Try using the ends from the standard Axial Scx24 shocks on your double barrel shocks. They will screw on and they give improved articulation and help alleviate binding issues.
I ordered a set of 51 mm shocks and I was having some binding issues I had to come back to this video and reference your steps removing the O-rings and running them upside down is a must
Hey Adam, Great presentation! I am newly returning to the RC hobby and picked up a SCX 24 Gladiator this weekend based on your video and tips. I dove in and went all in on new shocks employing your tips. The performance increase is nothing short of amazing. Thank you sir!
Thanks for helping me out with the issues I was having with my rigs, and a bigger thanks for all the how-tos, tips and tricks to make a better crawler.
Hey buddy, thank you so much for your tips, I was going mad trying to setup my 48mn shocks on my C10, I was ready to give up and put the originals back on, but, thanks to this video I dialed in the shocks perfectly, your last rubber bands tip is awesome, I'm running them with the original springs, positioned on the rail, not the posts, rubber bands front and back, best of both worlds, stops the nose lifting and the back axle going under when climbing up and still gives me all of the extra travel going over obstacles, my C10 went from a decent crawler to an unstoppable force of the crawling gods!!!! Thanks man
Dude this is aggravating. We shouldn't have to put rubber bands and flip them upside down especially for something we pay are hard earned money for. Why are people acting like this is normal and ok. Maybe the company should just make something that works
Danngit, wish I seen this video sooner. I just got my first scx24 second hand, it already had these double barrel shocks and I HATE THEM. just got shorter oil shocks yesterday for it but now I'm thinking I want to try these tricks before I switch over. Thank you!
I’ve found you don’t really need limiting straps as long as you run the double barrels in the rear and then regular shocks without springs up front. It’s built in limiting ;)
Some great tips man, excellent video!! I found that my best set up with the double barrel shocks was actually to use the stock spring on them, works great at keeping the original ride hight and its really easy to adjust the hight too.. that paired up with the upside down shocks made a night and day difference for me
I also found the stock springs on telescopic shocks to be great! I use stock rear shocks and extended front shocks with the stock spring. That way when I come over an obstacle my front tires try to reach down much further so I get high centered less often and with the stock springs it doesn’t flip backwards. Using the long springs that come with the telescopic shocks REALLY decreases performance because the spring makes your ride height way way too high
I love the one o ring idea. The looseness of the articulation makes perfect sense. I used your idea with the linkage as well-specifically the injora high clearance, 4 link linkage. I only run one o ring on my belly dragger's linkage. It really loosens up the articulation and allows the axle to move much more freely. Would love to hear your thoughts on this
Hey Adam…. Just picked up a yellow JLU today. You’ve givin me an articulating brainstorm to apply. My real JKU will never flex like that, but thanks for the awesome goals you’ve presented. SOLID BRO 💪😎👊
Rigid springs are needed for those cases when you want to install shock absorbers not vertically, but at a very large angle, almost horizontally. Then it makes sense.
Great video man it was extremely helpful in my shock setup .I’m new to the scx 24 and crawlers in general I’m running long travel shocks upside down with no springs and I did the o ring trick it works so great now . Great info! 🤙🤘
Just ordered the Furitek brushed/brushless esc and brushless motor, that comes with the aluminum transmission case for my JLU to get rid of the Spektrum stuff. I hope it will pair with my Sanwa m17.
All I do is put a small nut behind the the top of the shock.. seems to work perfectly.. if yourr ocd like me.. putting your shocks upside down is out of the question.. lol.. awesome videos man.. so much good information.
I changed where I mounted my 51mm shocks and brought the ride height down a bit more but I think ima try the no springs method cause it did increase the body height
Hey man how are ya. So I took this mod and used it on the links as well. If you test the twist of your rig in your hand, you can tell that near the end of the flex its starting to bind. That is the links Orings binding and stopping the full flex of these lil rigs. Took mine off and its unreal how far its able to flex now. Its pretty awesome.
Thank you for sharing. Just so happens I just purchased the same 3 Axial rigs for the family. This Video just answered the Questions I had regarding Lifting and Articulating the machines. The 43mm shocks have been ordered. I do have weight kits just need to get them installed. I guess the next step will be Tires. What Tires and size are you running on the Gladiator in this Vid. I really like the set up..
