It's so weirdly satisfying to learn Mayneth's original name so long after Xenoblade 1. I vaguely recall wondering about it once, but now we finally know. Nice to meet you, Galea.
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO WAS WONDERING THAT! Ever since I played the first game back in 2015, I've really wanted to know Mayneth's real name for lore summarizing reasons, but the game only said Zanza's real name. When Xenoblade 2 came out I jokingly though to myself "I really hope that we learn what Mayneth's real name is" but when I got to this scene, I freaked out because I didn't think that they were actually going to reveal it!

There were hints in some of the side quests in XC1.
i still consider this the best cutscene of any video game i have ever played. nothing will ever match how loud i shouted when i heard him say "we're locked out by professor klaus"

If Ontos and Alvis are defo the same being, the 96% Sync Rate on the Trinity Processor might be part of the reason he doesn't recall the event exactly. If the sync rate includes data sync, then 4% of the data is lost during the experiment meaning a portion of data was lost during the experiment. It could mean Ontos/Alvis knows the general gist of the story but not the full story due to missing data.
Chrono Pinoy X Oh, that’s a really interesting take on the event! I can’t believe I never thought about that.
Alvis didn't say the 96% of the story, he said the 10%
He missed many details not just the 4%
If it was the 4% he would have forgotten about minor stuff, like Galea's name
The synch rate isn’t the memory, it’s the execution of the phase transition experiment. Ontos wasn’t properly synced to logos and pneuma like they were to each other, so that’s why they stayed in the original world, and Ontos disappeared into the new one.
@@haru.4267 Indeed. I feel ashamed for never noticing the possibility. I rewatch this cutscene all the time.
Also consider that, back then, the Trinity processor was just a way to contain the Conduit, after the creation of the new Universe the processor was repurposed but not in the Blade form of XC2, then there was an experiment where Klaus split in a phase transition event and Alvis got caught and could not change in the way Pneuma and Logos did. The context is to understand that Alvis recalls much of the events, which is quite remarkable, but chances are that the interpretation of the events are more influenced by the data he obtained from Klaus/Zanza and whatever information he could have from the birth of the new universe. Worth observing that neither Pneuma or Logos recall the event and seek their “father” for answers enforcing the idea that back then, the trinity processor was not really “aware” of what was happening and the evolution into sentient beings happened first with Alvis and perhaps after the losing Ontos, Klaus decided to repurpose Logos and Pneuma into their Blade form without telling them what happening in the very beginning...
You can feel Klaus' desperation and sadness in his voice, poor guy wanted to change the world, and was punished for it
He messed with things beyond his understanding he got what he deserved
@@ontos8914 Well he tried to save humanity But In doing so destroyed his world There was A war going on and he wanted to stop It he wanted peace But ended up getting Slapped in the face When the experiment went Wrong and The war Probly Made him go mad I mean he probly lost friends through the war thousands of people's lives He thought he could save them But ended up destroying his world And splitting his body into 2 1 good And 1 evil The good one regretted his actions The evil one was arrogant And Malicious Selfish Had a God complex. This man has gone through so much So him trying to save humanity may be foolish But at least he tried With a good cause Because he tried to save humanity Even though the world was near its end
while he wanted to save humanity from its violence and selfishness, he ultimately decided to do so the exact same way. he was pretty much being the asshole "both sides are idiots" centrist that thought he knew the definitive answer to a complex system of war and misery. he was probably hoping that all problems would end when people realized they have infinite universes to harvest from, but jumped to conclusions and acted foolishly despite it clearly not being safe to activate the conduit. yeah, his intentions were mostly pure, but it was his own selfishness and impatience that ultimately ended the world (though the saviorites would've likely done the same if they won the fight and had access to the conduit).
that's probably why half his body became zanza; he was being forced to watch a version of him that only saw the part of his gut feeling actually working, being rewarded by becoming a god in his own universe, while the architect that was left with nothing but guilt over endangering billions of lives in other dimensions realized what he was really going to do when granted such immense power as gratification. it's a brutal punishment but something he had to learn to atone for through creating alrest and would eventually be relieved of through the death of zanza, who was ironically killed by someone nearly identical to him yet was better and smarter than zanza could ever be

