It was actually a great film to true Terminator buffs. I saw the original Terminator the year it came out. Angry Joe was born in that year. I saw Terminator 2 the year it came out, while Joe was 7. The series wasn't created for Joe's generation, and thus Joe doesn't understand it.
T-800: Hey Jenelle, how was Terminator dark fate? Janelle: It was a great movie John, Where are you? *T-800 Hangs up* T-800: Your foster parents are dead
"I'm not a fan of the Chosen One sort of movie." Oh gee. Well then, maybe you should've...oh I don't know...NOT directed a movie from a franchise with an already-established 'Chosen One'?
John Connor isn't the standard Self-Fulfilling Prophecy Character. He genuinely is the hero in the future. Someone comes from the future and knows this to be true, rather than a Prediction.
@@davidjames579 That just makes it worse. They altered something that we as an audience knew was true. Why would the Terminators go back in time and attempt to assassinate John Conner if he wasn't the one who saved humanity? I'm not a huge Terminator fan (the first two movies were pretty good), but even I can see they made unnecessary changes for the sake of pushing an agenda.
@@MasterCrash123 Absolutely. I too find the Prophecy Speaks Of A Hero Rising Up To Save tedious. So many stories use it, and it's always bullshit. A prophecy's just a prediction, that can be interpreted in many ways. But the crucial thing about John Connor is someone has first hand experience of him being the saviour. Now time travel can alter the future but at least once John really was what's he's said to be. Unlike predicted heroes.
"The modern audience does not care about Terminator because they got burned too many times" 100% correct. Bang on the money. Further than that, the original Terminator audience does not care any more for the exact same reason.
Maybe that’s why they keep remaking the same story. Instead of trusting current audiences to go back and watch the originals, they’d rather erase the originals and present these bastardized versions as new. Smh
T3 was my favorite Terminator because it was my first Terminator movie :) so it’s the reason I fell in love with T1 and T2! And in my opinion it is the perfect terminator trilogy if you want future wars!!continue it from there with John Connor... and boom then we get some actual interesting future war shit
Steve Ozone Yep, no need to go further. I watched the 3rd on tv the other day and I was like "thank god I was too smart to spend a dime to see the so-called sequels".
Melencolia not only money but I think the fact that James Cameron was also involved as a producer made them confident enough to come back and do another.
@@jeremyroberts8822 Producer means shit. It's all about the director. Isn't Spielberg a producer or some what involved inTransformers and look at those abominations of movies. If they aint director than it don't mean shit.
vince R yea I believe Spielberg does help produce the transformers movies along with a bunch of other types of movies. As far as the producer role not meaning much well it depends because every film is different. Sometimes a producer means as little as that persons production company helped pay for some of the film, other times producers are very hands on giving notes when they see the dailies and telling the director to add this or take out that so it all just depends on the specific film.

@Morgoth Bauglir I agree with that, I liked terminator 1,2 and salvation. I also enjoyed "Sarah Connor Chronicles" And Terminator 3 (as an action movie).
Yeah, this story is laughable. Part of the plot is supposedly about people loosing their jobs to some kind of injustice. She took this man's job, his future, his existence and his franchise. That's why they had to call Eddie Furlong, they needed permission to use his face on Jude Collie because they were gonna blow him away!
Cineris thank you! Sky-net took over and John Conner just happened to be the guy to rise up and fight back as a leader which then made Skynet send a Terminator back in time to stop it. There was no prophecy or “marked child” to begin with. So really, John Conner is exactly what Tim Miller was trying to describe.
John Connor the resistance leader didn't exist anymore after the first film, because Sarah had a different kid (and called him John) with Kyle Reece instead.
or maybe Cameron just wanted Jon Connor out of Millers vision of Terminator. T1, T2 still the best. Wont see another unless Cameron directs in the timeline where Jon leads the resistance against Skynet in the future.
BelowMeGoggle exactly how I felt when they attached him to the project. Like everyone magically forgot he’s on a real big Avatar Franchise kick right now. You know, the franchise nobody wants?? LoL
@@AZEREuu Wrong, it was never about her only her son. If you ignore John then you ignore the whole plot of the first two movies. Regardless I still think we could have easily had two future war movies set where John is or isn't a big deal showing the rise and fall of Skynet. End of story.
They followed The Force Awakens formula; trying to reboot the franchise by taking the original concept and rebrand it to bring “youth and diversity” into it while hooking the original fans with original characters. It failed.
What did hollywood expect? They blacklisted most of their creative talent away from their tight little lefty club and all they got left is remakes sprinkled with wokeness that clearly only appeals to a SMALL minority of gender studies majors 😂

