I’ve owned a 7Rii for a half-year, and love the high resolution. One day I’ll move up to a newer one, but this is still the same sensor, and that’s the biggest feature, for sure!
I totally agree that high res is a huge advantage, it's quite fun to crop and re-frame photos, and every single lens you buy, it's like a double when switching to APS-C and the quality is still excellent.
Thanks a lot for making this video. This is a decision I've been trying to make and you absolutely pointed out several things that I've not seen in any of the many other videos I've watched on this topic - ie 500k vs 200k shutter and construction quality. I hope this video makes it further up in the search results as I think a lot of people are unaware of some of the points you made.
@@budstran2121 LOL me as well, just got the A7riii, wow what a difference from the A6000, but I still think the A6000 was a good first camera, just the photo's on the A7Riii just pop out, amazing difference in auto white balance too, the A6000's weakest link.
An alternative to the 1 and 2 options for different shooting settings, you can use the toggle/hold feature to set a custom button to quickly change shooting settings to increase shutter speed, drive mode etc. It's an incredible feature. I do this for wildlife/birds because you simply don't have time to switch to another setting. I use 1 and 2 for filming in 24 and 120 fps. Thanks for the video :)
Picked up my used a7iii a couple of days ago for 4 reasons: - Money (got it 900€ used and there's no way you'll be able to find an Riii down to that price just yet, lowest was 1250 or something) - Low light. Both in video and photos that thing is a beast and is rightfully in the middle of the resolution vs sensitivity battle, it's a much better all rounder than an R or an S camera. Anything you might want to get into you can with this camera and that's a big selling point to people without a lot of money to throw around. I also do a lot of astrophotography so an R wouldn't cut it, I was growing tired of fighting against noise. 24mp still allow for some cropping too, 12 or even 10mp in apsc mode are both more than enough for online posting or small prints, it's just more limited to re-framing instead of getting extra reach out of a photo. - Lenses. With more megapixels you need better quality glass (if you want to utilise them) which means more money being thrown again. With a 24mp sensor I can get away with lenses that are even considered bad in the community which is really important to me. - Storage. Can't be buying 4k capable quality sd cards all the time or cleaning my storage devices to find space. I'm a little trigger happy so these 24mp fit like a glove to me. I do think that if you have the money an a7Riii+ camera is the best choice, but one point still stands and that's low light performance. Unless some kind of wonder material starts getting used soon I don't see the R cameras beating low megapixel full frames at low light. Edit: The a7iii gives you a 10mp image in crop mode, not an 8mp one.
I actually just found a crazy deal on a a7riii at a local pawn shop, I got the camera with a lens for $475 usd before tax and the whole thing is like new, totally thinking they priced it wrong or something lol.
Very good comparison review. Thanks. I already own the 7R3, a decision from the beginning I made for the size as I was primarily purchasing it for architecture and large prints. However, I was dickering back and forth on getting a cheaper 'B' body as backup, and have decided NOT to get the a73 as several features I care about would be missing entirely. I think I will just have to wait until people buying a7R4's are jettisoning their good-condition-used a7R3's and just get a 'spare'. Thanks!
Hi Randolph --- I think that is a good decision! As I mentioned, the additional expected life span alone could tip the scales in favor of the A7Riii in my opinion. Given the prices are somewhat similar at the moment, it makes it easier; as you said, many are dropping their R3s in favor of the R4s. Thanks for watching! Appreciate it.
Thank you very much for the comparison between the two cameras. I have both cameras and they complement each other very well. Crop mode on the A7III is 10 MP not 8 MP , inferior to the 18 MP A7RIII but usable. The difference in resolution is evident when working with the photos in PP but not when the photos are used in social media or printed at sizes that are common to most people. For landscapes there is no doubt about which camera to use but for other types of photography having smaller files has its advantages. both to work in PP for a more comfortable workflow without having to have a supercomputer and for storage reasons. Without saying that the A7RIII does not work well for weddings or street photography I think the A7III is a better tool.
Sir best for lowlight photography which best r3 7iii ..i want buy faimly photograhphy which camra body sugest me in 2022... extreamly low light excilent image quality.please guide me
I was trying to decide between the A7Riii and A7iii. I went with the A7Riii since I wanted to be able to print big. It was also on sale and got it for US$1718 + tax (with education discount). The A7iii would have been about $1550. I am still waiting for the camera to arrive, but was worried if I made the wrong decision by going with the Riii when everybody says you don't need high megapixels and 7iii is an all-around better camera. Your video made me feel better :). I also bought the Tamron 28-200mm. Will add a couple of primes in the future.
Hello I'm huge fan of yours and i need one suggestion from you, I'm a hybrid shooter and i want to buy my first full frame camera, so i buy Sony A7iii or I'll wait for A7iv ?