Does anyone else think the lighting in this scene makes Klaus look a bit like Juju?
That aside, this cutscene was absolutely mind-blowing and a fantastic connection to the first game. Gotta love that music too.
Theaggyyu
Especially with the fact that we now know why he was trying to do it. In the first game, it appeared to be a simple matter of Hubris, but here, it becomes very clear that, as foolhardy as his actions may have been, he had a reason to believe it must be done.
Yes! They did a really great job of humanising a character we previously thought of as a deluded mad scientist and a simple big bad for the first game.
New Xenoblade theory: the conduit turns the ones who use it into Juju.
But aside from that I wasn't that surprised by the cutscene since we see the earth being "reseted" when Rex obtain the third Aegis' sword.
So what you're saying is that Juju is the conduit and thus the ultimate entity powering not only the Xenoblade universe, but the Xenoblade 2 universe as well? Sounds accurate.
Yes, he does look like juju...and that frightens me
“You’re delusional. Divine entity? The Conduit is nothing more than a meta-universe manifold!”

This aged wonderfully.
The range of emotions I feel watching this is unbelievable
This is the base for everything. The inciting event for everything. Don’t ask me how they did that, but it ties XC2 not only into the confirmed XC1 universe, but also gives threads to connect to XCX, Xenogears, and Xenosaga. ALL IN THE SAME GODDAMN 5 MINUTES
wait wait, how is this suppose to connect XCX? please tell me
I have a couple theories. For one, the XCX opening has a silhouette of what looks like the First Low Orbit Station before the Earth explodes. Second: I'm willing to bet that Core Crystals came from Mimeosome technology, since Klaus ssid the original tech was developed by humans to maintain immortality and to replace human brain cells. Finally, many species on Mira reference seeing a flash of light before being sent to Mira, and since the Conduit (aka Zohar) is well known for sending people to different dimensions and planes of existence, suggesting that when Klaus activated the Zohar, the destruction of Earth sent several species to the Mira dimension, where it is likely planets function differently. There are flaws with this theory, but a lot of it can be solved by understanding the Zohar is an object from the 4th dimension, bending both space and time. As a matter of fact it has to for XC1 and XC2 to coexist as they do
pretty reasonable your theory, I would like to see more of it, is really interesting, thanks
Super Battle Bros that’s theory is actually pretty plausible
I’m working on a theory which ties all 7 Xeno games together. But that’s on hiatus until I finish the Xenosaga series.

Crazy to think that Future Redeemed made this cutscene even better.
The song used in this cutscene, "The Decision", was fittingly composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. Pretty poignant given this scene is a huge homage or tie-in to the entire Xeno series lore with the Zohar present.
I mean, it's a great song but being composed by him isn't particularly special since a majority of the soundtrack is as well. He's been the headlining composer for every Xeno game, excluding Saga II, III, and Blade X.
@@PerkyPyra Mitsuda didn't do the music for X. Hiroyuki Sawano did the entire OST for X.

