Thanks Stuart. Not been to,Disney but done this route via shuttle on bikes and in the car but not in my MG4. Your video proves it is no problem at all . Our old diesel Zafira mpg ( not worth anything so we keep it as a back up) capable at best 15p per mile on fuel alone so your efficiency at 3.4 @ 12p per mile public charging in such dirty conditions and full load was not bad at all. Well done very encouraging.
Gorgeous car. The charging infrastructure in France, especially on the toll roads is absolutely top notch. I've been all around France, the Netherlands, Belgium and even down to Spain in my e-208. Which is comparable to the MG4 SR in terms of range and average charging speed. It's definitely possible, but I'm happy to have moved on to an EV with a bigger range and better charging speed (MG4 Trophy ER). The SE LR being just £2,500 extra its clearly the 'goldilocks' choice, offering 30kW faster average charging speed and 60 miles extra range. That makes a huge difference on a road trip when you're doing multiple charges in succession.
I did a similar trip to Paris last August, just over 700 miles from Berkshire shortly after getting delivery of the car. I even took the scenic route as I was the one doing all the driving and my daughter next to me was passenger princess. Didn’t have any major issues charging except in Paris itself and one lone charger in the middle of nowhere with 5% battery left. I used TJA most of the time and made the journey much more comfortable and enjoyable. And that was before the various upgrades I got last week. Found the LKA a lot better on French roads.
I took my MG4 SE SR from central Scotland to the south coast and back last August, 1,000 miles all told, and enjoyed every minute. It'll be even better this year with all the new chargers that have been installed.
Thanks for this, what interested me the most was that I compared this to an almost identical trip I did in my MG4 around New Zealand, the numbers were almost identical to mine. your total average spend was 42.5 p per kWh (88.2 NZ cents). I got away with slightly less (74 cents) but when you take in a per km Road User Charge that electric vehicles are charged in NZ of 7.3 cents per km your price per km worked out identical to mine.
I’ve just done Disneyland Paris this week in our Cupra Born from Merseyside, 1100 miles total. Tesla superchargers were my preferred option (with a months subscription) along A16 as they are all at Auchan supermarkets and around 30p per kWh except on way home where we stopped at the Fastned at Aire de Wancourt on A1, fantastic and only 49p per kWh. I used ABRP and it was excellent.
I just bought an MG4 long range but I totally agree that it doesn't matter too much what the range is. (As long as it's not ridiculously low) I travel regularly from Aberdeen to Leeds and just need the car to manage the journey in about 2 stops. But 1 extra stop doesn't actually use more time because the total amount of energy consumed is the same however many stops you do. I opted for the long range partly because the fastest charge speed is a slightly increased and because I want to try to avoid moving too much outside the 20-80% battery status. I can also potentially do the journey with 1 stop if needed and I have a little more to play with in cold weather etc.

As I also have an MG4 SE SR, this has really given me confidence to take it over to the continent. I've driven it from central Scotland to the south coast, 1000-mile round trip, but I wasn't sure about crossing the channel. But it looks great!
@@stuart_thomas To some extent I think it's the language that worries me a bit, especially dealing with charger screens. And unfamiliar charging providers. Even though I have elementary French and German. (I still remember finding a cop in the middle of an interminable forest in Germany and looking up the word for petrol station. He gave me clear directions, and THEN I spotted the thing marked on the map I was using. Range anxiety isn't only for EVs.)

great video thank you for sharing your experience! so as usual it is always about the usage you do of your vehicle. If you do not travel often, than it is acceptable to waste 4.5 hr extra respect a gasoline car for the same cost, because you can save at home chargin over th enight when you do commuting. if you travel more often it is a big no.
thank you for the insight an effort. My son is driving the MG4 std. Gives me an idea how this car performs. only commuting till now, since 10.22. I had been in Montenegro or Malaga from Frankfurt area with the Ioniq 28kWh without any problem. So yes i agree if you have decent charing rate then go by EV where you like.
I love these real world videos you make! Cobham services are one of my favourite places to stop by, specially since Electroverse gives you a 61p/kWh price. Not super cheap but beats anything out there (except Tesla SCs, that is), and there's a lot of stations there. It was nice to see this trip, I aim to do the same but from the Midlands with my Trophy later in the year, so good to know about the destination charger. And as always, so so disappointing seeing how much cheaper charging is in mainland Europe, when we could be living on renewables alone with the right push... PS: I got mine way later than you and I've already done 12.5k miles in it in less than a year, so you can tell I absolutely love driving it. Just needs a bit of TLC on the software side.