Hi Parths! Thanks for the kind words. Well, I suppose a budget question will come into this answer. Of course, the A7iii is great and capable camera. With that said, I would simply go with it, and invest in lenses. Many top notch guys shoot with the A7iii. If at some point you think you NEED the A7iv, well, then flip your A7iii on the used market (buy it used, too!!) and you probably won't lose so much on your investment; plus you got crucial time to practice and fine tune your skills. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of it! Enjoy and have fun!
On this Sony A7r III 3 an important thing is missing which is the color inversion or negative. Very useful for reproducing color or black and white negatives. Many photographers have these negatives in stock and could digitize them. I hope this message reaches Mr. Sony's ears.
@@GourangaBasumatary A7RIII is a monster in photography, it is pretty good in low light situation too and it is good for video, so i suggest you this camera. A7RIII is a pro product, A7III is a semi-pro product
Been using the a7 one for years. Been looking to upgrade (due to the battery life and the focus) to the a7 iii. But now the a7riii is looking good 🤔 price difference is £299 here in the UK 😅
Less than 400 subs and a better video than some channels with 100K+ subs. Thanks for this, very useful video. Have you tried any Sony APS-C glass on the R3?
Hi @PadPoet, thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I haven't tried any APS-C glass on the R3, no. I have however used (and still use) manual focus lenses like the Minolta 55 1.7, Tamron SP 500mm, and Contax Zeiss C/Y 100-300mm. You can find videos of the latter two on my channel! Have a good one!
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for this video, even at today's date in time! I was considering downsizing to a a6600 or similar for an upcoming trip to Portugal but after watching your video, it has reassured my love for the RIII and, has prevented me from what I believe would have been a huge mistake. Thanks so much!
Hello from four years later. Used prices for either camera are currently about the same. One advantage that I find with the R model is in using Clear Image Zoom (JPG-only mode). The resolution is high enough to avoid most of the artifacting and loss of detail to be expected when used on a camera of lower resolution.
I just sold my A7III and picked up an A7RIII. Ability to crop and still have great resolution, higher resolution in apsc mode and the shutter lifespan were my main reasoning.
Hi sico ! Did you miss the video quality, AF, and low light shooting of the A73 ? compare to this one ? I´m going to buy my first sony body, and trying to decide between this two.
@@diegocostantini7624 I don't shoot video. For stills the AF is still better than every other Sony body before it, so great but not quite to the same level as the A7III but the only thing I miss slightly is the low light performance. A7RIII is still great in low light for my use though.
I'm I the only one who caught the "accusations" instead of "actuation's" 😅 at the 2:23 mark, awesome review. My wife just got me the a7Riii for fathers day so I am looking forward to use it.
It's 2023 and when i saw someone selling a7riii earlier this year, i took the chance to get it. As a photographer, i think the extra pixel really suites my style of shooting.. I can go back and forth from crop to ff just by setting my c3 into 1 push button switch from ff to crop and vice versa without loosing much pixels.. It's like having 35-50, 50-85 85-135 at the same time at widest aperture.. Take note that i also used a7iii before. A7iii is a bit better for videos esp low light but it's not noticeable.. Prints in both bodies is quite similar but the r3 has and edge when it comes to large prints..but but but what really sold me is the versatility of it when it comes to shooting between ff to crop and vise versa..
Good video! I’ve had the a7iii for almost 2 years and I’ve loved every min of shooting with it. That said, I’m purchasing an a7riii next month for all the reasons you mentioned. My 7iii will be my dedicated video camera or second/back up camera for my shoots. Can’t wait to get mine, happy shooting.
@@JeanV1986 I have been loving the Riii. I mainly shoot in studio so my ISO never goes above 400. I do shoot weddings and events on occasion, and in those instances I shoot with the 7iii primarily. Since the release of the newer cameras, I’m heavily considering buying 2 a7IV’s and selling my Riii and 7iii. I have over 220k shutter actuations on my 7iii (which is only rated for 200k) so I think I’m coming to the tail end of the camera life. My Riii only has around 40k, so there’s plenty of life left in that camera. Decisions decisions. I hope this helped Jean.
@@YourSpongeBoy thanks for your quick answer! I'm loving the A7iii honestly but I wish the screen was better, the evf is ok but could also be improved. Also, the more durable shutter is a plus. The extra resolution is not really essential, though I could use some cropping power . I just wish the A7riii would have a sRaw option like Canon cameras.
If you're truly going solely for video; I'd say go for the A7iii. However, that said, I'd wait juuust a bit then to get 4K60p, likely to come with the next A74... It is already in the Fujifilm XT4, for example.
