Thanks Alex
Lovely car. Loved spending hours on my Cooper S in the late seventies....
They are such beautiful cars
the mirror and the wipers look good bro!
Great Video Alex, love the work you are doing with the mini's and videos. I've had a two mini's in the past but been mini-less for about 7 years now. Getting a mini in 2021 it definitely one of my goals. Stay safe and have good 2021!
Thanks Daniel! Well i hope a mini makes an appearance for you next year mate 👍
Nice one Alex! Here’s to a better year next year and of cause yes another mini 💪😁
All the best mate! Have a great new year
Nice one Alex ,cant wait for the video that says I've done it fully restored to its original. Your attention to detail is second to none, I hope when I start my mk1 restoration I can be as good as yourself. Happy new year mate. Ron.
Thanks Ron! Good luck with yours if you need anything just ask!
Hi Alex, another great video of one of the most highly prized cars in the world! (I share your enthusiasm!) best wishes for a really successful and rewarding 2021 buddy and thanks for all your hard work 😊👍
Thanks Phil! All the best next year mate 👍
Love this car mate. Been at university in my second year through Covid, feels like I may as well just stay at home and work on my restoration. Doing a 91 Mini Neon, first car at 19 and only had it a few months, already taking shape, your videos make me want to get a camera out while i do it.
stay safe all, and good luck to all others doing their Mini projects in tier 4
Definitely get the camera out mate
Thanks for the videos In 2020 Alex, keep up the good work. 👍
Your welcome mate thanks for watching them
Hi Alex. Regarding the wipers l think the "wrong " ones are probably more effective but they have to be period correct. The reason the "wrong" mirror fetches good money is because the're standard fitment on Jaguars of that era , particularly "e"types ! Glad you took your time on that mill board , patience is the virtue! Well thanks for sharing the up's and down's of having proper mini's. Have a great year and lets hope life gets back to some form of normality. Take care and stay safe. (And yes your side window sliders are correct as are the door pulls.)
Thanks John, i try to share everything i do and not just the easy bits as sometimes things don't go right and take longer than usual! Not enough real people on RUclips in my opinion mate. Thanks for watching this year I know you have been one to comment alot with advice all the best for 2021
The wipers Arms and blades you fitted look how I remember them in the 1970's
Cars looking good 👌
Thanks Jon
P E R F E C T ! ! All the best for 2021 love your work !! and keep the vids coming Robbie U K
Thanks Robert all the best mate
Happy New Year Alex have a goodin
Thanks mate you too!
looking good
yea i love buying nos parts i have canisters here with suspension bushes in them still sealed that are 70 yrs old
the end tin caps in them are made from recycled metal back in the 40's like ice cream tins
Wow! They sound great
I can only dream of a Cooper s! Love the car and the channel.
Thanks mate
This mini is looking sweet Alex 👍👍
Cheers Tony
Alex, maybe you could frame in some 2x4 walls on the inside of the brick walls and then insulate them This would make your garage a lot warmer. Also put in a ceiling and insulate above that. I did that to my garage and it made such a difference. All the best in 2021. Cheers!
The only thing is with insulation is i dont want to compromise on space mate, long term i will be moving house hopefully
NOS mk1 plastic mirror would have degraded by now, the plastic easily scratches off and crumbles to dust.
Another engaging video, thanks for that.
Good luck for the new year 😊
Yeah some NOS parts mate your paying for the box now. Appreciate your feedback mate thanks for watching and have a great new year
Hi. With your attention to detail I am amazed you haven't sorted your light switch!!! Keep up the good work.
Its on the list mate, i am trying to find the correct dated one to replace it
Looking good Toonster. The car is fairly coming along now
Its coming along nicely now mate, still plenty to under the bonnet
@@classicminidetails8887 These cars are never finished lol
Great video as ever Alex
Thanks Max have a good new year mate
The wiper arms are almost as old as me but look way better than I do 🤣. Surely 2021 has to be better than this last 9 months, I don't think we have the energy for much more of this. All the best mate, have a decent New Year.
