Hello fellow apes 🐵 Wanted to let you know that the giveaway is over as I've already sent the codes to the winners. Congratulations to @Kythrix, @IggyPicon and @gigabit5958 and thanks to everyone who joined 🎉🎊🎉🎊
To anyone confused. This story takes place after Journey to the west. So it's a original story from Game Science after Sun Wukong achieved buddahood for completing his journey with Tripitaka.
They can cry all they want, I always played souls games for the fashion. If the boss have a blingy crown, IT'S MINE. No tricks will be cheap enough to stop me from robbing him.
Fun fact: Sun Wukong's crown is a Heaven-sent magic treasure designed to reign in the immortal’s unruly, rebellious nature (which is weird, because that was put on him during his Journey to the West arc, after he defeated the armies of Heaven). So it's basically like those anti-mutant collars from Deadpool 2
Was it not because he was tasked with guarding Tripitaka and *immediately* decided not to, so needed some encouragement to follow orders through the crown?
Yep the circlet was forced upon Wukong to prevent him from going astray. Similar to Inuyasha's beads of subjugation for anyone who's watched Inuyasha which shares a lot of similarities to Journey to the West.
The first guy is Erlang Shen, the Divine General of Heaven. He is the greatest warrior of heaven, and the nephew of the Jade Emperor. Born a demigod, he used an axe as a young child to split a mountain and save his mother who was trapped underneath. He has a third divine eye and a celestial hunting hound. He is one of the most revered gods in Chinese myth. In the original Journey to the West, he was Sun Wukong’s biggest obstacle in the fight against Heaven. Not only that, but the novel (technically it wasn’t a series back in the day) portrayed Erlang Shen as winning the fight against Wukong. Wukong studied under Subodhi, and taught Wukong the 72 transformations, cloud summersault, etc. but Erlang was portrayed to be slightly superior, such as having 73 transformations. In their fight, they didn’t merely Duke it out with hands and weapons, but had transformation battles as well (such as Wukong transforming into one animal, Erlang transforming into a predator, and Wukong would transform into the predator of that predator and so on). Though, from a powerscaling perspective, it is unclear if Wukong surpasses Erlang in strength by the end of the story. Though as the Buddha of Victory in Battle, I’d probably say Wukong at the end is stronger.
I always thought they are on par during the 1 on 1, wu kong might even had the upper hand few times. Erlang only won because he have the other gods as backup
bro I love Chinese stories "Shortly after being born as an infant, little Xian Xian (born and dubbed immortal under the supervision and 65536 blessings of supreme divines and who is a protagonist of this realm btw) used the fingertip of his pinky toe to split the 80km high mountain (smallest of the bunch back then) into 100 thousand (uncountable) pieces when his pet grasshopper got trapped underneath, the largest chunks of the mountain that crashed all over the land have formed the mountain ranges of modern China"

