The duties, taxes, and other costs are enormous.
that's mostly brokerage that you can take care of yourself if you want to save the money. ask the shipper to send you the customs and you'll clear it yourself, go to the closest boarder and pay for the taxes and duties there, and email or fax it to the company shipping it. it's some foot work but that's what you are paying for in the brokerage and it's usually most of the cost. i got 29 years in the industry even having family that owns a brokerage office as well.

@cal7434 Not at all. He means there are more than just one option that should be considered rather than just blindly striking out at someone. For instance, setting up a 10 mile buffer zone on each side of the border with video surveillance drones and roving unmarked patrol vehicles with each side responsible for arresting and detaining illegal entries into their own countries would be a reasonable option that could benefit both sides. Also, drug detection dogs used to sniff out contraband in postal services would help. However, cutting off energy supplies can be used as a bargaining chip if a reasonable agreement is not reached just as a tarrif can be used.

It would be one thing if Canada passed a law completely doing away with the concept of borders or citizenship. But right now theyre doing the very illegal act of ignoring illegals crossing into and out if the country, which is the same as actively undermining the law.

The answer to all these questions is obviously no, the point is none of this should be happening on the scale it is, it is also simple to stop if each country enforced their borders correctly which they did up until 30ish years ago.