All the best for the new year mate
Loving all these vlogs from you tom and william I've just brought a mini and buzzing
Nice what have you bought mate?
1987 mayfair 998 but a cooper lookalike
Nice!
It’s a difficult balance between original and non, think you’re doing well with it. All the best for 2021👍
Sure is mate! All the best pal
Lovely attention to details Tooney, you’ll need to get the original wheels and tyres on it and it’ll be bob on!
Yeah hopefully in the next few months mate
Top marks for attention to detail ,little tip to stop drill going too deep small piece of fuel pipe over the drill bit stops it going further than you want ,drinking straw does the same ,Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Alex
Thats a great idea! Will certainly use that in the future! Have a great new year mate
Its looking really good keep going mate
Thanks mate! Happy New year
@@classicminidetails8887 Same to you my friend
Beings you're a bit ocd like myself, check out the Proxxon polisher, i bought one and its great for small stuff and small areas of bodywork, got mine off ebay not expensive, have a great 2021 matey
Thanks Dean will have a look now! All the best for 2021
That Cooper S is just brilliant and I can truly understand why you love it so much. I’ve actually got a MGB GT in my garage that is a stalled project, tempted to off load it and get a Mini.
Thanks mate! Yes get a mini!!!!
I had both 40 years ago but made the choice to keep the MGB.
Where was my crystal ball?
Jon i wish i bought this cooper S 10 years ago......
S reverse rims with the small hub caps
Looks good
Thanks Nicola!
Vans f***ed me🤣🤣🤣
Happy new year
🤣 That was my to do list, worked well in the background only noticed it when i came to edit 🤣🤣 all the best for 2021 mate
Your car looks 👌 mate. I've just started to restore my 1979 mini van never done anything like this before just wondered if you could recommend any books or info would be much appreciated 👍
Minivan International is a great page on Facebook mate
Alex what are the NOS part number for the wiper arms. I have just bought a 1965 and the wipers come to rest the opposite side. Which manual do you use for getting original part number for the mk1 mini. Good videos as always thanks.
I will have to check mate when I'm back in the garage
Merry Christmas Alex,
Sooo next Mini.... Pickup, Mk1 Traveller, 1275gt or maybe Wolseley/Riley?
All the Best
Andy
1275gt and pick up sounds good 👀
Hi, just found your channel and really like it. Could I tell you of an anti-theft tip from the 60’s. I have had 8 minis in my lifetime driving, most bought new. I passed my test in an old English white Mini Countryman in Sept 1963. At 17 years old. Thieves used to slide a thin piece of metal into the gap between the side widows and push the front window catch and then slide the window back to gain access. To stop this happening we swapped the front catches over from side to side so that the catch was at the front and thus couldn’t be opened.
Interesting! I never really leave my cars unattended really unless they are at a show but thats good to know!!
Got to love nos parts, don’t make them like they used to!
Bullshseyt they do but they want you to pay more for what should be the same assholes
Yeah some new parts are crap.
Thx for showing the boot millboard fitting. Got to do mine now. BTW, my boot lid inner panel looks quite different form all others I have seen. A local mini club leader told me mine is an original early type, without the same reinforcing mouldings as found on later models (and your S??), though my car is an '88. Any opinion on what I have?
Hi mate, if your boot is different my guess is you have a mk2 style? Are you on Instagram? I would happily look at some photos of your boot lid mate to see if i can help?
@@classicminidetails8887 Here's a shot I've put on GoogleDrive: drive.google.com/file/d/1hpugaTkFJ8_gl7Mg-0Bh-YAqj1nyfcOB/view?usp=sharing
Get the roof of your garage properly insulated, it will make quite a difference even if the walls arent insulated.
I am considering it mate, am not sure if to wait in case i move house
Hi bro, quick question... what is that dark blue box thing on your bench?
