    On my Minis it also have the wood dashboard. I prefer whitout it, but the rest was on a bad shape. So i keep it... Nice job!

    Alex, do not forget to put the oval sealing gasket for each door retaining braket (later foam type works better). Otherwise will leak tons of water under the dashself and onto floorpan. Most forgotten seal in Minis

    Yes, wise choice on the Steering wheel swap. The original is so much better looking than the aftermarket one. I never noticed the strip across the top of the dash, so leaving it on is a good choice too. If You ever want to make it even less noticeable, You could paint the screws black to match the vinyl. glad to see the MK 1 back. Please take us for a drive in it!! Can't wait for the next video. Cheers from The US.

    Hi Alex. Exciting times ! I bet you're chomping at the bit to get in the "S" and give her a good airing ! It always amazes me how just basic petrol caps suddenly become valuable . So how much are they worth ? ......."Don't tell him Pike !" And it 's the same with the steering wheel and gear knob ...unbelievable ! I had about 5 sets of Riley Elf , Mini Cooper stainless mouldings . I had a clear out and gave them all to Paul Tupman about 10 years ago ! 😨😨😨😨Thanks Alex.

    Must admit I'm more tempted now to swap my 14" -Lita back to the old factory bus wheel in my Mk1, it does look good in your cars, and it's actually really nice for motorway cruising - being so wide you can comfortably rest your arm out the window and hold it nice and steady, and it basically acts like a flywheel, it's nice and smooth!

    Hi Alex, I enjoy how you get really excited about fairly mundane stuff and it’s really good (in my opinion) that you’re getting your my 3 closer to original. I guess that you probably know Simon Wheatcroft who is just a mind of information on originality and always happy to advise. Please change the interior door handles back to standard black plastic ones as yours look to be chrome? I have a 1971 “S” with a Motolita wheel and after watching this, I am tempted to put a standard one back on as I have one hanging up in the garage that I bought a few years back. Take care and keep up with the great videos.

    I bought a proper steering wheel for my Mk3 Mini 850 and It's so much nicer than the little go cart one I initially had. Also swapped my gearknob for a proper one. I leave the bolt for the steering wheel hand tight so my party trick is to remove it when I park up somewhere dodgy lol :D

    • @classicminidetails8887
      @classicminidetails8887  3 года назад

      Good idea about the steering wheel! They are probably fine finger tight as the splines hold the wheel on tight

  • @hlund73
    @hlund73 3 года назад +1

    The big hole in the dash rail may well have been where a rev counter was fitted.
    To think how keen we all were to get rid of those bus steering wheels back in the day 😂. They make the steering quite a bit lighter and are great for hanging on to when throwing it through the corners.

    Good stuff Alex, standard steering wheel is just to big, in my day in 1970s when we ran Cooper and Cooper s almost first thing was remove standard steering wheel and replaced with Moto-Lita which cost £20 with boss.
    Next was a bracket to lower steering column down towards driver, clamps on steering rack were loosened to allow rack to turn.
    I remember bracket was made by SPQR.

    • @classicminidetails8887
      @classicminidetails8887  3 года назад

      Yeah the big wheel isn't to everyone's taste, I personally did it for the looks and driveability. Makes getting in more difficult being bigger

    • @stuartclague3914

      Don’t forget the brackets to tilt and move the driver’s seat back - also SPQR😀. Also slip on seat covers with side bolsters……

    Hi Alex great job on all the cars. I’m just considering a Mk3 Copper S and just wanted to ask how it compares to your Mk1 Copper S.
    I currently own a 1978 1275GT but the MK3 Copper S I’ve wanted ever since the first car I owned back in 1977.

    Definitely a good shout not to replace the dash rail cover Toony- it should have the date of the car’s production stamped on the back in red. Essential in my opinion for originality- reads ‘11 Nov 1970’ for my mk3.
