I saw him live about 10 years ago with the conspirators. His solo was very, very special. I dont usually get down for that silly ego solo thing, but his was bbluesy and beautiful. Broke a string and kept on even when his roady's ran out on stage with a replacement axe. Slash said screw it, and hammered on.
The best hard rock acts have always had that blues core down in there somewhere, and Slash and G&R were no exception. Angus Young's style is largely Chuck Berry doing blues riffs with more attitude and volume than Chuck would have used, and AC/DC is arguably the biggest hard rock act of the last 40 years. Led Zeppelin was more than hard rock, but the core of their music came from blues as well. A Gibson Les Paul plugged into a stack of Marshalls was bluesy when Duane Allman did it 50 years ago and they still work today.
"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. Billy is so cool. That rhythm and his playing just has that groove you can feel. I remember when I was studying guitar at 9 years old with a jazz man. He told me that it doesn't have to be quick and many notes but you have to say something! When I think about my favorite blues and rock musicians I definitely know it to be true! Z Z top and Billy are masters at laying back a rhythm and I can listen to this stuff all night long.
I love the sound of the guitar and this song just is right for the Gibson and slash and Billy's playing is just truly amazing guitar playing. Love the song.
So awesome!! Yes Billy is awesome!! However, Slash is absolutely a class act in the fact that he too is a rock god but respects his elders and takes a step back and let’s him do their thing. Mad respect Slash mad respect!! I hope you’re around another hundred years!!
To my mind Gibbons is the single clearest influence you can hear in Slash's style. Listen to "Old Man" from ZZ Top's First Album and if, like me, you grew up listening to Slash, you won't believe it was recorded in 1971
Great stuff. Loved it. Slash is all over the place. He may be the most underrated guitarist of my generation (gen x). Saw him live at Legend Valley when Appetite For Destruction came out and GnR blew up on MTV. They opened for Aerosmith, but the crowd was all bout GnR - they brought the energy. Great show.
The legends that are Billy and Slash speak for themselves, but can we give that drummer a shout-out? Keeping up with Billy's nuanced style can't be easy.
This is because Frank Beard plays what is called a Ft. Worth Shuffle on the song. If you don't know what a Ft. Worth Shuffle is then learn it if you want to play authentic Texas (specifically North Texas Blues.) A Ft. worth Shuffle has the straight quarters played on the ride with the right hand and the shuffle played on the snare drum with the left hand. I have seen a bunch of pretty good drummers humbled when it came to playing this beat. With the Dallas/Ft. Worth area blues cats that I grew up playing with the ability to play this beat properly was a make it or break it deal.
Sounds like a private birthday party. It's professionally taped and there are plenty taking pics. If it's a private party, they're probably all fucked up as Cooter Brown as we say here in the South

There seems to be a conspicuous absence of heartfelt audience appreciation for Blue's Master Billy Gibson's guitar and vocal prowess. This speaks demonstrably to how thousands of people can be exposed to absolutely amazing music and still be totally incapable of realizing how truly profound it really is. This video should serve as eye opening epiphany for all of our life experiences. We often don't recognize a good thing in our lives till long after it's gone. Hopefully a few people from this audience will Google the Legendary Billy Gibbons and come to the realization that briefly hearing him perform just one song was well worth the price of admission to this concert venue!!!!🤔🎶🎸