Great video, I miss Paris Disneyland. I love the way you showed us your trip meter as you were driving and the cost breakdown, towards the end of the video. I love the look of your MG4 and I can see that it is an efficient EV. However, my Toyota Prius Excel 2020 PHEV, would do this journey with a much lesser refill stop time and it would cost £65.
Even though you are using a standard range EV, with let's be honest not the fastest charge rates. You still make it look very easy when the infrastructure is getting better and better by the day. Things will just get easier and easier for EV owners. Great video 👍
I've just come back from my ski trip to Italy in my e-niro. I echo your comments that charging in France is easy and usually cheaper than the UK. I confirm that the expanded Cobham Ionity hub is operational. I'd also correct your statement that the Tesla chargers at Calais are cheaper than the non Tesla ones. I was charged 32p/kWh earlier today for my charge on the non Telsa machines via Electroverse.

Thank you for that! There was me thinking I'd been saying it wrong all these years. And I'll be saying it again I think because according to ZapMap it now has 20 chargers in operation and it looks just right for my third charge on my way to the south coast in the summer.
We did Cleethorpes to La Tranche Sur Mer in May, in our Trophy. Used mainly superchargers with a months subscription. Worked out about half the cost of other charging networks.
I visited Hereford last Autumn, and was dismayed to find only 2 working Rapid chargers in the entire city; has the situation improved since then?? There was a 3rd, but it had been reported as broken for over 3 months at that point. Luckily, there were several at a 50's style US diner on the way to Malvern, near Ledbury.
@@ianemery2925 As far as i know this hasn't improved, although as we have home charging i haven't put any effort into looking for local charging. Zapmap shows 3x 50kW DC and quite a few AC chargers scattered around. EV takeup appears very low around here right now so it's no surprise we have limited public chargers.
@@6strawb I believe one of those three 50KW chargers is private now - after a spat between Hereford city council and BP Polar meant BP restricted it to their employees only; leaving two, of which one regularly seems to be broken for months on end. Hereford is in a chicken-and-egg situation, I know people in Hereford who considered and rejected EV purchase BECAUSE of the lack of chargers in the area; now, TBF, this is pure range anxiety, if you live locally, you dont need local rapid chargers, but for visitors to the city, it is an issue; perhaps the Hereford Tourist board should try and agitate for some in car parks, at places tourists visit; or help fund some at local petrol stations.
Can't help but think there was some over charging going on, I did this trip in my e niro, and didn't charge anywhere near as often. But we did stop for toilet breaks, as no matter how much range you have left, the bladder is still in control. Once note, it seems Disney do not list the chargers on Google as they are for guests only, not general public, so to avoid people relying on them, they keep them hidden. But they are listed on the Disney Paris website.
Doing the maths, that is moderately impressive. However, that cost is no bargain. My 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 5.8 litre V8 does 40 miles to the Imperial gallon. In that distance, it would need one full at each end. One in Paris, one back home. In terms of Canadian dollars and gas prices, it would have cost $144 for the round trip. Given the exchange rate, the cost would be about a wash. I know, petrol prices are usurious on that side of the Pond, but I would still have used well under two tanks, and the tank is 70 litres. The mileage range in the MG would be useless to me. From where I live to the nearest major city is about 125 miles round trip, and there are many places I go that do not have charging stations. That is in good weather. Get 5 or 6 inches of snow on the road with temperatures in the -30 range, and look out!

