It seems that the main problems- lane assist and infotainment navigation are fixable with software improvements. I hope so, but for normal driving I have found this to be an excellent car with superb value. One thing not mentioned (except for door closure) is the build/paint quality. It compares well with Mazda and that is a very high standard, definitely not 'Chinese rubbish'.
The MG4 is a lovely car. But in Denmark it is now so close in price to a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range that it is hard not to choose the Tesla. The MG 4 does have some good features like you pointed out especially the ability to heat the battery, why all manufacturers don't do this is beyond me. It is a pity manufacturers don't give range figures for spring / summer and autumn / winter but I guess people wouldn't buy the EV. I think I'm right in saying that the UK model doesn't get a heat pump. We pay a lot for our cars in the UK and manufacturers still think they can skimp here.
@@bikeman123 Spot on. Sadly the right hand drive models in the UK and Ireland don't have heat pumps. I don't know how much more it would have cost but I would have liked to have one for the cabin heating.

Did you have all season or winter tyres?
Thanks for watching Simon. Here in Denmark we are lucky. Huge number of electric cars are available here. This is also why I only make content about EV’s. The MG4 is far better than ZSEV. It has a heat pump and charges on 3 fases (in Denmark), although borg not in the cheaper Nordic Edition, which I also mention in the video. The tires on the car in the video are winter tires. This is an old video. I don't remember if the car was on winter- or summer tires. Usually they come with, for the season, correct tires from the importer when I borrow the cars...

Just wondering why all MG cars have a disproportional wheel size. Every model looks underwheeled. Look at MG ZS EV or the MG marvel. Looks really weird.
At the beginning it was stated that the WLTP figs were 435km of range at 166W/km. Later in real world driving it was 250 W/km. That's a huge difference. Also, the batteries are NCM and thus it is recommended that charge is either 80 or 90% maximum and discharge is not less than 5%, further reducing range. Thus max range of 211 Km in those conditions. Pathetic. My Mazda 2 gets 1000km on 44 li of diesel. Why on earth would I want an EV?
The 250 wh/km was wit heavy motoreay driving at 130 km/h You’re Mazda wont do that great under those conditions. After owning 30+ ICE Cars (BMW, Audi and so on) i am not going back to fossil fuels 😊
I really like that colour but unfortunately it’s also the same colour as all the utility vehicles of my local council/authority. So this would be the same colour as refuse trucks, road repair trucks, council vans, cars, drain clearance machinery. It would just blend into the background. And those awful rear spoilers in the top spec., which actually decrease the range by 16km due to increased drag. Not much form and function thrown out the window.
@@jimirosa - From other independent testing, the reduction of potential range is correct. The different between the top specs. and others is mainly cosmetic. The main outer difference being the rear spoilers, so I presumed increased drag. I’m fully apologetic for being incorrect for this assumption of increased drag, if I am incorrect.

@@RamblingOverHillsAndDowns Other manufacturers (eg Kia) generally charge around £1k for a heat pump - there are some user tests on youtube which suggest the efficiency gains for the UK are minimal. Would be good to have the option to add a heat pump tho.
The long range but more basic Lower spec model doesn't have lane assist etc. Does this mean the annoying lane/tech issues wouldn't happen in that model?
I’ve only testet this version and in Denmark We Can only choose from the two models mentioned in the video…
Has the driving aids received any updates so far or scheduled to get them? Also wish it would self park as well..
Yes, they have been updated. But unfortunately the driving assistants in the MG4 are still among the worst on the market.
Thanks for watching 😊
@@jimirosa Thank you for the update! Are you aware of any changelogs for these updates? I'm conscious that if the car decides to stop abruptly because it thinks there's an obstacle ahead we could get rear ended by a car following us. This would just be unacceptable... Is it possible to disable this by default? I'm concerned that my wife would take the car, forget to disable and get in one of those situations and panic
Great video Jimi. Did you use winter tyres?
Thanks. And Yes 👍😊
No, looks like season tyres.
Everything on the screen along with steering wheel shortcut buttons and the odd bit of voice command you soon get used to everything and it becomes very simple to use.
Thanks for the inputs 👍😊
My mum has one. Good value. Cabin pretty good. Fromt is stylish. Rear three quarters is actually ugly. Not a cohesive style. Good value and Iiked how it drived
Thanks for watching. You’re mum drives a great EV 👍😊🔋⚡️
How does it compare to the eSoul? I always thought that was the "EV to beat".
I’m Sorry.
I have never driven it.
The e-soul is a rare EV in Denmark.
