- Queensrÿche - original version of the "Take Hold of the Flame" video. (I've seen a letterbox version on RUclips.) This song kicks!
Note: I've boosted the color level a little.
how exactly are you supposed to get tired of his voice??? He's the best singer ever on this planet. Queensryche, you'll forever be in my heart. Love you all!
Sebastian from Sweden!
Eu concordo plenamente com você! Amo Geoff Tate! E adoro os vídeos de Queensryche que postou no seu canal! Sou sua inscrita! 🤗 🇧🇷❤️
It's a shame what has happened to this band. I guess the only thing we can do now is enjoy this pure magic from a better time that is long since gone.
So true. That is exactly what I do. Don't even give a shit about the new Queensryche
one of the best live performing groups I have ever had the pleasure of seeing.
I listened to this song a lot when my daughter was in the hospital. It held me together and that in turn helped her.
I have listened to this song a million + times while driving in my 87 camaro and living in the past, but never saw the video until last night. thank you for posting this song. Queensryche was among the best of the 80's rock metal. that guy could sing! gracias!
The golden years of hard rock/metal!
+AudiophileTubes Golden years of music before the cookie-cutter-3-min-singles.
I'll never forget this song, my roomate Jimmy and I went to see them in Dallas and we were holding a banner that read " take hold of the flame" , Jeff pointed right at us and said" take hold of the flame?" you got it, and they played it, one of the greatest memories of my life , the greatest song they've ever done, Cheers Jimmy wherever you are.
Omg! NO WAY! WOW
Great story man thanks for sharing.
You can never get tired of this song or this band, tates vocals just blows you away, hes just amazing..
Truly one of the best rock voices out there...What a song...So great...Just an amazing band...
I saw Queensryche when they supported Dio on The Warning tour at the Liverpool Empire UK - early 80's - nobody had even heard of them before - they blew the place away - i remember distictly this song - Jeff Tate hit the high note and everybodies jaws hit the floor - you could see everyone looking at each other saying - did that really just happen - awesome moment - great memory.
Wow, nine years after your comment I see this video while I'm cooking. I saw them supporting Dio the same year as you, but in I believe Hammersmith in London.
To be honest, I thought they were better than Dio at the time, I'd seen Dio live a few times, and thought that was his worse time and his lead guitarist wasn't the usual standard.
Geoff Tate has the best voice ever
This show? ruclips.net/video/WCeub2tZOho/видео.html
I saw the same show. They were on point and hungry af. They were the one band that should have never been opened for anyone.
Same here .and just went and seen them on the 9th awesome fucking concert
I've been listening to this song for years and I never get tired of it! Tate is the greatest!
To date, one of their best tracks ever! Underrated and underplayed. Thanks for posting!
Take a bow to THE master Geoff Tate! This song is Epic, as is this band. One of the 3 best male rock vocalists of all time! End of story!
Queensryche's mysterious and esoteric atmosphere that they generate, along with the cyberpunk landscape of 80's Tokyo in the beginning of the video, makes this band much more interesting and awesome. Hail Queensryche!
They were always a little smarter than the average metal band, and it shows through Tate and DeGarmo
Chris Degarmo's guitar work was waaaaay ahead of his time! When all the hair bands were possing! Chris was doing this!
THE RYCHE!!! Truly one of the best bands ever and singer. Queensryche is Definitely one ofthe greats.
Actually Geoff is like a fine wine. He just ages better with time. Fantastic voice!!! QR RULES!!!!
What a voice, brilliant!
I loooove this song.
We are one, we are children of the LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! A masterpiece.
old school Queensryche is awesome.
This is probably the best hard/heavy track there has ever been in the XXth century - and beyond.
When music used to put passion and effort in their songs. Such a beautiful period the eighties.
This is amazing music, we have nothing like it for teens these days. Amazing singer.
The entire album slays almost everything of the time and since. Roads To Madness is his finest singing IMHO.
Haunting Powerful Vocals of Geoff Tate ! Awesome Song !!! LOVE IT !!! Chills Man !!!