I like the idea of an EV but if I compare how this trip would be in a diesel car, I am less than convinced that I would want to do a long trip in a short-ish range EV. In comparison, a diesel would require only one refuelling which would take, at most, 10 minutes (as opposed to 5 hours), with no queuing. The cost would be higher (around £17 more). I know that you planned stops with eating but that also limited your choice of where to eat (perhaps not an issue with kids who like McD's!). I'm impressed with your panning!
Thanks for tuning in. Indeed, on grand scheme of things a diesel/petrol makes more sense for long trips. There’s no comparing with time. If this is something you do often, it’s a no brainer unless you love hanging around charging station😂 but planning is essential on these trips if you want to remove any stress. Use case of your vehicle is reflection of vehicle choice. I’ve always owned a diesel for the miles i do however. My use case, 250-300 miles a week, home charging at a cost of £10 per week fits EV ownership. I do many trips of 150 miles too and again it fulfils the use case. But it isn’t for everyone and public charging infrastructure in the UK isn’t where it should be. We also have a Tesla and that removes also issues.
Watching this too see if ev is with us making the jump. Not convinced. Done Disneyland Paris and back from Portsmouth in a 520d estate. Did the 650 odd miles on 1 tank with 40 miles left once home. It's £35 rfl. Can't see the maths works before the extra time.
It’s a fair assessment. It’s not for everyone, but I would also make it clear unless you drive these distances regularly and you can charge at home or rarely less on public charging it’s amazing how much you will save. It’s cost £3 to charge this car at home for 170 miles guaranteed miles. But it really is based on use case.
Well done. Interesting, looks like the rapids were only just over £0.50/kwh with Electroverse. The only charger I've ever had to queue for was a Cobham.
Cobham was a real disappointment as it was the only proper stop in the UK and was night and day to France. Having said that, I hope the expansion is in use as while we were there there was always 4 or 5 cars waiting.
@@stuart_thomas you sure about the Ionity cost? I charged at Cobham some 3 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure it was 0.61p/kWh then, even when looking at the map on the Electroverse app, right now it say 65p. (8+5% discount)
So the cost of charging is rather similar to the cost of petrol (my car does about 13 pence a mile in petrol at 49 mpg), except filling the tank takes about 2 minutes. Obviously, the electric car gets the edge if you charge at home on economy 7 tariff.. but it's surprising to me that those chargers are almost as expensive as petrol..
I look at many ev road trips , everyone regards the trip as a challenge, not the message the pro ev want to convey but it is a fact petrol and diesel vehicles make road trips easier, i have a bmw i3 rex as i will never public charge, no hunt the charger which may not work or is busy and have to wait,

Induction chargers are popping up. On a train would be great considering it runs on electric. I’d love to see a vacuum on there too. Great opportunity to clean the damn thing out

Yeah funny that, buy your electricity from a petrol station and you pay the same as doing 30+ mpg in an ice, buy it from your home overnight cheap rate and you are paying the equivalent of 300+ mpg.
Question for you: how did you not know there were chargers at Disney, is that an app issue or Disney issue? I have heard about using A Better Route Planner and checking multiple apps, do you do this?
It’s a fair point and I’ve done this route in my previous vw touran many times with one stop. As I mentioned, I could have done it with at least 2 less stops but I was being over cautious. Having said that, my question I ask is how often do you drive that far? Could you manage a few extra stops once in a while etc Thanks for tuning in
I wish I could say I was surprised that the only place you had problems were in the UK, but I’m not. The government appear to have plan to sort this out despite sitting on £Bn they have said they have set aside to improve motorway charging.

£78 in my diesel focus, and only 60 miles more than doing it on one tank. And as a bonus, insurance is dirt cheap, I don't need to worry about cards or apps, and no child labour required to make the fuel tank.

