I'm not sure if you'll see this, Frank, but we're all still praying and pulling for you. I haven't found any information stating that you are back out touring after your diagnosis and retirement announcement, but I hope that you are able to continue your art. As a fan, thank you for all of the amazing records and performances. As a fellow musician, I wanted to say thank you for setting the bar so high, and being such an inspiration to myself and millions of others around the world. You pushed us all to be better just by releasing the music you did. One of the greatest improvisers to ever pick up the instrument! Here's to you, Mr. Frank Marino! 🍻
All i can say is thank God for Frank Marino. Growing up in the 70's i was lucky to see Frank a few times, once at Madison Square Garden opening up for Kansas, another time with Aerosmith, and once with Pat Travers. Not only is his feel incredible and playing inspirational, but vocals are out of this world. Hopefully God will shine down on you Frank, and we will see or hear you play again !!!!
I am 60 and have been playing guitar since I was 11. Of course I was influenced by EVH, Jeff Beck, Clapton, SRV & many others. But Frank was the one that blew my mind and had me practicing for hours a day. Still my favorite guitarist
Soul is indeed what makes music great, but fast scale runs mean a bit more than NOTHING. [EDIT: I should add that if you told a concert violinist or pianist that fast scale runs meant nothing as they prepared to perform Paganini or Chopin, they'd look at you as if you were a complete idiot - which, in that case at least, would be entirely justified.]
It's good to have the skill of anything you would like to do on the guitar. Fast runs have a place and are fun... if you can do them. They can be very melodic and soulful. Getting there is another story.
I have seen Eddy van Halen,Tony Iommy, Brian May,Mick Box,Michael Schenker, and a lot more.....and i saw Mr. Frank Marino in the early 80s in Frankfurt. He f....d em all. Hope you get ok Sir. A big fan from Germany.
Bummer With sorrow I am forced to announce my immediate retirement from touring, and possibly all things related to continuing my career, due to an unexpected and debilitating medical condition which makes it impossible for me to tour. I want to thank all the people who supported me all of the last half-century. I know that many were looking forward to seeing us play this fall and I was looking forward to getting out again and doing more shows, but it now appears that in the absence of a miraculous recovery, my Concert DVD (Live at the Agora) will constitute the last show I will ever have played. I ask any that are believers to include me in their prayers. - Frank Marino
Here's to Frank!!! The best guitar player nobody but real old school rockers have heard of. The man's an all time great!!! Good to know he's still doing it after all these years.
Frank stands alone to me. He is a master engineer and technician who converts that into just fantastic guitar, musicianship, lyrics, and singing. A true treasure listening to him live
Word in 70s was Grank was just a regular guy, not a player at all. Took an acid trip and came back pla GG ing like this full blown. Course, i always took it with a grain of salt. But
I heard Frank for the first time back in 1973, from the Child of the Novelty album, New Rock and Roll. My older brother had that album. He had a big stereo from Radio Shack. I was 9 years old when I heard that song. The next song I heard was a few years later. From Mahogany Rush IV. It was Dragonfly. CHOM FM in Montreal. My older brother bought that album, too. That's when I really perked up to Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Then I bought that live album from '78. Then Tales of the Unexpected in '79. Long story short ... Frank's music crosses generations. Fast forward forty years. I have 2 outta 4 sons that play guitar. Both of those sons absolutely love Franks music! One of my boys and his band won the "Battle of the Bands" competition in Atlanta when he was 18 and 19 back in 2007 or '08. The moderator asked him (my son), Who were your greatest influences? My son said something like, "Oh, damn. Well, def Frank Marino". And then somebody in the audience shouted, Yeah!! And then I have my youngest son who picked up the guitar in 2016 or 17. He likes more jazzy n bluesy music. He doesn't like hard rock. So, I played It's Begun to Rain from the original album (IV) and he absolutely loved it! He loved Dragonfly, too. So, we started bantering about who is the most well-rounded? Who can play so many genres of music flawlessly? Who makes you feel the most comfortable and at ease at home? Who makes you feel the most comfortable in your skin? Which guitarist do you most identify with? Who would you sound like if you could play guitar on that level? Who's lyrics gave you goosebumps and inspired you the most? Based on all our music interests, it came down to 3. Jimmie Page and (Zeppelin), David Gilmour, and Frank Marino. We eliminated so many off that list. Blues artists, rock, jazz. Lots. Gone! Eric Johnson held in for a while. Why not? He's tight. It was hard to decide, obviously. Then we thought, These sounds and techniques from these bands, Zep, Floyd, and Mahogany are very disparate. So it's unfair to compare one against the other. So back to the original questions. Who is the most well-rounded? Who makes you comfortable at home and in your own skin? Who do you most identify with as a guitarist, and who would you sound like if you played on that level? Who's lyrics inspired you and gave you goosebumps? 2 of 3 of us said, Frank Marino. The other said, David Gilmour. But, he said, "It's just a difference in taste. They all taste different. This is an unfair comparison: Which Is Best? It's just a matter of taste." Ok, so which tastes best? Which would you aspire to? We three all said, "Frank", at the same time! Hahaha! So there!! How d'ya like them apples? True story!
