See you next time! Авто/Мото
And if you werent stubborn you might have done it like many others, glued that bastard to the bootlid.
🤣 Mate let me tell you i was considering it at one point. Happy its all sorted now though
I had a Cooper S 1275 . Mine was 9FSAY 38717. I used to solo race it and was pretty successful. Mine was red with the black roof. 1966 and I bought it from the original owner in 1969. I drove it loaded with my toolbox and everything I could fit in across the United states. I sold it in Los Angeles and bought a 1967 mk2. I love seeing yours. Brings back a flood of memories.
Tartan red is a great colour! What are the mk2s like in comparison?
The 67 mk2 I had was one of the last original cars brought into the US. It was not very different except for the square tail lamps and the angular trim surrounding the front grille. I never felt that same bond with any other car that I had with my 66 car.
Must be the best restoration I’ve ever seen the colour combo is fantastic keep the videos coming
Thanks mate! Be plenty more to come on it mate dont worry!
Good to see the commitment and dedication. You are a true inspiration mate. The car is absolutely stunning. Be seeing you 👍🏻
Thanks mate! Appreciate it
Hi Alex, the back of the S is so immaculate it’s already better than anything that originally came out of the factory! (In fact I would go as far as to say “if Lexus built classic minis, this would be it” ha ha!) - Hope to see it at a show next year. Stay safe and well buddy. 👍🇬🇧
Definitely be at the shows next year mate! Missed them so much this year
I worked at Longbridge Rover and reintroduced the Cooper as the RSP to see if it work take off again, and it sure did. I’m restoring a 1275 gt at present. Enjoying your videos.
1275gt is a great car! Good luck with the restoration mate
Hi Alex , I’m playing catch up again your Cooper S is stunning and your attention to detail is what we’ve all come to expect, the boot lid handle upside down was a classic I’m sure most of the rest of us have done similar in the past and you just look at it and think how did that happen😂😂
Be Seeing You😎
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍🏴
Thanks Dave! Yeah when i realised the handle was wrong i couldn't believe it 😂
Alex, I think that's probably the best example of a Cooper S I've seen to date. Many years ago (I'm quite old now) I had a Mk 1 970 S (very rare) and then a Mk 2 1275 S, both in Tartan Red & Black. I've now got an R56 JCW with the better N18 engine. Deffo approve of your plan to get it back to standard although I never liked the standard steering wheel and always used the fitting to lower the steering column. I tried 1.5" SU's on the 1275 but preferred it on 1.25"'s with the original Coopers air cleaner box. A lovely example....don't drive it in the rain !
Thanks mate! Shes certainly a very good example, certainly will be when i am finished as all the important bits are present! 970s is very very rare!
@@classicminidetails8887 Yes, I sold it in 1972 when it became clear that the engine needed a complete rebuild. My (then) girlfriend, later my wife, was desperate for me to keep it....she still goes on about it today !
Good excuse to get another 🤣
Beautiful Mini. Good job. Thanks
Thanks Doug
Looks absolutely spot on. Excellent work and dedication especially with the driving for clips !
Thanks Paul! I am to impatient to wait for them to be posted 🤣
I’m thoroughly enjoying this build! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks Gareth, glad your enjoying them mate
Hi Alex,
Great S, been waiting for someone to mention the badge grommets and they didn't, so :
The little plastic grommets fit into the hole in the boot lid first ( bit like a wall plug ) then you press the badge in which makes a nice water tight fit. That's why you couldn't get the old ones off when pulling from the inside, when the badge was still pressed into the grommet. Fitted hundreds - ex Austin Rover mechanic! Otherwise every time you wash the car water will dribble in and down into the boot seam, apart from the fact just being pushed on from inside your likely to knock them off and end up losing a badge. Hope this helps, nice to see such a beautiful collection of Minis, miss mine had Minis from the 70's until I finished rallying in 2005 and sold them one by one, now retired and wish I'd kept the last S I built, especially after seeing yours! Regards Steve.
Steve thank you for that! I will revisit them and do exactly that! Sounds like you had a great time with the cars. Everyone i speak to who has had a cooper S has regrets about selling them! Never say never on getting another!
@@classicminidetails8887 : My Garage - which I could get 3 Minis in - one half is now partitioned off and is a gym, the other half, workshop and home to a Kawasaki motorcycle. Mini days over but still like to see them after 40+ years of ownership they do get under your skin!
Great minis, particularly the Mini van which was my first motor back in 1972.
Good to see you sporting a Tudor Black Bay too.
Keep up the good work.
The good old mini van! I absolutely love the vans mate such a cool varient!
Another great video good to see you went with a new Heritage boot lid and not fillered up the old one. 👍 cars looking 100% 😍
Thanks mate!
I just discovered your channel - love it! Your garage space is fantastic - super clean and organized.
Thanks Michael, welcome hope you enjoy the content
The painter has done a beautiful job matching the new boot lid. I so love the look of your mini’s.
