At least he's not puffed up. I'm a bass player that plays guitar and drums, and sometimes keyboards. I have several favorite bass players, drummers, and guitarists. Geddy Lee and Chris Squire (RIP) put me on the bass track. there are many other very good bassists. The strings both of them use (and I do for bass) were originally made for John Entwistle. I'm currently trying to hone my guitar skills. One of my favorites is Michael Schenker. There are many technically superb guitar players, but I like Michael's almost classical feel in some leads.
Interesting that he doesn’t want say who he likes as a guitar player, he can’t say Jimmy Page, or a Brian May, or a Gary Moore for example? Most guitar players view Frank as a guitar god, and he knows it. He was compared to Hendrix for years and didn’t like it, I think that’s part of the reason he won’t name anyone.
As Im listening im staring at my guitar neck calling the note names off going north south and east west its a constant study Piano 88 keys every set of 2 black keys will have the note c to the left and F to the left of the 3 black key clusters So C# D# for 2 black keys and F# G# A# for the 3 black keys thats if your playing left to right if you go right to left those notes are Flatted. Now you know the white keys are naturals and the black keys are accidentals and they will always and forever be that. Now if you go right to left and your Flatting the keys Db Eb would be the note names and Gb Ab Bb are 3 black key note names if moving left. So C# is Db and D# is Eb same black keys but depends which way your going.. Guitar you cant see the melody like that its upside down and facing away from you So I mentally find B C AND E F half steps at 1st fret you can count up EF and BC start to see those all over the neck those are like two white keys touching and then any other notes would be chromatic EF F# G G#A A#B C C# So you might pick off the half steps and then locate the sharp or flat notes and kinda visualize each string how you see the piano finding half steps and then the black note keys. This should be flash carded every string im getting lazy at 60 drop and give me 20 lets count backwards from 12th fret and make sure your in tune and call and sing the notes.. Know how to make 100 guitar players all shut the fuck up at the same time ??? set sheet music in front of them. That fucking joke makes me angry enough to learn the F and G clef to become a reader. BTW the F clef is for bass and G clef is for Treble or guitar. Piano the F Clef is for left hand and you read for right hand from G Clef. at the same time you say Yes but before you freak you learn the left hand slowly and then the right part work one Monday the other Tuesday till both hands can play it well Then work on the together part. Every Good Boy Does Fine 5 lines of the G clef and the spaces are F A C E. 5 Lines of the F clef Good Boys Do Fine Always and spaces for F clef are A C D E . What if Frank told you dudes hes gonna play a 1 6 2 5 jazz progression on guitar in the key of B what would you do make for the door or write the progression out in a hurry ? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 B C D E F G A B the answer is B G C F Harmonize the scale those are the chords BMaj Gmin Cmin FMaj If I can blurt this out you can and if you cant screen cap everything I just wrote and you write it out every day .. I should be able to write the modes but im weak in that memorazation Ionian no sharps or flats Dorian Phrygian Lydian Mixolydian Locrian you see my weak spots I do I cant fill out those Modes without looking them up So I need to write them 20 times a day till I can. One of Franks' all time favorite guitarists is the great Phil Bilzor.
Phil Bilzor rocks!