Your fun fact is incorrect and not fun. These details and expanded interpretations are from other sources, and are not part of the original Journey to the West text.
Fun Fact: Goku from DBZ is based on Sun Wukong (known as Son Goku in Japan and Monkey King in the West). He even had a powerpole as a kid, that magically extends like Wukong's staff
I believe his name is written similarly to how sun wukong is written as well, which is why the tournament announcer got his name wrong, directly calling kid goku sun wukong
Another fun fact: Sun Wukong's staff, the Ryui Jingu Bang (or Grand Pillar), was actually a treasure of the Eastern Dragon King and basically used to keep the oceans calm iirc. So yeah, if you wanna blame anyone for choppy waves or tsunamis, blame that chaos gremlin of a stone monkey And, Zanny, to answer the question of "who is that guy" at 1:02 when fighting the three-eyed guy: that is Erlang Shen, a god who was called in by the Jade Emperor (the ruler of Heaven) to basically just deal with Wukong when he first fought the armies of Heaven since *literally no one else could match him in a fight*, and even then I'm pretty sure he had to cheat? Sources vary in that. If I'm right, he got help from the Four Heavenly Kings (the four giant guys posted up behind him) and Laozi, an alchemist turned deity (I think?) who used a literal diamond snare to trap the mad monkey and just get him to *stop* After that, since they wanted to kill Wukong for his assault on Heaven but can't since he's immortal, they had to throw him into Laozi's Brazier, a giant pot where they intended to cook Wukong for 49 DAYS to drain the immortality out of him... It just made him angrier, and it got so bad that fucking BUDDHA Himself had to step in and say "Bro. Chill." Journey to The West lore is wild is what I'm saying bro-
fun fact the staff, the jingu bang, is in fact not a staff but a pillar from the palace of the Dragon king of the sea, who's a total bro. Also the story is set after the journey to the west, I think
@@Apotheosis- the total bro who told on Wukong to Heaven. Jk tho, he actually does become a bro. I love how Wukong is the first Shounen protagonist to use the power of friendship and it’s all completely off screen. 500 years under a mountain and suddenly everyone you went to war against is your best friend.
@@Crippledsteel if you watched the full cutscene of the opening you will see Wu Kong himself mentioning that he already completed the journey (the scripture is safe). After some time he left the court (heavens) and Buddhism to retire / spend the rest of his life at his mountain with his clan. However for some reason this offended the court, maybe they are paranoid of him or maybe there's something evil controlling the gods, and they proceed to slaughter his clan. Then we came to this game's opening scene
@@Crippledsteel nope this is entirely after Journey to the West. Notice in the opening scene, Wukong talked about his master is safe and the scripture from the West was unharmed and he also achieved Buddhahood. The game changed the fact that he decided to abandon his duty to live with mortals and it pissed off Heaven
0:40 the music zanny used here is from the 1986 TV show Journey to the West. This version of the story is an absolute classic, the best even till this day, embedded the childhood of an entire generation
One really interesting thing. The Tiger Vanguard in the Flashback realm is the same dude as the one on the bridge, the blood pool tiger is one of his 2 sons and the other one you can fight after a hidden quest with an item dropped by the bridge version. If completed you fight the other son. Also it's very cool that even in the flashback and then later on the tiger family worked with the yellow wind guy. One got corrupted, so did the latter Vanguard. The game's writing is subtle but insanely well done. 10/10
No, it's not. The flashback tiger vanguard is the original tiger vanguard from Journey to the West killed by Wukong. His older son becomes the vanguard tiger we fight in the game, and the lesser one is the crazy tiger who dwells in the well. The dude you fight on the bridge is one person who was deceived by the crazy tiger that could cure his son's disease (which is caused by the yellow wind), in return he lures and kills people to feed the crazy tiger. His name ‘虎伥' means a person manipulated by the tiger as a lure to more human flesh. The villagers discovered the truth and killed his son due to anger. That's why you can see those zombies surrounding that house while doing this quest and the world turns grey because it's all spiritual left for that kid.