This tips are definitely going to be helpful. I’ve been working on mofo lcg gladiator build. No a single stock part left on this thing lol and the shocks are the one thing I’m not 100% happy with. Never used the 43mm shocks until this build and your tips with definitely help because I didn’t like how much they bind. Guess I’ll be back at the bench today working. On this thing for hours 😂
Thanks for watching! I have the mofo chassis on my deadbolt. I was having binding issues early but it turned out to be my linkage and not the shocks. Once I got the links right, the suspension worked great. That chassis has so many options for shock placement you should be able to find a spot for smooth operation easy enough. You can see how I mounted mine in the deadbolt build video.
Hey Ricky. Just reading some old comments. Have you tried spacing the upper mount out off the frame/mounting point. I often use two spare grommets from pivot balls or even an extra axle nut. Just that 1 or 2 mm of spacing off really helps. I have many sets of double barrels and on one or two sets I have also had to sand the lower barrel to get smoother action. Good luck
Hey Adam, I put the 43 mm RC Lions shocks on my sxc24 and the front of my truck looks great but for some reason the back of my truck is sagging down all the way to the body. Any suggestions?
You can try mounting those shocks to different locations to try to get the back end sitting level. You can also experiment with different springs/lengths. Sometimes you can use the harder springs that come with the shocks and trim them to a shorter length to get the height you want
I've turned shocks upside down for many years on all my vehicles that will allow it.. because cheap ones from overseas leak, and although very minor, more weight is positioned down low.
Hey so I just put injora high clearance links and emax servo an I have the injora shocks for my scx24 c10 and I think I like it more than my other rc cars all around fun just need to figure out a faster motor for bogging it
Hello, I’ve been watching your videos on how to build an indoor crawling course. I am a single father and have been getting into the rc world with my 3year old, he’s been in love since I got him his first rc. Now we have just in the back yard a kids pool in the basement for construction equipment. Not I just got him a mini losi. I want to build a track for that and a crawling course. I’m looking at the dead bolt but can’t decide the 24th or the 10th. I see what you did with the budget gladiator, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what I should do the the deadbolt to get the most out of it without going all out like your did with the other gladiator.
Hey Adam, this is Adam! I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time and have gotten into 24th scale crawling. I entirely blame you! 😂. Since you have built many many rigs in the past, I figured I would as your opinion. What do you feel the best rig is to buy and custom build for crawling competitions?
Can you detail the shock setup on the C10, or maybe provide some links for the suspension? I like the idea of using the stock springs but adding more articulation a lot.
Sure! In this video, I am using the stock front shocks but mounted to the frame. It's a quick trick to add more axle drop without buying any new parts. In the back, I am running 43mm Injora shocks (amzn.to/3FP4lkf). These are also frame mounted to allow for lots of axle drop. But this is where stock springs come into play. I install the stock springs on the long travel shocks to keep the ride height down. Otherwise mounting these long shocks to the frame would severely lift the chassis, which we don't want. Stock springs, or no springs at all, counteract this.
i used a mix of grease with a drop or two of oil making sure the mix coats the shock shaft slightly as i compress/play with the fully assembled shock, and use a small spacer between all shock-to-chassis placements. not on axle!
I have a question I added the injora double barrel shocks (43mm) on my c10 and with the added length of the shocks the driveshaft rattles and is not smooth. It is like the universal joint is to steep how can I fix this?
Hello from the south Sahara, lol on a real note great info for these little crawlers, a lot of useful stuff. Definitely might tweak a couple things and see if it makes a difference in performance compared to my current build.
I just did a full build on my gladiator scx24, i went with the injura trans and driveshafts though, crappy thing is, the driveshaft was not tapped properly, and when i went to thread in the screw it snapped 🥲 it was on the trans side,...do you have any experience with this happening? if so do you know a solution? I was thinking i might have to drill it??? Keep up the great content Adam 🙂
Bummer!! I have experienced this but never had much luck retrieving the screw unfortunately. Here are some of the methods I was recommended: superglue the tip of your screwdriver to the broken screw, then when it dries try to remove it. Try threading a screw in from the other side to push it out. Finally, drilling it out may be the last resort.
