I'd love to see them keep the Arena environmental effects, but only during the 2 weeks or so of Offseason. Just like, a 2 week break full of goofy-ass Arenas in between the super-serious times.
Seems like they do a terrible job of advertising the TBC tournaments. I actively look for pvp content and I only heard about the last tournament after it was over.

Alts are not the same, they add space to the ladder as well. People who boost and spam team hop constantly are granting titles to teams they will not be staying on. There are some complex solutions to this and I've made forum posts detailing them but I doubt Blizzard will ever put in the creative effort.
