Duke Nukem Megaton Edition was the best 2.49 I ever spent on a video game. So glad I bought it before it was taken off Steam. New episode aside, in comparison, charging 20 bucks for what is essentially less than the Megaton edition with a pretty good new episode is pretty low.

They changed the red cross icon because American Red Cross has recently been filing copyright complaints with game companies for using their logo out of an emergency setting. They don't want the symbol to lose it's meaning, which is kinda dumb but it makes sense i suppose. You'll find that newer games will be lacking that red cross.

In regards to the medkits having pill icons on them now instead of the red cross, I believe it's due to the International Red Cross complaining about it being used in games so maybe that's why they replaced it. This is also the same for the versions of Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II included in the DOOM 3: BFG Edition.

This price point is completely asinine, the only way to justify it is if they made a complete new game with 3 episodes, but that's too much work and effort for gearbox. Nerve software added an episode to Doom 2 on xbla and that version was $10, there's zero market precedent for this pricing. Also don't get why Randy thinks antagonizing the target audience is effective marketing, he needs to learn how to be humble and attempt to actually talk with the fans instead of talking down to them like he does. What he's done with the license is pathetic, bottom line. Make a real reboot and then people will come back, it's not rocket science here.

I've paid attention plenty. The rewind function was built to copy the rewind function that was in 3D Realms' own in-house port of Duke Nukem 3D for xbox 360. Multiplayer issues come down to the game itself and complexity involved in writing netplay code from the ground up preventing it from being done.
The cross on medkits in games, usually being the red cross, is actually an owned symbol by the Red Cross organization and only tthey are permitted to use it. The same thing happened to Stardew Valley with the originally red cross on Harvey's Clinic.
The red cross on medpacks was replaced because recent games have gotten in trouble because The Red Cross Organization (the charity) doesn't like its logo on random white boxes. I know, its dumb.
That new episode looks pretty good. I may have to pick this up whenever it goes on sale. Tough to justify the twenty bucks when I've got a host of other versions of the game already.

To answer your question about the med-kits with pills on them instead of red crosses it is most likely because Red Cross organization got their panties in a twist at Doom BFG edition when iD software re-released Doom 1 and 2 with "their" icon red crosses on med-kits. I don't remember if they sued or threatened to sue but they were real dicks about something that was released 20 years ago suddenly. So iD software removed the red crosses and replaced them with pills. Screw that organization, just look at the shit they pulled in Haiti (raised millions in aid funds and built only 6 houses) Shame.

One thing that is kinda cool about the Incinerator is if you shoot the ground; you temporarily leave a pool of incendiary liquid and it'll hurt the enemy if they walk on it.
Something that really bothers me is that Megaton Edition is now removed from the Steam store; it was a great game, but I guess it was done to prevent saturation of the market. Not like that doesn't happen already on Steam, but oh well.. I'm also bummed out that this game doesn't have Linux/SteamOS support at the time of writing this, as I game exclusively on Linux, so I will not be buying this until further notice.
its sad that the addons werent included. however pretty cool fact, i loaded one of the original maps from the worldtour edition in eduke32 and the lightmaps work for the polymer render, theres differences between the fanmade lightmaps and the worldtour lightmaps, in worldtour the cctv screens are coloured blue but in fanmade theyre either green or red as it works like a switch, also redlight district is alot darker in wordtour than in the original.
Fun fact: the likely reason for the replacement of the symbol on health packs is because the red cross started complaining that video games have been over-using what is actually their organisation's logo (real first-aid kits TYPICALLY feature a white cross on a green/red background or that weird asterisk with the staff with the snake around it)

There's also Renegade X you can try out. As for Insurgency, you can get it on Steam for $9.99 (or 13.19 in Australian Dollars).
A cool, little talked about, feature is the developer commentary. Be aware it is not on by default, so you will have to turn it on in settings. They got original developers to record several comments in the form of speech buttons in the game. It is reminiscent of movie commentary and is recommended for long time fans who might like some rare insights and a feeling of the devs accompanying you on a play through. I learned not all the devs are alive today and that Duke Burger takes jabs at the idea of using dogs for food and scrappy doo.