I’m trying to modify a FMS Smasher for crawling. I really feel like those shocks are doing the opposite of your suggestions. I wonder if I should just remove the springs…
My first rig is the wpl c24-1. The things i have had to do to Mod it to work right is insane. I want one of these. think maybe gladiator might be a better choice. Then just pull the springs out. Change Electronics, I have a controller an 30a esc brushed. And i have a 21g all metal waterproof dspower servo. Would that work ? I don't have a bunch extra parts cause i am new. So i have to be careful what i do.
Id put my scx24 on the double Barrels with springs cuz ill get alluminum axles for christmas. They might not be necessarie but my axle kinda cracked (its hold zogethere by glue) so i think the Center of gravity will be fine. Ill still try both with and without springs
What shocks do you have on your yellow Jeep? I got internal spring shocks but want new ones. Also got some injora parts on the way, I got a Emax servo and some High clearance links!
Appreciate all the tips, Love watching your videos, doing a build now with a new grasshopper chassis carbon fiber this chassis going in my gray bronco. I will be following for more 👍👍😎
Hi, i follow your channel any month and like your amazing videos with tipps about all upgrades for the axial scx24. I will also upgrade my scx24 gladiator as first project with some wheels, tires and brass parts. As second project i will built a scx24 Rock Bouncer on base of a Furitek OLYMPUS Chassi. Your good Tipps and Tricks are very helpfully for my coming videos about the scx24 with upgrades or the complete custom built scx24 second project. So i will thank you so much because you make a great job and only a fast klick on Thumbs up is not enough here as feedback for you. I also make RC Videos since 2010 and know how much work it is. Wish you a nice weekend. Greetz Andy ( @Modellbau-Kanal from German Model Building Channel )
G'day m8....ive these same shocks i got from aliexpress, have a look ol son, it puts amazon to shame, when it comes to these little buggers. The upside down and limit straps is the answer iv been looking for for my next project, i got new brass links (8 links in all no y link and approx 10-15mm longer for $17usd) and a F150 TF2 new Body for about( $10usd). im on a fixed medical pension so money is tight, so if can afford no-name parts to still do my hobby,... so be it!!. Cheers m8 for solid 20min of info from a fresh sub here Downunder😎🤯
What’s the best shocks for for crawling do u want lots of flex or just decent flex ? Trying to build a good crawler but struggling with the shocks I can’t figure out my suspension
Hi! I just bought the ford and the chevy trx4m traxxas for me and my son, with an upgraded servo to srt dt-06 as adviced by the dealer. May I ask if the shocks needs to be filled with oil? Some people say that they prefer the empty stock ones. If it l needs oil, what oil should I use? Is there a video on how to do this? I have some oil from my slash, but not sure if it’s the right one. Thank you so much!
These are just friction damped and do not need oil. There are some oil filled shocks available for the SCX24 though. If you do get an oil shock, I recommend 20wt oil. These little things don't need a very thick oil
Thanks for sharing. I’m starting a channel with similar ideas. Love yours and some others out there so much great content and positive vibes. Comment on limit strap location. Once four linked. Certain brand cervo trays allow you to put one of the Hyme joints (Brass end for links) right in between the two screws that hold the links to the rear of the cervo tray. One really long and one medium so the screw ends aren’t binding on each other seems to work best. 🤔 Thanks again, maybe ill make a video explaining it 😆
Thanks! Regarding the limiting straps: this is a great idea. I never thought about it prior, but using one of the extra pivot balls from the linkage sets in between the servo mounts would be an ideal way to mount the straps!
@@CapeCrawlers yeah I had trouble on my first try. I was butt two screw ends together and wallowed out one hole one one side. 😑 oh well. Also I use the braided external sheeth drone led core fishing line cause it just looks so nice. Tied a couple bowline to get the size right and viola
Hey boss I upgraded my dif covers and few more things but after my dif covers and my dif came apart and I put it back together for some reason won’t drive anymore, I’m pretty sure I put everything back together right, it was a bit difficult to get servo back into dif but now it’s seems to be locked up or something I can’t figure it’s out. It’s brand new just did the upgrades now not working…
Hey legend! What wheels and spaces are you using on the yellow SCX24 Just ordered the exact same shocks and now my body doesn't want to stay down (removed springs and changed the o-rings as instructed Want spacers and bigger wheels so I can go wider now
On the yellow JLU I’m running the rc4wd stamped steelies with the hubs reversed. Also running the mofo RC extended axles with heavy hexes. They are +5mm I believe.