I was in Hawaii camping on north shore, and I cranked this tune out while the Dat was ending to a incredible surf day. All the local Hawaiians come up to me and wanted to know this song. They were blown away by it, I was treated to killer hawaiian BBQ, and was treated like a king from them for showing them Frank "Guitar God" Marino....true story!
So great to hear a fine guitarist play melodic lines instead of shred-head and overdone blues riffs. Definitely an underrated guitarist !!!! Play on Frank !!

This is probably my favourite video on RUclips. I've long considered Frank a musical genius (since the 70s, in fact) and here he demonstrates his innate talent for songwriting, this is such a beautiful song, his ineffable sense of melody, his musicianship... this just has everything. Love it.
Frank, no one ever talks about your vocals... this is so heartfelt and emotional but masculine and full of force. Not many people can pull that off. Your playing is stellar, and this is my favorite track and version... but your voice man... gets better with age
YES- everyone mentions his guitar wizardry but he so seldom sings with this type of slower paced, soulful style and it is deeply moving when he does. He is one of a kind

I grew up listening to Frank Marino And Mahogany Rush, Frank’s a musical treasure. Yes I’m another of the 63 year old guy’s found throughout the comment section who’s been listening to Frank since the old old days.
I just turned 63 a week ago. Tried to see Frank back when I was a teenager. He broke a hand or arm and that concert was canceled. Had tickets to two shows in 2020. That didn't work out. So glad for the DVD set from the Agora. A true master.
Had the privilege of seeing him and meeting him at the El Rey in Albuquerque many years ago. Astounded by his playing. Impressed by his taking the time to talk to us for a few minutes. We miss you Frank!
I can’t believe there isn’t 10Million subscriber’s to Frank! There aren’t many guitarist that can pull that off. The melodic clean sound that jazz players have and the mood to die for. Get well Frank!!!!!!!!!! May the Lord be with you and keep you. Prayers are out for you. With much love and gratitude from a fan that has seen you 5 times.
I commented if Under rated is ever gonna be used on Y/T It’s this guy. He’s a beast. I think part of the problem is his bands name. Rush- Mahogany Rush at 18 and stoned to the bone, who knew.lol.
It's all been said in these numerous comments. Timeless, breathtaking, mesmerising, otherworldly etc etc. I have no idea where he connects to when he picks up a guitar - only the universe knows the answer to that. Beautiful beyond mere words. God bless you Frank.
Beautiful playing. He's maybe more enjoyable than Bonamasa, Eric Johnson, Gary Moore, I dunno, but that was beautiful. Some of the greatest get unnoticed which doesn't seem fair but at least some of us have had the great privilege of "noticing" thanks to RUclips and Frank's dedication to his craft.
Hi Frank, You will and always have been #1 in my Book. I’m 63 now and have followed you since I was 12 Yrs Old. You are the Greatest Guitarist and Singer the World has known and will know about long into the Future. I hope you get well soon. I will definitely keep you in my Prayers. I bought the set with the Book and it’s my Cherished item. Thanks so much for putting it together. Keep well Frank.👍👍❤️
This is SPECTACULAR !!! 😃 Frank sure knows how to incorporate cool Jazz lines within his Blues/Rock playing. I love the way this particular SG (w/3 single-coil pickups) sounds just like a Strat to my ears. He really is the Best/Smoothest etc.
