The minute I learned about John Connor in this movie I lost all interest. It's like GoT season 8, after episode 3 I gave up and read the spoiler leaks and lost all interest. Same with Rise of Skywalker, TLJ killed my hope for the new trilogy and I lost all interest. Those spoiler leaks are really fun to read.

And he never really got any credit. Reese laid the groundwork for Sarah, and she passed it down to John. And John taught his father, that is some family!

@@thadward4629 You're assuming there was an 'original timeline' where Reese didn't father John Connor. The implication of the first movie is that anything you send to the past via time travel will have already appeared BEFORE you send it. There are no alternate timelines, there is a single timeline, with a causality loop, in which Reese will always meet Sarah, John will grow up and send Reese into the past.
Of course I loved T2, but I also sort of liked Terminator: Genisys! Saw it in the theater and was actually pretty entertained, only one I really hate was Salvation! So, should I go see Deep Fake or not?... (btw: Also LOVED the ending of T3!)

Giving a movie a bad review because it didn’t go your way is a just bad review. This review was bad, yes it was a Terminator! But you forget that he was built as an infiltration unit John was bound to die eventually. In T2 extended cuts they extracted his chip and determined that it had an ability to learn. But you clipped T1 saying it doesn’t feel pity or remorse and will not stop, yet you still forget T2 crucial chip extraction scene. Fuck this review was terrible I suggest everyone to watch the movie, this was definitely better then a lot of the Mediocre action movies lately. Plus the Rev 9 was sick.
There’s this weird trend in Hollywood at the moment, where writers fetishise destroying (either by killing or compromising) beloved characters from beloved films. Jeremy nails it here when he says, do that but with your own characters. They do it for shock value, but in doing so completely disregard the how and why the series matters at all. It’s extraordinarily ignorant... If you kill John Connor in the manner they did the whole of T1 and T2 mean ZERO. They mean nothing. Worst of all, he is replaced and that character is given more screen time in half a film being a resistance leader than John Connor has ever been given. For 35 years all we’ve wanted is John Connor leading the resistance. Now the resistance doesn’t exist, but kinda does, and is lead by someone else... it’s so fucking stupid. And Carl selling drapes, living with a family, wow, my god. In fairness, that was actually magnificently enjoyable in a ‘what the hell are they doing, why are they doing this?’ Then there’s the whole multiple terminators throughout time... Kyle Reese explains in T1 that Skynet sent the T-800 back because they’d lost. It was a last roll of the dice. Kyle followed him through and it was just him and the machine... it’s beautiful in its simplicity.
We're in a 'postmodern' phase with movies it seems. Postmodernism being a fancy word for crap that thinks it's smart. I hated that stuff in books, the art is awful, the buildings look like shit and now it seems intent on ruining the medium of film.

Oh, what, at one point they’re detained trying to enter America and thrown in a camp? Now that you say it out loud I see how some may think it’s a politically motivated thing... but we just wanted to write good characters, at no point did gender or anything come into it...’ ‘Oh, you just didn’t like it because you’re racist/sexist etc’ no - people have got issues with it because you made two far superior films redundant. They think they’re being subtle, they think they’re being clever, but it’s so on the nose and obvious.
LTopomcFly I think writers do it to seem shocking and derive a kind of weird pleasure out of winding people up. They, the writer, are the ones who get the satisfaction and gratification from being controversial.
I think it's more about, "Well, we can't come up with anything new ourselves or live with the possibility of our new thing crashing and burning, so let's just redo established stories and franchises, but with female and/or non-white characters, so we don't have to think about it.". It's feels more like laziness in the name of wokeness than shock value.

None of their struggle is worth anything, the sacrifice of the terminator being lowered into the molten steel means nothing, Sarah and Kyle getting together in the first place has absolutely no meaning whatsoever. It was one of the worst send offs for these characters you could ever do.
I think after this shit! People will actually now go back AND watch T3" RISE OF THE MACHINES " and realise that, that was actually a perfect ending for the franchise and a well rounded trilogy had it been left there,,, But noooooo people bitching about T3 so much they carried on and brought out more which have been worse