7:29 that REALLY helped me i had them as tight as could be. Also a question i had. the injora double barrels come with black and extra gold barrels what is the difference? im running the gold ones
Glad it helped! I am not sure if there is a difference in the extra barrels. I run the black ones on my Injora's. They look identical, just different colors.
Hey Adam, sorry for the many questions and comments I have, but it would be awesome if you could answer this. Have you had any problems with the v2 technologies? Thank you.
No worries, ask away! My gladiator and JLU have been pretty bullet proof. However, my sons gladiator had a number of issues. We replaced three escs in about as many weeks. He would spontaneously lose the ability to reverse, or go forward, or both. Thankfully it seems to be working great on this last esc which we’ve had for about six weeks now.
Great video! I've been looking for tips on improving my movement! Do you have custom foam in your JLU and blue gladiator? Or did you soften the tires? They look super soft! Thanks!
I use the crawler innovation micro foams. They’re ultra soft! I use the medium compound in the gladiator and soft in the JLU. I vent the tires and when combined with the soft foams, makes for a super soft and squishy setup.
@@CapeCrawlers thanks for your reply, aiming to go for the same exact setup Do you have a list you've made? Also, what length shocks did you go for the RCLions, looks like they have two stages of travel? Thanks heaps man! Really appreciate the support.
Hey love your videos! I just installed all 4 HR dbl barrel shocks on my c10 and my drive shaft keeps falling apart. Will limiting straps fix this issue?
How do your shocks drop so fast and easy. I have Hot Racing 43mm oil vs, with no oil. Mine won’t settle and drop slow. Do you have an oil wt you recommend for these little trucks?
I don't run any oil in mine. Only occasionally will I put some grease on the shaft and that's it. I rely on the weight of the axles to drop them quickly.
In my experience it doesn't. Your spring selection will impact your dampening, but running them inverted or traditional shouldnt impact the dampening. I personally dont notice a difference.
Are you running the o rings on your links? How about your lower shock mounts? I am trying to figure out how to get all of that awesome articulation Thanks!

Those Injora shocks come with spacers you can use to help make the shocks more vertical so they don’t bind. Don’t need to run them upside down.

I really feel like those shocks are doing the opposite of your suggestions. I wonder if I should just remove the springs…
I typically remove the springs right away. I did the same with my FCX's
Best thing to do is try all the options and see what you like! Tinkering is the best part 👍
@@CapeCrawlers Yeah defo gonna do that. Might aswell try on Stock springs
What shocks do you have on your yellow Jeep? I got internal spring shocks but want new ones. Also got some injora parts on the way, I got a Emax servo and some High clearance links!
I have hot racing telescopic shocks on the JLU. I like them a lot!
Thank you for making these videos I find them really helpful
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Appreciate all the tips, Love watching your videos, doing a build now with a new grasshopper chassis carbon fiber this chassis going in my gray bronco. I will be following for more 👍👍😎
Sounds awesome! Thanks for watching and I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Thank you Andy! I really appreciate that. Enjoy your builds!
Ali express has crazy deals! I’m just too impatient to wait for the long shipping times 🤣 Thanks for the support!
Awesome! Love the Mopar lift kit box too 🔥🔥
Thanks! I put the Mopar lift on my JT rubicon and loved the crate. I’m so glad I found a good use for it!
Hello from southeast alaska thanks for all the good info
Watching multiple suspension videos of yours, I do not see any mention of oil weight inside the shock... Do 1/24 shocks Not run dampening oil?
Great tips i have a couple of those issues, great vid start to finish, and cool rigs also.👍👍
Thanks for watching! I hope the tips helped!
What’s the best shocks for for crawling do u want lots of flex or just decent flex ? Trying to build a good crawler but struggling with the shocks I can’t figure out my suspension
What brand and size tires are you running on the Rubicon? Love the way it looks!
RC4WD scamblers
Love it,gonna have to do some of this 😀😀👍👍
Thanks for watching! Let me know how it goes!
Thanks I'm going to try that.
Bought the rc loins shocks for my bronco should be here tmr!
Let me know how they work! These tips should help you sort those out 👍🏻
I can’t wait to try this!
Great video as always!
Thanks for watching!
