  • Murano mid-sized SUV featuring bold new styling, interior refinements and a lower starting price. Sold in front wheel drive and all wheel drive. The AWD mid-sized crossover utility vehicle has room for 5-passengers and comes with a V6 engine. The Murano even competes with some premium utility vehicles.With a 3.5L V6 engine and a CVT, the ride is upscale and so is the cabin considering this utility starts at just $31,000.

    My wife Dawn and I just bought the Murano SL. AWD in gun metal. Detailed her with ceramic sealer. Super shine . Love her ! Update : this 2020/ was totaled in a head on crash Sept. 2021 . I ordered a 2022 Platinum , but with the supply chain issues , we took delivery of a SL AWD in Magnetic Black Pearl with Graphite interior with moonroof package . Love her . This is our first ever vehicle with a moonroof package ! We also had her undercoated which also enhances the quietness of the interior . Perfect size for us ! Our 2020 , with all of the air bags that were deployed , saved us from even more severe injuries than what we did get . No brainer going back to a Murano !

    I test drove a lot of vehicles, including a couple of luxury ones. Nissan Murano simply stood out a winner. Great comfort, very composed and quiet ride, surprisingly good handling for its size; overall a premium vehicle with a Nissan logo and hence very reasonable price. The look is very stylish from certain angles, especially from side and rear. Only complain is the front doesn't look too good.

    Not sure why people don't cross-shop the murano and the CR-V. The are both are 5-passenger and ct driven. But the crv is frumpy by comparison. It also doesn't have murano's: panorwmic roof, cooled seats and the 260hpv6 outperforms the crv's turbo. The bigger murano is faster, more premium and has a surround view cam, 20" rims and bose sound with a radar that sees 2 cars ahead. None of which the CRv has at any price. Murano wins! It only loses to the CRvin mpg; but you gain80hp over the crv and a somewhat sportier ride. Not to mention stunning looks, exceptional comfort dndplenty of space.

    An excellent review and I couldn't agree more with " Tian Cai " below. If a new vehicle is in your future get out there and start test driving ,,, do your homework. We bought a fully loaded Murano SL eight months ago, in my opinion of all the vehicles I've owned over the years this one is a real stand out. Five stars for comfort and I've never really noticed the CVT, this vehicle is as smooth as they come. I'm a big Pavarotti fan and playing his music on the Bose premium sound system is wonderful. I'm quite impressed with the built in safety features, well done Nissan. I checked out the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V ,,, nice but not even close to the Murano when it comes to " bang for your buck ". I'm delighted with the performance of the 3.5L engine nice to have that juice under the hood when you need it. Highway driving plain and simple ,, smooth and comfortable, so test drive other makes like I did ,, Infinity and Lexus ,, way overpriced and expensive service. Toyota and Honda ,,, Toyota RAV4 ,, $ 2988.70 priced higher than the Murano ,,, Honda CR-V $ 3265.00 higher than the Murano.Both of these vehicles were nicely equipped but way behind in what they offered and on top of that both of those vehicles have four cylinder engines. A very nice vehicle indeed, good job Nissan ,,, two thumbs up !!

    We had a first year 03' SE AWD Murano. It was quite high tech for it's time. However, we started feeling the "cheap" underpinnings after 10K miles. The suspension bottomed out and brake rotors warped. We sold it at 66K, after warranty expired, as folks started experiencing CVT failure'. We STILL look at nice first generation versions, and love THAT style. Thanks.

    Great review. As a new owner of a 2018 Murano SL, I have to agree. Surprising bang for the buck compared to Jeep, Acura, Lexus. Agree about the CVT but that probably helps the fuel economy. I normally like to have a some oomph under the hood, but I don't think it's too lacking there, slightly less than my last vehicle (CTS 3.6). Can't say I noticed the lack of resolution on the cameras, but also have nothing to compare it to, as I haven't had that feature on previous vehicles. Glad they stayed with the V6 I was surprised when the Acura salesman said everyone's going to turbo 4cyl.

      Steve Mason yes the backup camera resolution is absolutely horrific compared to other vehicles. Looks like it borrowed 80s tv parts for the build. i am constantly reminded of it every time i use it. Unacceptable in a 40k plus vehicle. the car has been amazing otherwise

The 2005 avg. 25.5 on the highway. The new one on the highway gets an average of 31.mpg which is outstanding as it was rated 28 mpg from the factory. It appears to have the same engine size and cvt so I don't know why the difference in gas mileage. I think Nissan pays the price for being an industry leader in cvt technology. Their first few generations did suffer some reliability issues. But, they have markedly improved in that area, both drive feel and reliability. But, the reputation of the older designs have carried forward, which is unfortunate. Now look around the industry and many are jumping onto the cvt bandwagon for the efficiency they give, now that nissan have led the way.

    • @mrubuntuking5257
      @mrubuntuking5257 5 лет назад +2

      That's the baffling thing about Nissan, they went to all of the money and effort to develop a new 2nd gen CVT that will last to 200k miles, then left the old garbage one in their most popular, affordable models to drag down their reputation. The Altima, Sentra/Versa, Rogue, and Pathfinder still have the same piece of garbage that was blowing up in 2007. This is despite most of them having been completely redesigned since then. Their niche models that aren't really advertised/marketed, are priced high, and don't sell in huge numbers, like the Murano, Maxima, Quest, and Armada, are the ones that got the new improved CVTs. It's more reliable, lasts longer, and is even cheaper to make, yet they don't put it in the cars that introduce most people to the brand.

