It is a parent's job to make sure that their child will not make the same mistakes that they did in the past.
Rex just came in, stopped a laser beam like it’s nothing, took down a mech and scolded his rebellious daughter all within 40 mins!

I know everyone’s talking about rex scolding his daughter for making the same mistakes he did as a kid, but can we talk about shulk with nikol? That whole conversation about choosing whether your weapon being made to kill or to protect, it’s similar to shulks whole arc in XC1. He was essentially a tool of death for zanza for his entire life, but ultimately he was able to choose his own path and create a new world. In a way, he’s passing that lesson on to his son, and I love that

I personally think of it as an offbrand application of Alvis' "The Monado does not control itself"-line in XC1. An object is not defined by its purpose, but rather what the one using it wants to do with it or what it stands for for them.

@@ranwilliams1117 We don't actually know for certain how long either Rex or Shulk have been in Aionios but it dose seem to have been only since Alpha took over Orgin so only about 15 years.
The war and Aionios has been around a long time before that we Matthew even saying his granddad was born sometime within the last 70 years and we know that Noah and Mio had multiple lives before that.
So can we talk about Shulk learned Dunban's combat style, and incorporated his arts into it??? Shulk showing his devotion and dedication to his Big Bro's memory. Mad respect. If you doubt me, note his movements and sword strikes.

I love that Matthew's voice actor has the same accent as the Vandhams in the main game. Helps to keep the consistency.

@@kpxtreame Nah, definitely not inner city within UK coming from a British person, but still partly British or well half British. That 'Freezing my balls off' is definitely something you will hear in the UK though.
His accents sorta reminds me of Jamaica or Caribbean with how the words flow off each other.
It's a version of "roadman" accent, without the usual slang. It's a modern, urban accent that originated in London and has emerged in the last couple of decades among younger people, predominantly from ethnic minority groups, children and grandchildren of immigrant communities, largely from the Caribbean and West African descent, mixed with Cockney, and others. The accent has spread among young people across the south of the country, especially those who identify with urban culture. My 20 year old son speaks a bit like this although he lives in Plymouth.
This may explain why outsiders liken it to Australian accents, since this also came from Cockneys (working class londoners) who were sent to the penal colony.

30:47 This line right here also hits pretty hard. Yeah, it may have been Rex just giving Glimmer a scolding, but it's definitely something Rex had to tell himself, and maybe even Shulk, as he lived in Aionios. Most of their friends are gone, and they had to learn to let go of that pain.
Seeing shulk spend quality time with his son and bonding over machines was so sweet 🥹
Just finished this chapter and seeing Shulk having a nerdgasm moment with Mikol made me smile. Wholesome moment
No one’s mentioning how they referenced both “I like you attitude” AND “Iets show em a thing or three” in Rex’s introduction PEAK writing

@@lesslighterThe games have been incredibly coy about actually clearing up who Rex ended up with. Didn't clarify it in 2, the photo was basically a punt, and in this game he never references any of his potential partners by name and only meets Glimmer and never gives any hints that he has any other relations at all in Aionios.
Which I find downright hilarious because 2 is mostly written as a Rex and Pyra romance that they chickened out of...only to then have that the only solidly confirmed pairing anyway. Maybe that changes, but I doubt it. If they were going to be straightforward, they would have done so by now

I just want to point out how Rex was shorter than Shulk in the DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Now he’s taller than Shulk.

@@seakaizers2211 Shulk was 18, and Rex was ~15. But overall, your point stands. Shulk was almost fully grown already, wheras Rex was still a bit younger with more to go.

Leon Scott Kennedy is one of the biggest chads in video game history that he appears in 3 games plus some remakes of 2 of the 3 games, Re4 also being ported to multiple consoles and handhelds, a spirit in smash ultimate and being in 3+ Resident Evil movies. Rex is slightly below Leon because Rex just appears in xc2, xc3 (games only on nintendo switch), as a smash ultimate spirit, assisting a final smash and being a taunt. (Ik his salvager gear is in botw, but rex isn't actually in botw and they just brought his gear just to have link show it off, so that's why it doesn't count) So, Leon has a lot more content than Rex and he kind of gains the upper hand on rex as Leon was a much larger chad before rex even existed.

Am I the only I one who noticed that Rex in the cutscene when he saves Nikol and Glimmer, he is casually blocking a giant beam attack from a huge mech much like when Jin casually blocked Siren's laser back in 2? Looks like Vandham isnt the only one Rex is borrowing notes from.
I think pyra is dead or in the endless as seen when linka talks to rex about her and rex doesn't seem to talk about it.

I think it’s more likely they were killed and forced into the Cycle. They were probably fighting and dying in some off-screen colony that whole time.

It seems like they went into slumber as part of the process of creating Origin. Remember that the world of Aionios is a product of Moebius's "endless now", meaning time has frozen in the other two worlds in the meantime, so it makes sense they wouldn't be there, and Moebius wouldn't reincarnate two Aegises that would very likely be able to stop them.

I believe it's also implied that they are the energy that oroborous users tap into - Oroborous seems like a much improved form of affinity, and it's logical conclusion it literally allows multiple people to fight as one, which makes sense as affinity was originally a way for Pneuma to gather data on how life was developing. This then also explains why gathering "battle data" powered up Nikol and Glimmer, it literally improved their affinity rank with each other
Rex blocking the dual ferronis beams with no issue is a testament to his power as a driver. Also the fact he uses both greatswords with ease shows how strong he got, dudes got muscle to put Zeke to shame.

Architect above, I love what they did with Shulk and Rex for this game!! The way that Shulk took up Dunban’s fighting style, mixing in his own combat skills with Dunban’s one-armed combat. The way that Rex’s new Blade mixes [Coffee with Milk]’s Blade into a dual weapon like Roc, and those two halves of the weapon are Pyra and Mythra’s original Blades?! Oh my Zanza I LOVE IT!!