Thank you! .. I watched this video over a year ago when I was making the switch to Sony full frame. The points about R3 build quality & shutter life where great points that no other reviews seem to cover. My main reason for getting R3 was for the detail & cropping. I only shoot with primes at mostly club events so the ability to crop in a lot has been so valuable. I now only use the 35mm 1.4 GM & the 50mm 1.2 GM with the 7R3. You were correct about ISO, I shoot in a lot of dark clubs, so 8000 is max on R3 I find usable too. Now that they have updated the LCD screen I may get another as a back up. I got the R3 new for $2,500 (US dollars), worth every dollar! Thanks again !
@@ericinthewild So the A7iii is better for video thats mainly why im looking for a camera I saw a guy selling the 7riii for about 1500 hence why im watching videos this would be my first camera
Great video on comparison. For me one of the big differences is the filter. Aside from the megapixel count difference, the Anti Aliasing on the a7iii softens the image and changes it. The texture and colours are different.
the fact that i saw clip on reddit where someone zoomed into an eye of a baby and saw a reflection of someones face is a testament of how insane a7riii is
Hi! Great videos, I appreciate them a lot! Deciding between a73 & a7r3...I’ve been leaning towards the R3, but something that has me worried is that I’m someone who hates dragging a tripod with, I enjoy handling my camera for even landscape/wildlife shots I take. A friend warned me with high megapixels with the a7r3, it will show more hand held shake. Have you found this to be true? Any insight is super appreciated!
Thanks Madeline! I also rarely have a tripod with me, but I've yet to feel like this cost me a shot! That said, it's true, the a73 will be impacted less by camera shake. This is an interesting question... I'm not really sure how to answer it other than saying: yes, in theory, the concern is valid, but in practice, I find myself leaning more toward the benefits that the a7r3 brings to the table.
Thanks for this helpful video. I just purchased the A7r III and was going to sell my A7 III. I then changed my mind and was going to send the A7r III back and keep my A7 III. However, after watching your video, I've decided that the A7r III will be a keeper and I will stick with my original plan to keep my new A7r III and sell my A7 III.
I'm using a a6500 and I really want to upgrade. I don't prep my shoots very much and I find myself cropping a lot after. A7riii seems like the right machine for me. I really want crop freedom. And you got me on the 500k shutter. It is impressive
Well, if you want crop freedom... you have it with this camera! Also, you could favor shooting in electronic shutter mode and therefore have an even longer camera-life.
It depends a bit on what kind of venues you will be shooting in, I think. If you are typically indoors, then the range of the a7m3 might be better. If you are shooting also video, then again the a7m3 might be better. On the other hand, the R provides the higher quality files (which are also bigger! so think about your computer setup and if you can handle a bunch of files 2x the size). The R also has that killer ASPC mode which essentially gives you a 2-in-1 lens...
Thank you this video made me click and buy the A7r iii, in fact only half way through, as it helped validate my 1 week research, and countless youtube comparison, but I think this was on target and nailed it. Thanks
Well, glad I could help! I also poured over research between these two cameras. I was so torn, that I quite literally got them both and tried them side-by-side to decide. I figured other people probably had this question too, and that's how this video was born (and kind of this YT channel in a way, too!)
@@auomi8762 I like it plenty, I went through national parks over Christmas, and pictures are stunning. What I would say is if you do mostly landscape, iiR is the way to go, but if you shoot more action and sports then definitely get the iiiR. IiR isn't as good with HDR and difficult lighting situations, and the focusing system is definitely slower
@@f1racer908 I actually ended up going with the Sony a7r4 for photos and the Sony a7s3 for video. Both together are a powerful combination. The a7s3 can be used in extreme low light situations as well
as i was waiting (about 2 years) for the 73 to drop under $1300 used (now even found for $1000) it seems that the r3 has also dropped to that price, which is pretty wild. after having watched a few comparisons my only concern aside from the obviously larger file is the lower light-gathering capabilities of the more populated sensor, a concern i also share for the 74, in comparison to the 73. i first watched a few comparisons of the 73 to the s2, which it ironically outperforms in iso, but the s3 is at the other end of the spectrum. is the slightly lower iso a worthwhile consideration in lower-light scenarios? and another important concern, is the lack of an a-a filter something that induces serious moiré?
Thanks for a great explanation! What about for food photography? I primarly shot indoor with my Canon 77D. But Will upgrade soon. Greetings from Denmark 👋
Hey, you are welcome! I think it will be GREAT for food photography. The level of detail will be quite impressive. Plus, if you pair that up with the use of pixel shift, you can really see the textures of some of the foods. I do think lighting will be one of the more important factors with food photography, but I guess you probably already know that! Take care.
I’d much rather buy the black magic camera, way superior video quality movie like, the only downside of it it would be if you’re in front of the camera filming yourself, but if you don’t film yourself then going black magic is a way better option, not to mention the 6 k cost close to a73
@@younesraouz6001 The A7iii has larger pixels due to the 24 vs 42mp sensor, which allow it to shoot in lower light. The A7s series takes that even a step further, if you are really more focused on video.