I totally agree with you, he has a voice that you can never forgget cause hes one of a kind and scott just kicks ass on the drums, there both so gifted
Why isn't there music like this today? I was born to late...
I'm 46 by now, but rock never got better than this for me.
Eric Waldhober in 26 and I agree I love this fucking song
One of the best vocals in rock
I'm 48 and you made this comment two years ago. Same age then. Remember these guys in concert in the 80's? Me too. Lol. Great stuff. Rock on ya'll forever and ever 🤘🤘
@@mgagliardi2011 I'm 48 to my brothers..I have rocked this and it is a magnificent masterpiece that binds us...we are the last great generation man...great memories of the 80s forever.
I am 60 and fully agree
no one will EVER sound like Geoff!!!
Ask Rob Halford
@@rvpsilva9213 Halford le hace los recados Tate. Geoff Tate is The best ever
@@rvpsilva9213 Rob never had any performance like this..In fact nobody ever performed like that..This is the best live performance ever..
Pure class, better than anything these days.
Im just wondering how much youve looked into todays music. :-)
5 years later and your comment still rings true. Probably will remain that way for 10, 15, 20, 25 or more years later.
@@Hellenicheavymetal today's music mostly rubbish
@@polar68 Way more rubbish than not perhaps but I still disagree with the original comment. I mean I like Take Hold of the Flame but I like Watains They Rode On easily moreso among others that are pretty modern.
So very good I loved it for ever, oh God how I long back to the good old 80's
No one else even comes close to Geoff Tate's brilliance!!!! Just absolutely remarkable, wish the original band were still together.Could. never be replaced!!!!!!!!
Albert Astran He's the only singer that could go toe to toe with Rob Halford!
Tate in his prime will own all of them
I WILL NEVER FORGET CRANKING THIS DOWN THE HIGHWAY FROM SAN ANTONIO TO AUSTIN AFTER MY HOCKEY GAMES!!!!! great album!!
this is out of this world briliance!
You're 100% right, not just a great metal singer but a truly great pure singer.I believe he is a trained opera singer.
The best heavy metal vocal ever!
Amazing band. Amazing singer. Amazing song. Amazing they're American.
Bob Schneider But with a HUGE British influence. European school is always better than American (U.S.A.) school. Even for the "stupid" things Europe is less stupid... anyway, Queensryche = LEGEND!!!
My ALL TIME favorite Queensryche tune ~ from waaay back!
Perfect in every sense of the word.
Take notes new generation, your so called music now days gets a BIG FAIL!
Yesterday this song came to mind, and I was thinkin bout the lyrics-the most of the song is obvious, but the intro is insanely brilliant-it says that some people somehow missed many things because they were afraid of what could happen, so the fate must hide it's face from those who try to see what will be, and if you think you know the outcome and don't try something-you'll never know what could've happened, maybe fate wouldn't hide and something unexpected would happen,so take hold of the flame..
I agree totally:is simply epic! I saw Queensryche 3 times (Bon Jovi support, Metallica support, and once as headliner of the Aardschokfestival) and I was never the same afterwards. Such professionalism, perfectionism, and talent! They seem like such nice, down to earth guys. The label Thinking Man's Metal in my opinion, is an honour. Because the intelligence is in everything they do, music, lyrics, technics. Nothing but praise for this band. Shame Chris de Garmo isn't there anymore.Just luv 'em
I am Chris's nephew! All hail Queensryche!
Your uncle is a demi god
I have seen Geoff tate live and can tell you he is one of the best vocalists there is, have alays loved his stuff and always will, he has an amazing range and nothing about him is electronically enhanced, he is the best.
thanks for putting this up here. Absolutely amazing song, like M3T4LH34D812 said, this is so ahead of its time and I think also so out of any range of comparison. This is 1984!!! Beautiful!
I'm from cuba ,but always I'll love heavy metal and good music like this.