Kia ora, Jimi greetings from Aotearoa (New Zealand). Thanks for the review, we do not have this car yet in N.Z. Nearest to this is the MGZS ev and BYD Atto3. Where I live (central)is mostly temperate, only the volcanic plateau and far south get as cold as northern Europe. What we do have is hills and mountains, how would the rear drive be going up to ski fields in winter? Good to see the charging is very good. There is no heat pump? Did you have all season or winter tyres?
Thanks for watching Simon.
Here in Denmark we are lucky. Huge number of electric cars are available here. This is also why I only make content about EV’s. The MG4 is far better than ZSEV. It has a heat pump and charges on 3 fases (in Denmark), although borg not in the cheaper Nordic Edition, which I also mention in the video. The tires on the car in the video are winter tires.
Merry Christmas
@@jimirosa We have 240V here, most homes are single phase, an electrician can install dual phase, 3 phase is for industrial or hyper charger/Tesla supercharger nearest one is 50km. Enjoy the snowy Christmas, we have sun & rain 20-25C so far.
cant you assign stuff to the wheel buttons - ie cant you assign the mode switching there?
Yes You Can but not enough buttons 😊
The Nordic edition may have a smaller battery because you have many more chargers than, say, stone-age countries such as mine - the UK.... 😭
😂😂😂👍
Yes, ee have many AC and DC chargers. But out winters Can be cold and with No heatpump thats a Deal breaker…
good review
Thanks 😊
Does this car fit 3 children in the back seats? Thanks
There is no room for three children in car seats. I would estimate that the car has the same space as a newer Golf.
Interesting, because in my old Gold 5, 1.9 TDI, it fits easily 2 people and a child, or two children and a grown up person. Thank you for your answer!
Is the MG 4 on winter tyres in this video?
Yes
@@jimirosaStudded or friction?
Is there a lot of wind noise at normal or high speed?
it's definitely okay for a car in that price range
Why are there two coolant reservoirs?
In many electric cars, there are separate cooling systems for the high-voltage battery and for the drivetrain.
This 7y warranty is great but it's a list with several things that's limited to 1-7y. But the main / expensive thing is 7y.
True.
Winter test with summer tires? MG4 be default has summer Bridgestone
This is an old video. I don't remember if the car was on winter- or summer tires. Usually they come with, for the season, correct tires from the importer when I borrow the cars...
The thing about the temperature is fixed. It was a software error showing 5 degrees too much. So 26 in the display was really 21. On mine now 21-22 is ok in the Norwegian winter with -14 outside.
Okay. It is funny. I'm driving the XPower edition this week and this has the same problem.
Fantastic love it
Thanks for watching 😊
Is that fogging inside the left main light? If so that shows poor manufacture quality/quality management?
Fog in headlights is very normal in every car in Danish climate…
@@jimirosa I do not agree.
If the headlight seal is quality made, no fogging must happen under any weather! What will happen when it rains if it fogs up during cold time?
I am planing on buying MG4 when it becomes available here but this gives me doubts on how the car is made. Adding the problems eith floor panels bending I saw in other videos.
My friend took a 32 grand black MG model in Scotland.. it’s fine … the trunk/boot is too small for my liking … they are fast .. and charge fast … you can get these in Scotland via Mobility for disabled and elderly … a Two grand upfront payment..for the long range model … Technology of cars is moving faster … stopping noise …petrol and diesel contaminants …will help clean up cities dramatically… now we look at clean Electricity Production and sadly oil dependency of Arab nations will render them …. Poorer … when oil is not in high demand…
Bless
Thanks for your inputs and for watching 👍😊
Hi did you have winter tyres on the car ?
Yes 😊
@@jimirosa Hi. thanks for video. what winter tire MG using as a stock winter tire? time to change summer tire on my MG4 to winter but its seems to be a chellenge to find proper winter EV tire with less sound and high fuel efficiency . proper designed EV tires are very expensive .
Second Generation NISSAN LEAF ZE1 does have a Heatpump which is why its better EV
The MG4 (exept Nordic edition) had the heatpump as standard
What other ev are you comparing this to. ?
Kia Niro EV and ID. 3
It would be great to see a comparison against the Cupra Born (effectively ID3 with tweaks I know)
If the heating is not enough for you in -4 to -10C, how about in real winter with -25 and colder?
My Mazda diesel works great, my old Opel petrol car works great
I haven't had the opportunity to drive the car in colder conditions, but drove 4 electric cars to Nordkapp exactly one year ago. You can find the videos here on the channel.