I saw Frank for the first time in 1972 at Vanier college auditorium in montreal quebec....amazing then and still fantastic and mesmerizing .....great musician
Will never forget 1977 Cobo Hall Detroit MI, featuring Kansas, Mother's Finest and head liner Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Marino is up there on the guitar Mt Rushmore with Page, Clapton, Hendrix. But that's just my humble opinion. Continue to heal up and Stay Groovy
No one can listen and watch this video and say God doesn't exist. The sheer incredible talent. The 70's had Frank Marino, Ronnie Montrose, Robin Trower, Pat Travers, and so many more. I saw Frank Marino once. The ability of these wonderful guitar players to make a crowd of 10k young partying people listen in silence is a tribute to their ability. To mesmerize the lucky ones hearing and observing it. Damn, I miss it. What a time it was.
I was so lucky to have seen both Ronnie and Pat appearing at a small venue in Tacoma. They performed within two or three months of each other. I was amazed that the owner of this club , which at one time was a Flakey Jake's hamburger place, got these superstars to play there. They were two of the best concerts I've ever been to. It wasn't too long after that I heard of Ronnie's passing. God bless the greats.
I think this somg was on the first album of his that I bought. Nobody has given me more entertainment in my 63 years than Frank Marino concerts albums and certainly i cannot be more thankful the stars aligned and his magic was captured. In recall lit clearly like it was yesterday a couple friends said he you gotta hear this. So on the living console magnavox johnny b goode. Never missed frank marino or little feat at the warner theatre in washington dc
4 Strat style pickups... a custom finish on his fretboard.... those are just the things I noticed... 45 years ago this guy was doing stuff I couldn't believe....!

So Sweet. So tasty. Thank you, Frank, for being such an early influence on this 64 year old multi-instrumentalist (ie... me.) Maybe I can catch a glimmer of what you have achieved.
Having read all the incredible comments there is nothing i can add, just to say thank God i found you, better late than not at all. I cant imagine any one better than this. God bless you.
Oh my freaking God I always knew about Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush never really paid attention. My sister had a friend in high school who was a guitar player two years younger than me but his brother is a phenomenal drummer named Joe Nevolo Who is one hell of a phenomenal drummer? You can look him up on RUclips or anywhere and he played with this band with Frank and I never really listened to Frank or Mahogany Rush but now that I’m getting older, I was turned onto this and oh my God, it blew my mind where have I been all these years
This song is like warm blanket on a cold day..
Thank you Frank for touching my soul in such a way. You are music.

I just turned 63 a week ago. Tried to see Frank back when I was a teenager. He broke a hand or arm and that concert was canceled. Had tickets to two shows in 2020. That didn't work out. So glad for the DVD set from the Agora. A true master.
who would of thought 100 years ago this beautiful sound could ever come from somebodies hands....
LOVED Frank's band Mahogany Rush back in the 70's!! "Norwegian Wood" was one of my favorites!!
It's been a long time since I have heard anything in the popular music culture that I was moved to call "beautiful music. Now I have.
I swear there's a magic in his music that brings me there to the beautiful past I've never lived through ...
Just had a BD he did, all the best at 69 years old sir.
That is one of most amazing performance's that I have ever seen..
Amen 🐝🌈💫
I commented if Under rated is ever gonna be used on Y/T It’s this guy. He’s a beast. I think part of the problem is his bands name. Rush- Mahogany Rush at 18 and stoned to the bone, who knew.lol.
@@fuzzybutkus8970 , I did!!! From the beginning. My best friend put me on to them in the early 70’s.
Get well?? Is he having health problems?
@@tonybarber420 , a debilitating shoulder as where he only had 50% movement and in constant pain.
As with soooooooooooo many,,,,,, Highly underrated artist.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
It's all been said in these numerous comments. Timeless, breathtaking, mesmerising, otherworldly etc etc.
