The more polyphonic instruments you add like extra guitars and keys, the more the frequency range can get crowded and instruments have to compete with each other. A power trio can have more clarity as each instrument has their own space.

The four guys in Golden Earring has also played together since 1970. They did have some line-up changes the first years of their career (which started in 1961!) and some additional members along the way. But the four members that play together as Golden Earring today has been with the band since 1970. As a band with all original members still in the band, and never had any aditional members, ZZ Top are in their own league though.

Not too long ago, I bought my first record player and auido set up which is pretty decent.. that are far better and more expensive set ups, but as for the format and experience of it: golden.
I have a growing record collection, and I've yet to come across a decent Tres Hombres or Rio Grande Mud album, although I have several other of ZZ Top albums that are from the original mastering. It's physical attraction and (in my opinion) better sound, it's just an entirely different experience than anything on a digital format.

These guys are the best. Saw them live a few times and loved every show. My brother hung out with Billy and Dusty on the set of Deadwood and said they are the coolest cats around.

That looks like one of those imitation Gibsons that he roams all over the world searching out. That headstock, I can’t read. Pretty sure he leaves the best stuff home, old Guitar World interview is awesome. Not just Chibsons, others.

What a great band ZZ Top were. Just 3 of them, but with the fullness of sound and all the elements in place, blues, rock, vocals. Masters of simplicity