Huge congrats to Adam Howden for his amazing performance that, although short, had every XC1 player on the edge of their seat. I literally *screamed* when Klaus' name was mentioned and when I heard his voice my excitement doubled
Absolutely. But his performance isn't really that short. He has the longest monologue in the game (as the Architect)
One of the best cutscenes ever especially with that Xenoblade 1 throwback Klaus
More than a throwback.
Can't wait until Xenoblade 3 when we meet Galea's asshole side as a diety and somehow we realize that's a Zohar-shaped vending machine and the conduit is behind it.
I think Galea's asshole side is the big monster with the ID card that Rex and Co defeated at Morytha
Galea, unlike Klaus, was never split in half, so I doubt we'd see that
There are new rumors for xc3, I am really excited for it when it comes out
@@0isthe1 I find it weird the rumors are just now taking off when we have had bigger hints than Melia's voice actor saying she "think(s) there's another one in the works" for a while. The composer did a massive recording session for a project he couldn't reveal earlier this year. The voice actress rumor could just be hearsay echoing itself, but the composing thing shows Monolift has SOMETHING in the works.
There's also just the fact that even releasing a definitive edition that hints at a bigger storyline makes no sense if there's not a new game in the works.
@@DairunCates Personally I just hope we can get a Xenosaga port for switch, it doesn’t have to be remastered or revoiced although that would be awesome , the only thing I would want from the port is to be uncensored I want to see that cutscene in English of that psycho dude ripping his head off
Inconsistency in that XBC1?
...not quite actually... what we have here is a case of unreliable narrator.
When we saw XBC1's interpretation of this scene, we were seeing it from Alvis or Meyneth's perspective which showed Klaus in a more negative light. They saw him as Zanza. Not Klaus.
This is from Klaus's perspective. Wherein he's justifying his actions.
But there is only one true way in what it happened though.
I think I'm siding more with this version since Alvis probably didn't know all the details and also it gave us more context.
Dukemon
Yeah, not to mention this interaction.
Pyra; “Father, you...”
Klaus; “I was a fool.”
Klaus is not justifying his actions back then at all.
Malos; “What does it mean, Logos?”
Klaus; “It has no meaning, all it represents is the ego of those who named you.”
I don't understand why people think XC1's version is from Alvis' perspective. Alvis is a computer and a higher power than Klaus, he wouldn't have faulty memories nor would he have missed anything. Alvis would know the full context of the moment. Alvis is shown to have full knowledge of everything going on in XC1 since very early in the game we see signs that he wants to push Shulk towards the path of overcoming Zanza in order to prevent the world from stagnating.
It's a retcon. Unless there's a source that directly confirms the claim that Alvis was an unreliable narrator. (otherwise it is simple speculation.)
If Alvis is a computer and has no memory faults, that means Klaus was the unreliable narrator. Which makes sense when you consider that this version has him trying to justify his actions.

Did Malos or Mythra have clear memories of the transition event?
No, they didn’t.

MEEEEEEEEE
I lost my shit when I saw this scene, and I fucking died when I saw Alvis' necklace in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
It just hit me how Xenoblade and Xenosaga are connected, and I am ashamed I did not realize it sooner. In Xenosaga, something happened to Earth, it just disappeared, and they now call it Lost Jerusalem, but the reason why the whole world disappeared and where it went too is unknown. This game might be what happened, it might have been scattered across many different alternate universes, with the world itself settling in the Xenoblade chronicles 2 universe. And who knows, maybe what Klaus did at the end returned the world to it's original place in the Xenosaga universe, and we might have a sequel where they come into contact with other humans, could be fascinating. I mean, Kos-Mos has an appearance in this game, so it would be cool to think that is not just a cameo and that there will be more explanation next game.
@goremaniac Likely after the events of Xenosaga and Xenogears, after all, Lost Jerusalem remained 'lost' through to the end of the story that is known there. Very easily could see Lost Jerusalem/Earth reappearing a couple centuries or a couple thousand years after those events played out which could make for an interesting Xenosaga sequel

