      NA flat sixes will always be better than turbos, but these definitly sound way better than the Ford GTs v6! Btw. love your videos!

    • @TacticalCardboard
      @TacticalCardboard 7 лет назад +4

      Not sure this is turbo, and reading this comments section it seems no one seems to know for sure either. Really confusing, but I think it's NA, it has waay too much of a howl for a turbo. You don't need a turbo to be competitive in GTE.
      Remember, the big thing with the new RSR is pushing the engine forward to make room for the larger 2016+ GTE diffuser, which wouldn't fit with the engine in the original location. If you figure that, then the side intakes in the fenders doesn't seem so odd. Also, not sure if the rules have changed (I remember the 458 caused this fuss) but remember Corvette ran the ZR1 as their GTE car once they moved out of GT1 - purely because the ZR1 had a few advantages over the Z06 for the regulations, namely that it was wider.

      Empty Box from what I've heard is all porsches after 991 will have turbos. I think it was the smoking tire or "drive" that had an episode about this.

      For me that sound is a combination of the old NA flat-six sound and the sound/pitch of the new Ford GT - so I'm guessing it's definitely turbo-charged in a similar way. It's not like Porsche has much choice, they need the torque and efficiency to stay competitive.

      MrCookieMonster no. what ? the two cars could be for LMGTE Pro or LMGTE Am, professional and amateur respectively. WEC is a championship with 4 classes, LMP1, LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am. I think that they're definitely for the pro category, as GTE Am is not allowed to use the latestcar, only last year's one.

  • @Bergh223
    @Bergh223 7 лет назад +5

    I still cannot believe Porsche was able to lobby to get their mid-engine car approved for GTLM. I am assuming it won't be allowed in FIA GT3 regs, but still. They dont have a road going 911 with this lay out, they shouldn't be able to race this.

    • @C42ST3N
      @C42ST3N 7 лет назад

      Look at the Ford GT and than complaining about the Porsche again. The GT3 and GTE cars getting more and more special and share less parts with a street car than ever before. Thats how it goes and thats why the series will be band in the future. Same story happend to group 5, group C, old DTM etc.

    • @Bergh223
      @Bergh223 7 лет назад

      I hear ya, but why does history repeat itself? When I look at the ford GT, I see a mid engine 6 cyl twin turbo like the road car. I know the Vette's have a bespoke engine to satisfy the 5.5L max capacity rule (which is not the 6.2L in the road car), but the layout is the same. I am expecting Porsche to Dominate this year, until everyone else gets a waiver to do something different (BMW racing a non hybrid i8?), and the field is level again.

    • @X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X
      @X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X 7 лет назад +8

      GT3 is the - old - customer racing class, established in 2005. The cars got much faster thanks to the manufacturer's interest in selling new racecars. With the soft technical regulations and BoP in place, big and aerodynamically well-balanced cars, like the Bentley or the BMW, are superior. With rising costs and no works team allowed, I suppose this series won't hold up for many years, GT4 may take its place.
      LMGTE is the works class. Since the gap between the customer GT3 cars and the works GTE cars was too small - and manufacturers wanted to prove new concepts - the 2016 regulations allow for greater modifications, e. g. changing the engine placement slightly. The Ford GT is a reverse-engineered GT car: It is obvious it was a racecar first, with street-legal examples sold to allow competition in GT racing (like Maserati did with the lovely MC12 back in 2004). The next Corvette may also be mid-engined. BoP is in full effect in LMGTE as well, so no manufacturer will dominate. Sadly, we will a lot of sandbagging in the races before Le Mans.
      This all being said, manufacturers are a big threat to any racing series. While it's nice to see big names in a series, their true motivation is publicity, and they are willing to ruin any series in the process: group 1, ITC, old GT1, possibly LMP1-H, etc.

      Sorry... , when I said GT2 means GTE.
      But are you sure ? because FIAWEC GTE and IMSA GTLM are the same. On the movie seems to have some difference between black and white. That's why I'm guessing one is GT3 and other is GTE.

      The GT3 R isn't being re-designed. These are both for GTE/GTLM. There are slight regulatory differences between the two, I imagine Porsche is trying to fit as much car as they can between the margins.

    Beautiful car, weird to see dual exhaust not coming out directly from the center though for a Porsche. Too bad their factory team drivers race like assholes, still rooting for anyone but them

      no they just moved the engine a bit further to the middle. so not really mid engine. they had to make some room for the rear diffusor

      Enzo Ardente i did some research, and the engine is in front of the rear axle. So I guess its classified as a mid engined car.

    I Gotta say, I love your Videos. I'm a big fan! I make compilation videos where I take clips from other videos add some information, do my own voiceover and then play music over them. I was just wondering if I could have your permission to use 20 seconds max of this video. Obviously, the link will be in the description and all credit will be rewarded to you. If you are not sure, check out my channel and read the description of my recent videos an see what I mean