Thanks mate he's certainly well worth the money
Those boot seal clips are truly a pita, I found it easier with the lid on the car, at least it wasn't at risk of scratches..... that said, it was at risk of me getting well and truly Pee'd off and twatting it with a large hammer........ well done for not giving up......
I did consider doing it on the car mate but i thought the bottom bit may be tricky to reach in and do. All done now scratch free which is good
Alex . Those clips are a 'mare ! It looks ace . Alex you may be stubborn but you're like me , it has to be spot on , anything less will not do . Good stuff. And that colour is perfect . I did say it would be ! This is really looking top drawer , well done !
Yeah needs to be right! It would only end up getting changed in the future if i bodged it by sticking it
Like the way think, 'less is more'
Less problems also.
Great job Alex
Thanks Jon! Simplicity is everything for me
Car looks so much better with the improvements👍
Thanks James, ita coming together now
Top job. Car looks mint. Great looking garage by the way...and video presentation is spot on :-)
Thanks mate!
Looking mint Alex so glad the paint match was spot on ..Lets hope we get some shows in the New year cant wait to see the S in the flesh..👍
Am really hoping for Himley in May mate absolutely love that show
Beautiful looking Mini that! Good work.
Thanks Ben appreciate it
Looks a great colour match. Made me smile with your boot handle as I did the same thing last week when I put mine back together. 🤦♂️😂
I couldn't believe it when i noticed..... I was like you idiot 🤣 glad its not just me whos done it then
Looks the dogs danglers Bud , beautiful job well done and the paint matches perfectly 👍
Thanks mate! I am very happy with the match
Great update Alex, I would have lost my rag within half an hour lol, in fact I did with mine, that's why my mini has no boot seal 🤣
If the boot lid hadn't cost me a small fortune i would have lobbed it out the door 🤣
Nice job mate...Thanks👍👍👍
Thanks mate
Lovely cars and garage
Thanks Nate
I had this type of boot seal on my Clubman years ago and I remember water used to get into the boot when the boot was opened. I'm sure that's why they went to the seal on the boot surround. Car looks superb none the less!
Yeah they are probably not the best seal compared to the later ones. My cars dont usually see rain so am not to fussed. I will be testing it in a future video to see if its working
Looking fab!
Thanks Chris
great work - patience rewarded !
Thanks Peter i certainly was happy when it was finished
This guy has a serious ability.
Certainly a great painter
It looks mint now. Last time I tuned in you had the numbers on the car. It looks much better plain.
Thanks Alex, i prefer it much more now without the numbers
looks good great job on the colour match in the paint
yea those repro seals take a while to compress i have the same with my 53 FJ holden here in aus take around 6 months to settle
Wow 6 months! I am going to check it again this week and see how its doing will be a week this Wednesday since its been on the car
Another excellent video, thank you :)
Thankyou! Thanks for watching!
Great work on the bootlid! Definitely agree with the less is more comment
Thanks David
boot lid look FAB bro
Thanks Stu
Looking much better without the lamp nice and clean 👍
Sure does mate!
Love your cars. Don't say stubborn think of it as determined, motivated, driven and goal orientated
Thanks Vince, certainly determined to get things as they should even if it takes me all day 🤣
Awesome Alex, great video.
Thanks for the mention. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any help with paintwork in the future.
Take care mate.
Carl
Thanks Carl appreciate it mate
Another excellent post Alex, ĺove your determination and attention to detail it's what makes a good job great!👍. Check the vid, I don't know if you were aware, when you closed the boot, the rhs boot tie twisted upwards and looked to get trapped between the seal and the bodywork which might have caused the tightness when you tried to turn the boot handle??. Superb match by the way 👌👏. Stay safe look forward to the next post. ❤ and ✌
Hi mate, i need to replace those boot cables mate as they aint the best unfortunately! Thanks for watching
Nice work! My '88 mini has the later style boot seal which goes on the rear panel surround instead of the lid. Much easier to install.
Would like to see how you mount the millboard on the lid. I have a kit for my car but have not fit it yet. Didn't like the thought of drilling holes around the lid to fit the board, unsure of how it will look and if it's worth the effort.
Can certainly cover the mill board in great detail mate as its done in a certain way
Looking good mate 👍
Cheers Keef 👌
Nice work, what a great looking car (makes me even more excited for my own '65 to arrive in a few weeks time!). It'll be great to see it in person at shows once this COVID nonsense goes away.
A cooper S mate? I bet your well excited! Is it coming from the US?
@@classicminidetails8887 It's a bit of a recreation of an S, originally an 850 but now with a 1300gt engine, S close ratio 4 synchro remote gearbox, S brakes, genuine LP883 wheels etc. So not quite the genuine article but as close as I'll get on a budget! It's actually coming all the way from New Zealand where I used to live and owned the car for years :)
Hi Alex,
Looking smart! Don't forgot some Waxoyl or similar cavity wax in back of the lid!!
Br
Andrew
Certainly on the job list mate!
