    Stunningly lovely car.
I used to have an 1100 clubman, not a sought-after model, but I absolutely loved it. I took out the engine and gave it a full rebuild, goodness knows those days are long gone for me. But that little car was so cheerful to own, I miss it so much.
The Cooper S is every bit a classic as any E-Type and this one is a dream car.

New to your channel/site. I like your Ethos instantly.
Restoring a Factory finish surviver. Is akin to a Capital Crime. They need to remain as they came from the Factory.
Something that has already been a Project. Things upgraded, improved ect. Then it's an Open book, play with it to your Hearts content.
I have Owned about 5 or 6 Minis and I am gutted I don't still own one..!
But kids and Practical issues required a bigger and Safer car. ( But terribly Sad..!!)
Now in Australia Minis are as Rare as Dinosaur Shite. And what is out there is Ridiculously expensive..!
    But now kids have Flown.
I now own a Ford Capri Convertible XR2 Turbo. It's not a Mini but it is Front wheel Drive and kinda Rare being Factory Turbo with only 69.000 kilometers on Odometer.
    Cheers from Oz. 😎

A great car, however personally I'd always stick a Mk1, they're definitely the best. I'm glad that you intend using this one and not just keeping it as a museum/show piece. These cars were made to drive fast, in my opinion you can't beat driving an S in wet slippery conditions. I appreciate that you share a different opinion and I respect it. Good luck with the new car.

In 1969 I bought a Cooper S Mk3 in bronze yellow. After a few weeks I grew to dislike the constant vibration of the 1275cc A series engine only performing well when in high rev mode. My then, very trendy, Motorola 8 track stereo was totally compromised by the 'buzz, and the sound could only be enjoyed when cruising slowly. Having said that, I have fond memories of the car. Moving on several decades, I now own a 1997 Mini Mk7 1.3 mpi, also sold to me by Richard Williams. It has the same 1275cc engine but with much better gearing and will happily cruise at 70mph at just under 3000 rpm. This car has the performance of the Mk7 Cooper but without the b******t stripes, a bit like my old Mk3 Cooper S, no distinguishing marks on the exterior save for a little Cooper S badge on the boot and two fuel caps. I wish you the very best with your lovely car pand hope you get many years of enjoyment from it. I got to know Mick Swift from my years with Snap-On, he was a great believer in our tools and what he didn’t know about engines, you could write on the back of a stamp! You could not have bought your S from a better man than Richard who really is a 'top bloke'.

Going by the reg plate, i think my dad bought your white with black roof cooper s from new! He had it for a few years while working at the original downton racing, before heavilly modding early track racers with lengthened front end and a 1800 woolsey engine in them.
I myself had 14 minis over the years, my last being the bmw last production batch, with 1.3i engine. Was the 3rd off the ptoduction line and the first with the cooper sports pack on it.
So good on ya for keeping these cracking cars going.

Great car. One of the last cooper S's before the 1275 GT.

Our most popular Mini was the 850 cc ....Back in the 1970s there were lots of them here .Many were the Leyland version . It's yonks since I've seen even one nowadays .. Now I have Ford Falcons ... two of them , A 2001 AU Series 2 Futura and a 2008 FG XR6 with the Barra DOHC 4.0 inline 6 and 6 speed sports shift .. Hi Alex. Well , how can you not love this little beauty ! The only thing that baffles me is how on earth can someone manage to spend £40 k !😨😨 You're correct about the wheels colour and size . You'll love that roof ! And the interior door handles should be black. l think on that year the tyres would have been Aquajet but l don't think the're available . The Bloclkeys are very similar to Goodyear G 800's and would be 145 's in period .( think l suggested them to you a while back) As you say it' s hard to believe it's 52 years old ! .......but £40k !!!! One thing for certain you didn't pay that for it . I guess the Mayfair went in part ex ! So they must have given you the "S" and some dosh !😂😂 ....Your Mk 1 ...l noticed you should have a rubber gaiter between the radiatior and the painted shroud . (Not sure if you knew that ) . I have a " snap on" screw driver that l bought 40 + years ago specifically to undo the bottom hose clip. It's about 12to 15 inches long ! I don't use it , and haven't for at least 30years! It's yours if you want it . Let me know . Cheers !

I had the big valve 1275 Mk1 Cooper "S" which alas suffered cracking between the knife edge valve seats. The Mk2 with its smaller valves solved the cracking issue. For me, maxxing out the revs in third gear and dropping into fourth was bliss, a sound not replicated on any other car I have owned. At over six feet tall the car had more than ample room for me after I fitted the seat extender brackets (not much legroom for a rear seat passenger, but this was really a car for the driver, not passengers).

To fit required the additional bolt stud hole drilled as the Cooper "S" had an extra mount stud (I think eleven studs as against ten on a standard "A" series block. This all a recollection from around forty years ago. I remember having a leaking Hydrolastic cylinder on my Mini "K" (1100cc variant) and it was cheaper to fit four new Cooper "S" units than to buy the single unit for the Mini "K". When it came to inflating the system the dealer could not get the required road height. Unbeknown to me the Cooper "S" used a shorter actuating strut than the stock Mini. Downside I had to remove the four Cooper "S" units and buy the single Mini cylinder and refit all the serviceable stock units that I had removed. The worst job I can recall on the "A" series motor was replacing the cooling bypass hose between the head and the block. The new hose was always rock hard and not able to be compressed in to fit. For me it required the head to be lifted to insert the hose and then retorque the head. I recall pleasant memories of working on all my Minis but at the time the memories were maybe not so sweet.

    Great video..
    I once bought a mini for £3.25 a real one it WAS a 1984 A registration I sold it for £65 I think.
Honestly the car was in a poor state in some ways like the tyres were flat the exhaust blowing terrible.
I dropped my Cavalier off so I could pump tyres up and drive mini up to my garage I already had a spitfire in the garage and I recall the car just went in be a tad tight.
It was red with really low profile tyres wider than normal mini.. I spent time cleaning the paintwork the interior I even had a new exhaust fitted but without warranty because engine mounts were weak.
I advertised car for sale I never asked much I think £120 quid it was back in 2002.
I then went on to buy a different car Montego MG efi 2.0 British racing green with grey bottom. £150 for that one..

On reflection just a few months back saw a very similar mini on market place for £1400 so although I made a few quid profit I could have possibly made much more.
Cannot believe 18 years on and i could have made far more..at the time I was selling my home I grew up in due to health n work but had a couple of triumphs at the property which i had taken to an Austin dealer and never went back for them.
If I am honest I bought the Triumph 2.5 TC back in 1994 for £460 quid and the spitfire 1500 cc tc for £500 in 2001 there about.
And as I ended up in Hospital with burst Appendix I had a Daimler VDP 1978 I paid just £450 for that working hard as a private hire driver and my mum allowed me to have it towed to the garage and said it was temporary but because it had a little rust on it actually made me scrap it and sadly the guy doing the deal paid me £80 he had such a bargain. I had tears in my eyes..
      Mum's hey..

That's a stunner! One of the best colours too! Did the 1970 Cooper S come with the alternator from factory, or is that an upgrade ? Also I like the remote brake servo - was that originally standard on the Cooper S in 1970 or an option ? Does it have a remote change or the later rod change ? Pretty sure the inside door handles should be black.