Agreed it was good it deserves it 6.5/7 out of 10 that it’s been given. The new REV 9 was awesome, it was action packed, from start to end, and the fight scenes were just awesome. Compared to some of these new action movies lately it was refreshing and I enjoyed it. Everyone is so salty about John Connors death, the t800/model 101 was built as an INFILTRATION unit and it was bound to carry out its mission eventually to kill John.
Really? His arguments don't hold much weight and it doesn't seem like he put that much thought into the movie. I'm also a life long terminator fan.(26 years) I don't get the TDF makes T1 and T2 pointless argument. You can't get to TDF without T1 and T2. John led the resistance to victory which led to Kyle and the Terminators being sent back in time. That leads to Sarah, Uncle Bob and John stopping Skynet's creation and saving/extending 3 billion lives. The only reason there is another savior is because 3 billion lives were saved. Dani and Grace wouldn't exist without John Connor. As for Legion's creation and the start of another future war. It's like Uncle Bob and John said in T2. Uncle Bob: It's in your nature to destroy yourselves. John Connor: Yeah, major drag huh. As for Skynet sending back Carl and other Terminators. Carl was sent back from 2029 to 1998. When Carl was sent back Judgement Day happened in 1997. So Skynet sent Carl back a year after the bombs dropped to kill John before he could start the resistance. Just in case the original T800 and the T1000 failed their missions. However due to the events of T2, Carl arrives in a 1998 where the bombs never fell. If Carl succeeded and Killed John post Judgement Day. He would probably have reported back to Skynet creating a new loop. This is when Skynet would first learn about John Connor, the T800 and the time displacement machine. Each Terminator that arrives after John's death was suppose to arrive during the Future War. Why? Honestly, I don't know. Anyway, as for Carl assimilating into society and having a family. Terminators are infiltration units, they aren't just efficient killing machines. They're programmed to blend in and learn/adapt based off their interactions. We don't know why Carl decided to help Alicia and her son, but based on his default programing, we do know that Carl would try to assimilate into society in some way. What Kyle Reese says in T1 is him trying to drive into Sarah's head that this is not a man, it's a machine programmed to kill you and until you are dead he will not stop. Not to mention Kyle also says that "these things are new" when talking about the T101. Kyle hasn't had enough interactions with a T101 to know that it can learn and become more human. Even if he did have that kind of intelligence on the T101, Kyle is still right. If a Terminator is programmed to do something, it will not stop until its finished its mission. Carl is what Uncle Bob would have become if he didn't go into the pool of molten steele. At the end of T2. Uncle Bob was starting to understand human emotions to the point that he tells John, "I know now why you cry, but it's something I can never do." Sucks he couldn't get past the first part of the movie, but most of the arguments in this video fall apart when you think about them.

When me and my dad went to see the film in theaters and John was killed, we we're sooooo pissed. And a guy and his girlfriend got up and left, and somebody else sweared very loudly and he got up and left. And what makes me more angry is that James Cameron destroyed his own creation.

As bad as terminator films T3 and T4 are. The overall premise and overarching story does at least progress in it. Also does anyone feel like legion is a vastly inferior as when compared to skynet.

There’s this French Terminator die-hard fan, Florent Abougit, who actually wrote a great script for T5 and T6, which continued the original story, connected all previous 4 movies and made a lot of loopholes logical. He tried everything he could to have it produced, but 1) No one knows him in Hollywood, so he’s not in any writers guild or shit like that, and 2) Everyone laughed at him because he’s French, so no one would help him save the franchise. It’s sad, because his story was awesome, and would have saved the franchise...
Kind of what happens when the studio decides to kill off the central character of the franchise. Audiences don't respond well to that. When I heard they killed off John, there was no way I was seeing this.

The reason T2 focusing on protecting John Connor was to protect human race's future. And they've done that, they've killed SKynet. They've done best that they could done during T2. So to me, the rest terminator movies shouldn't be about John Connor anymore. I found that it's actually a good writing to kill John at the beginning in this movie. Hopefully in future, they will explain why there was another T800 came to kill John. To me, it's better to leave something mysterious and unexplained instead of making up something that doesnt make sense like T3 2003.
5:00 fun fact, they later explained in other lore that the reason they didn't make like A LOT of T-1000's is that basically they were scared of it. It had the potential to basically become smarter then skynet which is why they reverted to more easily controlled models. I mean when you think about it, the T-1000 is a mix of the concept of the "Singularity" and the "Grey Goo" event...........why the hell haven't they done that in a terminator movie yet.

Hot take: I didn't hate Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. I mean, it wasn't good, but it was more "bad sequel bad" and I don't think it retroactively ruined anything the way the Star Wars sequels did. Like I walked out thinking "I mean, the next one could still be kind of interesting," whereas with Last Jedi, it felt like "no seriously, where DO you go from here?" I'll admit that's kind of praising the bare minimum, but if I can do that for one and not the other, isn't that more an indictment on the other?
Fallen Kingdom went back to the books, Prequels were always good, Terminator shouldn't have had dark fate made and let the Sarah Connor chronicles continue.

