Only 2/3 yard for each print! After making the video I re-calculated and it didn't take as much fabric as I thought 😁
I Love the guilt you just made. Thank you for sharing. :)
Could this be done like a bargello, but with wider strips?
Hi,Donna here is Fozia from Pakistan.I love your all tutorials. All the videos are really superb.
Love from Pakistan.Stay blessed.
Is this why you have so much left over?
I almost turned off the video when I saw you were cutting squares, because I thought strip piecing was more efficient. But I love your method.
This is one of the prettiest quilts I've seen you make....and I've seen pretty much alllll of your videos. (Why binge watch Netflix when you can binge watch Donna Jordan at Jordan Fabrics?!?) Matt chose some gorgeous prints! This seems bigger than I need so I'm thinking of cutting only 3" squares. I presume the pattern works the same. I just bought a bunch of Christmas fabric; I hope my design eye works as well as Matt's. And, oh, how I wish I had that size table to lay my quilts out on.
Oh my goodness I too wish I had a big table. I have a dining table but it's horizontal and not easy to put a big square on. But like you I just love Jordan Fabrics Donna and Matt and family. I live in London so no hope whatsoever in going to see that fantastic store. So all their videos are precious to me.
This quilt is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing
Well, I may go to the library to use a large table in the back room when the time is convenient for them
They make it look so easy lol. The fabrics and how the paired them are breathtaking.
My first tacked quilt 43 years ago, I laid on my king size bed to tie it. Went to take it off the bed to finish the edge and we had tied it to my comforter in several spots. lol Decided to use the dining room table no mater how hard it was. lol
I'm so impressed how you don't get confused w the order of colors/prints/shapes, etc. No.matter how i organize and plan I still get things mixed up and turned around.
You make the prettiest quilts of everyone. Watching your vids is like walking through the Louvre as opposed to the Walmart.🤗
Thanks for the 2 tutorials! I was delighted to see the tying tutorial last week! When I was teaching kindergarten, I read several quilt centered books to the children, had them bring in a shirt they had outgrown, and cut the shirts into squares. The children then hand sewed the squares together (eye/hand coordination, tying knots on both end of the thread, etc.) At the end of the quilt making, I took the quilt top home, machine sewed EXACTLY where the children sewed to secure the squares while retaining their stitching. I added batting and a backing and turned the quilt inside out. The class then took turns hand tying with yarn...4 children at a time so they could talk. What a great quilting bee we had! When the quilt was completed, we had a celebration breakfast, inviting the parents AND the head of the Battered Women's Shelter. We presented the quilt to the Shelter. What a great learning experience and my first step into the world of quilting. Just wish I had heard of applying fray check.
What a wonderful person you are and a great gift you gave to those children. They learned how to work together, how create, how to reused used items, how to donate to charity…. I’m so very impressed.
My grandmother made one of these when I was a child. I am in my late 70s now. Her finished squares were 1" and construction done on the diagonal. Grandma only finished 4th grade. She made many many quilts. They were all beautiful and true treasures. I'm so grateful to you for being on RUclips.
Love you tutorials and all your handy tips.
What a treasure to have. Congratulations.
Just when you thought it was safe to watch one more Donna video with out getting out your sewing machine and materials. She does it again 😂. Once again Donna and co, brilliant video and clear easy to follow instructions. Big thank you from UK 😘🥰
Donna and Matt, this is my favorite video you have ever made besides the frog you made Donna. It's not even my favorite quilt pattern but I love seeing you guys working together. I love how you flipped the quilt and hand tied instead of binding. I have watched this video like 10 times lol you're such an inspiration for me.
One time when I was little I was napping under one of Grandma's quilt and I picked out the ties. Naturally grandma was upset. But kept her cool. She lived to 106
I have never seen a trip around the world done your way before! Its fabulous; I'm always up for a new technique, thank you Donna :)
I’ve made a trip around the world Quilt before but this method is so much easier. Thank you for all your videos, tips and for the quilt giveaways. Very kind and generous of y’all.
I love the way you made the trip around the world. Amazing work.
Love the way you show how to pick up and sew, I would have NEVER have been able to work that out. I just love your videos x
i was thinking of making a paste up sheet to help me be sure the fabrics are in the correct order
I love this quilt! Matt picked the perfect fabric, at first I was worried the fabric was too similar but was I EVER wrong. I'm definitely going to make this quilt, thank you for showing your version of assembling a Trip Around the World!! ❤️💚❤️💚❤️
I thought the same thing! They look so different after the top was finished. Beautiful!
Wow!! Now i know how to make it.♡♡♡ thank you Donna and Matt💙💙💙 love from Japan..
I love it when Matt makes an appearance!