actually you're wrong, the tiger in the flashback died when the journey to the west happened, killed by Wukong, the man on the bridge's story is a little long so bear with me(or you can find the story in the journal about the mad tiger in the well/other son): The two sons of the original tiger vanguard survived and the older one began to manage the monsters on the mountain, resulting in the villagers worshipping him, and when the yellow wind sage came back, the two brothers united against him, when they lost, to protect the younger brother's life, the older brother surrendered and became the new vanguard, the younger brother however is not happy about it and ran off to hide in a well. later on, a swordsman appeared in the well, he told the tiger that he is seeking out Budha to cure his son, the tiger, seeing the man as a useful asset, lied and said he is the older brother(worshiped by the villagers) and can help. When the story checked out, the swordsman brought his son down the well, and the tiger fed the kid water from a special gourd which only temporarily solved the issue, and told the swordsman that he needs to eat humans to regain strength to defeat the yellow wind sage, which would get rid of the wind around town which is destabilizing the son's soul, causing the illness. The man reluctantly complied. As time went on, the tiger liked the kid, so he gave the gourd to the kid to keep, but then one day the man never came again, apparently the villagers found out the man was luring humans into the well for the tiger, so in revenge they beat the kid to death, and the swordsman murdered the whole village and left. so the tiger brought the coffin containing the son's body down to the well with him as a reminder that he needs to defeat the yellow wind sage.
A while ago I felt a weird disturbance in the force, now I realise it was because it was Zanny saying "message to all autobots, the gameplay is smooth" while he was recording this vid.
A fun fact: In the release date trailer, they play the same motif that occurs in the 1970/80’s(?) journey to the west tv show’s intro. One for the og asians that had their parents make them watch it as a kid (I remember it on a pirated vhs)
The game I'm having the most fun on this year is power wash simulator. It's just the dings that really are so satisfying, and it just shows you that patience really brings happiness to those who wait
This game has a boss mechanic where bosses only change into second phase if players are able to defeat the boss within a certain time frame. So if you're good and the boss is too easy for you, the boss will get a second phase to make the fight more difficult. If you are struggling and is just barely able to beat the boss, it won't go into second phase and your boss fight ends there.
This makes some sense from a story perspective. Like the fight against the tiger - it’s not to the death, so if he gets beat up quickly then he tries harder and goes into phase 2. I have mixed feelings from a gameplay perspective. My initial thoughts are “just get good” and “might be nice since I’m so bad”
I am glad that wukong story managed to make it way to the west. Mostly main land asia used to know it and they grew up watching hundred chapters of journey to the east (with wukong in all yellow attire)
@@josiahclarke3535 ah here another douchebag. Erlang Shen was born demigod, his father was a mortal, and his mother is sealed under a mountain by Jade Emperor (which is her brother) because of her wedding with a mortal. Erlang Shen, or actually Yang Jian was the first to defy the heaven because he splits the mountain where his mother sealed with an Axe (thus a mountain-splitting axe in the intro)
Nah, the 72 transformations are actually 72 different magic spells, not extra lives. Wukong has 7 different forms of immortality so he cant die unless ypu bypass all of it.
I really love your channel, man. I'm subscribed to hundreds of people, but you're one of the very few where liking once isn't nearly enough. Thank you for all the good moments you share with us and the work behind. Love you Zan man
Wukong being imprisoned is a pretty iconic trope for his character. In manga he is always depicted as being behind bars, but I think he was imprisoned inside of a mountain.
An improvement to the whole respawning and death system, would be to simply have the monkey lay unconscious and for a passage of time effect to play over his face, then his eyes open and you're back to full. Watching you fall off the bridge, comically fall into the sand and die, then have to run back over and over again was kinda painful, I suspect it was painful to play. VR taught me that when you fall in a videogame, you should always stay in the experience, and just have to climb up again. It's way more immersive, and doesn't waste so much time with archaic mechanics.
Zanny thought the 2 tiger fights are the best ones, jokes on him, it's the same guy. If you use the spell on him in the second fight (which is in the past), he'll even comment on it and be confused, as to why you know his spell (because you got it from him in the present). The rat that helps you after that fight is the rat that goes mad in the present (wind sage boss fight). The items you get from the past encounter always counter the last boss, in the 1. Chapter it gives you fire immunity against the fire boss, 2. Chapter takes away his winds & stuns him.