Lols! Nothing worth waiting for. Without low state of charges on this route (I think 17% was lowest) you won’t see anything over 65kW and that would tail off around 50% SoC. best received on this car is 88kWh. If you do want to see the charging profile of this car, I have a video on it 👍
You stopped 11 times to charge up and it cost £93. If I was doing this in my car at an easy 50+ mpg it would cost about £100-120 depending on motorway services costs and I would only need to stop once for fuel at Paris plus an additional stop each leg for a toilet break for 15 minutes. The whole journey seems to be an exercise in where to charge then waiting to get on a charger then waiting for ages whilst the car charges. In my petrol car with a range of 500 miles I don’t need to think about where to fill up and waste hardly any time filling up. I just couldn’t be bothered with all the extra faff, planning, worry about range and using various methods of payment and that’s without factoring in the extra cost of an electric car in the first place which could take 10 years or more to recover through cheaper fuel ing costs. EVs are not for me I’m afraid.
@@lanehogger1532 Yes, a relative of mine recently bought a Mercedes EQA at a cost of around £60k. She normally charges at home only but was not prepared to carry out a journey of about 240 miles to visit me as she was too worried about range and where to get a charged up near me. She took the train and I had to pick her up and take her back to the station. Madness - more money than sense.
Yes basically the whole trip has to be arranged around fitting in with charging. It's a joke. EVs have their place as a 2nd car for nipping round town, shops etc., at most.
I agree 100%. We’ve attempted the journey up to the highlands twice in our ev and it no longer was about stopping where and when we wanted to including taking the scenic routes we love but rather a point to point exercise in trying to find working chargers. It was awful to be honest so this year we’ll be going in my wife’s ice car and get back to enjoying the holiday for Scotland and not for charging points.
Think less like this is a video of electric cars are better but that they can do the odd trip like this. Every normal journey you do is easier and cheaper, you just have to live with the faff on a long journey. To some it may be worth it, to others it may not. I save about £3k a year in fuel, the used car cost me £15k. If it lasts 5 years it will feel like it’s paid for itself. If you can’t change at home I would stick with a petrol/diesel.
I would not be stopping at calais on way back, also your charging issues just enforces why ev is not the future, delays, missing your train etc... hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles will be the future... not this ev nonsense and you also said you drove in eco mode...why? I drive with heated seats all 4 if family with me especially in winter, heated steering wheel, etc no need to give up comfort... its like we are going back decades with these ev cars... hope you have seen the 3 issues with ev cars.. insurance and how easy they are writing them off, the battery fires due to thermal runaway, and the most scary, vapour cloud explosions... I would not be be putting my family in that sort of danger with the full ev cars
Did he miss the train because of charging or being late because of the traffic and not setting off early enough? Synthetic fuels will use more electricity than powering a battery so will be more expensive. They still produce air pollution and seems silly. biofuels will use cereals that would otherwise feed people in the global south. Rich societies will buy out the world's cereals for transport and starve the third world with biofuels. The USA already uses more cereals for biofuels than Africa uses for food (50% more). Don't be daft.
Great to hear your thoughts and thanks for taking time tuning in. I agree, EVs, with the current UK infrastructure are not for everyone, yet, but I would suggest trying one before writing them off, as they do suit most people… I do think there’s a lot of misunderstandings in your comments. You may have misheard me say in my video that I had all the creature comforts running even though I selected an eco drive setting. Eco, is the drive setting. I can still accelerate quicker than most, there was no compromises. I’m not that stupid or would want to fall out with my wife and daughters before I spend 5 days with them 😂 I am in agreement with insurance premiums going up, but that’s inflation and all of our premiums have gone up. My home insurance took a big jump, but that’s not because my MG4 is on the driveway. I think it’s very easy to be lead by media and how we dissect facts from headlines. We did have a VW touran TDI, great car, it was my second and has been dependable for my family. It was the last car we drove to France, just a couple of years ago. Guess what? We stopped using it when our EV came along. It never got used, then I had to insure, MOT and service it and it needed some work. It’s still a great car, but we preferred to drive the EV. Plus, we saved a fortune in fuel and the insurance was the same. Again, it’s not for everyone but it suited our use case. In the last week I’ve seen two car fires on the M5 hard shoulder during my commute to work, both involved ICE cars. I’ve seen multiple broken down vehicles, they were all ICE cars. Our new Tesla model Y (company car) is one of the safest cars on the road and is the best selling car in the world (which was announced this week). My MG4 LFP battery is one of the safest batteries you can use in this application with no thermal runaways. My family are very safe as I’ve done my research. I have no issues with petrol/diesel vehicles or hybrids, It’s great that we have a choices.

