Looks about on par with what I'm getting from my LR Trophy version. But I don't keep it at 22C, but 26C, I think there's a 4C delta from what it's actually putting out, the internal temperature as reported by the app and an internal temperature gauge match that, not the '26C' on the HVAC. 22C makes it blow cold air still, quite annoyed with this but once set to 26C, I've not touched it for over 4 months now. I do always chuckle when 'summer' tests like these show a bleak, misty sight and barely any sun :D I guess to the outside world, it might look off but there's something magical about the way everything looks in this weather.
    Good video as always!

Just last week I was on the motorway with my Zoe. Drove at 110kph which is about 1mph slower than 70mph and managed to drive 180km with 79% battery. I'm really taken aback just how bad my Zoe is compared to your SE SR even though we have similar battery size.
Thankfully that piece of junk is going away in a couple of days. Sadly not to the junkyard but to the dealership which is going to sell it to someone else.

    Thanks for these vids.
I've thought about it a lot and ordered the SE. Most of my driving is town driving - occasionally I'll drive a bit further but then I'd need to plan a stop in either vehicle or charge at the end point for return.
So for me, in real world use the better efficiency of the smaller battery SE works for my lifestyle and use case. I would have liked the cameras, but not enough to be a deal breaker.
Car's coming in about 4 weeks apparently; really can't wait!

I’m in New Zealand and have had the Essence (similar to the Trophy) for a month now. So was interested to see what range you would get on the motorway. In NZ the Essence has 18” rims (and wider tyres) so I expect the range will be a bit less. So far I’ve only driven it around town / country roads … love it.

Interesting stuff. Thanks. A real-world difference of only about 25 miles range between the two at 10% charge, which is as low as I'd want to take them on a motorway.
Just wish they would make a "SE SR +" with more features included as standard. I object to safety features like blind spot detection being left off standard trim levels.

Ive had my SR model for a year also. I don't drive as fast - usually 60-62 mph on dual carriageways for approx 50% of journeys and 50% rural and town driving on eco mode ,the GOM predicts 230-240 miles in summer. Really surprised that the trophy has so little range advantage, the SE SR easily exceeds my bladder range. Its a pity MG UK do not offer the LFP battery on the Trophy like in other markets, I'd buy one.

This is where the sweet spot of the range is the SE LR, which is more efficient than the Trophy because as it doesn't have the extra spoiler which lowers the efficiency.

As usual your videos are very clear and to the point Stuart.
You may remember I ordered a mg4 last 31-10-2023 in spain, well still no reply from MG to any email, dealer still said, doesn't know nothing, so we decided to go on holiday to turkey as we were not going to wait any longer, so guess what, we are there 3 weeks and get an email your car is at the docks we will have it here in 2 to 3 weeks in the dealership. So cut short our intended 10 week holiday and book a flight back in time to collect the car.
Get back and get an email I have just seen your car it is the wrong colour inside. I will reorder the car for you. Yep, really, no apology, no, i will make sure its priority, in fact nothing. question him and he again doesn't know nothing. why have you got to make a new order , because your order they have sent it wrong, so i need to reorder. So when will it come "no idea".
Cannot recommend buying any car from the spanish MG. if this is the treatment before you buy what happens after you buy.
Any way they have done me a favour 🤣 as l have test drove some more cars and even the tesla model 3 (didn't before as it was some 10 or 12 000 euros more) and it is such a better car in every way, as since i ordered the MG4 it has come down in price and is now for us only 2000 euros more than our pre MG4 price rise. So we have cancelled the MG4 (at least they didn't argue about giving back our deposit) and have ordered the New refreshed highland model 3. which should be here october/november. Maybe just in time for our planned trip to the UK to visit family etc. So will we come to UK by diesel or electric. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @Ian_Woods
      @Ian_Woods Год назад +1

@@stuart_thomas Yep we feel we have dodged a bullet, 🤣 And even though we thought the M3 that we test drove was so much better than the MG, worth the 2175 euros more than our pre MG price rise order (mind new Mg orders will be so much closer in price, don't understand how anybody would order the MG trophy with the colour options, unless of course you just hate Tesla for some reason.) But it is clear the new Highland refresh is so much better still, with maybe the exception of the indicators. 🤔
      BUT
Even though I said it is just 2175 euros more (that for the base pearl white with black interior, which I like and Ana didn't think it looked like a Tomb) but I made the stupid mistake of showing Ana the "Out of Spec" youtube channel look around of the highland M3 at iaat. which was in the new colour Ultra Red with white seats. And she said WOW it looks so much better in that colour with the white seats. There went my just 2 grands more 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ok, will let you know when we get it.

Hello Stuart. Will going as low as 3% degrade the battery, done regularly, or is there a recommended battery %age that ideally you should not go below? Are the percentage and range reliable unlike conventional cars telling you 50 mile range then a few seconds later 0? Really interesting how close the ranges are, Thank you for a a very informative video.

  • @zorgonfire

I get about 15kWh/100km when I have tail wind to up to 28kWh/100km with strong head wind on a trophy (luxury with heatpump) at 80 milles an hour. The drag is proprtional to the square of the AIR speed. You would have to drive both of them at the same time same route to get accurate results. Anyway Trophy is not about the range compared to the standard. It is about the 42kWh that you get at fast chargers in 25 minutes vs. 35 kWh in 40 minutes with the standard. For 1000km jurneys that is very important and adds up quickly.

22% bigger battery but also weighs more as well, plus the spoiler creates more drag.
What would be a fairer test would be the SE LR vs the SE SR.

    • @stuart_thomas

It’s hard to calculate range. It depends on so many factors. I like to consider worst case scenario which I think in summer is 270 miles and winter 200 based on 70mph motorway and using appropriate HVAC for each season

Interesting! I just had another look at your 60mph test... approx 170 miles at 7 degrees compared with 70mph, 180 miles at 21 degrees. I'm looking forward to trying my Australian equivalent of your car, Excite 51, our temperature range in tropical Cairns is between 20 and 30+ degrees but our speed limit is 100 kph (60 mph). I'm guessing I'll 320 kms or more. Does anyone in Britain have a tow bar on their MG4? I'd like to try a small camping trailer (motorcycle style).

I’m not sure if you are aware but you are commiting a driving offence which is middle lane hogging, I wanted to let you know incase you get pulled over as I saw plenty of times when you was in the middle lane when you should of been in the far left lane, I understand it’s foggy but the left lane is there as the main lane, all other lanes are overtaking only plus it causes more congestion as people have to go around you.
    Other than that, lovely video

I’m the first person to ridicule middle lane hoggers. Don’t worry most of the trip is in lane 1. My camera has a fish eye lens so everything feels much further away than it really is so in most cases I’m overtaking etc 👍

With the bettery's longevity in mind, idealy you don't want to go lower than 10%. Some experts even say 20%. Which means that both these cars have much lower ranges than advertised.
Nothing shocking really. These official tests they do are BS and all manufactuerers overadvertise their products.
If you need a car for 250mile roadtrips, get something with a much larger battery to get a realistic 250 mile range without sacrificing the life of the battery. Or.....have some common sense and get a conventional car. EVs are more like.....toys at the moment, or best case scenario, city cars.