Don’t you just love how they think they’re being so original and progressive, despite women leads in action movies being a thing for decades. Hell, there have been female action heroes since the ancient times, the Amazons being the most famous. No one gives a shit about the gender but then, just make the movie and characters good.
Ho no ... HO NOOOO ... I did not watch the movie. I care so little that I wanted to watch this review without ever watching the movie because all terminator movies after 2 suck and all movies after 3 have been terrible B movies.... *but for fuck sake, they killed John and now a women is the "real leader" of the resistance* ... HO FUCK OFF.. I guess I made the right decision not to watch. But now I want to see it just because I have to see that trainwreck
foxglos well I mean in T3 John dies in the future anyways and his wife was the new leader of the Resistance, since she was second in command. Though thinking about it, the war against Skynet hadn’t ended so how is John meant to be the savior of humanity if he dies before the war even ended?
The worst part is they made Sarah Connor (possibly the most iconic heroine in modern cinema) into a sexist so they could have their plot twist that everyone saw coming anyway.
Without China’s help too. Joker is clearly a passion filled movie which had something to say. Every goddamn frame, you can tell. And it was made for one third this movie’s budget. Money won’t fix lack of vision. This movie had nothing to say. It was too eager to jump on the woke bandwagon which people seem to forget, has been solved for decades. Women being leads in action films is nothing new, and they think it’s a brand new gimmick, like they’re being original with it.
Troy Taylor They do, but this isn’t some indie unknown property. It’s one of the biggest action franchises of all time. This isn’t the type of movie to use that excuse.
Joker isn’t the first rated R movie to have a successful release, the point still stands that the R rating will negate at least some portion of the potential audience. other movies with easier ratings will never have to worry about this factor
Alexander Angelus terminator isn’t what it used to be, with each new film we see that people’s interest has gone done. Making it rated r did more harm than good, honestly this film could have easily been a pg13
The whole movie is a time paradox. Skynet is created from the chip of the smashed Terminator in the first film. John is born by sending his own father back in time. John Connor becomes the leader of the Human resistance because of Sarah Connor training him and his knowledge of Skynet.
@@jigawatt1.218 I had an idea for a T3 script a while back. It's basically about the multiverse theory. In our universe, we defeat Skynet. However in another universe Skynet wins the war but discovers multiverse tech to enter other universes. The reason? Same as our Skynet. Humans need to die. In this case however, this alternate Skynet wants to wipe out all Earths that have humans on them. This would ead to different terminator models (since they are from different universes), the ability for dead character to come back or evil versions of themselves like an evil Sarah Conner, for example. Lots of options to play with without destroying the T1 and T2 storylines.
Was John Conner even with his mom for long o.O she apparently died not long after the end of the second terminator movie which is why she wasn't in part 3 so it's not like she had much time with her son to even train him since he grew up his first few years without her since everyone thought she was crazy. Never actually seen him do anything in the movies as well besides being protected, so how was John Conner even trained by his mother? he was literally a bum on the run in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and couldn't even defend himself, if John did have any training it wasn't by his mom as he knew nothing about what to do until Terminator: Salvation where he finally did pick up a gun and fought back besides in the end still being protected by Marcus.
Probably the biggest mistake they ever made was trying to make Terminator a franchise. The most they should’ve done is a “prequel” in the original timeline about sending Kyle to the past, but the actors were too old to do that.
@@quiett6191 Hollywood doesn't give 2 shits about money, otherwise they wouldn't make Ghostbusters 2016, Ocean's 8, A Wrinkle in Time, this movie, etc. and they haven't learned any lesson cause they'll reboot Pirates of the Carribean and we all know why they reboot it. cause it wasn't woke like Terminator Dark Fate is.