I have no idea where he connects to when he picks up a guitar - only the universe knows the answer to that. Beautiful beyond mere words.
God bless you Frank.
I used to listen to F. M. back in the late 70s,was so good
Beautiful playing.
How wonderful in HQ 1080p. Beautiful.☮
You know it!
This is SPECTACULAR !!! 😃
Frank sure knows how to incorporate cool Jazz lines within his Blues/Rock playing.
I love the way this particular SG (w/3 single-coil pickups) sounds just like a Strat to my ears.
He really is the Best/Smoothest etc.
The most underrated musician in the world. Frank is unbelievable.
WIITHOUT A DOUBT, ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED INDEED!!! 🖤🔥🤘🏼
Just Holy Crap! Always loved Frank's music
This is a testament of one of the greatest musicians of our times. You all know what I'm talking about. The Feeling.
SO glad my buddy M.R. reintroduced me
to Frank's wonderful talents
Frank Marino is probably the best guitar player that ever picked one up
I saw Frank for the first time in 1972 at Vanier college auditorium in montreal quebec....amazing then and still fantastic and mesmerizing .....great musician
Dynamics to burn! Each solo is wildly different!
Well said my friend, well said.
@JoeM-by5tw.....Hell yes!!! Every one that you named epitomized the 70's sound!! Phenomenal musicians!! 🖤🔥🤘🏼
I've been a drummer since 1964. Man, this is sweet. I'm not religious, but, AMEN!
God doesn't exist. Great guitar players do. Here is some proof.
A 50 year old young one here. Franks touch and sensibilities on the fretboard......so good. ✌️🎸👌
A Master craftsman at work.
Why Gibson hasn’t come out with a Frank Marino signature SG yet I will never know.
4 Strat style pickups... a custom finish on his fretboard.... those are just the things I noticed... 45 years ago this guy was doing stuff I couldn't believe....!
I doubt Gibson would put a signature SG out that sounds like a Stratocaster ... bad for business.
@@DaleBrotherton Gibson has become a guitar manufacturing whorehouse...! They could use seymore's or DiMarggio's.. do a limited edition & make one big fat Mountain of $....!
Cuz he not a sell out , Gibson is not even made in America 👊🏼
@@stevelobianco6116 Mostly the Epiphone line but have you heard of the Gibson factory in Nashville?
Ive been to ALOT of concerts, Frank Marino in 1979'ish at Sacramento Memorial auditorium was the loudest concert by far. Great show!
His not just one of the best guitar players of all time but also one of the best singers as well.Just an amazing unique voice.
Absolutely enjoy his singing!
So Sweet. So tasty. Thank you, Frank, for being such an early influence on this 64 year old multi-instrumentalist (ie... me.) Maybe I can catch a glimmer of what you have achieved.
I mean…..probably the greatest rock/jazz/fusion/blues player there has ever been….bless you Frank Marino…..truly awesome….
Always loved you Mr. Marino...
True Master
I never get tired of hearing & watching this 👍
Having read all the incredible comments there is nothing i can add, just to say thank God i found you, better late than not at all. I cant imagine any one better than this. God bless you.
I keep watching this over and over...INCREDIBLE!
Got to see him and Mahogany Rush in Santa Monica back in the early 80's. Fantastic show ❤
True musician.. who plays concerts
Not shows 😂🤣😂
Love Frank. Genuine soul.
You’ve come to the right place.
Oh my freaking God I always knew about Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush never really paid attention. My sister had a friend in high school who was a guitar player two years younger than me but his brother is a phenomenal drummer named Joe Nevolo Who is one hell of a phenomenal drummer? You can look him up on RUclips or anywhere and he played with this band with Frank and I never really listened to Frank or Mahogany Rush but now that I’m getting older, I was turned onto this and oh my God, it blew my mind where have I been all these years
That is phenomenal! The drummer has a awesome groove too...I mean all these guys are incredible
I agree, the band is faultless, brilliant concert, wish i was there.!! Greetings from the land under the land down under (Tasmania)
I personally own this DvD from, Frank. 6 hours long. I have watched it 6 times, it's that good and worth buying it. Support the greatest.
Only 6 Times ?
