I was just starting out I probably wouldn't notice the difference between the two.
I'm completely happy at the moment with my RII and have no plans of updating anytime soon, so if anything I'd rather invest in glass for the time being. But I know my RII won't last forever, so if I had to, I'd upgrade to the RIII rather than the RIV. The price would be right, especially used, and I won't have to buy a new computer to handle the files the RIV spits out, on top of paying for a new camera body. I'm a hobbyist, not a professional so top-end specs aren't as important to me.
I use my R2 for landscape photography only and don't see even a single reason to upgrade to either of these. They simply do the same stuff with the same level of inconvenience (I hate Sony) :)
I have the r2. (And the first, original 7). I "upgraded" to the r4 and my pictures are not better. I can't get the r4 to focus. Poor investment for me.
I have the A7riii and needed a backup for work, I decided to get a second hand A7riii rather than A7riv. Since the A7iv is out photogs have been dumping their A7riii - GREAT!. The A7riii is a great camera and good enough for 99.9% of commercial work. The noise levels at say iso 3200 are probably similiar, or even the A7riii better given the lower pixel density. Plus getting a second hand a7riii as backup i can sell again later, reducing my losses. If I got a A7riv, the loss in value I guess would be more substantial.
I started my Sony adventure with the A7Rii. Its a great camera but a bit sluggish in processing the shots. I had 2 of these, one as a backup. As soon as the A7Riii came out I could not resist and still mostly use it today. It has everything I needed. Found no need yet to upgrade it. P.S. I bought a A7 converted to infrared and it works great and I realized that probably all of the A7 line are actually very good.
Great review Jared, as always! Two weeks ago I sold my R3 vor 2000 Swiss Francs, which I invested into the new R4. The step from the R3 to the R4 was not as substantial as was the one from the R2 to the R3. But Sony listend to us and improved the ergonomics and funcionality in several points, each of them not world-shaking, but in the sum resulting in a body which is more comfortable and thus a greater pleasure to use. I already owned most of the glass necessary to photograph anything, but could complement my lineup thanks to a bargain offer of the GM 100-400mm.
When I made the switch to Sony I went with the A7rII thinking I would have time to buy glass before the A7r4. Well I’m not there yet, but I played with one at PhotoPlus and wow! Great rig!

