1940s Marx Seversky P35 Toy Fighter Airplane Restoration

- I purchased this 1940s Marx Seversky P-35 Toy Fighter Plane on eBay November of 2020. It was missing the propeller and prop mount up front, the paint was basically gone and rusted away. The rear wheel had been replaced with a really poor rubber wheel. Overall this was a perfect restoration candidate. I made many new parts and nickel plated most of them. The propeller mount I made out of a tube and capped it then powder coated it. My sand blaster clogged up a little bit during filming and I had to take it all apart to clean it out. Thanks again for watching!

Recall seeing these in old advertisements back in the day when young men still thought about still being aviator's. You've done a splendid job on this.
I like to think that somewhere a little boy named Don in his 90's is seeing his precious toy plane restored with such care. Sure glad those sheep are on our side!
Paint the name "Don" in script on the underside of one of the wings?
Nice Restoration, I like old toys
@Josiah Colby Great
Goon one @Ray Wood
Just think way back that kid was flying missions against the Axis powers bringing freedom to war ravaged allied countries !!!
I love the way this video is done. Time laps where it fits, no long explanations, everything clearly and simply presented. And thanks for no music ...

I love seeing the "junkyard" and the ever growing line-up of restored toys. You've inspired me to pick up restoration as a hobby. Keep up the great work!
Me, too, and I love how they are towed to the project area.
@@sherylelkins201 ق
Love your toys restored , I'm 50 and these toys was still here and there when I was a kid . Wish I could have seen them new, but you do that. Thanks
J'aime bien tes restaurations elles sont toujours très professionnelles . Merci.
The pilot sheep was a very nice touch!
Yes it was
Seems kind of sheepish to me 🤣🤣🤣
@@rayhuntermusic Yeah, did you noticed the propeller didn't have the 30° angel? 😅
Your work is awesome! And I absolutely love those sheep!!!!
YOU DO A VERY AWSOME JOB ON THEM TOYS. THEY ARE SWEET.
Ok can we fire the towtruck driver for towing the plane from the front not the back! Just saying.. Outstanding restore!! Thanks for sharing..
I never realized a plane is supposed to be towed from the back, but it makes sense that it would be.
🤪🤣
Fair comment😊
Here's what really grinds me. Back in the day these toys were considered cheap because they were made of mostly pressed tin. Fast forward to today, and the toymakers claim that it would be too expensive to use pressed tin today, even though manufacturing methods have improved. I'm calling B.S. these toy companies just don't want things to last anymore.
Heh! Just realized that the sheep at the end had a pilot's hat on. Good show! Merry Christmas.
I love the sound of the grinder...
The designer of that airplane is looking down on you and saying, “Now that’s how I wanted it made. Thank you!”
It’s over there, Kitty.
Ufur
Love it! I'm one of the sheep. The goggles on the "pilot" was a nice touch. Beautiful kitty too.
Baaaaaaaaaa
Beaker knows you do such a good job she doesn't need to look any more. Just like, "I'm sure it's great, where are my scritches?"
I just picked up this same toy earlier today from a local toy dealer. The plane has the usual nicks and scratches on the paint, with just a bit of surface rust. It's missing the rear tire under the tail, but the plane has no dings or dents, and everything else is there. I spent an hour cleaning the orange nicotine residue off of the plane (previous owner must have been a smoker), which made the paint much brighter once I was finished. Overall, it's in pretty decent condition. I was pretty excited to see that you have a video restoring this very same plane! Once again, an absolutely beautiful restoration.
Enjoyed you restoring this airplane. Great job.
It looked like the sheep had a free ride on this one. And the cat wasn’t interested at all. Funny!
grt work...I'm 45 yrs...still I wish if I could have it...I could play
I was absolutely PRAYING for a sheep at the end and my prayers were answered. He even had little goggles and a hat! 🥲💗this is by far one of my favorite videos from you (that was some sexy sandblasting, as weird as that sounds). This is such a wholesome channel and the care you put into these restorations shows. Amazing as always 🥰
I love to watch you restoring these old toys
Wow , fantastic restoration airplane project , my friend !👍🏆👏👏👏🥇✌️🎩👌
always great to see someone rescuing & restoring toys that otherwise might not ever be seen again-good job!!!
Wonderful work restoring beloved toys of childhood.
Great restoration. I've seen a couple where the restorer started with a plane that was plain silver ( as were most planes in those days ) and painted it all kinds of gaudy colors. The work was good but it didn't look right to me in the end. Glad to see that you kept it the same colors.
Always amazed by your restauration, and problem-solving skills. Again, I'm glad you perfectly brought back to life such a wonderful toy.
Ready to fly again through the skies of imagination. Excellent!
I've watched a couple other restore guys. I have to say your attention to detail is far superior.
I am actually beginning to have my doubts about a couple of _other_ channels (not here--too much detail and actual work). It seems that rust patterns, e.g., from item to item are too strangely consistent, and there are other elements on those channels that whisper "faux restore." Anyone else have misgivings like this?
Thank goodness Chip Channel's around. I get such a relaxed feeling watching and appreciating.
BTW, the sandblasting changes the metal to a buff-white. Is this straight tin or some other alloy? Anyone know?
@@josepherhardt164 Probably mild steel. The finish you get from media blasting depends on the media used. It looks like he is using either garnet or aluminum oxide media, which has sharp corners and edges which will give that buff white look. Glass beads give a duller look. There is also ground up walnut shells and corn cob media, but I've never used those.
@@TheCoffeehound Thanks! :)
I'm taking it for granted that all your old rusty toys are either donated or given locally or you find yourself. Either way I really enjoy watching your site. Thanks.
11:59 “Made in the USA” on the bottom of the wings. Geez, I can’t remember the last time I saw that on a toy. Anyway, great job as always!
My parents always told me to stay away from cheap toys made in Japan... they‘re shoddy, not woth the money. 😄
I can’t remember the last time I saw that on damn near anything!
@JD PLVY Time stamp Added.
@@jamesmilos9909 japanese toys are not cheap
You mean the town USA, Japan?
Wow ... The plane is back to the condition that some lucky kid saw it on Christmas Morning , would be cool to have some one that owned one to see this , thanks for restoring these great example of when America was great and actually.made things of value.
You have such patience and talent but the right tools always makes it easier
Fantastic restoration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably one of the first metal monoplane toys.
Just like it was fresh out of the box on Christmas
No
I think your lil inspector approves. Nice wrk
A very good job, it's a beautiful plane....
What a great restoration. The restorer is an artist!
Back when getting toys was a big deal. no phones, no TV's, no tablets just pure imagination.
But there's nokia
🎄🎄🎄thank you🎄🎄🎄
Feliz es fiestas priceza bella tu like 😇 👸 ♥️ 🎶 👸 👸 👸 👸 👸 👸
Nice job and I liked the nickel plating. Can’t help thinking how good the whole plane would have looked in shiny nickel. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Can't complain: cat 😁 , also great restoration.
I so hoped the “whoops!” With the flying pin would end up with the sheep being skewered and saying “I’m ok” 😂🤣
Love the little repetitive humor most of all💕
Hi mister chip channel beautiful restoration good job well done
I just finished a 1/72 scale model of the Seversky P-35 and it was fantastic to see you bring the toy back to a just out of the box appearance. I was amazed at how it captured the significant form of the actual aircraft. Love the TLC that you display in your restoration.
Been binge watching your channel. You do an amazing job of restoration. The right tools help and unfortunately most home hobbyist don't have Lathe, CNC and Mig or Tig welders at their disposal. Kudos on you. The only detail I noticed you missed on this one is the new propeller you made did not end up with a pitch on the blades, of course it is just a toy!
You do amazing work! That said you should wear gloves to protect your hands.
Beautiful restoration. From broken old toy to artwork.
I really enjoy these toy restoration videos -- and even more so when they involve fabricating new/replacement parts. Excellent work!
I don’t think I’ve ever said “sweet” so much watching a build. It’s because of all the hand made parts. Lol 🙂🖖🏻❤️
Ready to fly. Keep them coming
love to watch these while i eat my morning cereal
Impressive restoration: "Pride of the US Army Air Corp"