I loveeeee QUEENSRYCHE. george
agreed! best voice ever.
saw them for the warning tour with kiss when I was like 14, came right home after the concert & joind thier fan club.lol
still love the old stuff & still listen to the 1st 3 albums all the time.
Quiet Riot must've been pissed back in the day with that QR in the background on stage. Lol! Loved this cassette as a kid. Legendary band!
Nuts meet vise. Geoff reaches and gets it with this one. One of my all time favorites from the Ryche.
again in tears watching old concerts of Queensryche concerts I went to in 1991 I met Goeff Tate I was amongst severl people he came over to talk to me, I thought I was gonna die! He is simply magnificent those eyes are just beautiful. He really has a presence about him, the entire band is magnificent, they are still touring! btw I loved him in those spandex black pants he looked mighty fine!
i saw these guys from the beginning to recently. i'm a musician. they do everything live. no studio trickery, or overdubs or anything. anyone that thinks that doesnt understand the recording process.
This was a period of time when musicians HAD TO BE Great....Other-wise you were over looked. YET!! You would never hear this on the radio. (Pre-internet kids!!) It was word of mouth, friends telling friends.."Check this out!!" Even Maiden wasn't played on radio....MTV helped a few years later...but there was a "golden age" of this type of stuff from 1980-1988 when there was some INCREDIBLE inventive music being put out. I will agree that "Grunge" killed this stuff off....(tho I have no problem with grunge, lots of great stuff.) I guess what I'm saying is...If you weren't a teen / 20ish at the time...you missed this era. Dream Theater carried things on into the 90's....and there are lots of other amazing bands also.....But for the most part, Most people listen to "POP" stuff....so sad.
I remember staying up and watching Night Flight on the USA network just to catch this video!
Well said. Although some radio stations did play this. Usually during the weekend hours of midnight to 2am
We had the Metal Zone in Rhode Island. Our own Dr. Metal...
***** Great album. My favorite is Rage for Order. The Killing Word's gets me every time.
Very emotional song...I agree.
***** Love your screen name. Isn't The Prophecy on the Live in Tokyo album? Great song...
It's hard to top Live in Tokyo lol, that whole vocal performance was almost album perfect.
One of the best and from my past. Wonderful memories. Thank you so much for uploading it. It's making me emotional.
best dame song ever!!! he sings his ass off
@ayerslay Actually, Dio did a 'duet' type thing with him on Mindcrime II. The song is called The Chase.
Great! I've heard this song so many times, but it stays great!
The most under rated rock band of all time!!!!! These guys are incredibley talented, and to see them is an experience.
this song is spiritual both lyrically and musically as well...- i mean thats the feeling i get whenever i listen to this under rated masterpiece.... And really very inspirational as well..
I just saw Queensryche last night and they didn't play this song, unfortunately. It's one of my favorites. Thanks for posting it. Oh, that voice! ♥
I haven't seen that video since it was on MTV (when MTV still played videos) I thought I'd look here and ther it was!! AWESOME, music3874. Thanks for that!!
Operatic hard rock perfection.
This whole album is powerful!
An amazingly talented band! It's too bad what happened,,,, the fans are the ones that pay for it!
never gets dull
his voice is incredible
***** 1651997 Studio version synchronized with the live video, it's a 99% match, just shows how good he was live.
Nice video!
The next closest I have seen is Psychopomp by The Tea Party. The did a live performance of It and the video released is the song played over the performance!! Just a bit of difference in the sound quality but a perfect .match!!!
We see the light of those who find
A world has passed them by
To late to save a dream that's growing cold
We realize that fate must hide its face
From those who try
To see the distant signs of unforetold
Oh... oh, take hold... FLAME!!!
From a haze came a rage of thunder
Distant signs of darkness on the way
Fading cries scream of pain and hunger
But in the night the light will guide your way
So take hold of the flame (TAKE HOLD!)
Don't you see life's a game (TAKE HOLD!)
So take hold of the flame (TAKE HOLD!)