No problem in Tesla, Skoda and Hyundai 👍😊⚡️🔋
Disagree about the looks - the car looks really good. One of the best looking medium sized EVs.
You are of course well within your rights to think what you want, just as I am 😉
God Yule from the UK ☺️
Mange tak og i lige måde 👍😉
There bin an update in the system. All things about laneass, are good now.
Hi there. Unfortunately, I don't agree with that. I revisited the car on my Danish channel a week ago, and the systems are still miserable.
To turn off the traction control (ESC). Swipe down from the top of the home screen and it's there on the left. I have yet to see anyone drive this car properly.
You sound like it is an M3 Competition 😂👍
@@jimirosa maybe, but I have been stuck in a front wheel drive car for years, my MG4 is being delivered in March. I was hoping to see someone slide it at least alittle before I get mine.
In Australia we have 7 year unlimited KM warranty
Unfortunately we have to settle for 7 years and 150,000 km here in Denmark
It look a lot better then the bud ugly VW ID3,ID4,ID5, BMWi3, etc
I agree 👍😊
No heat pump is a show stopper for me and anybody that lives in a country where average winter temperatures are below say 10 deg c.
There is a heat pump in the car. Only the Nordic edition that uses PTC heater 😊
Hmm does it not at all come with a heatpump in denmark??? This is the luxury spec list in Norway.
Aerodynamisk bakspoiler
Varmepumpe (heatpump) Oppvarmede forseter (heated seats in front)
Oppvarmet skinnratt (heated steering wheel)
360 graders kamera
Navigasjon i sanntid
MG Pilot med BSD / RCTA/ DOW
Trådløs lading
6-veis justerbart førersete
Batterilading med forvarming (preheating battery)
As I say in the video, the cheaper Nordic Edition does not come with a heat pump but the Luxury line does 👍😊
It's wonderful ev MG vehicle. 👍👍🦓🦊🐕🐷🍋🍊
Yes. Absolutely 👍😊
Just wondering why all MG cars have a disproportional wheel size. Every model looks underwheeled. Look at MG ZS EV or the MG marvel. Looks really weird.
I totally agree. the cars look like something from the nineties, when the wheels were generally smaller
No have rear wiper. T T
As many other Unfortunately…
At the beginning it was stated that the WLTP figs were 435km of range at 166W/km. Later in real world driving it was 250 W/km. That's a huge difference. Also, the batteries are NCM and thus it is recommended that charge is either 80 or 90% maximum and discharge is not less than 5%, further reducing range. Thus max range of 211 Km in those conditions. Pathetic. My Mazda 2 gets 1000km on 44 li of diesel. Why on earth would I want an EV?
The 250 wh/km was wit heavy motoreay driving at 130 km/h
You’re Mazda wont do that great under those conditions.
After owning 30+ ICE Cars (BMW, Audi and so on) i am not going back to fossil fuels 😊
Fedt koncept Jimi. Godt engelsk også. Motorvej ja freeway eller highway... Good luck.🤗😉
Thanks mester 😊
250 w/km? Damn.
Wh/km
I like more the cheaper standard edition with smaller but LFP !! battery ,unkillable...
Yes. But in cold climate the heat pump is very Nice to have…
10:58 yes American kids can be quite large
I imagine that large kids can be found everywhere 😊
Turn off the traction control and show what it can do!
At first glance, it doesn't seem like that's an option, unfortunately
To turn off the traction control (ESC), swipe down from the top of the home screen and it's on the left.
The guy looks and sounds like Christoph waltz.
Except that Christopher Waltz is more than 20 years older than me, I take that as a huge compliment 😉
*****👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 😊
The good news it's cheaper and cheaper, a demo with 15km on the clock asked A$27000 drive away with 10 year warranty. 😥😥😥
It’s crazy.
Here in Denmark prices also decline. Bit EV’s are now Selling more Then Ice Cars
@@jimirosa
It’s not happening in Australia, BEV only contributed less than 7% of sales.
It’s cute that he thinks
Here in Denmark it is 😉
@@jimirosa fair enough!!!
Too bad it isn't available in USA
I hope You will get it 👍😊
@@jimirosa ❤
I really like that colour but unfortunately it’s also the same colour as all the utility vehicles of my local council/authority. So this would be the same colour as refuse trucks, road repair trucks, council vans, cars, drain clearance machinery. It would just blend into the background.
And those awful rear spoilers in the top spec., which actually decrease the range by 16km due to increased drag. Not much form and function thrown out the window.
Thanks for the inputs and for watching. Arr you sure about the spoilers. F.eks Skoda and Hyundai claims that their spolers decrease drag…