The fact that XC1’s cutscene number for Alvis’ retelling of this scene is 157 and this is cutscene 158...it’s almost unreal.
Edit: I just checked it again and it says it's actually not 157 and instead 154. Either the number changed for some reason or more likely my dumbass read it wrong. Sorry for misinformation.
Who’s here after XC3 announcement?
Imagine if we get a third version of this scene for some reason lmfaoooo
Probably. The worlds of XC1 and XC2 are connected because of Klaus and his experiment.
I love this scene so much. It's great self-contained, but also gives more insight to Zanza as a character and villain. It explains why he thought so little of the Homs, as they resembled humans too much, yet he still let them live and evolve because he still had just a sliver of hope for them.
That cutscene alone was the biggest plot twist of the game to me. I SUSPECTED that there would be similarities between Xenoblade 1 and 2 in terms of overarching themes and perhaps some plot points, but I never even thought it possible that they actually were linked together canonically speaking.
I still remember, back when we were waiting for Xenoblade Chronicles X, when the devs said that the original game and that game were NOT sequels and took place in different universes, and I felt so goddamn dissapointed.
I thus expected the same for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, especially when the devs said the only reason it's named 2 is because both of those Xenoblade games are those which are focused on being a linear singleplayer storyline focused rather than having multiplayer features and a more "open ended" open world like Xenoblade Chronicles X.
What I like about this connection is that it's still true that Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 do not take place in the same universe. In fact, 2 still technically isn't a sequel since they occur at the same time, just in parallel worlds. With this connection, both games can have their own stories, without being restricted by the other's story. They are part of a multiverse that satisfyingly ties the games together, but leaves more than enough freedom for the devs to write the story they want.
In a way, this reminds me of the Legend of Zelda timeline, in which there is the timeline split which the devs did explicitly say was partially there because it left more freedom for their storylines, since they dislike the idea of being restricted because of the various events that occured in a particular timeline. Just like for Xenoblade 1 and 2, the Zelda games are nicely tied together through that timeline, but it is constructed in such a way that each game can have its own storyline (apart from the games that are explicit sequels like Majora's Mask of Phantom Hourglass), which is why, wherever it is placed in the Zelda timeline since we don't currently know, Breath of the Wild clearly is the furthest at the very least, in whichever branch it is - it allows much more freedom.
...
Did I just compare the storylines of the Xenoblade games and the Legend of Zelda series??? Looks like I did ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
> when the devs said that the original game and that game were NOT sequels and took place in different universes
And just like that, this got an entirely new meaning. Now knowing that the Zohar (Conduit) is able to bridge universes that open ups a shitload of possibilities on what happened to the worlds of Xenosaga and Xenogears
Until I reached this point, i was so sure that the Architect was Shulk. But i wasn't dissapointed when we understand that the connection between the two games is somewhere else (sorry for my bad english)
They said that the game was set in a "different world", never that they weren't connected. Very specific wording on their part.
who says, that there isn't story connection between XCX and the Xenoblade-games?
The games are literally happening parallel...
Meyneth and Infernal Guldo die at the same time
Dickson and Amalthus die at the same time.
The final battle with Malos happens simultaneously with the battle against Zanza (this is outright confirmed)

“Fools indeed. The time has come.”
This will probably always be my absolute favorite cutscene in Xenoblade. I can’t wait for Xenoblade 3!
So… you’re happy now 😊
@@diegogutierrezfernandez9488 Not OP, but oh yeah, we happy.
First seeing shots of the Beanstalk at the start of the cutscene: "I... I've seen this before? This isn't..."
Hearing "We're locked out by Professor Klaus" from one of the scientists: "No no no, no fucking way is this..."
Seeing Klaus open his arms and say "Let's begin the experiment.": "AHHHHHHHH!"
wasn't that just amazing? I don't think I'd had a rush that intense since the first time I saw a videogame.
As soon as I saw the beanstalk I knew it was gonne be the Klaus cutscene
So while Dimitri and the salvator faction (saviorites are mistranslated) was trying to take the fucking zohar, the ganglion and ghosts were at war outside. THEY FUCKING COOKED.