You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain
Ride, to a place beyond our time
Reach, for the edges of your mind, and you are there
See, that the light will find its way
Back to a place where it will stay, make it stay
Throw down the chains of oppression that bind you
With the air of freedom the flame grows bright
We are the strong, the youth united
We are one, we are children of the light
So take hold of the flame
Don't you see life's a game
So take hold of the flame
You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain
The amazing vocal range of geoff tait
Thank you :))
Thank you
Jeez so good! TURN IT UP🤘🏻cannot believe this was 30 years ago!!!
I remember when the only music I listened to was Queensryche. these guys were total pros with the best rock voice ever.
one of the all time greatest queensryche songs. .this was the song that turned me on to them
Geoff is simply stunning
The most under rated group ever. I've seen them 3 times. My personal favorite band of all time...
Ahhh yes let us all not forget about Rob Halford when it comes to incredible voices. I saw both bands together in St. Paul MN. (Judas Priest and Queensryce) Great show, I was so high....I was afraid to come back down.
Played this as their final encore song at the recent show in Kansas City - AWESOME! Tate still has it after all these years.
one of the best songs by queensryche
BRILLIANT BAND, AND ONE OF THE BEST ROCK SINGERS OF ALL TIME!!
Superb vocal ability. His voice made the band what it is.
very good this video, and hard to find, Great (Queens Ryche)
Got caught doing a passionate "air vocal" performance of this song by my pop. Our relationship was never the same.
yes this is awsome great lyrics great singer
He still does actually. If you noticed at some of the recent live performances the fire in Eyes of a Stranger, Suite Sister Mary, Take Hold of the Flame, Queen of the Reich, and etc are still there.
Some of the best vocals I've ever heard strictly amazing
Yes definitely
When someone asked them what they wanted to achieve as a style, they responded: "Something between Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd"... Curious!
Well, I think all his work is spectacularly good. Personally, my favorite songs (so far) are "Take Hold Of The Flame" and "Eyes Of A Stranger".
...We miss Geoff Tate.
Tate screams his lung out loud. superb
Geoff Tate = best rock singer of all time. This song is unbelievable, I've heard it 1000's of times and it still gives me chills.
Yes, MTV was first in the mid 70's then VH1 came later. But I was playing and touring with bands in CA in the 70's and just about everyone playing was either smoked up, had a white nose or boozed. I'm almost 60 and don't remember everything from back there. Who cares, it all happened and we all had fun.
Geoff Tate was a great influence to Michael Kiske...
my mom is in love with Geoff Tates voice and love the music .Also the fact that they are a Seattle band (home band).
Man, Geoff sure could sing back then. Must have been that Tokyo air
never get enough of this 30 years and counting aND IT NEVER GETS DULL
When Geoff whales it out like that............every hair on my body stands up straight.............Simply Amazing Voice!
Geoff Tate’s vocals are amazing in this song. Also, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him in a movie called “Programming the Nation.” It’s a mind-blowing documentary about subliminal messaging and any fan of Geoff Tate should see it. bit. ly/pVmk9U
We grew up in the best era of metal...there was nothing like it. What I wouldn’t give to have these days back. So many great times associated with this song
@keysB3P Wait, what? VH had been around since the late 70's, Ratt didn't get signed until the early 80's. The problems with Ratt live was Pearcy and Robin Crosby being absolutely drilled with liquor.
Geoff Tate displays his ever amazing vocals on this song! I have been a fan of theirs from the very start, and will always be a fan of theirs. Each member of the band is an exemplary version of what a musician should be. My God...I don't know what an Angel sings like....but Geoff Tate has got to be up there with best Metal voice in history! LOVE THIS BAND!
i actually saw some of these guys in my local sam ash in jersey! i saw 2 guitarists one of em was the new guy who replaced the original and the bass player
they put on a show in the sam ash. it was great
unbelievably awesome song !
QUEENSRYCHE ROCKS ...
this is one of the best bands ever i used to be able to sing this
I'm going to see them on 9/11 in Sacramento Cal... I Can't wait!!!
They DID sound this good live back in the day. I know, I was there multiple times.