One of my work colleagues came up to me on monday and told me how they had seen the film, and loved it. I countered that John was dead, and supposed to be the resistance leader, to which she responded that "nu-uh! Sarah is!" In essence she liked it because it did away with the lore after T2.

@@LordVader1094 You're not understanding what I'm saying either. John Connor being replaced with a female character isn't what I have a problem with, nor do I believe that if John Connor was replaced by another guy it would be just as bad as the new character, maybe worse. The gender of the character isn't the issue, nor should it ever be the issue, the issue is that the character they replaced John Connor with is uninteresting. I personally didn't want John Connor to be replaced in the 1st place, not because he's a guy, but because he was a pre-existing and interesting character with a rich history and lore. If they HAD to replace John (which they really didn't have to) a better thing they should have done is write a character that is interesting but leave the gender and race blank, then when it comes to casting allow anyone of any race or gender to audition and cast the person best fitted for the job; like what Ridley Scott did when casting the 1st Alien, he deliberately named and wrote the characters with a blank slate and hired the actors he felt were best for the job and look at what that gave us, one of the most badass characters in cinematic history that just so happens to be woman. @DejaVoodooDoll MCU have 23 films from which only one is centered around a POC protagonist and one around a female protagonist (both objectively not the best of the franchise) and were released huge crossovers (BP before infinity war and captain marvel before Endgame). They had to go out of their way to put them strategically before the proven hit character (who are all white males) to generated the objective revenue, that's hardly "diverse" outside of marking checkboxes. While diversity and inclusion can be handle in a very organic and natural way providing huge success (Blade, Alien, The original Terminator films, Wonder Woman, Alita, Creed 1 & 2 and Mad Max Fury Road), the forced/woke approach where a creator or studio try to send an ideological message, usually have horrible results (Watchmen down 200k viwers from ep 1 to ep 2, Batwoman being basically death on arrival, the Star Wars franchise on the brink of collapse and now this terminator movie which killed the overall franchise. The list goes on...). This proves that the overall ideological approach at inclusion and representation is a a complete failure in terms of profitability. People don't go to films to reenact what they are already seeing to death in mainstream media and social networks on a daily basis, they go to escape their real lifes and be entertain. The idea that current ideological debate (no matter which side you think is right), is "fun" is bizarre to say the least, and it is not born out of creative necesity but political pandering to the point where it boderlines propaganda. The "Woke" experiment failed in the entertainment arena by now, with the rise of surprise hits like the John Wick franchise or the recent Joker film, the message is clear: People want quality, focused projects without the ideological dosage of "Man/white bad, Woman/POC Good", which is a deservice for really interesting POC and female GOOD characters and creates nothing but separation and an unpleasant debate that goes beyond the context of the movies themselves (we used to deabte why Droidekas had no shields in attack of the clones, now we debate as to wheter or not Rey is a Mary sue, which she is, and if the term itself constitude a mysonegyst approach... BOOOOOOORIIIIIIING). As a Black man born in Venezuela, and currently living in Mexico city with a Mexican wife, I see this dying ideological trend in Hollywood as nothing but perversion of the artform and ultimately a tool to generate sectarism (even if is not the intention)... I remember the comment of a white, blue checkmark woman that asked about black panther: "When should I watch the film so I don't suck the black joy from the african-american audience?"... like I said, sectarism, not to bring us together but to keep us apart. Sorry for my bad english, Cheers from CDMX.
@DejaVoodooDoll Dude, diversity doesn't sell. The quality of the products matters. Why do you think Endgame dominates the box office despite not being diverse... Americans are funny, don't you think. On one hand, you have crazies saying get woke go broke. On the other, you have idiots claiming diversity sells. And do you think Hollywood's diversity is genuine and deserve so much credit??? It's interesting you use Black Panther as your example. Yes it's a hit, but if you look at the foreign reviews of the film, you would be surprised by how mediocre it was received. From sites like 豆瓣,eiga, naver, yahoo 台灣 which are the primary movie sites in China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan respectively, basically their IMDB. Black Panther among the lowest graded MCU movies, with the consensus opinions saying the film is overrated. And that's just the Asian market. "In my city, where diversity..." You sound like you are equating your own experience with Hollywood's forced fake ideology, though I give you credit for noting how pretentious they can be... Btw, in my country, diversity is natural, but I won't, forever in my life, say diversity is what people want...; at best, they are interested in seeing a different perspective, but that's not a moral choice. It's the case here; it's the case in America, and it's still the case in many places. Blame it on humanity's ignorance, bruh, but diversity doesn't sell. Without the brand, names, or quality, the latter of which is sacrificial, diversity isn't the focal point.
@@foxdie49 Star Wars on the brink of collapse? They had one movie not perform as well as expected (Solo), which was led by a white male, and the franchise is on the brink of collapse? Even though not everyone was thrilled with Last Jedi, it still made a TON of movie at the box office. I would wait a few more movies before making that declaration. It is not rare for the premiere of a T.V. show to draw unusually high numbers and then drop from there. It happens very often. A drop of 200k viewers is actually not that bad. Angry Joe is right on the money here when he says the reason Dark Fate failed is nobody cares about the franchise anymore, and the previous movies have fucked up so bad, not even fans have bothered to go see it! I love T1 and T2 and have seen every sequel, and THIS is the first one I still haven't seen because Genisys was such a pile of shit. This is the THIRD time they try to reboot the franchise...THE THIRD TIME! And by the way, Genisys did about as well as Dark Fate is doing domestically, and that movie didn't go "woke". Genisys might end up ahead thanks to international markets. I'd say you need more examples before you can draw the conclusion that going "woke" equals going broke. Despite that opening paragraph, I mostly agree that putting people of color and females in movies for the sake of pandering to the woke culture is annoying. But this is what Hollywood does. Everything is manufactured in a focus group, and movies are written to pander to whatever's "in" with the kids these days. So I'd say this is nothing new, it just happens to be the latest cultural movement. They put in POC and females the same way they put in pop culture references relevant to the target audience. I agree that when stories include these characters organically it works, but when they are shoe-horned in to make it more "diverse", it comes across as disingenuous and cringey. Specially since they probably have white males writing those characters.
@DejaVoodooDoll "Expanding your audience." No one is not acknowledging that fact, bruh. It's that people are tired of seeing Hollywood is given too much moral credits by the mainstream US media and Americans. This is just like how Hollywood include Chinese people to cater to a larger money pool, and they always act like they are being generous and virtuous??? The Hollywood that is loved by tens of millions of Americans, just different groups in different time periods... Are Americans just this dumb??? "Many businesses men do it." Because as pretentious as these greedy pigs are, they aren't as vocal as Hollywood... You got the bad, then you got the worse "Aquaman..." Because Aquaman wasn't overrated that much and got nominated for an Oscar despite being only a mediocre movie with some interesting, yet not groundbreaking, messages... "Let's not pretend Asia's completely..." When did I say Asia had, kid??? Don't blow up your nice face just yet, even if it's just a cover. Racism exists everywhere on Earth, and in my home computer, racism does plague, though not on the same level as that in the US.
Joker has proved that the “R rated” excuse is a myth
The exception isn’t the rule. R rated films have it more difficult
John Conner wasn’t a “chosen one” he was raised by Sarah Conner from birth to be a “great military leader”.
EXACTLY! There was no luck. It was hard work and dedication. Sarah Conner made John Conner the leader he was going to need to be.
Lots of options to play with without destroying the T1 and T2 storylines.
always tear down the white man
Was John Conner even with his mom for long o.O she apparently died not long after the end of the second terminator movie which is why she wasn't in part 3 so it's not like she had much time with her son to even train him since he grew up his first few years without her since everyone thought she was crazy.