Charles Macro well here’s the deal. Canon has stated they are not going to develop any new glass for the EF. So you will be switching to something in the not too distant future. I think Canon is great, and the new Canon stuff is wonderful can’t go wrong. So is the Sony system. I used the 85mm ART while I was on Canon I wouldn’t use it on the Sony. Great lens! It was my favorite! I’m all native glass on the Sony. Just make sure you get full frame emount it will work on the Sony.
I have actually switched from an A9 to the A7R4. I do mostly wildlife and though the A9 was great my biggest issue with it has always been a need for more reach and the ability to crop or use APS-C mode with a 26mp readout has been amazing. Sure the A7R4 doesn't grab the moving targets as fast and I will miss some shots with the 10 fps vs the 20 fps but I that won't bother me as much as missing the shot that doesn't require super fast AF.
@@unknownKnownunknowns If I am going to be in a hide or will be using a tripod and know this ahead of time. So basically when targeting still birds. If I am going to be walking or have a chance at in flight birds I just bring my A1.
I´ll keep my A7R III, because: - Less noise at higher ISO, I´m doing a lot of astrophotography so there would be more postprocessing - With the bigger RAWs of the A7R IV I would have to buy a new PC (I plan to do this in 2-3 years for the A7R V 😉) - I want a better backscreen, the new EVF is great but it´s time to upgrade the backscreen - Fully touch operable menu system - I want to have the option to stack the Pixel-Shift-RAWs inside the camera (no problem if the camera is blocked for 5 minutes) As I shoot only outdoors, sometimes in bad weather conditions I like the new weather sealing, the new AF (real time tracking) is also great.
Over here in the UK the A7RIII is selling secondhand on eBay for around £1,600 so it was an easy decision for me. I'm very happy with it - apart from the screen! I really wish it was fully articulated and touch-enabled. Maybe one day....
I bought the A7R iii when the A7R iv was was in production and the reason I chose the A7R iii over the A7R iv was because it satisfies almost all my requirements and I could do with lesser file sizes. When you come back after a day of shooting in continuous and have close to 5,000 photos, the A7R iv takes the mickey out of you and not to mention the investments that need to go into hardware like HDD and memory card
I own the A7R iii.....only because when the A7R iv dropped last month I managed to scoop up the A7R iii new at $2289.99! This is my first non built in glass camera. My other two camera before this are Nikon Coolpic P610 and P1000. I do want to eventually upgrade to the A7R iv but after using my A7R iii for about a month and a half now I think Ill just still with it for a awhile. The A7R iii is an amazing camera and even being 2 years old is still currently ahead of Nikon and Canon......although the Z 7 would have been a second choice for me if it wasnt near the same price as the A7R iv.
You saying the A7Riii is still pretty good after coming from point and shoot cameras really hurts my soul. The camera blows any camera you've ever used out of the water by a looooong shot, and you say it's "pretty good"
@@ghostgrownmedicine7498 sounds pretty good yo me.....I also said for being 2 years old its still better than what Nikon and Canon is currently producing.
Even thought the 7Riv has more resolution, I don't think it translate to a lot of difference when we are talking on such a small real estate of screen. I notice on the 7Riv screen that it displays shadows super blown out with excessive red/magenta hues. I don't remember this being a problem with my 7riii.
I just received the R IV. I was needing a second camera and had been waiting on the A7IV until I saw the education discount on the R4. Got it for under $2500. I couldn't let that go.
Right... Sony need to upgrade their LCD screen resolution.. 3" is fine but 1.4m dot is kinda low... n been stuck at that number for quite sometime already.
I got the R IV because the better sealing, body, focus, and EVF improvements. Those things were some of the things keeping me fully invested in my canon dslr, keeping both as of now to see if I want to stick with Canon.
Both nice cameras but I hear the focus tracking on the A7R4 is quite a bit superior for wildlife/sports almost near A9 level but just not quite blackout free EVF would you agree?
Great video! If anyone is interested, in the used market in the UK you can get an a7riii with maybe 10,000 shutter count for about £1100. The same is around £2000 for the a7riv. I think price to performance says it all. I upgraded from an a7rii to the a7riii at the end of last year and that was a great leap. I don’t the leap from iii to iv is worth it for the price difference! Just my two cents, or pennies! ;)
I love my a7R III with the 100-400GM both for photo and filming, the IBIS is great and let my hand hold and film at both 400 and 600mm ( APS-C ) in 4K.
14.20 - I bought an used A6000. It reeked of cigarette smoke. Obviously ex owner was a smoker. I placed a box of soda powder in my dry cabinet. It helped a lot.
I seen one of Sony presenter at A99II announcement few year ago here in HUN. Ok the SQ-D real Sony developed standard and card format, but............... The power consumption of these (CF exp.) 8-10 times higher as SD case of writing and reading! This is one reason why 40% less the Nikon-Z and Canon R systems battery backup with only one slot. It was the answer at A99II event, because A99, A77 line used two slot SD, too. That time it was my question, too, and the technical Sony guy said above. Sony try to compensate with added buffer it for keep the good backup of Z batteries inside smart body! Not so often mentioned it about with the behind information. The super fast SQ-D and CF-E needed very high DC power rate case of writing. In the DSLR it is not high limitation issue, but in the smart MILC with powerful EVF the mission opposite with these standards. Highly not required or we turn back max. 300-400 expo and very short backup time in video mode! It frustrated you at A7II, A7rII ect. and me. I remember :-) I prefer well your videos! I hope my terrible english writing little help you understand why Sony avoid the mentioned card standard. But they made the SQ-D witch is big market, so not in the spot about topic because the sale of sensors and elements sensitive area. They deliver for ex. to Nikon, but in MILC world have to find other way for extra long term tak-tak-tak with 20 frame /sec. I think not so mutch user wish it, but the file size like case of A7rIV requiring well. I think new standart out of existing solutions will change in the near future! For me good enough and cost effective the SD II gen. card system. I working 7 years ago with EVF, THX for A99 SLT line. The added possibilities of the system are much higher as card writing speed limitation. BR Jared!
Your English is great, i listen to you much more than listening from any English speaker, because the information is useful and correct! Thank to Jared