after playing through future redeemed, i now firmly believe at this point that this goddamn experiment will never leave this series, as being the very thing that will still shock everyone in multiple angles i stg LMAO
I can’t imagine its impact going away anytime soon for the franchise either.
The paradigm shift this caused left a footnote in the history of the universe in this story.
Its all from Perfect Works. The Earth disappearing, people colonizing different planets, the discovery of the Zohar in Africa, all of it. Im curious if the next Xenoblade world will still have this kind of connection
@@AstralXenSPOILERS FOR XENOGEARS & THE XENOBLADE SERIES BELOW
so i finished xenogears about 3 weeks ago & i'm going to say rn that i feel like the mainline xenoblade games in terms of characters & story (especially 3) are a reimagining of xenogears & its characters (i.e. fei/id = mythra/pyra, lacan = n & jin, miang = malos, etc), while xenoblade x is supposed to be a reimagining of perfect works as a concept. if anything, if xenoblade x gets a rerelease on switch or the switch 2, i can very much see monolith soft reimagining the game to match more of what they originally planned to do with the game + what they're probably planning to do now with the entire series after future redeemed. either way, i'm very much looking forward to how they continue the series moving forward
Y'know, I just noticed something.
A great reason why this game excels in its story is how intricately it can play with our emotions.
Well, I made it through the game before spoiling a lot of the plot. Huge Xenoblade fan, you know the drill. Waiting for that big revelation. So needless to say, the way the cutscene before this one killed the two characters off incited a rush of thoughts and emotion in me and made me feel weak and somewhat close to tears by the chapter's end.
It was exactly then, when I was at my most vulnerable, that I was struck by this *BOMBSHELL* of a cutscene.
My jaw practically hit the floor after witnessing how the lore crossed over. By the end of it I was in tears out of nothing but shock and awe and was practically shouting "what the f***" several times over at my TV screen. It was probably my most memorable gaming moment of this whole year.
This, my friends, is how to knock it out of the park when it comes down to the big reveal.
*This* is good writing!
Thank you Klaus, for being the madman and creating at least 2 fantastic worlds for us to explore! This cutscene is so amazing on so many levels.
Actually 3 or even more
@@rghennig1 True, friend from the future. Can't wait to play part 3, only a few weeks, today a direct. We will hear some new music from Mitsuda.