@@ericinthewild i think im going to go with the a73 for video, im switch from canon and planing on using an adapter have you heard of any problems using canon lenses on a7lll
I recently upgraded from the a7RII to the a7III, but the camera was defective so I sent it back to Adorama who promptly botched the replacement so I cancelled the order. I was mad at first, but then when I went through a different seller, I decided to treat myself and get the a7RIII instead of the a7III. It arrives tomorrow, and the more I see, the more I'm glad I went with the RIII instead. I was worried about fewer PDAF points, and being able to use them up to f/11 (I think) in the a7III vs f/8 in the RIII but loosing those megapixels always kept nawing at me, so in a way I'm glad Adorama screwed up which forced me to change my plans...
Hi John, as you said, I think you got lucky in some weird way! The R is great, and you are going to love it. I have not had one qualm about purchasing it. Plus, my trusty MBP handles the files much better than expected. I shoot in compressed RAW. Let me know how your experience goes! Also, do you think it would be useful to make a video about custom keys and menu setup?
So far I've only had it for a day, but I already feel it's a quantum leap ahead from my a7RII. The autofocus is absolutely sick. The only thing I'm disappointed with is it seems that the touch screen I can only specify where the focus point goes, but then I still have to focus with a camera button. I was hoping I could tap a spot and it would acquire focus. Unless I'm missing something? But other than that, it's a minor quibble. I haven't done much with the video features yet (I'm a stills shooter) but coupled with the 100-400GM it's been a beast so far. Overall I'm very happy with it. I think a custom keys and menu setup video would be a great idea.
I'm gonna get this in the end of 2023, I mean the A7r3A. Was about to get the A7IV but since I always shoot stills the hybrid features have less importance to me. Can't wait to try what this beast is capable of.
In general, less MP and the same sensor size will be better at absorbing more light, as there is more area per pixel! However, I have been impressed anyway with the A7R3. The full frame sensor is much better than apsc, for example. That said, if you are a night photography photographer --- well, then maybe check out the A7S series!
Finally someone made a video about a7r3 without any long chit chatting. This guy was straight to the points and explained well. No time wasted. Love it. Thank you and liked/subscribed. And I have a question to ask if you don't mind. Taking photos while traveling and hikes is my hobby. I currently own a Fuji X-E3 with a 10-24 lens. I love how light weight it is when I go on 3-4 hour hikes. The photos I take with it are good. But not great. I see a lot of noise on landscape photos. Especially the trees. Other than that landscape photos are great from 10-24 wide angle. I am thinking of getting a full frame to get better pictures. Quality of the image is important to me. Which camera and which lens would you recommend for my landscape photos on hikes and traveling? I don't do astrophotography nor bird photography. Just purely landscape and just taking pictures of cities/buildings where I travel. Or should I even switch to full frame? TIA
Hey thank you for the kind words! I'd honestly recommend the A7R3 with the Sony 24-70 f4. I have both, and I am very happy to take that setup on a hike. The lens is also sharp enough to give you some high quality results. The APSC mode of the R3 allows you even to have some sort of quasi-telephoto lens at 115mm.
Just found your video. I'm looking into shooting 1/6 scale figures (toy photography) and a lot of people recommend this camera. would you think the macro G 90mm lenses would be the way to go to really get the details on figures?
Most definitively. It will really work great. That 90mm Macro has been called one of the sharpest lenses ever, so I do not think you will be let down there... Also, I would recommend using the 'Pixel Shift' mode of the R3. I did that recently for a textile shoot and it was truly remarkable the extra level of detail you see. Enjoy!
Hi Marty! I used the A7iii, but I have a custom white balance setting and then apply a bit of color grading on top. Maybe I should make a video on this... hmmm... :)
Thank you for this video. Most of the videos I watched were made in late 2018 where the price difference was very high in between the two. I found both for about 170eur difference. And I belive the 7R3 is woth the extra 170eur. Would you say so? Could you recommend a lens for it? I wanted to get a 35mm 1.4 Distagon from Zeiss but I hear it has some quality issues and now I am leaning more towards the Sigma ART 35mm 1.4. What do you think? Thanks in advance. :)
Definitely worth it in my book (like I say in the video!). As for the lens, it totally depends what you are shooting and what you want from your camera. The lenses you listed are fast at F 1.4, but of course fixed at 35mm. If you are shooting a lot of street photography, those could be good choices. However, if you want a bit more versatility, then perhaps something like the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 might be better. With crop-mode on the R3, that would allow you to essentially have a 28-105 lens at F2.8 ... not bad! In any case, up to you, MrAston!