Former Nikon user from 1970 in the darkroom ( full Monty) ...fast forward bought a rx100m4 ( since ripped off ) and now consider buying into the aR7 iii or iv full frame interchangeable world or get another rx100 (vii). I am an enthusiast ( video low priority) and want to spend more time post processing with Lightroom and presets. I think the quantity of the glass is more important at this point than the difference between the a7r iii and a7r iv. After many years of lugging a camera bag I have to admit the portability of the 20mp rx100 vii is still pretty tempting choice. Apples 1” sensor vs Oranges full frame. Yikes and the price $1200 vs $5000+ with 2- prime lenses.
The a7r IV was just outside my budget. In fact I had to go grey import to get the a7r iii and I love it. With 40m pixels I can crop like mad. Do I need 60m pixels? No.
Yes, that is what I did, I have them both now. Just nitpicking here Jared: the AF coverage is the same for contrast AF, not the same for the phase AF. The larger number of AF points in the IV allow to cover a wider area. This is quite relevant when shooting in portrait mode with eye AF. With the III the eye af will often not work as well. It does have a pretty substantial impact for who shoots portraits a lot. Also, the the IV has the real-time AF currently not available in the III. So the IV is a pretty substantial advancement in AF and imo deserves a full checkmark
As a wedding photographer in India, would not buy either Rlll or RlV continue with a7lll any day. Rather would invest in lenses & blowing up file size when final album is to be printed in 12 X 36 size maximum open size.
On this Sony A7r III 3 an important thing is missing which is the color inversion or negative. Very useful for reproducing color or black and white negatives. Many photographers have these negatives in stock and could digitize them. I hope this message reaches Mr. Sony's ears.
Excellent comparison, sir! I have a question...I have zero experience with Sony, and have been a Fujifilm-X shooter for about 8 years, first with an X-Pro1. My main interest is obtaining the sharpest, most detail-rich images as possible, given the constraints of time and funds. As a landscape and product STILLS X-T3 shooter (no video), Lately I feel like I've gotten the most out of the APS-C format, hence I have been debating on selling my Fuji kit (reluctantly), and moving into FF, specifically the Sony a7Rlll and lenses like the Sony 16-35 f/2.8 GM, Sony FE 55 f/2.8, and the 90mm f/2.8 G Macro . Since I shoot 99% tripod-mounted, neither IBIS nor video interests me. So, my question is, for large print output (around 24"x 36" prints), how much of an improvement in terms of image sharpness, detail rendition, dynamic range, base ISO performance, etc., would I see over the already excellent X-T3 (combined with the ultra-sharp Fujinon XF80mm f/2.8 Macro lens), when using the a7Rlll and the Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro or Sony 16-35 f/4 tripod-mounted? Thank you, Jared!
The price of Riii is 2000USD and the Riv is 3200USD in my city(both dealer’s goods with 1 year Sony warranty), the $1200 difference can get you a Tamron 28-75 and Sony 85 1.5, I’ll get the A7Riii and those two lens, lens are always worth to invest.
I got the a7r4 and all the night photography i shoot is no where as good as the a7r3. The a7r3 holds its own in the night shots. Don't know if i will keep the a7r4......Thanks for the video...
Jared, great video. I am ready for a new camera. My Sony 7 R is not working any more. So, Nikon Z7 2 with 24 to 200 for $3600 or Sony 7 R 4 which is on sale with the 24 to 105 for $3900.... i shoot landscape and travel photography for fun. THANK you in advance
Starting/Buying a new system.. the A7RIIIa is now $2800. the A7RiVa is $3500. I'm going for the new A7Riv for a $700 Difference. Outstanding comprehensive comparison! expected nothing less. solid!
If you don't have large hands, the deeper grip isn't needed. Neither body supports my pinky finger, so I either use a battery grip or a deep L bracket.
61mb puts the a7r4 into a specialty camera category. For example, using this for weddings and creating a workflow for 800-1000 pictures is just not feasible for a professional that shoots 50-60 weddings a year. But also any camera shake or lens not capable of resolving 61mp is going to defeat the purpose, and just cause headaches.
its definitely way too slow if you have to bang out shots. Really only a camera thats worth using if you do very large prints....Needing that many megapixels to do huge crops is just amateur imo.
It is sometime ago now i like a lot of options of the a7R iv but the missing possibility to photograph in mRAW format for instance, like on Canon and Nikon decided me to get the a7R III and keep some money for some good glass to upgrade my Canon glass to Sony and keep my workflow not overloaded with big raw files
I have decided to go for R4 because of the crop 28 Mpx for wildlife. The problem are lenses. 400/2,8 and 600/4 are extremely expensive. May be FE 300/2,8 (crop) will be the right one.
I found a used Sony a7R IV for $2800 with a good all around 24-240mm lens. I'll definitely end up investing in a few prime lenses down the road but for now that should keep me content. A monumental upgrade from my old starter cam, the Canon T5 Rebel.
Hi Jared. Nice video. I have an A7R2. I'm looking to upgrade. IQ is great for landscape but focusing and ergonomics are not so good. In Jan 2022, what do you suggest I upgrade to? I can get an A7R3a for $2000, A7R4a for $2600 or I can get the A7IV for $2675. All of them are new cameras including taxes. In addition to landscapes I have started shooting portraits, wildlife and perched birds. I would like to try birds in flight but would be a nice to have. I am not ready to buy the A1 at this time. Do you have a recommendation? Thanks!
Long awaited video, I love the improved grip, buttons and EVF, except that don't feel like dealing with such a large size files. BTW this comment is before I watched the video, lets see if watching it will change my mind. RIII its believable camera at much discounted price.
the most important question I have is, does the new, deeper grip also offer more space between the grip and the bigger lenses? My biggest complaint with Sony thus far as been simply that my fat fingers don't fit. Shooting for even 15 or 20 minutes at a trade show with the A7III or A7R3 left me with scraped and sore knuckles.
Could it be possible to have a comparison between Sony A7RIV and Nikon Z7 with last firmware? Or Z7 really sucks versus the Sony? I am still a Nikon shooter because I have lot of Nikon gear... Thanks Jared!
Question...what choice would you make between: Sony a7riii+Sigma art 24-70mm f2.8 or Sony a7iii+Sony 24-70mm f2.8(new)II or Sony a7rIV+ Sigma 24-70mm art f2.8.. .because I'm changing part of the equipment and I'm in doubt between spending more money on the new Sony 24-70mm f2.8 lens (US$2,300) or saving on the lens buying the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8(1,099) and then investing in the Sony a7r IV....
Im seriously thinking about changing my Eos 5Dmk4 for the A7r4. I have a ton of Canon glas though, but might keep some of them and get an adapter. Its a big leap for me though. Unless you print large images, I think the 5Dmk4 is good enough for portraits. I plan to buy the A7r3, but I will keep the 5Dmk2 for portrait because I love Canon colors. A7r3-4 for high ISO, follow focus, 2 cards and video. Wait a couple years for the new cameras.