I remember in the first terminator movie when Kyle was explaining the future to Sarah, he said that the war was basically over and the machines sent the t-800 back in time in a last ditch effort to kill off John before he was born

I saw the de ageing effects and was like that looks legit, this movie may be awesome.. que 5 seconds later and my face dropped and the eye rolls commenced.
that CGI was legit suspect.... Linda Hamilton de aging looked good until her reaction to John, de-aging John and Arnie was awful. also the cgi with the REV-9 vs Grace through out the movie was terrible it was T3 ROTM levels of bad.

Actually James Cameron came up with that idea and pitched it to Tim Miller. He said so himself in interviews and in the behind the scenes of Dark Fate.
I was laughing out loud throughout this video. Spot on Kyle Reese impersonation, and the bit with Arnold talking to John at the end of T2 had me in stitches.
This is better than Rise of the Machines (thank god). It's sort of like Salvation. That got a lot of flag, but McG actually made a decent action movie. ` The thing is movies like the Matrix and T2 are on a lonely height in innovation and story that any sequel will look bad.
T3 is OP, but the film is so old that Hollywood already forgot how they F'ed up with that film and likely dont even recognize it. Terminator Salvation is only Terminator in name. Film was ok to me, because by 2009 it seemed like James Cameron was never going to Direct Terminators again and the chance of seeing Eddie Furlong was a pipe dream. I made due with Christian Bale being the new JC. Plus there was no Arnold so Salvation was the only film that didn't prod on the legacy films it felt like a real reboot. But crazily dumb critics panned it. Terminator Genisys, was when I completely stopped caring about the franchise.
I agree with you on a lot of this. The biggest problem that I have with Dark Fate is the background story that they gave to Arnold's Terminator. How does an advanced killer robot disguised as a human just up blend in with society for 22 years, get married, adopt a child and start a business. It pretty much undoes everything that happened / was established in T1 & T2. It's also probably because it's been so freaking long since T2 came out. The Franchise itself / multiple time lines have become increasingly convoluted

Present JC is a character, and he served his purpose. He had his arc, achieved his goal, and now...that's it. There's no need for him anymore. And God forbid a terminator terminates someone in a Terminator movie lol. Im actually thrilled they did that...right out of nowhere, to one of the most important people in the orevious films. Like...good. Show us the threat is still real, remind us that terminators are fucking terrifying. That move is exactly in the spirit of Terminator, no problems at all. The ending of the second film made it clear that the future where JC becomes a hero isnt the future anymore. They stopped it. That was the actual plot. Sounds like y'all just mad u didnt get some kinda wish fulfillment for sonething that wasn't even promised in the first place...n maybe just forgot u were watching a real Terminator movie. I say all this because there's other real issues to focus on. Not this one. This is a trivial grievance. This isnt Newt getting killed offscreen before she had time to shine, or Luke betraying the very character we watched him become. This is just a completed character reminding us what movie we're watching. And btw, both Sarah Connor and Carl benefited from this move, narratively. It added to both characters...and btw it's their franchise, not John's. We've been following both Sarah and the Terminators right from the beginning. John (the character) existed in one film and is nobody but a stand-in cool 90s kid for people with daddy issues to project themselves on to, and John (the ideal) is a plot mechanic...and John (retconned timeline) is either a little weasly nobody or a loony toon, and both of those are FAR bigger insults to the character than having a Terminator do to him what it says they do on the box art.

The implication of the first movie is that anything you send to the past via time travel will have already appeared BEFORE you send it. There are no alternate timelines, there is a single timeline, with a causality loop, in which Reese will always meet Sarah, John will grow up and send Reese into the past.

Giving a movie a bad review because it didn’t go your way is a just bad review. This review was bad, yes it was a Terminator! But you forget that he was built as an infiltration unit John was bound to die eventually. In T2 extended cuts they extracted his chip and determined that it had an ability to learn. But you clipped T1 saying it doesn’t feel pity or remorse and will not stop, yet you still forget T2 crucial chip extraction scene. Fuck this review was terrible I suggest everyone to watch the movie, this was definitely better then a lot of the Mediocre action movies lately. Plus the Rev 9 was sick.