Wow, look at all of those restorations. My daddy’s rich!
I appreciate the decal on the sand blaster. I get so absorbed in the restoration and what is coming up next I forget to hit the like button! The decal reminds me.
Nice job Sir
Great job, Sir! You need to bend your prop .. 🛩🛩
Great project well done.
Excellent bro heart touching restoration
Beautiful work👍👍👍👍👍
I love the pink primer
The Seversky P-35 is an American fighter aircraft built by the Seversky Aircraft Company in the late 1930s. A contemporary of the Hawker Hurricane and Messerschmitt Bf 109, the P-35 was the first single-seat fighter in United States Army Air Corps to feature all-metal construction, retractable landing gear, and an enclosed cockpit. Seversky later became Republic Aircraft of Long Island, New York.
That garbage truck and the one next to it with the headlights look interesting.
Edit: Also this was a fun restoration for you. I enjoy seeing the old planes getting a chance to be nice again.
This toy didn't have the same retractable landing gear, the World War 2 British Spitfire has.
Very nice!
That toy is so cool.Wow!!
Thank you for finding my plane. Please return it at your early opportunity.

Beautiful job!
This is sledgemaster. I love ur show. I learn alot. The last one I seen was when u redone a dump truck. God bless and we here at home like ur clean show

Feline flyer + sheep co pilot+ perfect ✈️ 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁!!
ME ENCANTA LO QUE HACES!!!! Y HASTA TE COPIO ALGUNAS COSAS. MUCHAS GRACIAS.
This is your second plane and it is just as successful as the first, the engine with its propeller, manufactured from scratch, is superb
I’m glad to see someone who cares about the past to
Beautiful job 👍. Here’s a bit of airplane history or trivia. Seversky founded by a European aeronautical engineer went on to be a part in the design of the “follow on” to the P-35 which came about during that period of time when aviation technology was rapidly changing. The follow on was the P-43 Lancer and later came the P-47 Thunderbolt which was produced by Republic. Sit these 3 aircraft side by side and the family resemblance is apparent. Especially with the earlier P-47’s that had the glazed (Aluminum) canopy frames and not the “Perspex” tear drop shaped canopy.
Wow another great restore. Think I would add two more decals to either side of the fuselage behind the cockpit. I never cease to be amazed by your talent. Congrats!!
Thats a huge restoration backlog.
The plane is ready to fly again thanks to you
That little wing in the back is kinda shape like a little fat bird. That funny
You are so great bro. Love from Bangladesh🇧🇩

Fantastic job!
The only difference between this treat and my usual treats is no calories 😊😊😊🎅🏻👍🏼
I always enjoy your projects you pay such attention to detail
Nicely done.
Votre Serversky P-35! A retrouvé sa splendeur du début, avec une belle restauration c'est un patrimoine du jouet américain de plus sauvé de la poubelle? Bravo pour votre travail remarquable. Un abonné de France! 😉👍🛩

Nice color 👍
Excellent work. I especially like how the wheels and propeller pop.
Nice color!!
Thank you so much for putting this up again. I really enjoyed it!😊
The Seversky P-35 is one of my favorite airplanes. If your curious check out a real one being restored by Kermit Weeks in Florida. Worth checking out.
Me too!!! So happy to hear that 1) there's an extant P-35 being restored, and 2) that there are other P-35 fans out there!!