Even though you are using a standard range EV, with let's be honest not the fastest charge rates. You still make it look very easy when the infrastructure is getting better and better by the day. Things will just get easier and easier for EV owners.

I've just come back from my ski trip to Italy in my e-niro. I echo your comments that charging in France is easy and usually cheaper than the UK.

I'd also correct your statement that the Tesla chargers at Calais are cheaper than the non Tesla ones. I was charged 32p/kWh earlier today for my charge on the non Telsa machines via Electroverse.

Thank you for that! There was me thinking I'd been saying it wrong all these years. And I'll be saying it again I think because according to ZapMap it now has 20 chargers in operation and it looks just right for my third charge on my way to the south coast in the summer.
We did Cleethorpes to La Tranche Sur Mer in May, in our Trophy. Used mainly superchargers with a months subscription. Worked out about half the cost of other charging networks.
Looks very simple, thinking of doing the same. We're in Newcastle though so would drive down from Amsterdam as there's a ferry that takes you there.

Planning to do the same trip in a few months except starting in Hereford and going in our ZOE ZE50.
I visited Hereford last Autumn, and was dismayed to find only 2 working Rapid chargers in the entire city; has the situation improved since then?? There was a 3rd, but it had been reported as broken for over 3 months at that point.
Luckily, there were several at a 50's style US diner on the way to Malvern, near Ledbury.
@@ianemery2925 As far as i know this hasn't improved, although as we have home charging i haven't put any effort into looking for local charging.
Zapmap shows 3x 50kW DC and quite a few AC chargers scattered around. EV takeup appears very low around here right now so it's no surprise we have limited public chargers.
@@6strawb I believe one of those three 50KW chargers is private now - after a spat between Hereford city council and BP Polar meant BP restricted it to their employees only; leaving two, of which one regularly seems to be broken for months on end.
Hereford is in a chicken-and-egg situation, I know people in Hereford who considered and rejected EV purchase BECAUSE of the lack of chargers in the area; now, TBF, this is pure range anxiety, if you live locally, you dont need local rapid chargers, but for visitors to the city, it is an issue; perhaps the Hereford Tourist board should try and agitate for some in car parks, at places tourists visit; or help fund some at local petrol stations.
I have exactly the same car just in a better colour and will definitely be doing this trip at some point with the kids.
Can't help but think there was some over charging going on, I did this trip in my e niro, and didn't charge anywhere near as often. But we did stop for toilet breaks, as no matter how much range you have left, the bladder is still in control.
Once note, it seems Disney do not list the chargers on Google as they are for guests only, not general public, so to avoid people relying on them, they keep them hidden. But they are listed on the Disney Paris website.

Doing the maths, that is moderately impressive. However, that cost is no bargain. My 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 5.8 litre V8 does 40 miles to the Imperial gallon. In that distance, it would need one full at each end. One in Paris, one back home. In terms of Canadian dollars and gas prices, it would have cost $144 for the round trip. Given the exchange rate, the cost would be about a wash. I know, petrol prices are usurious on that side of the Pond, but I would still have used well under two tanks, and the tank is 70 litres. The mileage range in the MG would be useless to me. From where I live to the nearest major city is about 125 miles round trip, and there are many places I go that do not have charging stations. That is in good weather. Get 5 or 6 inches of snow on the road with temperatures in the -30 range, and look out!