I've loved this quilt & saved the video ever since it was 1st posted. It wasn't until day 15 of quarantine that I decided to make it. However, since we are on quarantine I'm unable to go buy 13 different fabrics, as Donna recommends in the video. Even if we were not in the middle of a WW pandemic, I live in a fairly rural area & buying fabric means I'd be all day driving to the city. I often buy fabrics on-line & didn't want to wait until a June shipping date. So off to dig into my stash. Ha ha ha... I only wish I had a stash like Donna's. I come up w/ 3 different shades of blue, 3 different shades of white (all 2 yards each) & a small half yard piece of another shade of blue. I decide I want to make it for a twin-sized bed, even though Donna's pattern is a little larger than queen sized. I'm not new to sewing, but fairly new to quilting. I was an English major & math is NOT my strong suit. I wonder how I can possibly make it work; should I cut the blocks to 2 or 3 inches instead of the 4 inch size? I nearly give up UNTIL I notice Jordan Fabric's
phone number is listed in the info below the video. I figure, 'What the heck have I to loose?' and I make the call. A delightful lady named, Roxanne, picks up. I tell her my dilemma & she immediately, without hesitation, graciously goes to work calculating the math; reworking the quilt's size for me, counting out how many blocks down, how many blocks across, & tells me the exact amount of fabric I'll need since it's impossible for me to get more during this WW pandemic. I, of course, profusely thanked her for her help. I'm posting here because I believe everyone should hear it. In the midst of a WW pandemic when the Fake News shows us nothing but hours upon hours of Fear Porn; people are scared, dying, terrified, violent, bankrupt, & some even fist-fighting over toilet paper... Roxanne proved to me that the entire world is not lost after all. The smallest act of kindness, the tiniest extra bit of effort can give peace to so many. I know it's just a quilt, but it's more than that... she could have blown me off, told me to get a calculator, etc... but she didn't. She showed sincere kindness & humanity. I can never express my gratitude to Roxanne for her over-the-top & above-the-board help she freely gave to me, but I do promise to pass it on & pay it forward. ThanQ, Roxanne & God bless you! I've never ordered from Jordan Fabric's, but from now on, whenever I need fabrics or any sewing goods, I'll be looking to them 1st!
PS. I just want to update: I've spent all morning at Jordan Fabric's website looking at fabrics. I've been to 100s of on-line fabric sites, order that way often, & even purchased a book of fabric swatches (over $100.) just to be certain of what type of fabric I'm buying without being able to put my hands on it. I LOVE their website! It's so easy to navigate; the pictures are bright & clear, their site allows easy viewing of all their stock with excellent descriptions and, to my great delight, their prices are very reasonable & shipping (over $50) is free! I can see I'll be knee-deep in beautiful Jordan Fabrics soon! :D
Absolutely amazing! I love how Matt has the eye for the right fabrics and I love how you explain in such detail. I must mention how we viewers don't miss a thing with the expert person behind the camera. Thank you Jordan family. Thank you!!
Donna is an excellent teacher. After listening to on one of her videos I feel I could actually make one of these fabulous quilts.
You all are so generous with your talents. That's one of the reasons we love you all. thank you for sharing.
Love the "Around the World" pattern done in Christmas fabrics! 💕 The giveaway quilt is gorgeous! One of my favorites. Thank you for sharing. 😊🌹
You make it look so easy to do all of the quilting you do it's amazing I am new at this I hope I can get as good as you one day thank you for your tutorials that you do. Thank you
I never even LIKED the "Trip Around the World" pattern until I saw your tutorial. You and Matt are both stars in the quilting world. The way you organized the squares before sewing and explained the sewing order....makes me feel like anyone can make this quilt...why not? It only took you guys 10 MINUTES!
Thank you, Donna! Once again you have un-daunt-ed a quilt pattern, and I do believe I'll give it a try!
What a gorgeous quilt and the way you just taught everyone how to sew it together was soooooo good. Thanks so much and your fabric is gorgeous too😊☘️
This is so pretty. I love both of them. Great job!! I'm so impressed by how you can keep track of how to sew the pattern. I must be pattern challenged. LOL
You make it look so easy. I love to watch you and Matt work together....wonderful teamwork.
Thank you !! I was hoping to see so many requests for this pattern that y’all had to do it! Going to download the pattern now! Happy quilting! 🧵🎉💐
I can't wait to to make one. Thank you Donna for making it look so simple and fun.
brilliant and so very generous of you to have this class for us for free!
We all have Christmas fabric and don't know what to do with them so they stay in our stash. This pattern showcases the fabric and lowers the stash. Thank you I'm started my Christmas quilts in January to get them done by December.
This just amazes me how quick that was, I know it isn't that fast in reality, but how it is done has been laid out so well. Thank you!
This is my next project. I love that you can use as little or as many fabrics. You make everything looks so easy and fun to make.
Imagine my surprise today when I opened your email. My most favourite quilt being made by my most favourite person..... Donna. By far this is the most beautiful quilt. I can't thank you enough for showing us how to make it. It's just magic come to life in front of my very eyes. Wonderful. Best regards Anita
Greetings from London
Update I made 4 baby quilts in this pattern. I can't make a big one I could never manage it. So I am waiting with fingers crossed to see if this Trip around the world will ever come up as a free give away. 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Update: it has just come up as a give away........🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏
Donna, idea of the I love your hand weight helping to hold template ruler. You are making it so much easier to put quilts together. Thank you and Matt. for all your helpful ideas.
I hunted down my hand weights. They are a true helping tool when I cut fabric.