In T2, it was stated a terminator is set to read only mode due to skynet not wanting them to get smart. So unless someone removed Carl's ship to set it on learn mode, there is no way I can think of on how he was able to learn to be human after his mission was completed.
"Forcing the protagonist to be a woman or girl" literally dozens of movies the last 2 years alone that force this into the script/production.
And they failed one after the other. Forcing something onto someone is always gonna fail.
Lately movies have been trying to push a liberal narrative, causing these movies to die out and lose
Genderbend every Protagonist in old movies. This trash feels like it's all affected by Politics, what a damn shame...
And next they gonna ruin my favorite franchise, when they kill james bond and then turn him into a woman
SuperMovieJunkie lol their already talk about ruining that
Wow I can’t believe they just killed John Connor like that, could you imagine if they made a new Star Wars movie and for literally no reason Luk- oh wait...
They couldn't even wait, 4 mins in they do it....
At least Luke did save the resistance and gave hope to the new generation of rebels. What they did to John Connor was a thousand times worse.
@@Zidane_Mina And Luke did become a jedi master, where as John Connor NEVER get to be the leader of the resistance. Just get blew away, HASTA LA VISTA JOHN!
bit different tho lol take away luke you still have leia and anakin, take away john connor and you have .... Star wars can exist without luke but terminator cant do without john as thats the whole point of the films, its his journey from conception to leader of humanity. Its like having anakin in epsiode 1 and 2 then killing him off in three and replacing him with a new random character and then saying episode 4,5 and 6 didnt happen, ep 1-6 is his redemption just like term 1-3 is johns rise to leader of humanity against machines.
Imagine luke dying in the beginning of return of the jedi because he got shot by a jawa. Thats what they did to john Connor.
Killing John Connor in the first few minutes was one of the biggest own goals in movie history.
Director wasnt a fan of the Chosen One...so he got rid one..and brought in another..dosent make sense.
No. He just didn't like the chosen one being a man. So he wanted it to be a woman. Which if you think about it is sexist in itself.
@@theinsurance2450 its hollywood cramming females in power down our throats a false narrative anyone could see. Im sorry but at the first sign of danger 99.9% of females are calling 911 or screaming and cant do shit. Males are generally the fighters as we are wired to be. Hollywood is just pushing this crap to have our women try to live up to that standard which in turn, turns them against men. its divide and conquer its what they have been doing to blacks and whites. Its all a master plan to wreck people. But im glad nobody is buying it and hollywood is learning fast they wont get our dollars for their forced poison
now its the chosen two...
problem solved! XD
I also feel like Tim Miller maybe didn’t pay attention to the original 2 Terminator films. John Conner was not a chosen one. Sky-net took over and John Conner just happened to be the guy to rise up and fight back as a leader which then made Skynet send a Terminator back in time to stop it. There was no prophecy or “marked child” to begin with. So really, John Conner is exactly what Tim Miller was trying to describe.
The franchise has been terminated 🤦🏾♂️