2:09 it looks like him but no it can’t be they wouldn’t
2:19 OH FUCKING GOD IT IS
i think basically had the same if not a similar reaction to this awesome scene
This is my favorite scene in the entire Xeno- meta series, and for obvious reason.
The Moment the Xenoblade Franchise surpasses the Final Fantasy Franchise (what in itself is a dying universe imo).
It's also nice how in this scene the character-designs look like the ones from the first Game
Lord Giles the character designs is how i knew this was from the original game.
They actually give an in-game explanation for the different artstyle in XC2 too interestingly. The majority of the races and people in the game are not humans the same way Klaus is. Rex and the other characters are actually evolutionary descendants of titans, having evolved into humanlike creatures after long millennia. Its part of the reason why a lot of the human races look so different.
zNapella yep, you are right
zNapella
And why Nopon have facial animations in 2, but only textures in 1.
What’s also ironic is that the very first Xeno game. Xenogears was originally intended to be a final fantasy game but was rejected for be to dark.
When Monolith makes every Xeno fan freak out in one cutscene
GUYS
THE MUSIC HERE
IT SYNCS WITH ZANZA THE DIVINE FROM XENOBLADE ONE
To this day I still cannot resist getting goosebumps to this cutscene my lord i will never forget how hard my jaw dropped when i first saw this scene
Anyone here after finishing XC DE? I'm just confused as to why in the ending cutscene the space station is still a satellite and not a beanstalk, that's the one thing I actually expected them to retcon besides Alvis' core crystal.
Out of universe I'm guessing they couldn't get Blake Ritson or Shizuma Hodoshima to record new lines.
In universe the war isn't important to whats going on and Alvis/Ontos left immediately after the experiment so he most likely assumed Klaus was sucked in completely. That and explaining the conduit and Trinity Core processors was not important to Shulk at all.
Alvis showed Shulk a quick simulation of the events, specifically, the part of Klaus that became Zanza, because their universe was about to die and Alvis needed Shulk to take a decision about the future (a world without gods).
It was also a mercy. Why would Ontos want to make Shulk feel more sympathy than necessary for the man he just killed? Why torment Shulk with the burden of everything Klaus and Galea had been through? What Alvis did show, and the explanation he did give, helped Shulk to understand enough. Anything more would have caused him and his friends unnecessary pain. Furthermore, the grief could have impaired his judgment or slowed it, which was a risk that Ontos could not afford to take.
@@hyliastone286 Or he had missing data Because who's to say When Klaus recreated the universe Might have fragment Alvis,s Memory Just saying
2:19 I wonder if the way Klaus has his arms stretched out is intended to be religious imagery, it's a similar pose to the Christian cross and it seems as if he is worshipping the Conduit and sees it as this divine figure, I know the Xeno series in general is no stranger to religious references.
Yeah, it's definitely intended. Cross shapes are all over the Xeno series, from people being literally crucified in Xenogears and Xenosaga to the cross-shaped Zohar/Lifehold/Conduit objects that appear in almost every Xeno game.
Such a good payoff. This still has to be one of my favorite cutscenes in video games period.
Still the craziest cutscene in all xenoblade series. I would love a game about this war. It really feels like Xenogears/Saga. Klaus could be the most interesting character.
AKA the HOLY S--- WHAAAAAT cutscene.
This is where it all started, great job Takahashi!
Now that I finally played Xenogears, you‘re telling me that all this time, this scene was just one big Xenogears callback?!
Always has been.
Dam now I gotta play Xenogears
The parallels between Klaus and Krelian are astonishing. HUGE fan of Krelian
@@wiseguy240Winston I played Xenogears after Xenoblade 1 and before Xenoblade 2, and sadly I didn't even remember about Xenogears watching this... But I remebered the weird scene with the scientist in Xenoblade 1, and "OHH MY GOD, THEY ARE CONNECTED"
If I replay Xenogears someday, I need to fix this and fully understand the game and put it in my memory.
But the world three reminded me of the babel tower in Xenogears, that tower was painful
But I am surely playing Xenosaga someday
i come back here to watch this for at least 10 minutes a day
Chris King i know right? RUclips keeps recommending this cutscene to me and I just keep on coming back.
And here I was thinking I was a weirdo for rewatching cutscenes a lot. Srsly though this cutscene is amazing.
Arnaldonintendo I honesty think I watch xenoblade cutscenes a bit too much depending on the cutscene I have all the dialogue memorized word for word
Chris King yep, this is my problem. Half these dialogues memorized. And most of the xenoblade series cutscenes are so good cinematically.
agreed!
I actually played XCX first and was left with a lot more question marks than I would have liked. Then I went on to XC1 just because that game had achieved some really well-known status in the Nintendo world of games. I was pleasantly surprised at how compelling that story really was. Then when I got the chance to play this game (XC2), this one cutscene really summed up the Xeno series of games take on humanity. I'm a real fan of the games now.
The "Fools indeed" that said by The Architect in the end is not only pointing to the humans, but also to himself..
It all comes full circle in Future Redeemed!
Ah, the twist I never got to experience. I was told that 1 and 2 were completely seperate, so after finishing 1 Googled who this "Klaus" guy was cause I didn't really get the ending. That obviously led me here. Sad times.
Xenoblade 3 should have Galea and Klaus' reincarnations as the main characters, similar to Fei and Elly from Xenogears.
We need to learn more about the Conduit, the Trinity Processor, the Earth before the experiment and about them, the two scientists who became gods.
I really hope that the numbered Xenoblade games end up being Klaus' story. I mean we saw a little of him as Zanza in the first game and learned more about him in this. I want to know the events leading up to birth of a universe. Who are the savourite rebels? What were they planning on doing with that conduit? What drove Klaus to try and create a new universe?
Huuuuh

Also, i wonder if all of these "universes that are unaware of one another" also refers to every other video game universe in history
If the ending of XC3 involves going back into time and stopping the Conduit for being activated and results in the story of XCX, I going to f*** flip. Remember in XCX, aliens deem humans as dangerous
Am I the only one who is eagerly waiting commentated let’s plays to reach this point? Particularly by Xenoblade fanboy LPers.

Kevin Notanactualname I wanna see xenogear and Xenosaga fans react to this
So Juju destroyed the universe and created a new one. Why am I not surprised.
And when the universe was born two beings came into existence. The Noponis and the Jujonis.
Remember how in Xenoblade 1, the Planet was a solid color?
I guess now we know why
spindash64 going back futher to Xenogears this space station is a replica from the opening, including the anchor bolt attack.
I'm afraid I know very little about the older Xeno games. All I know is that having weird plots that put Tales games to shame seems to be a running trend
Does anyone else think the two people at 0:38 in the video look like X and Y from XC3?
