i think the fact octobrains die to one devastator rocket is actually one of the coolest design quirks in the game, one of those little details that give the games combat such a unique feeling. its a neat little fold to the game mechanically and encourages you to use that specific weapon against them and save rockets for other enemies. that being said i wouldn't be surprised if it was a coding mistake

Actually the pistol is near useless at long range while the shotgun is still pretty good at long range, requiring only a extra blast or two against pigcops or enforcers, it's got a tight cluster.

Duke has some of the best level design ever put into a video game. I randomly decided to play episodes 1-3 the other day, after probably five years, and I did it all in one sitting, never once getting bored. As much as I love Doom, most of the levels start to feel samey after an hour or two.