Hi @Guillermo Lopez, I am sorry I can't be of better assistance here as I rarely do astrophotography. I did not get the chance to compare the two myself on this topic. Just taking an educated guess regarding the resolution: the A7III/RIII have the same BSI (backside illuminated) sensor tech and have similar sensitivity per sensor area. The pixels on the higher res camera will be more noisy, but when down-scaling to some lower res, you can expect very similar results. Only if you go to ultra dark areas, the lower res sensor will have a bit better SNR (signal to noise ratio), as it captures more photons per pixel. In areas with 'normal' darkness, that difference will be totally drowned by ambient light.
Props on this. Its grueling to watch youtubers review cameras by just reading spec sheets. You should send this to Sony and see if they’ll send you more products to review.
Great video! That was a very knowledgeable review, not just vague first impressions. love how real it felt, too. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber :)
I had an A9 and a A7 iii, I decided they were too similar and I wanted higher megapixel images so I sold my A7 iii and got a A7r iii. No regrets and problem solved!
Great video that triggered my mind setup to switch A7III for the RIII but with some trade off. Currently, I have A7III and Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, Sony 50 1.8 and Tamron 28-200 which replaced 28-75 as the main lens due to its phenomenal optical performance and relatively fast aperture. So with that being said, I decided to sell 28-75. Please help me to decide, should I trade my A7III and T 28-75 2.8 for the RIII (still having T28-200) or just sell T 28-75 2.8 and buy another lens like eg. Zeiss 16-35 f/4. I mainly shoot family photos (running children :>, holidays), landscape scenery from family trips etc... and a bit of aviation (that Tamron 200mm in 18Mpx crop would give me 300mm with a room to crop even further in post ~8Mpx 450mm) I think that the main reason for me to switch is the resolution and the ability to crop or use (18Mpx) APSC mode but I'm not sure if this is a good trade-off vs buying another lens for A7III In terms of a low light performance on the A7RIII I've found (somewhere in the reviews) that RIII in crop mode behaves somewhat close to A7III, are you able to confirm that as low light performance on the A7III is the king and I afraid a bit to lose that.
Hi M C, Since you already have the A7iii, I think the decision is a bit more difficult. For instance, I bet the 100-400 + A7iii would be better than the 28-200 and A7Riii. I guess that would be a bit more expensive, however. If you are really feeling like you need more reach, than I'd say the lens is how to get it, versus the aspc crop-mode. Granted, that IS a perk. This is a tough choice, and it really just depends what you really want in the end. Is it worth it to you to get those better shots of the airplanes? Crop mode at 300mm isn't too bad, as you said. The A7iii does also have a better AF system, if that is coming in handy all the time during the family gatherings; but let's be honest, most cameras these days can nail the shot. Low-light would have to go to the A7iii, but honestly I have been impressed even with the low-light capability of the R... Yet, I do imagine, however, that the A7iii + Tamron would exceed the cost of the A7R, and maybe give you the option to buy another lens anyway (the Sony 85 1.8 portrait lens is a dream), unless you are thinking to get a new R. Just some thoughts, sorry it cannot be more definitive! All the best!
@@ericinthewild Thanks for taking your time to reply... As this is not that easy to decide I think that both options are good. I decided to take blind luck :) and put on sale combo a7iii + T2875 and T28200 If I sell combo first I will buy R If T28200 will go first I will but Sony 70-300 G or Sigma 100-400 As a side note, I've already had the latest Tamron 70-300 and got rid of it as IBIS wasn't enough at 200-300 f6.3 to keep the shutter speed down to not crank up the ISO (greetings from Ireland where its cloudy all the time and iso starts at 3200 with f6.3 at ~1/200 1/300) Only time will tell if this is a good decision but in the end, I think that either way would be a good option unless someone smarter than me will shake me saying ... what the ... are you doing 😄 Thanks and best of luck with your channel 👍 & SUB
Two months later... I was able to sell A7III and T 28-75 2.8 (leaving T28-200) and I finally switched to A7RIII + zeiss 16-35 f4 + Tamron 28-200 Im very pleased with the IQ.... and that freedom of cropping when needed. My high ISO concern was not needed, A7RIII does the job as well as A7III (maybe on paper it's a bit behind but in real life its very very solid). eg. Photos in restaurant in dimmed light conditions with iso 8000-12800, no problem 😉 I also noticed increase in sharpness on my Tammy, additionally, I was able to buy zeiss 16-35 f4 and with this camera the end results are just stunning. Have my zeiss on the body all the time as an everyday setup. Cheers
First of all I would like to say i love your content! I'm just starting out on photography and I'm looking for a good camera. The A7 III and A7R III both came to my attention. I want to do photo (streetphotography, portrets and nature) and a little bit of video both in light and low light environments. I am willing to splash some cash if the A7R III is really so much better (but this means I could only buy 1 good lens initially), where as the A7 III i could buy 2 good lenses. What would you recommend me to do in this case? Thanks in advance for your response!