When shooting kids in the studio or if I run around outside, and let them chase me and I shoot from the hip. With my 5D I am lucky if I get 3 out of 10 that are focused right (not the shoulder or the background etc). With that eye af I think would be a gamechanger.
@@lincolnshirepoacher894 Going with the R5 now thanks to its AF. So all good. Colors are fixed with the click of a button (selfmade presets), so thats no concern.
Software upgrades seem to come along only for specific features just before the competition is about to release theirs, just to keep one step ahead. Things such as a red focus box, which should be the simplest thing to implement hasn't filtered down th the Riii yet.
So which one would you go with and why? Take into consideration whether or not you own a mark III or are starting fresh?
Hey! Where are the "Frotography" t-shirts and bikini briefs (for men!)??????
After reading the specs of the A7RIV, I said the same thing. If you already own the A7RIII, there's really not as big of a jump as I would like in order to invest an extra thousand dollars. I usually skip at least one generation before upgrading my electronics.
I think I'm leaning toward the A7R IV due to the fact that it has nicer "knipples" and it is just much more Bad Assier...although I am considering an A9 as well...decisions, decisions.

I think if you are a wedding/event photographer you should get the A7r3 for file size and workflow stress on your CPU.
I think, A7 RIV deserves more than 1/8th of check mark for focusing, because it has 1) LockOn Tracking 2) EyeAF in video mode.
Yeah that lock on tracking makes it like a D6 and then some but in a mirrorless body in terms of AF.

Also the readout of the R3 is faster so less rolling shutter when using silent shooting

Regarding the ISO noise, ARIV apparently has equivalent or less noise if you downscale the images to the same MP as the ARIII in post.
I am a Sony user since 2010. And wandering if I should swith to Z7ii. I love the body design of Nikon.