If it's cheaper on sale, I'll pick it up JUST for Episode V. I've been doing a casual playthrough of the Megaton Edition on my channel (will wait until summer to do Duke Caribbean though), so I might as well round out the lot.
I believe the red crosses on the medkits had to be switched out because of copyright issue with the Red Cross. Newer releases of the original DooM, like the Xbox Arcade version, also had pills on their medkits as well instead of the red crosses.
The ending is the best. Duke finds dead Serious Sam from Serious Sam games developed by Croteam. Duke return remarks to Sam with: Why so Serious Sam, because Sam sad to Duke: Dude, you've been hanging here, like, FOREVER.
Legacy duke talk does work. You have to keep duke talk and legacy duke talk on at the same time, (Weird right?). Just to make sure I printed up all the lines off the DN3D wiki page and painstakingly went through the game and made sure all 80+ lines worked correctly. And all of them do! On a side note if you just select Legacy duke talk, only a handful of the original lines will play and the new duke talk will fill in for the missing lines. Hope this helps anyone who may have given up on world tour.

Honestly, i'm a bit salty considering that I bought the broken ass Megaton Edition only for it to be removed from stores and go without patches, and now this is out with LESS content and costs $20. they should at least give a discount to owners of Megaton Edition. i'm not gonna spend another $20 on a game I've already purchased about 5 times, even with a new episode. Am I cheap ass? Absolutely.
My biggest question is will or does the game feature workshop support for levels and possibly other mods? This is a dealbreaker for me when considering only buying for one new episode.
EDuke32 is much better with software, polymost, and polymer renderers. More graphical settings, you can turn v-sync off, and there's no forced mouse acceleration

I think what Gggman is saying is that the new episode is definitely worth it, just not for the full 20 dollar price if you already own and have played Duke 3D countless times. C'mon Gaben, give us your sweet end of year sale, haha.

The new stuff looks good, but not "$20 good", so I'll most likely end up passing. Heck, I've already bought it twice, why buy it again? With 20$, you're better off getting Dust: An Elysian Tale, Strive: Veteran Edition, or Insurgency

flesh supply exists now, and it is easily the one with the best re-releases. Yes, it started out full of problems, but it is currently very good.
This price point is completely asinine, the only way to justify it is if they made a complete new game with 3 episodes, but that's too much work and effort for gearbox. Nerve software added an episode to Doom 2 on xbla and that version was $10, there's zero market precedent for this pricing.
Also don't get why Randy thinks antagonizing the target audience is effective marketing, he needs to learn how to be humble and attempt to actually talk with the fans instead of talking down to them like he does. What he's done with the license is pathetic, bottom line. Make a real reboot and then people will come back, it's not rocket science here.

No, they did not bully anyone into taking Megaton edition down. 3D Realms had to take it down when they lost the licence to older Duke Nukem games.
brunocar that's just not true at all. This version of the game is not based on the Megaton edition code and they did not "bully" the developer you speak of into anything.

The rewind function was built to copy the rewind function that was in 3D Realms' own in-house port of Duke Nukem 3D for xbox 360. Multiplayer issues come down to the game itself and complexity involved in writing netplay code from the ground up preventing it from being done.
The cross on medkits in games, usually being the red cross, is actually an owned symbol by the Red Cross organization and only tthey are permitted to use it. The same thing happened to Stardew Valley with the originally red cross on Harvey's Clinic.

To answer your question about the med-kits with pills on them instead of red crosses it is most likely because Red Cross organization got their panties in a twist at Doom BFG edition when iD software re-released Doom 1 and 2 with "their" icon red crosses on med-kits. I don't remember if they sued or threatened to sue but they were real dicks about something that was released 20 years ago suddenly. So iD software removed the red crosses and replaced them with pills. Screw that organization, just look at the shit they pulled in Haiti (raised millions in aid funds and built only 6 houses) Shame.