Yorick! Thank you, I appreciate that. You find yourself in definitely one of those border cases, where I feel like you would be happy either way. However, I have to ask, where are you finding your prices? For me, the difference right now for the A7R3 or the A73 is very small: Certainly not enough to buy another "good" lens. So it's tough --- if I would base my answer on 1) that you get an extra lens with the A73, 2) that you would like to focus on street photography/portraits/video, and 3) kind of the underlying concern you built in about funds; I'd say maybe take the A73 + 2 good lenses versus the A7R3 + 1 good lens. Now, if the price difference isn't really there, and you would find yourself wanting a camera that is more capable for landscape, wildlife, or really for all of the reasons I listed in the video (longevity, crop factor, APSC mode); I'd say go with the A7R3! As I said in the video, the APSC mode basically gives you an extra lens with the A7R3 anyway ;).
@@ericinthewild Wow, thanks for your extensive answer! Indeed the price differences are very small. I mainly will use the camera to post images and videos on social media. If for example I will buy only 1 lens, which camera would you suggest and which lense would you highly recommend as a sort of good allrounder/starter lens? (And is the A7R also capable of good videos?)
@@TheDutchFreekicker depends on what you mostly shoot but you could get the R with one lense which kinda turns into 2 with apsc mode at a very usable 18mp. Ex, 50mm would be 75mm in crop mode
Very cool video and very useful. I had this dilemma a bit earlier, but I already made my choice for the R3. At that time I did not find your video, but it's very nice to get a good choice confirmation by seeing this cool video. Cheers from Brussels!
Great video! The a73 and a7r3 have a $800 difference in price on B&H photo now. My question is should I wait to see what the a74 will bring before purchasing? The rumors are that the a74 will be out before the end of this year.
Hmm, on the used market, it seems the price difference is less than that. For me, it was about 150 euro, and I resold the A7iii for the same price I bought the A7Riii. Anyway, you might be right regarding the new prices on B&H. I think the R was discounted for some time, and it's now gone back up. Like I said --- used is a much better deal ;) ... The A7m4 might be the cat's pajamas! If you want to wait, is up to you :)
I would wait...for sure. Either the a7iv will be awesome or you won't want the iv but the iii will drop in price. Either way you'll be happy you waited
Hmm, the ability to crop heavily might come in handy (points for R), however the AF is better on the A7iii. You can't really go wrong with either, however, as I am not primarily a wedding photographer; I want to direct you to this great video: ruclips.net/video/DSL4KSdZz98/видео.html
It is quite amazing! I also love the new creativity you can find in the crop.
Hey Ben, thanks a bunch! I appreciate that. Happy shooting.
a6000 user for the past 4 years. I WILL upgrade in 2020. Your video cemented my decision. a7RIII all the way! Thank you so much!
You are welcome! I got the A7R iii and haven't looked back. It is a great camera!
I bought a7r3 & still using a6000 too
@@budstran2121 LOL me as well, just got the A7riii, wow what a difference from the A6000, but I still think the A6000 was a good first camera, just the photo's on the A7Riii just pop out, amazing difference in auto white balance too, the A6000's weakest link.
Cool idea! Thanks for watching.
Best review ever on the A7Riii. I'm sharing this on! Thx from Norway
Share on my friend! Thank you for the high praise! And thank you for watching!
I've been swithering on this choice for weeks. Thank you for giving me the final impetus to go for the A7RIII
Glad to have helped Aaron!
Picked up my used a7iii a couple of days ago for 4 reasons:
- Money (got it 900€ used and there's no way you'll be able to find an Riii down to that price just yet, lowest was 1250 or something)
- Low light.
R3 has weather sealing
I'm upgrading from an A7II to the A7riii. The camera arrives on Saturday! Can't wait.
how is the upgrade treating you? thinking about doing the same
@@kimir_sux It's definitely worth it. The A7RIII has vastly improved the quality of my photography.
Paul King did you buy it used or new?
@@kimir_sux Bought it new.
Paul King very cool. I bet the autofocus is rationally improved. Enjoy!
Sir best for lowlight photography which best r3 7iii ..i want buy faimly photograhphy which camra body sugest me in 2022... extreamly low light excilent image quality.please guide me
I bought 7r3 over 73 for the resolution & now I know more reasons. Thanks
Sounds like a great deal! You're going to love it, I still use my R3 every day. Such an awesome camera, really.
Hey, are you still using the A7R III? What do you think about it?
That is exactly kind of review I was looking for
You are welcome!
On this Sony A7r III 3 an important thing is missing which is the color inversion or negative. Very useful for reproducing color or black and white negatives. Many photographers have these negatives in stock and could digitize them. I hope this message reaches Mr. Sony's ears.
I have bought a A7RIII after this video, THANK YOU!
Glad I could help!
Which one should I buy for both photo and video?
