    Hot Chocolate Mix
1.5 cups of Good Cocoa Powder
1.5 cups of Icing sugar/powdered sugar or granulated sugar
2 cups of Whole Milk Powder
Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container
To make up, add a couple of teaspoons of the mix to a mug. Add more if the mug
is large. You can add more sugar to taste. Boil a jug, fill with boiling water, and add
milk if you want an extra milky drink.
    Nacho/Taco Mix
    5 Tbsp. of Paprika
    2 Tbsp. of Garlic Powder
    1/4 Cup Dehydrated Onion Powder
    2 Tbsp. Ground Coriander
    2 Tbsp. Coriander Flakes

Mix together until combined. If you have no dehydrated onion flakes, just use onion powder
Store in an air-tight jar or container.

You are an absolute GEM. I may not comment on your video's, but I do watch everything that you upload. Don't listen to haters, what they hate is that they are not as, genuine, versatile, clever, beautiful natured, REAL, kind and caring like you are. To me you are beautiful inside and out Sister. Good luck with your surgery and I hope it gives you relief when you recover. God watches very closely over wonderful people like you. I am also proud to say that I do use your methods, I make many of what you upload and especially spice mixes and shelf stable items. You have saved me a small fortune and I love everything you do on your channel. Thank you Stacy for all the effort you put in.

So Stacey, with much gratitude and appreciation for you ... today I cooked 4 beef mince based lots of meals - 20 serves, plus a baking dish of baked oatmeal breakfasts - 5 serves. Tomorrow, I will cook 4 chicken based meals, another 20 serves, plus pressure cook the veggie scraps, bones and carcass, then puree it for our dog, my daughters dog and my sons dog.
Thank you for the inspiration and helping me return to my 'can do' attitude, all the meals are for my youngest son who runs his own gym, secretly it's because it helps my sad but getting happier empty nester heart feel better.
Big but gentle hugs for your op tomorrow (I'm sure you said the 18th May somewhere), take really, really good care, sending ginormous healing vibes from Brissy, Australia 😊

As an English person I can assure you that the first time I even saw an "English muffin" was about ten years ago. They're an American conceit and I'm blaming McDonald's.

      AI Overview

The English muffin is an American breakfast staple that originated in the 1800s. Samuel Bath Thomas, a British man who emigrated to New York City in 1874, is credited with inventing the English muffin. Thomas called his invention the "toaster crumpet" and began making thinner, pre-cut crumpets in a bakery. The first English muffins were sold in 1880, and the term "English muffin" was coined in 1894.

Who Invented the English Muffin? - Taste Cooking
Samuel Bath Thomas, an Englishman who migrated to the United States, sold the first Thomas' English muffin in 1880. But while he's often credited as the inventor of all things nook-and-cranny, American newspapers were using the term “English muffin” decades earlier to distinguish the breads from American-style muffins baked in ovens. The English muffin, a yeasted bread cooked on a flattop, is one of several kinds of griddle cakes: bread dough or cake batter cooked directly on a griddle, sometimes in ring molds to preserve their round appearance.

Lots of recipes floated across the ponds, way back when and were modified depending on what was available. Making crumpets, "English muffins", flat breads and etc are fun projects for me. Recipes are not copywrited because they are always evolving. The books are.

I always doubled the sauce mixture when making chocolate pudding as the original recipe from the recipe book which was probably the Country Women's Association book which started in the late 1800s I think. My grandmother's edition from the early part of the last century was made like a calendar & you hung it up on a nail & each day of the year had a desert to follow. My sauce mixture was just a cup brown sugar & 2 heaped tablespoons of cocoa powder, plus a cup of boiling water, however I doubled the hot water. No mention of cornflour in the recipe. The cornflour would allow you to add more water & made it more like a gravy type sauce. Those days are past now as I am gluten intolerant!! Maybe it was all the flour I ate for the first 55 years of my life... Who Knows! 😂

    • @FarmersWifeHomestead
      @FarmersWifeHomestead  2 месяца назад +1

Yes, I am so pleased you mentioned the corn flour. When I was making it I thought to myself the recipe never used that before. Thank you for the memories you shared.