One thing that is kinda cool about the Incinerator is if you shoot the ground; you temporarily leave a pool of incendiary liquid and it'll hurt the enemy if they walk on it.

Something that really bothers me is that Megaton Edition is now removed from the Steam store; it was a great game, but I guess it was done to prevent saturation of the market. Not like that doesn't happen already on Steam, but oh well.. I'm also bummed out that this game doesn't have Linux/SteamOS support at the time of writing this, as I game exclusively on Linux, so I will not be buying this until further notice.
No, it was done because Gearbox bought the rights to it and they didn't want someone else making money off something they owned the rights to.

its sad that the addons werent included. however pretty cool fact, i loaded one of the original maps from the worldtour edition in eduke32 and the lightmaps work for the polymer render, theres differences between the fanmade lightmaps and the worldtour lightmaps, in worldtour the cctv screens are coloured blue but in fanmade theyre either green or red as it works like a switch, also redlight district is alot darker in wordtour than in the original.
Fun fact: the likely reason for the replacement of the symbol on health packs is because the red cross started complaining that video games have been over-using what is actually their organisation's logo (real first-aid kits TYPICALLY feature a white cross on a green/red background or that weird asterisk with the staff with the snake around it)
The red cross was changed due to legal action that was taken against Prison Architect by the British Red Cross, Basically the red cross on med kits while seemingly harmless in the context, The red cross said this: “If the red cross emblem or similar signs are used for other purposes, no matter how beneficial or inconsequential they may seem, the special significance of the emblem will be diminished" (also the red + sign isn't public domain ironically)

Gggmanlives You can get C&C: Renegade as part of Command & Conquer: The First Decade, or The C&C Anthology (or whatever it's called) on Origin, granted, you may also have to get the other C&C games as well, and seeing as how you're not a strategy fan, this can be a problem. There's also Renegade X you can try out.
As for Insurgency, you can get it on Steam for $9.99 (or 13.19 in Australian Dollars).
Renegade was a pretty fun game, that would make a good review!
A cool, little talked about, feature is the developer commentary. Be aware it is not on by default, so you will have to turn it on in settings. They got original developers to record several comments in the form of speech buttons in the game. It is reminiscent of movie commentary and is recommended for long time fans who might like some rare insights and a feeling of the devs accompanying you on a play through. I learned not all the devs are alive today and that Duke Burger takes jabs at the idea of using dogs for food and scrappy doo.

The removal of the red cross was due to legal copyright stuff involving ''The red cross''. Recent Doom ports had the same issue, changing the design of their medkits too.
If it's cheaper on sale, I'll pick it up JUST for Episode V. I've been doing a casual playthrough of the Megaton Edition on my channel (will wait until summer to do Duke Caribbean though), so I might as well round out the lot.

I believe the red crosses on the medkits had to be switched out because of copyright issue with the Red Cross. Newer releases of the original DooM, like the Xbox Arcade version, also had pills on their medkits as well instead of the red crosses.
The ending is the best. Duke finds dead Serious Sam from Serious Sam games developed by Croteam. Duke return remarks to Sam with: Why so Serious Sam, because Sam sad to Duke: Dude, you've been hanging here, like, FOREVER.

Legacy duke talk does work. You have to keep duke talk and legacy duke talk on at the same time, (Weird right?). Just to make sure I printed up all the lines off the DN3D wiki page and painstakingly went through the game and made sure all 80+ lines worked correctly. And all of them do! On a side note if you just select Legacy duke talk, only a handful of the original lines will play and the new duke talk will fill in for the missing lines. Hope this helps anyone who may have given up on world tour.

Honestly, i'm a bit salty considering that I bought the broken ass Megaton Edition only for it to be removed from stores and go without patches, and now this is out with LESS content and costs $20. they should at least give a discount to owners of Megaton Edition. i'm not gonna spend another $20 on a game I've already purchased about 5 times, even with a new episode. Am I cheap ass? Absolutely.

EDuke32 is much better with software, polymost, and polymer renderers. More graphical settings, you can turn v-sync off, and there's no forced mouse acceleration