@@GourangaBasumatary A7RIII is a monster in photography, it is pretty good in low light situation too and it is good for video, so i suggest you this camera. A7RIII is a pro product, A7III is a semi-pro product

You sold me on A7r3, I will start saving now :)
Haha! Well, it is a great camera, so wasn't that hard to do ;)
Props for this guy, for not doing any cut in the video
Thanks Abi!
Great video... Considering to get one of these solery for video.
Been using the a7 one for years. Been looking to upgrade (due to the battery life and the focus) to the a7 iii. But now the a7riii is looking good 🤔 price difference is £299 here in the UK 😅
Hhhmm, not too bad... The battery life is on a whole different level. I am NEVER worried when having just one battery for the day...
One of the better, thorough and thoughtful reviews!!! Learned a lot. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Great video! I'm hoping to get a used A7RIII to ad to my A7III and A7C. BTW, what are "accusation"?
I sold the a7iii and have now a R, for sports so much better!THX for sharing.
Glad you are liking it! I definitely think the R has the edge for sports, especially with that ability to crop in.
Glad to help! The a7r3 is simply a great camera! 😊
Those sound like some good reasons to me!
@@sic04250f Thanks for your answer !!! :)
You are cementing my desire to purchase the A7R III, big jump from the Canon 90d I am currently running.
You're going to love it! The 24-105mm f4 is a commendable lens as well! I think I will do a video on it soon.

Great in-depth review so far. Which one of those did you use to record this video?
Thanks! The video was filmed with the A7iii. All newer videos are filmed with the A7Riii.
Very helpful! Upgrading from a Canon M50 to a Sony A7Riii!
Glad to help, Tim!
Nice! I think that is a perfect pairing. Enjoy the new R and happy shooting to you too! :)
My friend told me I would prefer r3 evf & lcd & now I know why
So how do you like the a7riii? I am in the same position, considering switching to the a7riii from A7iii.
Best review I've seen man.. been on the interent the whole time looking for thw right video. You're awesome and very engaging.
I was hell bent on getting the a7iii and came across this video. Time to do more researching
Thanks for the comparison. Which would you recommend for video?
If you're truly going solely for video; I'd say go for the A7iii. However, that said, I'd wait juuust a bit then to get 4K60p, likely to come with the next A74... It is already in the Fujifilm XT4, for example.
Interesting and educational! I found you in the black box community post. Looking forward to your future videos.!
Thanks Jon!
Thank you!
Hey you are welcome! I hope you are enjoying the camera!
With the release of a7r5 and a7iv, i snagged me 2 A7r3! twin bodies for event shooting.
Amazing! Dual-wield!
Thank you so much Eric for the informative comparison video! God bless you and good luck!
If I want to shoot a high quality video which one should I go for?
If video is your focus: try the A7iii or even the S series.
@@ericinthewild So the A7iii is better for video thats mainly why im looking for a camera I saw a guy selling the 7riii for about 1500 hence why im watching videos this would be my first camera
So much clarity in your explanation and reasoning.
Thanks!
Almost canceled my order of the a7riii and went with the a7iii until watching this. Thank you
Haha, I am happy with my R3!
That’s funny, I’m thinking about canceling my order of the 7iii right now in case I want the 7riii after this 😂
Thanks for this helpful video.
Good choice!
For wedding photography would you recommend the a7riii over the a7iii?
Thanks
How do you like your camera? I'm torn between this and the a7 iii
Take care.
For vedio best sony a3 or Ar3??
For video only --- A7iii
I’d much rather buy the black magic camera, way superior video quality movie like, the only downside of it it would be if you’re in front of the camera filming yourself, but if you don’t film yourself then going black magic is a way better option, not to mention the 6 k cost close to a73
@@ericinthewild Why is that ? Is it the quality of the video, or more useful features for video making ?...
Enjoy it! It really is a great camera.
I have the a7rll, and will be upgrading to a7riii. Even with the 2, the cropping detail is just phenomenal, so I'm looking forward to the iii!
I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the upgrade :)
Insightful analysis. Love it
hi.
i am a sony ZV e10 user. which one is more worth buying for this year with a price difference of $320 in my country
Useful explanation which i was searching... 👍
Hey, what about night photography?
In general, less MP and the same sensor size will be better at absorbing more light, as there is more area per pixel! However, I have been impressed anyway with the A7R3. The full frame sensor is much better than apsc, for example. That said, if you are a night photography photographer --- well, then maybe check out the A7S series!
What camera was used to film this particular video?
The A7iii

Right? It's a beautiful world out there ;)
Finally someone made a video about a7r3 without any long chit chatting.
@@ericinthewild Now that Sony A7C is also out. Would you still recommend A7R3 over A7C? TIA
@@lcorr090k6 I haven't had a chance to test the A7C! Tell Sony to send me one and I'll let you know ;)
Cool,How r3 compares r4 for image quallty?
