Wonderful to see these old toys restored and ready to face another 70 or 80 years' enjoyment! There was a real art to creating a durable working toy from so few parts.
Those trolls who give thumbs down should be restored to the dump site where they exist. Nothing but a wonderful job restoring a great toy of the past. Always amazes me to see the finished product. Great job.....again. Thanks for sharing.
I did some sandblasting when I worked at a body shop for a spill. Some days I would spend over four hours blasting away at rust and corrosion on frames and under carriages...ha hahaa, brings back memories.
I found one exactly like that in the upstairs of my grandma's house when my grandma moved out of (and abandoned) the old house in the 1960's. When I was a little older, I figured it had to have belonged to my dad's younger brother when he was a child, and I gave it to him, as I thought it should belong to him This one looks so EXACTLY like the one I found, the same missing parts, and all. I'm so tickled to see this video. :)
Great resto TRG! Gotta be careful with the older toys and sandblasting. Always check if it is leaded paint first. You don't want lead particles blowing around from the blasting. Strip those first with chemical stripper then blast.
And ........ the media blaster. YAAAAAAAAAAAY! Oh, yeah, and how come you didn't pop some more tabs and take the cab apart before blasting and repainting?
it's not always needed. I like to sand the bare metal and apply the first coat of paint. once the first coat is out of the oven, you can always use it as a stand in for the primer and just sand it. primer is cheaper of course so if I was using a really high end powder I wouldn't do it that way. but as a general rule, if you can see that you probably won't need it, it's a good way to save time
Ive been looking at some old trucks and cars like this one and thinking about doing this with them for scenario pieces in a turn based dice game me and my friends came up with based in the fallout universe kinda like dnd but science and guns rather than magic and swords
Your oven goes to only 275*F. The paint should cure at ~ 375*F. How are you making that work? I'm very curious because I bought a similar oven, only to find that it maxes out at 275*, and now I'm afraid that I have a boat anchor. Nice job on this resto, as always, by the way.
Hmmm, not sure what kind you have, this one can get to around 375 on it's own. If you add a little ceramic wool to line it, you can get it well above 400.
You can over-coat it. Mainly all that will do is cause you to lose fine details. There's really no prescribed amount to use since powders can be slightly different, it's just something you get a fell for after you do it enough.
This is great until you get to "Time to Paint", and you powder coat them in garish, over bright colours. Why don't you use spray can paint, and get as close as possible to the original finish?

Ah! The paint baking camera shot! Very well done!
Love seeing the restoration of the old cars and trucks! First time I’ve seen a 3 piece axle.
Same here!

Probably “patina” fetishists. They hate it when everything isn’t left old and rusty.
I like the baking of the powder coat, watching the finish color appear... Like magic. 🙂
I am amazed that you can find replacement parts for something that old! Love the style of this thing!
Thanks! You can find anything on the internet lol
You have done it again, it's a beautiful restoration! It's fantastic that this oldie has been given a second life.
Thank you for bringing new life to these long forgotten toys.
You bet!
Woohoo! You showed the paint curing process I’ve been hoping for. Thank you, TRG! Another awesome restoration. Cheers, John
Glad you liked it!
1:51 It really is the best part. Aside from seeing the finished project.
Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yes of course, without the sandblasting "yeaaaaay" the video isn't complete... Nice restoration too.
Very Good job on that old relic from our past.
Thank You :)
Great job! What a fantastic-looking vehicle.
Lovely old simple toy, metal, durable and hours of fun for the youthful owner. Nicely done, sir very nicely done indeed.
Thank you! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Nice one! It always amazes me how you can take those old toys and make them look like new again. Glad to see you preserving history.👍👍
Glad you like them!
I generally dislike green for most things. But this finished project is phenomenal! Once again. Congrats.
Thank you!

lol it's soooo time consuming
Love the 16x speed on the sandblasting, and the time lapse of the paint was amazing!
Thank you so much 😀
Another toy truck saved from the scrap heap. There should be more people doing this sort of thing and posting their project videos on RUclips.
Seems like there are new copycat channels every day lol
Thank you for letting me know.
Any time!

@@TRGRESTORATIONS that makes me want one more, I could be super lazy and use it to clean every part of the house with one hand.

I do off camera. It's not a very exciting thing to film so it doesn't always make it in to the final edit.
Very nice!

Me: Sets playback to 0.25 speed.
lol nice!🖖🏽
You are light years a head of anybody that does this same thing on RUclips.
Thank you! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Where did the replacement front end come from. I have the yellow shell one and the truck is the same model.
Love your videos, but I wonder why you don't do a high build powder primer to fill all the pitting, then sand smooth before the color powder coating?
it's not always needed. @@TRGRESTORATIONS cool, thanks!
Yes, and also, why use powder coating? Nasty colours...
@my31and37 Yes, I wondered same thing since there's still lots of pitting showing thru afterwards on the roof and hood. Still loved the resto, though.

Не, ну это не ресторация, это покраска, а где выравнивание кузова и других элементов, смотрится же ведь не красиво, считаю эту вещь не завершенной.