That’s very stubborn but what a great job 👍
Absolutely horrible job! At least its right now
Looks lovely
Thanks Paul
I used a hammers & pushed the clips with the end of the shaft. Only broke 1! However, I am really jealous, you boot fits & closes so much better than mine! Mini sport said they are stiff but, here I am 6 months later & it is still hard work to close.
Thats good going mate as those things are very difficult. I have heard mini sport seals are very hard in general
You had me worried there Alex when you said that you will tap them in with the hammer and a Lump hammer appeared I am glad the seal went on eventually I am likewise with clips I always get extras as I know they will disintegrate top tip is to put them in warm water prior to fitting them the water makes the more flexible
🤣 The misses has borrowed my claw hammer and as usual it hasn't come back along with various other screwdrivers 🧐
C est une beauté cette mini...good job👌
Thanks mate
Hi Alex, the 'S is looking superb! Absolutely fabulous job on the boot, I agree it looks clean and simple, and the fit is spot on! Take my hat off to you for your patience and determination in fitting the seal, but with everything you've done...doing it properly is paying dividends. Just one burning question...as you've been putting the 'S, back to a standard, what about the wheels? Coz those rose petals do look gorgeous! Great stuff 😊
Thanks mate, with the wheel am really unsure at the moment. I absolutely love the Rose petals but part of me wants to put the original wheels back on. I will probably get them refurbished and see what they look like as I don’t think I will be a fan of OEW wheels on a OEW car
Dream Minis in a really nice garage...... excellent. I am sure the Cooper S will get steel wheels at some point..... I would.
Thanks Keith, probably be next year before i try the steels on. Not sure how they will look with the car being OEW
Hope to see it at Brighton next year👍
I will definitely be there mate if its on just need to decide what mini to take
I’ve always thought the mini Cooper in white is the best. My mini is white with a white roof tho and I’m restoring it.
Thanks Paul! I love a white mini!
Attention to detail
Thanks mate
Been there done it plenty of times 😳
Paint build up that’s all it is
Still fair play for dedication
Paint on Cooper Boot lid looks great, the car really starting to come together. Keep up the good work and the great videos . David
Thanks Dave glad your enjoying them
Looks nice and clean now you could warm the seel with a hot air gun
Yeah have considered that mate if it doesn't settle down abit
You should ask the future Mrs Simpson about the headlining, she did and awesome job on the Clubman. Mind saying that though, I doubt Liz would travel that distance for clips 😁
When i get something in my head i cant rest 🤣 3 hour round trip for those suckers 😂
@@classicminidetails8887 I know the trip well mate, I've done the same from Darlington to Manchester a few times, at least it was for Chesterfield sofas though lol
Those seals are a pain to get right. Mine took months to soften and allow the boot to fit flush
Yeah your not kidding, its settled down now mate
You can use a upholstery tool to make life easier
I used it when I did mine
Thanks mate i may get one for tool box
You have a lot of paciense
Sure do mate! Doing youtube helps alot with my motivation too
Surely minisport Burnley, minispares Huddersfield or moss Bradford be closer?? Looking good though.
Yeah they are closer i just prefer minispares mate
I'd rather fly to the USA and buy from Seven Minis, than use minisport.
@@Dagowly83 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Paint looks a perfect match, it looks like whole car was done same time! Out of interest, where did the paint come from as I need to source some to do some interior bits (as it wasn't originally Old English White). Interesting that you put the seal on the bootlid. On mine, the seal is on the car itself not the boot lid!!
The Paint was scanned and made in house at Autorefinishers in york mate 👍
@@classicminidetails8887 Ok thanks 👍
Installed the boot handle wrong way like a div hahaha
I know 🔔🔚
Is your old boot for sale I've one I'm doing up anther boots rough
Am keeping it mate as its the original boot lid to my car
I'm having it. Using it as a sled during the winter.
@@classicminidetails8887 ahh gutted would have went nice on mine
@@martinwells3082 oh I'll bin that. Useless to me.
Another job ticked of the list ,I think it looks much better without the lamp on the boot and as you say it's got to be original or it's not worth doing .
Thanks Ron am made up with the final result
Was that hammer big enough, doing those clips? 😉🤣👍
😂 Go big or go home, one day my misses might return things she borrows then i wont have to improvise with what i have left 🤣
@@classicminidetails8887 🤣👍
Hang the old boot on the wall indoors and make a spot lamp out of it
Exactly my plan mate
Would be good if the colour actually matched
Richard......lets get one thing straight. The paint is an exact match so you can keep your worthless comment to yourself. Do you really think i would have a non matching boot lid on a 50k motor? Shut up.
You are never going to be able to match the paint, looks terrible
Listen, you get your mk1 Cooper S out i might listen.....

@@Dagowly83 make sure you use a fake name bro
Another great video good to see you went with a new Heritage boot lid and not fillered up the old one. 👍 cars looking 100% 😍
Thanks Ben certainly the best option, a few people thought otherwise but am not doing it to please them 🤣