I like the idea of an EV but if I compare how this trip would be in a diesel car, I am less than convinced that I would want to do a long trip in a short-ish range EV. In comparison, a diesel would require only one refuelling which would take, at most, 10 minutes (as opposed to 5 hours), with no queuing. The cost would be higher (around £17 more). I know that you planned stops with eating but that also limited your choice of where to eat (perhaps not an issue with kids who like McD's!). I'm impressed with your panning!
Thanks for tuning in. Indeed, on grand scheme of things a diesel/petrol makes more sense for long trips. There’s no comparing with time. If this is something you do often, it’s a no brainer unless you love hanging around charging station😂 but planning is essential on these trips if you want to remove any stress.
Use case of your vehicle is reflection of vehicle choice. I’ve always owned a diesel for the miles i do however. My use case, 250-300 miles a week, home charging at a cost of £10 per week fits EV ownership. I do many trips of 150 miles too and again it fulfils the use case. But it isn’t for everyone and public charging infrastructure in the UK isn’t where it should be. We also have a Tesla and that removes also issues.
Watching this too see if ev is with us making the jump. Not convinced.
Done Disneyland Paris and back from Portsmouth in a 520d estate. Did the 650 odd miles on 1 tank with 40 miles left once home. It's £35 rfl. Can't see the maths works before the extra time.
It’s a fair assessment. It’s not for everyone, but I would also make it clear unless you drive these distances regularly and you can charge at home or rarely less on public charging it’s amazing how much you will save. It’s cost £3 to charge this car at home for 170 miles guaranteed miles. But it really is based on use case.
I have a 520d too and for long distance driving you can’t beat them. I live in the Portsmouth area too 👍🏼

Well done. Interesting, looks like the rapids were only just over £0.50/kwh with Electroverse. The only charger I've ever had to queue for was a Cobham.
Cobham was a real disappointment as it was the only proper stop in the UK and was night and day to France. Having said that, I hope the expansion is in use as while we were there there was always 4 or 5 cars waiting.
@@stuart_thomas you sure about the Ionity cost? I charged at Cobham some 3 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure it was 0.61p/kWh then, even when looking at the map on the Electroverse app, right now it say 65p. (8+5% discount)

So the cost of charging is rather similar to the cost of petrol (my car does about 13 pence a mile in petrol at 49 mpg), except filling the tank takes about 2 minutes. Obviously, the electric car gets the edge if you charge at home on economy 7 tariff.. but it's surprising to me that those chargers are almost as expensive as petrol..

I look at many ev road trips , everyone regards the trip as a challenge, not the message the pro ev want to convey but it is a fact petrol and diesel vehicles make road trips easier, i have a bmw i3 rex as i will never public charge, no hunt the charger which may not work or is busy and have to wait,

Yeah funny that, buy your electricity from a petrol station and you pay the same as doing 30+ mpg in an ice, buy it from your home overnight cheap rate and you are paying the equivalent of 300+ mpg.

Question for you: how did you not know there were chargers at Disney, is that an app issue or Disney issue? I have heard about using A Better Route Planner and checking multiple apps, do you do this?
How much of your charging time was taken by food etc and how much was extra compared with petrol?
Both stops where we had dinner/lunch, our meal outlasted the charging.

Didn’t do anything with them and no ‘flashing’ from other motorists so I guess it was fine

It’s a fair point and I’ve done this route in my previous vw touran many times with one stop. As I mentioned, I could have done it with at least 2 less stops but I was being over cautious. Having said that, my question I ask is how often do you drive that far? Could you manage a few extra stops once in a while etc

I wish I could say I was surprised that the only place you had problems were in the UK, but I’m not. The government appear to have plan to sort this out despite sitting on £Bn they have said they have set aside to improve motorway charging.

£78 in my diesel focus, and only 60 miles more than doing it on one tank.
And as a bonus, insurance is dirt cheap, I don't need to worry about cards or apps, and no child labour required to make the fuel tank.

