I had completely forgotten about the Tonka Roller until I saw the rusty thumbnail picture. Wow. I didn’t think this one could ever look that good. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hello Fellow restorer! I liked this Tonka coming back to life - those are so worth saving. I also tried my hand at couple of those restorations and they are so satisfying!
One of my trade school instructors (74-76) was a design engineer at Tonka in Minnetonka, MN way back in the 60's. Might have been on the start up team. I can't remember. I didn't have him for a class instructor. But, he was always in the shop showing young lads how to master the trades. He really loved tool and die work for metal and plastics. This was extra fun for me to watch. Thank you.
This has to be my favourite out of all your restorations, the love and workmanship you gave to the roller is commendable, it really is. In just a few minutes in watching your videos it’s a thumbs up every time. Now, I’m concerned you’ll run out of Tonka models to bring back to life, hope you something else to share. Best wishes from the UK.
This channel is grand. I am happy to see the trend going on where old cars and trucks I used to play with when I was a kid are being restored to their former glory.
Same here. I didn't even know people did toy restorations and now I can't stop watching. I think what makes them so satisfying is that we get the instant gratification of seeing it all happen in 20 minutes instead of over several episodes.
What amazes me is that I used to play with toys like these when I was a boy back in the 1950s I'm not surprised that children neglect their toys today.
I'm not into cars and stuff like this but I remember these toys from way back. Good you can bring them back to life. Everything is made cheaply these days. Great job.
I sure enjoy these Tonka restorations! I was always intrigued by the details of my neighbors Tonka toys that we played with when I was a kid. My family could never afford to buy me my own though.
Essential tools for a restoration... blasting cabinet, check... powder coating setup, check... dishwasher, check! 👍😊 It worked a treat. Really excellent restoration.
Just finished the Seabees earth mover and thought it was distressed, then saw this. Love that you rescue these pieces of history. From forlorn to fabulous!
I had a Tonka Toy collection as a child. The steam roller was my favorite. I passed them on to my son's and they to there s kids. I hope they know what they have. So little can mean so much. Ex. job on the restore. Thank You.
Dear Santa, at 55 years old, I realize I'm not a young kid anymore, but I've been extra extra good this year, so could you put this under my tree this year? It's been too long since I've played with a Tonka toy.
I am so impressed. All that work really paid off. I remember wanting one of these as a child in the 70's but alas ... too expensive for my pocket money.
memory is a strange thing... I can now vividly remember pulling the cab off the one I had and putting it back on (no clear plastic). This vid. was a gift I can't thank you enough for.
My 3 year old discover restoration today. Wanted to watch with me. Was captivated. I wish you would narrate what was happening and the tools used to I can start these projects next summer with him.
Man it's been a while since I've seen such a rusty Tonka! I usually prefer them in original condition, but this one definitely needed and deserved a restoration. It looks amazing now!
I stumbled upon this and let me tell you. It brings me back to when I was a kid. You do amazing work. I would love to hear one of these narrated just to hear your thoughts and history beyond the repair. Thanks for sharing your craft.
I remember when Sears sold these big time. I am 59 years old now, but seeing you restore these very trucks I used to play with when I was a little boy, it's like me taking a trip back in time to the 1960s and early 1970s. Thanks to you, many others are following suit.
Excellent work, very enjoyable to watch the video. The professional work, the cleanliness, the accuracy, a great video of the renovation art! And this road roller, oh, if I had a roller like that when I was a kid ... Thanks for a great video with a funny ending

Toy restoration should really be more of a thing than it is. Imagine having a toy with all these memories, restoring it to pass it to the next generation so it can continue to accumulate more memories of good time. The world needs more objects with such positive energy concentrations but they all end up getting tossed away...

Question #2. Do you sell off any pieces and if so, where can I find them for purchase? & Question #3.Do you ever measure the hours it takes to complete a job? I mean with this one, it looks like it took a large amount of time... With filler drying, all the sanding etc. I'd like to know how long the projects take. Bonus statement. You are awesome! You easily got my subscribe and thumbs up!!
+Fred Bosco thanks! Most of the things I restore are put on a shelf in my man cave room. But here lately most of the tonka trucks have been swiped by my 10 year old daughter and filled with Barbies lol. Time spent for this project, not counting drying time overnight, but if I were working somewhere and put it in terms of billable hours, I’d say about 20 hours total. Some of that is spent messing with camera equipment and lighting and trying to find good filming angles though.
+Bob Short not sure. Switched to an aluminum oxide for this project. Couldn’t tell if it was that, or if the thing was so rusted that it just didn’t show well on video. Guess we’ll see on the next project.
Nice to see someone who clearly takes a lot of pride in their work and covers all the details like making sure the rivets color match