I’m a pro and still use and love my A7rii
But Sony listend to us
and improved the ergonomics and funcionality in several points, each of them not world-shaking, but in the sum resulting in a body which is more comfortable and thus a greater pleasure to use. I already owned most of the glass necessary to photograph anything, but could complement my lineup thanks to a bargain offer of the GM 100-400mm.
Question: Do you find that your computer is now struggling with the file size? Your Lightroom or whatever workflow you're using?
Have not heard knipple since my grandpa who is from Pennsylvania said it in similar issues. Thanks for reminding me.

Charles Macro well here’s the deal. Canon has stated they are not going to develop any new glass for the EF. So you will be switching to something in the not too distant future.
I think Canon is great, and the new Canon stuff is wonderful can’t go wrong. So is the Sony system.

I´ll keep my A7R III, because:
- Less noise at higher ISO, I´m doing a lot of astrophotography so there would be more postprocessing
- With the bigger RAWs of the A7R IV I would have to buy a new PC (I plan to do this in 2-3 years for the A7R V 😉)
- I want a better backscreen, the new EVF is great but it´s time to upgrade the backscreen
- Fully touch operable menu system
- I want to have the option to stack the Pixel-Shift-RAWs inside the camera (no problem if the camera is blocked for 5 minutes)
As I shoot only outdoors, sometimes in bad weather conditions I like the new weather sealing, the new AF (real time tracking) is also great.
Exactly Tom. Thank you.

It frustrated you at A7II, A7rII ect. and me. I remember :-)
I prefer well your videos!
BR Jared!

Much more noise when viewed at 1:1 pixel, but once you scale down to the same resolution, the difference is reduced, but still an advantage to the R3.
Next: Sony A9 Mark II vs A9 please.
Your English is great, i listen to you much more than listening from any English speaker, because the information is useful and correct!
Thank to Jared
Watching this sept 2024 lol, A7Riii is a bargain now used 🥳🥳
Former Nikon user from 1970 in the darkroom ( full Monty) ...fast forward bought a rx100m4 ( since ripped off ) and now consider buying into the aR7 iii or iv full frame interchangeable world or get another rx100 (vii).
I have the a7r3 for the last 6 months and it’s an incredible camera. Gonna sell and get the 4 soon. 61 mp is nice.
I’m buying both because I make tons of money like Jared.
Hell yeah, me too!

What did you decide to do? I’m deciding between the xt-4 and a7riii right now
I'm going with a Sony a7 III
The price of Riii is 2000USD and the Riv is 3200USD in my city(both dealer’s goods with 1 year Sony warranty), the $1200 difference can get you a Tamron 28-75 and Sony 85 1.5, I’ll get the A7Riii and those two lens, lens are always worth to invest.
I got the a7r4 and all the night photography i shoot is no where as good as the a7r3. The a7r3 holds its own in the night shots. Don't know if i will keep the a7r4......Thanks for the video...
For night you should have got A7III or A9. Bigger pixel area matters for higher performance in low lights
Outstanding comprehensive comparison! expected nothing less. solid!
Hey Jared, Nice video,
I am a travel and street photographer, Sony a7riii Is it good choice? suggest
I just put Sony stickers on my Nikon dslr and it works just fine I don't have any problems with that upgrade 🤔 haha
Hi, which Nikon do you have?
@@АнтонШакун-н3х I have a 7 yo d810
The price is the deal-breaker for me. :D I'll go with the A7Riii
Wait for the Nikon D6. Only buy the Top of the Line!
Yes. Been to Hawaii and Ireland took some great photos
I bought a A7rIII as my first camera and I love it.
If you've got the money, get the Riv, it's better all around, even if not a lot. Both are great cameras, buy what you can afford.
Hi Jared.
Been faitful to Canon since I started as a paid photographer in 1998 (and as a hobbyist before that). Any thoughts about what I should do? Im a portrait photographer.
@@benoithyperlord I do print large but Thats not the main reason Im looking at the a7r4. Its the autofocus. When shooting kids in the studio or if I run around outside, and let them chase me and I shoot from the hip. With my 5D I am lucky if I get 3 out of 10 that are focused right (not the shoulder or the background etc). With that eye af I think would be a gamechanger.
@@robertbjork You would be a proper twat to change if you own glass. The Sony color science is utterly shit.