In essence she liked it because it did away with the lore after T2.

This is probably the only time I've ever been glad to have a movie spoiled for me, I can't believe they killed off John Connor right at the beginning just to replace him with a much less interesting character
I couldn't care less that he died. I just don't get how they get a woman to play his role tho lol.
@ It's not the fact that they replaced John Connor with a woman that's the problem, it's the fact that they replaced John Connor with an uninteresting character
@@SeRgEaNt_RaNdOm Exactly. It'd be just as bad (maybe worse, even) if it was another dude who replaces him.
@DejaVoodooDoll thank you.. the edge-cels are fools.
@DejaVoodooDoll
Dude, diversity doesn't sell.
"In my city, where diversity..."
You sound like you are equating your own experience with Hollywood's forced fake ideology, though I give you credit for noting how pretentious they can be...
@DejaVoodooDoll
"Expanding your audience."
No one is not acknowledging that fact, bruh.
"Many businesses men do it."

Btw, since we are talking about Hollywood, the one supported by most mainstream American media and people as being progressive, is just as bigoted as it was back in the day, right???
They just wanted a strong female character and forced it.

But you, he wasn't the chosen he was an accomplished military leader the Terminators came back in time to erase history. John Connor Great Military leader WAS history and it's curious that they didn't send back the T-1000 to assassinate John because the T-800 was marked as an obsolete design, I really hope they CAN fix (in a universe with time travel) they can, I was half expecting the last scene or post credits scene a scene of Grace putting her arms over Sarah Connor's shoulders and say but does Carl know John is still alive Kill Bill Style.