Lols! Nothing worth waiting for. Without low state of charges on this route (I think 17% was lowest) you won’t see anything over 65kW and that would tail off around 50% SoC. best received on this car is 88kWh. If you do want to see the charging profile of this car, I have a video on it 👍

You stopped 11 times to charge up and it cost £93. If I was doing this in my car at an easy 50+ mpg it would cost about £100-120 depending on motorway services costs and I would only need to stop once for fuel at Paris plus an additional stop each leg for a toilet break for 15 minutes. The whole journey seems to be an exercise in where to charge then waiting to get on a charger then waiting for ages whilst the car charges. In my petrol car with a range of 500 miles I don’t need to think about where to fill up and waste hardly any time filling up. I just couldn’t be bothered with all the extra faff, planning, worry about range and using various methods of payment and that’s without factoring in the extra cost of an electric car in the first place which could take 10 years or more to recover through cheaper fuel ing costs. EVs are not for me I’m afraid.

@@lanehogger1532 Yes, a relative of mine recently bought a Mercedes EQA at a cost of around £60k. She normally charges at home only but was not prepared to carry out a journey of about 240 miles to visit me as she was too worried about range and where to get a charged up near me. She took the train and I had to pick her up and take her back to the station. Madness - more money than sense.

I agree 100%. We’ve attempted the journey up to the highlands twice in our ev and it no longer was about stopping where and when we wanted to including taking the scenic routes we love but rather a point to point exercise in trying to find working chargers. It was awful to be honest so this year we’ll be going in my wife’s ice car and get back to enjoying the holiday for Scotland and not for charging points.
Think less like this is a video of electric cars are better but that they can do the odd trip like this. Every normal journey you do is easier and cheaper, you just have to live with the faff on a long journey. To some it may be worth it, to others it may not. I save about £3k a year in fuel, the used car cost me £15k. If it lasts 5 years it will feel like it’s paid for itself. If you can’t change at home I would stick with a petrol/diesel.
Had my MG4 4 months and 4,000 kms, running cost ZERO. Electric provider gives me 3 hrs free at night.
I would not be stopping at calais on way back, also your charging issues just enforces why ev is not the future, delays, missing your train etc... hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles will be the future... not this ev nonsense and you also said you drove in eco mode...why? I drive with heated seats all 4 if family with me especially in winter, heated steering wheel, etc no need to give up comfort... its like we are going back decades with these ev cars... hope you have seen the 3 issues with ev cars.. insurance and how easy they are writing them off, the battery fires due to thermal runaway, and the most scary, vapour cloud explosions... I would not be be putting my family in that sort of danger with the full ev cars

Synthetic fuels will use more electricity than powering a battery so will be more expensive. They still produce air pollution and seems silly. biofuels will use cereals that would otherwise feed people in the global south. Rich societies will buy out the world's cereals for transport and starve the third world with biofuels.
The USA already uses more cereals for biofuels than Africa uses for food (50% more).

I do think there’s a lot of misunderstandings in your comments. You may have misheard me say in my video that I had all the creature comforts running even though I selected an eco drive setting. Eco, is the drive setting. I can still accelerate quicker than most, there was no compromises. I’m not that stupid or would want to fall out with my wife and daughters before I spend 5 days with them 😂
I am in agreement with insurance premiums going up, but that’s inflation and all of our premiums have gone up. My home insurance took a big jump, but that’s not because my MG4 is on the driveway. I think it’s very easy to be lead by media and how we dissect facts from headlines. We did have a VW touran TDI, great car, it was my second and has been dependable for my family. It was the last car we drove to France, just a couple of years ago. Guess what? We stopped using it when our EV came along. It never got used, then I had to insure, MOT and service it and it needed some work. It’s still a great car, but we preferred to drive the EV. Plus, we saved a fortune in fuel and the insurance was the same. Again, it’s not for everyone but it suited our use case.
In the last week I’ve seen two car fires on the M5 hard shoulder during my commute to work, both involved ICE cars. I’ve seen multiple broken down vehicles, they were all ICE cars.
Our new Tesla model Y (company car) is one of the safest cars on the road and is the best selling car in the world (which was announced this week). My MG4 LFP battery is one of the safest batteries you can use in this application with no thermal runaways. My family are very safe as I’ve done my research.
I have no issues with petrol/diesel vehicles or hybrids, It’s great that we have a choices.
But...but...but what about the vapour clouds 😢