I thought that was a great tip also :)
I know, right? Finally, a use for hand weights! LOL
I must get one of those. I've been using a bowl of fabric weights whch is heavy also but would love the hand weights
@@judithbenton1475 I picked up a few weights at one of our local thrift stores. Found a few other items, too. King size flat flannel sheets= new design wall, old wooden drying rack for sorting jelly roll strips and plastic bins for organizing scraps!
The first time I ever saw this pattern was a hand stitched vintage quilt that was incredible. The quilt was very large and the squares were very small...I’m guessing 2” or smaller finished size. The work that went into that was amazing. Have always wanted to make once since I saw that. Thanks if breaking it down and making it not such a daunting task.
I've made this quilt once for my daughter, but your method is so very easy and logical. Again, thank you and your family so much for making these tutorials.
Thank you Donna for a great tutorial. I took your 80"x80" quilt and shrank it to a 16-1/4" x 16-1/4". It turned out great. Of course going that small precluded using lots of fabric colors but the 7 that I did use turned out great and the squares went from 4" to 2". I really like your method of putting it together. Once I got it figured out it went really fast. On one block I have roosters marching around the square. Took a little planning but it turned out cute. For anyone making a road trip Jordan Fabrics is definitely worth it. I live in California and just discovered the shop this last summer while visiting my daughter. Now I have two reasons for going to Oregon. I am so blessed.
I am so happy you made this quilt tutorial! This is now my favorite pattern. I thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge with us❤️😍❤️
I love how you have your fabrics sorted and easy to keep in order. Thank you for your easy tips!
Donna , that is so smart and organized. I love your way of cutting and piecing quilt blocks.
I love this pattern and I am adding it to quilts that I want to make. You and Matt are an amazing couple and team. I am so happy that I found your site. Thank you!
WOW I wish my stash was like MAT'S STASH LOL - Love the quilt and would definitely love to give it a go, it's beautiful. Like Jody I also binge watch Donna Jordan and shall be this evening whilst my husband is watching the football ha ha. Thanks for another GREAT video.
I’ve been thinking about making this pattern, but until now thought that I had to make it via of sew and rip which seemed like a lot of extra time and effort. Now, with your tutorial, I feel confident I can achieve this pattern with less effort and a good result. Thank you, Donna and Matt.
loving this in the Christmas prints
This is by far the easiest way i have seen to make this quilt! Thank you for sharing your love of quilting.
The Christmas print version of this pattern is beautiful. Thank you for demonstrating just how easy this quilt can be made just by breaking construction down into four quadrants. ❄️
I love how this looks and how simple it is to bring it together!
I absolutely love your videos. You’re a wonderful creative teacher who shares her talent. You inspire me to do more than I thought I could. I have wanted to make this pattern for a long time but it just seemed so complicated. I’m going to make one now! Thank you both for all you do
Once again... You & Matt is Awesome!!! .. I love that tie quilt. You both do a great job!! Love you!
Years ago I attempted to make this quilt. Did more ripping than sewing! Love your method for keeping everything organized and on the machine. Thank you so much for another great video! Time to give this pattern a "go" again.
Love this quilt thank you Donna and Matt
I love this pattern, my favorite! Gorgeous and I love how you tied it. My grandma always tied her quilts so this brought back great memories.
I love this quilt and this technique so much! I am definitely inspired to tie a quilt now, and thanks to you and Matt, I know how to do it. Thank you!
So pretty. The pattern almost hints of a bargello.
I'm so in love with those fabrics
I have been working on those very fabric squares this week! Love them. I am going to try this style in the future..had no idea it was that easy! You do wonderful instructions! 👍💗
Great tutorial - love the method for putting the squares together. The quilt is gorgeous. Thank you!
I made a Trip Around The World Quilt in the 1980's. Your process makes more sense and I Love the choice of fabrics. I'm going to make a Christmas Quilt!
Donna, you and Matt are real treasures. I wish I lived close to your shop. This quilt has always intimidated me, so I never tried doing one. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing us how to make the trip around the world much easier.

Thank you so much Donna and Matt for this genius and generous tutorial ❤️❤️❤️ May God always bless you and your family 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you, thank you for demonstrating your chain piecing technique for this quilt. I prefer to chain piece but with the trip around the world I have not found an efficient way to lay the pieces without getting confused. This will be fantastic. Thank you for all your videos, they are a great source of encouragement.
Oh my word! This is brilliant!❤️ And gorgeous!
I just finished this quilt for my 2nd oldest granddaughter. At first, I was quite intimated and began it in fear, (self-taught quilter) but thus went together very easily. Thanks for the easy layout instructions, Donna. It turned out BEAUTIFULLY.
Oh that Christmas fabric is so beautiful! As I type, we are experiencing a blizzard right now in the Prairies, and that quilt would be so cozy......gorgeous!
This is a FABULOUS tutorial! Plus the ASTROS just won!
I am so thrilled you did this pattern the way you did!!! With squares not strips. Only because if we have precut sqaures now we know what to do!!!! This is one of my favorite things to do!!!! Great colors too!!!!!!