Heater mate
What size screws are for the mirror I have one but not the right screws that cam with it
Not 100% mate i uses the existing onee
Hi Whats the lucas part number was on wiper arm packet. Thanks David
Not sure mate will have a look when I'm next in the garage mate
Alex. It's me ,John . I'm watching a re-run of "Goldfinger" Have you noticed the rear view mirror on the DB5 !
Interesting! Does this make it worth more now 🤣
@@classicminidetails8887 In one word YES !
Your campaign to return it to original is beginning to look really good now, particularly the interior. However one thing is still wrong and it really stands out like a sore thumb, it is that horrible Paddy Hopkerk throttle pedal extension and it's so easy to correct. Please take it off!! The wipers are much better. Regarding the interior mirror, no doubt it is correct for that age of car but my S didn't have one like it, just a normal black backed mirror with no sucker. It was a much earlier model though, made in 1963, an original1071cc car. Have you ever thought of putting the original hydroelastic suspension back on or is that too difficult or expensive. Good luck for 2021.
Yeah its coming off mate just haven't got round to doing it yet but its certainly getting closer to coming off
What are the details on the restoration book you're using?
JOHN PARNELL Mate
So when are you going to change the carbs to factory fitted ones?
Gave away for free such a mirror as the one you removed.. 😭
I have the original factory carbs for the car mate, the H4s that are on it are Downton carbs mate so i think i am going to leave them on as the performance of the engine is epic
Are the plastic sliding window catches supposed to be metal and also the door openers weren't they cable type not lever .correct me if im wrong
Peter the window catches are correct for my year of car however before may 1963 they had the metal catches so i would say some late 63 cars could have had either or. The door handles i can only see that style in the restoration book by John Parnell there is nothing in there about the cable type mate. Good questions anyway! I only learnt this about the window catches a few weeks back as i thought exactly the same mate
Hi Peter. All the mini coopers , including the mini super deluxe had the metal door handles. l also believe that the early Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet had metal handles. Regarding the window catches Alex is spot on . The catches were chrome on brass (very expensive) . Hence the change to plastic. The early external hinges were also brass ! It's commonly agreed that BMC lost money on every mini sold .
how many amp rating is your alternator?
No idea mate, its not running am Alternator this car mate
09:13 I would have gone straight through the windscreen guaranteed 😂👍
Imagine..... Good video for click bait 🤣
I notice your wipers are fitted in the opposite direction to most other minis I've seen, including your van. You've obviously done considerable research on this car so did they begin as you've fitted them then change on later models?
I hope the van is ok; that whiteboard message is a little worrying, hopefully it's old from before you solved the carb hose problem.
Yes mate so mk1s had drivers side park, my van needs changing over but I'm not to fussed about that one as originality isn't really a thing on that
@@classicminidetails8887 thanks, I didn't know that. I haven't fitted the wipers to my van yet so I'll make sure I do it correctly now.
You will need the correct mk1 wiper unit too mate
@@classicminidetails8887 the wiper unit was already installed when I bought the van but I'm not sure which type it is - something for me to look into - as the van is far from original. I think pretty much everything below the windows, including the engine, wheels and seats has been changed over the years.
You selling that interior mirror bro????
Do i know you?
Be wary Mr Hart, it might not fit if you buy it off him, you know what happened with the banded steels 🤣
@@graemew7001 🤣🤣🤣he has dodgy brakes mate
@@classicminidetails8887 Ah so you do know him 🤣🤣, yeah but at least he does have a Mini to put them on now!!
Mate can you get me Ray Wright in Aussie I can't get any AUSTIN COOPER S BADGES here if you can get a price and post cost I will gladly pay you for them front and back please I've been watching you just about from day dot hopefully we can get together
Ray are you on Instagram? Be happy to talk on there mate may be easiest
stay off the coffee and coke, should be able to sleep better.
I really should! Maybe its something i can try do in the new year! All the best Sasha