I absolutely love how after some of the boss fights, the headless monk will come out of nowhere to just troll on the enemy with a music number, while also poetically dunking on the British (and rightfully so) for stealing his head LMAO.
The Monkey King has more than 72 forms. The 72 Earthly Transformations is kind of a misleading name, they're the 72 powers he gained from training with a daoist monk, one of which was shapeshifting, but he isn't limited to 72 forms.
I feel like I'm the only one who immediately thought "oh sick we play as reincarnated Wukong"? Cause Wukong achieved Buddahood so he can be reincarnated.

fun fact the staff, the jingu bang, is in fact not a staff but a pillar from the palace of the Dragon king of the sea, who's a total bro.
Also the story is set after the journey to the west, I think
See that's where I'm confused cause it looks like this can slot in in-between WuKongs backstory and journey to the West
Then we came to this game's opening scene
i've heard of both wukong, his staf ruyi jingu bang and the palace of the dragon king, but never knew his "staff" came from there.

That's why you can see those zombies surrounding that house while doing this quest and the world turns grey because it's all spiritual left for that kid.
actually you're wrong, the tiger in the flashback died when the journey to the west happened, killed by Wukong, the man on the bridge's story is a little long so bear with me(or you can find the story in the journal about the mad tiger in the well/other son):
The two sons of the original tiger vanguard survived and the older one began to manage the monsters on the mountain, resulting in the villagers worshipping him, and when the yellow wind sage came back, the two brothers united against him, when they lost, to protect the younger brother's life, the older brother surrendered and became the new vanguard, the younger brother however is not happy about it and ran off to hide in a well.
later on, a swordsman appeared in the well, he told the tiger that he is seeking out Budha to cure his son, the tiger, seeing the man as a useful asset, lied and said he is the older brother(worshiped by the villagers) and can help.
Apparently this game has a secret 5th ending that requires 100 hrs of playthru....
Zannys gonna be here a looong while
love your videos!
Hello there.
Ending is so worth it. I'm surprised the devs decided to hide that spectacle and not make it an ending that everyone gets for their first run.
Is it just need 100 hours? Or is there any other requirements? I prerty much want to get it if can, thanks
Hello there
Zanny: *planning shit*
The skaven at 17:12: *_primate thing go dead-dead_*
A while ago I felt a weird disturbance in the force, now I realise it was because it was Zanny saying "message to all autobots, the gameplay is smooth" while he was recording this vid.
The amount of inside jokes in this video must make Zanny’s vids so strange to newcomers. I love it
A fun fact: In the release date trailer, they play the same motif that occurs in the 1970/80’s(?) journey to the west tv show’s intro. One for the og asians that had their parents make them watch it as a kid (I remember it on a pirated vhs)
Monkey magic?
@@thegreatsaiyaman1126 no, that one is the western adaptation haha
Pirated vhs is craaaazy😂
The game I'm having the most fun on this year is power wash simulator. It's just the dings that really are so satisfying, and it just shows you that patience really brings happiness to those who wait
Day 241 of asking Zanny to do an uncharted series:

Bruh even the tigers using rivers of blood 😭 14:33
Thank god I'm not the only 1 lol
16:03 having the For Honor shaolin's quote play faintly in the back of the monkey swarm got me WEAK 🤣
Oh so… most bosses I’ve been hasn’t showed their second phase. Meaning I’m… bad(?). 😢
@logicgaming7976 no, it just means you aren't clearing them super fast. Yet. Think of the replayability though
@@planet_gardener4031 ahhh i appreciate the reply :))
I dont like that, there is no timer or any visual indication for it. So how are you supposed to know you missed a phase?
This makes some sense from a story perspective. Like the fight against the tiger - it’s not to the death, so if he gets beat up quickly then he tries harder and goes into phase 2.
I have mixed feelings from a gameplay perspective. My initial thoughts are “just get good” and “might be nice since I’m so bad”
I am glad that wukong story managed to make it way to the west. Mostly main land asia used to know it and they grew up watching hundred chapters of journey to the east (with wukong in all yellow attire)

The boss at the beginning is Erlang Shen, the man the Jade Emperor had to get to beat Wukong after the heavenly armies couldn’t.
Also the Jade Emperors nephew
Literally Heavens special boy
@@josiahclarke3535 ah here another douchebag.
Erlang Shen was born demigod, his father was a mortal, and his mother is sealed under a mountain by Jade Emperor (which is her brother) because of her wedding with a mortal.
Erlang Shen, or actually Yang Jian was the first to defy the heaven because he splits the mountain where his mother sealed with an Axe (thus a mountain-splitting axe in the intro)

3:01 fun fact he in fact has infinite transformations. The name comes from the fact that it gives him 72 lives
How tf does that work?
@@syabilimran6576 means he can die 73 times before actually dieing
Nah, the 72 transformations are actually 72 different magic spells, not extra lives. Wukong has 7 different forms of immortality so he cant die unless ypu bypass all of it.
I really love your channel, man. I'm subscribed to hundreds of people, but you're one of the very few where liking once isn't nearly enough.

Headless singer:🎸🎸

17:03 plot twist: zanny intentionally lost so he could play the new Star Wars game

The real reason Zanny is on PC instead of PS is because he still has it running deciding whether to kill or spare Jin’s uncle
The Monkey King has more than 72 forms. The 72 Earthly Transformations is kind of a misleading name, they're the 72 powers he gained from training with a daoist monk, one of which was shapeshifting, but he isn't limited to 72 forms.