I'm from California and self-saucing pudding is new to me. It looks wonderful. I can hardly wait to see the caramel version.
Regarding your dislike of hot milky drinks, several years ago I started making what I think of as grown-up hot cocoa. One teaspoon top quality dutched cocoa powder and 2 teaspoons sugar in a mug, add 8 fluid ounces (237 ml) boiling water and whisk like crazy. I usually use an electric mini milk frother. Then if you like, float marshmallows or whipped cream on top.
I have my extra special private stash of Van Houten cocoa powder which I reserve for this. It's very soluble. I don't know if you' have to simmer it if you used a different cocoa.
Anyway, no milk. I thought to try it that way the first time to see why the Aztecs liked it in its original form. It was too bitter for me without sugar, but I liked the lighter, less rich and creamy version, even though I love all things dairy (I never met a butterfat I didn't like! 😁). Maybe you'd like hot cocoa without milk.
BTW, my only experience of New Zealand was an accidental weekend stopover in Auckland because of a visa problem. One of the things which impressed me most, besides how nice the people were, was the quality of the dairy products. Best milk I ever had!

Sorry if im repeating what others have said - i just stopped real quick to comment before watching the rest of the vid.
Anyway, i have a scanned pdf of a 1913 version, which is pretty fab. Let me know if you would like a copy, and ill email it to you :)

I never even thought about a make ahead mix for self saucing choc pudding! I have a microwave recipe that our family uses. Might adapt that to make ahead. Thank you for the idea!
Just wanted to let you know too... today will be the third time my son (14) makes your 6 cup pizza dough, with which he will make himself 8 pizzas for his brunch for the coming week. It's saving me heaps 😁 (actually, this week costs about the same as buying the cheapest pizzas from the supermarket, but that's because he is doing pizza bolognese! Pizza base, meat sauce (with grated veg added), sprinkle of cheese, and job done. What a life!

Thanks for the recipes etc. our paknsave has decided not to stock any nacho mix so that will be very handy. The hot choc mix is the same recipe I’ve been making for some time and is loved by all topping off the drink with a marshmallow or 3😁. Have a great day. xx

Not a cheap thing but I use to add vanilla bean pots that have had the seeds scraped out (Maybe leave a few) and let it sit in sugar in a jar or air tight container shaking it every so often and it made a really nice vanilla sugar that would be good in the hot chocolate even if you just put the pod it that jar of your mix

My mom used to make a Carmel sause Pudding we always called it short cut Pudding because it was so easy. Start with brown sugar in the bottom of a casserole dish add hot water and stir to melt then top with a biscuit dough that has Raisins or Currents in it. It makes a thickened Carmel on the bottom.

@@FarmersWifeHomestead it is and very inexpensive and quick. We always added more butter to the basic biscuit dough ( 2 c flour recipe)and about 1-2 tbsp white sugar the dough too then a it extra milk to a drop biscuit consistency.

I've got a microwave version of it too, just as good and super quick. I have a caramel coconut self saucing recipe which is so good, microwave or oven. Now I feel like making them....

Soft icing sugar will have cornflour in it ( that’s why it doesn’t set rock hard ) , Pure icing will not and will go hard . I add 1/2 cup of coffee creamer and 3 Tablespoons of arrowroot powder to my hot cocoa mix .

      Base 1 c SR flour
      3/4 c sugar
1 tsp salt - I normally forget to put this in
      2 oz melted butter
1/2 c milk - combine all in a bowl then pour into oven safe dish ,
      Sauce
      2 Tbsp golden syrup
      1 1/2 c hot water
1 oz butter , mix in a jug and just pour over the top of your mixture , bake on 180 for about 25-30 minutes
Can change to chocolate , use base and add 1 Tbsp cocoa
      Sauce 2 Tbsp sugar
      1 Tbsp cocoa
      2 c hot water
      Lemon S/S pudding
      Same base
      Sauce 2 Tbsp honey
      1 c hot water 30 g butter
      1 Tbsp brown sugar
      1/2 c lemon juice

Me again, 😅 there is NO egg in ANY of the self saucing puddings we make- NOW I'm extra curious about the recipes! Also chocolate pudding ( the one we make anyway ) which is very similar to this is so forgiving I've had to substitute certain sugars and flours before and its still always delicious EVEN if you know its not how it should be. My mum growing up and also I growing up this was a legit dinner some nights, totally giving me flashbacks ❤

Great video. Thanks for sharing. How do you manage to keep your garlic powder from caking up ? Live in southern hemisphere too! Only buy a small bottle at a time.....in no time it becomes solid. Have also tried putting a 'silica' bag into the bottle, doesn't work.