They are both great --- R4 gives you of course a slight edge; whether you need that is the question...
Welll thought out. Thank you.
Enjoy!
@@ericinthewild awesome! thank you for the tips, It'll be a bit I have to save some money but I think ultimately this might be the way to go.

Hi Marty! I used the A7iii, but I have a custom white balance setting and then apply a bit of color grading on top. Maybe I should make a video on this... hmmm... :)

Great Quality Video. I can tell your Channel will do AMAZING with this high quality content! NEW SUB!
Hey thank you! I appreciate that. Take care.
Great video and points
honestly helped me decide
You are welcome Sierra! Glad to help :).
Good work. thank you for your sharing though.
You're welcome!
Thanks a lot for the video, I have a doubt regarding night photography. In case to take stars picture, the a7riii is better yet?
In areas with 'normal' darkness, that difference will be totally drowned by ambient light.
ericinthewild Thanks a lot for your answer, I really appreciate the time that you took for this. Regards!
Great Review... You were very detailed and generous with your time and effort
Thank you Jerry --- I appreciate the appreciation!
This is a very good comparison
Thanks Tyler! Hope it helped.
Props on this. Its grueling to watch youtubers review cameras by just reading spec sheets. You should send this to Sony and see if they’ll send you more products to review.
Thanks! I appreciate that. @Sony are you in? ;)
For wildlife Witch does best?
I'd say definitely the A7R3! The extra MP really help with cropping in for added zoom and detail :).
Great a7riiii
Love your video. Subcribed!
Thanks! Appreciate it.
I love my Sony a7Riii!!! :)
Enjoy
Is it good for making more videos? Af?
Great video! That was a very knowledgeable review, not just vague first impressions. love how real it felt, too. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber :)
Glad to have you Andy! Happy the review helped.
I had an A9 and a A7 iii, I decided they were too similar and I wanted higher megapixel images so I sold my A7 iii and got a A7r iii. No regrets and problem solved!
First time viewer, great video. I’m real big into Landscape and Wildlife photography, which is the better of the 2 for that?
Thanks! Definitely the R! :)
Great video on A7RIII vs A7III!
Thanks Pavan!
Nice video thank you for the information!
Glad it was helpful!
very articulated review, definitely useful , many thanks
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
I mainly shoot family photos (running children :>, holidays), landscape scenery from family trips etc... and a bit of aviation (that Tamron 200mm in 18Mpx crop would give me 300mm with a room to crop even further in post ~8Mpx 450mm)
I think that the main reason for me to switch is the resolution and the ability to crop or use (18Mpx) APSC mode but I'm not sure if this is a good trade-off vs buying another lens for A7III
In terms of a low light performance on the A7RIII I've found (somewhere in the reviews) that RIII in crop mode behaves somewhat close to A7III, are you able to confirm that as low light performance on the A7III is the king and I afraid a bit to lose that.
Hi M C,
Since you already have the A7iii, I think the decision is a bit more difficult.
I decided to take blind luck :) and put on sale combo a7iii + T2875 and T28200
If I sell combo first I will buy R
If T28200 will go first I will but Sony 70-300 G or Sigma 100-400
As a side note, I've already had the latest Tamron 70-300 and got rid of it as IBIS wasn't enough at 200-300 f6.3 to keep the shutter speed down to not crank up the ISO (greetings from Ireland where its cloudy all the time and iso starts at 3200 with f6.3 at ~1/200 1/300)
Only time will tell if this is a good decision but
in the end, I think that either way would be a good option unless someone smarter than me will shake me saying ... what the ... are you doing 😄
Thanks and best of luck with your channel

Two months later...
I was able to sell A7III and T 28-75 2.8 (leaving T28-200) and I finally switched to A7RIII + zeiss 16-35 f4 + Tamron 28-200
Im very pleased with the IQ.... and that freedom of cropping when needed.
My high ISO concern was not needed, A7RIII does the job as well as A7III (maybe on paper it's a bit behind but in real life its very very solid). eg. Photos in restaurant in dimmed light conditions with iso 8000-12800, no problem 😉
I also noticed increase in sharpness on my Tammy, additionally, I was able to buy zeiss 16-35 f4 and with this camera the end results are just stunning.
Have my zeiss on the body all the time as an everyday setup.
Cheers
Thank you for your comparison!! The video was very informative! It was to the point and not a lot of unnecessary/excessive talking.
Glad it was helpful!
Glad it helped Sebastian!
Great presentation, thanks for your help!
You're very welcome!
what mic is that? sounds like he's in a studio but outside.
Hi! I love your videos! I’m a beginner wedding photographer. Which camera would be best for me? Thank you so much!
PS: Thanks for the compliment!
ericinthewild thank you so much for responding to my comment and tagging that video! I really appreciate it! Have a great day 👍