      @@mrubuntuking5257 I thought the newer rogue was using their 2nd gen cvt?

    • @mrubuntuking5257
      @mrubuntuking5257 5 лет назад

      It depends on the model and refresh level, the Rogue Sport is better than the Rogue, and the 2013-2016/7 Rogues are the ones of the latest gen to avoid. A lot of it is down to management software programming too, the biggest problem with the 1st gen was that every car that had it was programmed to jerk it around way too hard to do a poor job of simulating a regular automatic, or to maximize fuel efficiency at every engine speed at the expense of longevity. Cars with the 2nd gen CVT sometimes also simulate gear changes, but they do it by messing with the ride quality, interrupting the fake engine sound, and easing off the throttle a bit, not by violently slowing down and speeding up the CVT belt. I'd imagine that a car with the 2nd gen CVT that simulated gear changes the old way would, while still better than the 1st gen, have well below average longevity. The Gen4 Quest actually got a TCM software update in 2013, including ones that had already been sold if they were taken into the dealer, to address this. I don't know if that's the case with the newest Rogue or not.

    The interior, space and ride/handling are great in the Murano. I can't, however, get over the CVT transmission. Just put a 6 or 7 speed auto in there and all will be well. We have a 2009 Nissan Sentra and the CVT sucks. It hasn't given problems but the characteristics of it is just weird. Only benefit is that it revs nice and low at highway speeds which means good fuel economy.

    Hey Zack!
    I'm looking for an SUV with AWD primarily for commuting from a small town just outside of Calgary into the city for work each day, then driving around on the weekend with family (errands, family functions, road trips). I am a 28 year old professional, but since I'm doing a lot of four lane highway commuting I really value comfort and fuel economy over sportiness, even though I would prefer a good-old V6 over a turbo four and CVTs don't bother me. Do you think a used (2015 or 16) Murano would be a good alternative to a new Rogue (or RAV4, Equinox, CR-V etc)? Are there any reliability issues to consider? I have heard earlier Muranos (and other Nissans) have had CVT transmission issues with premature failures and such. Any insight you'd have would be wonderful! Thanks so much :)

    I'm in my second year of ownership with the Murano. It has a lovely double personality where it's uber comfortable for the price, but the engine also has plenty of power when you push it (again, for the price). Nissan has done a great job masking the annoying aspects of the CVT, and retain the responsiveness. The fact that you don't feel any real gear changes (but hear simulated ones) actually adds to the refinement quite a bit. What the car lacks for me is a sport mode, or even a sport trim like the Ford Edge. Oh and the towing capacity is a joke.

    Starting price is quite misleading (probably intentionally by Nissan). The base is FWD only, and to get AWD price suddenly jumps to $40k.

    Hi, should I wait for the 2019 model? Should I go ahead and get 2018? I see some 2018 Murano close by, midnight and platinum and I have always loved the Murano. I just don't want to get the 2018 and feel guilty when I see 2019. If the design (ext/int) and the handling (engine performance) are generally the same, I think I want to get the 2018 platinum for great discount via the year-end deal.

    I own a 2015 Murano, first year the new style, no different from the 2018. I agree with everything he says, with the main exception about the pickup. My previous car was a 2009 BMW 328 XI and in my opinion the Murano has much more pickup. Every time I drive it I'm quite amazed with the acceleration. The handling isn't as good, obviously, but the V6 in it has so much pickup. He gives the idea that it's a car for retired folks, Totally disagree. I've passed many cars on the highway which have much more hp than this car. I love it!

    Another thing, all the automakers are going to bigger and bigger wheel sizes. People who want more luxury and a smoother ride but yet want the "LOADED" package with all the bells and whistles get stuck with 20" inch wheels and a harsher ride. I don't know why it seems like everything is "sport" and "performance" geared. I have a 99 Lexus LX470 (land cruiser) and it's slow, smooth riding, will last forever. Where are these cars anymore? Everything has to be aggressive and angry looking. There has to be a cut off point. Wheels are getting larger, The stupid truck segment is just insane. At some point the trucks will no longer fit inside the lanes. Ever have a Ford F250 Super Duty with the side mirrors that stick out like wings on 747 fly past you on the highway? Those mirrors come awful close to contact. It's like every year, horsepower is up (speed limit hasn't changed) more air bags (nothing helps like good ol seatbelts) overall size is bigger (we are getting fatter), more infotainment stuff (more reasons to be a distracted driver) wheels are larger (tires cost more to replace) MPGs are up (they jack with the transmission programming to drive us all insane) overall MSRP is way up (no one can afford so they either lease, or stay upside down on the loan, never actually getting ahead)

      Different class of vehicle. This is more powerful and spacious. Cx5 handles a tad better and is more efficient but lacks the comfort and power of murano.

      @iKaviD3 6 лет назад +5

      My family and I were actually considering the CX9 and then fell in love with the Murano (still a bit salty we didn't get the CX9, as it's also a beautiful SUV). But the Murano has a much more luxury build than the Mazdas, the panoramic roof is killer. The seats are superior. CX9 interior was also quite luxurious, but the Murano was a bit better and had a slightly better price for our family. So we bought the Murano Platinum (fully loaded) over the CX9 GT