There’s this weird trend in Hollywood at the moment, where writers fetishise destroying (either by killing or compromising) beloved characters from beloved films. Jeremy nails it here when he says, do that but with your own characters. They do it for shock value, but in doing so completely disregard the how and why the series matters at all. It’s extraordinarily ignorant...
If you kill John Connor in the manner they did the whole of T1 and T2 mean ZERO. They mean nothing. Worst of all, he is replaced and that character is given more screen time in half a film being a resistance leader than John Connor has ever been given. For 35 years all we’ve wanted is John Connor leading the resistance. Now the resistance doesn’t exist, but kinda does, and is lead by someone else... it’s so fucking stupid.
And Carl selling drapes, living with a family, wow, my god. In fairness, that was actually magnificently enjoyable in a ‘what the hell are they doing, why are they doing this?’
Then there’s the whole multiple terminators throughout time... Kyle Reese explains in T1 that Skynet sent the T-800 back because they’d lost. It was a last roll of the dice. Kyle followed him through and it was just him and the machine... it’s beautiful in its simplicity.
We're in a 'postmodern' phase with movies it seems. Postmodernism being a fancy word for crap that thinks it's smart.
I hated that stuff in books, the art is awful, the buildings look like shit and now it seems intent on ruining the medium of film.

I think it's more about, "Well, we can't come up with anything new ourselves or live with the possibility of our new thing crashing and burning, so let's just redo established stories and franchises, but with female and/or non-white characters, so we don't have to think about it.". It's feels more like laziness in the name of wokeness than shock value.

None of their struggle is worth anything, the sacrifice of the terminator being lowered into the molten steel means nothing, Sarah and Kyle getting together in the first place has absolutely no meaning whatsoever. It was one of the worst send offs for these characters you could ever do.

I don't get the TDF makes T1 and T2 pointless argument. You can't get to TDF without T1 and T2. John led the resistance to victory which led to Kyle and the Terminators being sent back in time. That leads to Sarah, Uncle Bob and John stopping Skynet's creation and saving/extending 3 billion lives.
The only reason there is another savior is because 3 billion lives were saved. Dani and Grace wouldn't exist without John Connor.
As for Legion's creation and the start of another future war. It's like Uncle Bob and John said in T2.
Uncle Bob: It's in your nature to destroy yourselves.
John Connor: Yeah, major drag huh.
As for Skynet sending back Carl and other Terminators.
Carl was sent back from 2029 to 1998. When Carl was sent back Judgement Day happened in 1997. So Skynet sent Carl back a year after the bombs dropped to kill John before he could start the resistance. Just in case the original T800 and the T1000 failed their missions. However due to the events of T2, Carl arrives in a 1998 where the bombs never fell.
If Carl succeeded and Killed John post Judgement Day. He would probably have reported back to Skynet creating a new loop. This is when Skynet would first learn about John Connor, the T800 and the time displacement machine.
Each Terminator that arrives after John's death was suppose to arrive during the Future War. Why? Honestly, I don't know.
Anyway, as for Carl assimilating into society and having a family. Terminators are infiltration units, they aren't just efficient killing machines. They're programmed to blend in and learn/adapt based off their interactions. We don't know why Carl decided to help Alicia and her son, but based on his default programing, we do know that Carl would try to assimilate into society in some way.
What Kyle Reese says in T1 is him trying to drive into Sarah's head that this is not a man, it's a machine programmed to kill you and until you are dead he will not stop. Not to mention Kyle also says that "these things are new" when talking about the T101. Kyle hasn't had enough interactions with a T101 to know that it can learn and become more human. Even if he did have that kind of intelligence on the T101, Kyle is still right. If a Terminator is programmed to do something, it will not stop until its finished its mission.
Carl is what Uncle Bob would have become if he didn't go into the pool of molten steele. At the end of T2. Uncle Bob was starting to understand human emotions to the point that he tells John, "I know now why you cry, but it's something I can never do."
Sucks he couldn't get past the first part of the movie, but most of the arguments in this video fall apart when you think about them.

There’s this French Terminator die-hard fan, Florent Abougit, who actually wrote a great script for T5 and T6, which continued the original story, connected all previous 4 movies and made a lot of loopholes logical. He tried everything he could to have it produced, but 1) No one knows him in Hollywood, so he’s not in any writers guild or shit like that, and 2) Everyone laughed at him because he’s French, so no one would help him save the franchise. It’s sad, because his story was awesome, and would have saved the franchise...

Kind of what happens when the studio decides to kill off the central character of the franchise. Audiences don't respond well to that. When I heard they killed off John, there was no way I was seeing this.
To be fair the Terminator series started to die with T3. Too bad it was a slow death. They went out on a whimper instead of a bang.
I don't understand how in the world those douchebags can miss the Terminator's formula. It's so simple to please the fans and make money with it. No need to hire the Matrix Revolution team. Recipe: Put a Shotgun and a machine gun in Arnold's hand; Put a bunch of cops trying to kill him, Arnold kills everyone. Done. But they wanted to put powerpuff girls on it. Well Go Woke, Go broke.

The reason T2 focusing on protecting John Connor was to protect human race's future. And they've done that, they've killed SKynet. They've done best that they could done during T2. So to me, the rest terminator movies shouldn't be about John Connor anymore. I found that it's actually a good writing to kill John at the beginning in this movie. Hopefully in future, they will explain why there was another T800 came to kill John. To me, it's better to leave something mysterious and unexplained instead of making up something that doesnt make sense like T3 2003.

5:00 fun fact, they later explained in other lore that the reason they didn't make like A LOT of T-1000's is that basically they were scared of it. It had the potential to basically become smarter then skynet which is why they reverted to more easily controlled models. I mean when you think about it, the T-1000 is a mix of the concept of the "Singularity" and the "Grey Goo" event...........why the hell haven't they done that in a terminator movie yet.

Hot take: I didn't hate Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. I mean, it wasn't good, but it was more "bad sequel bad" and I don't think it retroactively ruined anything the way the Star Wars sequels did. Like I walked out thinking "I mean, the next one could still be kind of interesting," whereas with Last Jedi, it felt like "no seriously, where DO you go from here?"
I'll admit that's kind of praising the bare minimum, but if I can do that for one and not the other, isn't that more an indictment on the other?
Fallen Kingdom went back to the books, Prequels were always good, Terminator shouldn't have had dark fate made and let the Sarah Connor chronicles continue.

I've never seen a greater 180 turn in a character(Luke Skywalker). From courageous to coward who over doses on the force and dies. He went from confronting the emperor to save his father to wanting to slice his nephew in the middle of the night.

that CGI was legit suspect.... Linda Hamilton de aging looked good until her reaction to John, de-aging John and Arnie was awful. also the cgi with the REV-9 vs Grace through out the movie was terrible it was T3 ROTM levels of bad.

Actually James Cameron came up with that idea and pitched it to Tim Miller. He said so himself in interviews and in the behind the scenes of Dark Fate.

T3 is OP, but the film is so old that Hollywood already forgot how they F'ed up with that film and likely dont even recognize it.
Terminator Salvation is only Terminator in name. Film was ok to me, because by 2009 it seemed like James Cameron was never going to Direct Terminators again and the chance of seeing Eddie Furlong was a pipe dream. I made due with Christian Bale being the new JC. Plus there was no Arnold so Salvation was the only film that didn't prod on the legacy films it felt like a real reboot. But crazily dumb critics panned it.
Terminator Genisys, was when I completely stopped caring about the franchise.

I agree with you on a lot of this. The biggest problem that I have with Dark Fate is the background story that they gave to Arnold's Terminator. How does an advanced killer robot disguised as a human just up blend in with society for 22 years, get married, adopt a child and start a business. It pretty much undoes everything that happened / was established in T1 & T2. It's also probably because it's been so freaking long since T2 came out. The Franchise itself / multiple time lines have become increasingly convoluted

Future JC is a macguffin that existed to drive the plot, not a character. There is no future JC character (fuck Genesis).
Present JC is a character, and he served his purpose. He had his arc, achieved his goal, and now...that's it. There's no need for him anymore.
And God forbid a terminator terminates someone in a Terminator movie lol. Im actually thrilled they did that...right out of nowhere, to one of the most important people in the orevious films. Like...good. Show us the threat is still real, remind us that terminators are fucking terrifying. That move is exactly in the spirit of Terminator, no problems at all.
The ending of the second film made it clear that the future where JC becomes a hero isnt the future anymore. They stopped it. That was the actual plot. Sounds like y'all just mad u didnt get some kinda wish fulfillment for sonething that wasn't even promised in the first place...n maybe just forgot u were watching a real Terminator movie.
I say all this because there's other real issues to focus on. Not this one. This is a trivial grievance. This isnt Newt getting killed offscreen before she had time to shine, or Luke betraying the very character we watched him become. This is just a completed character reminding us what movie we're watching.
And btw, both Sarah Connor and Carl benefited from this move, narratively. It added to both characters...and btw it's their franchise, not John's. We've been following both Sarah and the Terminators right from the beginning. John (the character) existed in one film and is nobody but a stand-in cool 90s kid for people with daddy issues to project themselves on to, and John (the ideal) is a plot mechanic...and John (retconned timeline) is either a little weasly nobody or a loony toon, and both of those are FAR bigger insults to the character than having a Terminator do to him what it says they do on the box art.