@@CapeCrawlers Great! I will check what shocks will make as an upgrade for the trx4m. Thank you so much!
Great vid, was wondering where you bought the shocks on the yellow jeep?
They are RClions from Amazon: amzn.to/3ZsxrNn
I guess what I saying is what motor upgrades would you recommend
Check out the Mofo RC buzzsaw. It's much faster than stock but still crawls pretty well. Plus it's a direct bolt in!
Thanks again, maybe ill make a video explaining it 😆
Hey legend! What wheels and spaces are you using on the yellow SCX24
Just ordered the exact same shocks and now my body doesn't want to stay down (removed springs and changed the o-rings as instructed
Want spacers and bigger wheels so I can go wider now
On the yellow JLU I’m running the rc4wd stamped steelies with the hubs reversed. Also running the mofo RC extended axles with heavy hexes. They are +5mm I believe.
I am trying to suss out link options and driveshafts for my Dead bolt. Where is snagletooth!?
Hey Adam, I am wondering if you know. Does the Injora 43mm Aluminium Threaded Tele Shock Absorber Damper for 1/24 fit the CR-18P? (Trail Hunter)
You would need to run them without the pivot hardware. The screws on the T-hunter are bigger and wont fit through the pivot balls on the scx24 shocks
@@CapeCrawlers Thanks mate, much appreciate the info!
What kind of axles do you have on those? I'm trying to look for extra wide axles.
Hey where did you buy all the little 3d printed trim parts for the Gladiator? (Hinges, mirrors, etc)
Etsy for the most part. Adaptiv3 designs is my go-to shop.
Love that C-10 man 🤝
The underdog I call it! So much fun
Jus ordered some long travel shocks
Nice! Let me know if the tips help out!
@@CapeCrawlers ok thank you
Hey Adam, sorry for the many questions and comments I have, but it would be awesome if you could answer this.
We're did you get the wheel spacers for the yellow jeep those are awesome and thank for all the information keep making amazing videos
Thank you! I appreciate that! The JLU setup is MOFO RC heavy hexes on +5mm extended axles. It's probably my favorite width/weight combo!
@@CapeCrawlerscool thanks so much
Also we're do you get your flex blades from
Just amazing video and content!!! Thank you brother!!!
Thanks for watching!
Hey Legend! Love the video!
What shocks are you running in the Yellow Gladiator Wagon?
Where do I grab a set!
RCLions shocks and I get them from Amazon 👍🏻 I’ve since swapped them out for hot racing telescopic shocks which I get at Amain hobbies.
@@CapeCrawlers thanks for your reply, aiming to go for the same exact setup
Do you have a list you've made? Also, what length shocks did you go for the RCLions, looks like they have two stages of travel?
Thanks heaps man! Really appreciate the support.
wich wheels and rims did you choose for the yellow one? It looks amazing
I run the rc4wd stamped steel beadlocks and scrambler tires. It’s a great setup!
@@CapeCrawlers thx! now I see what you‘ve done here
u turned them around for more broad
Hey love your videos! I just installed all 4 HR dbl barrel shocks on my c10 and my drive shaft keeps falling apart. Will limiting straps fix this issue?
Thank you! Yes, limiting straps should get you sorted out 👍🏻
How do your shocks drop so fast and easy.
How does the upside down shocks effect dampening if at all?
In my experience it doesn't. Your spring selection will impact your dampening, but running them inverted or traditional shouldnt impact the dampening. I personally dont notice a difference.
What size shocks should I get for my scx24 heel gladiator I don’t know what size the shocks are so I don’t know to get a 45mm or 51mm
Are you running the o rings on your links? How about your lower shock mounts? I am trying to figure out how to get all of that awesome articulation Thanks!
I run one o ring at each mounting point of the links
@@CapeCrawlers Thank you! I have been really enjoying your videos. Keep it up!
Thanks for all the tips!!
Thanks for watching! I hope they help!
What size tires and what brand tire are you running on the yellow jl ? Looks awesome
RC4WD scrambler tires. I think they're ~62mm?
GREETINGS, EXCELLENT VIDEO, WHAT MODEL IS THE YELLOW TRUCK FRIEND AND WHAT SCALE IS IT, I WOULD LIKE TO BUY ONE EQUAL TO THAT,AND WHAT BRAND IS IT? EXCELLENT VIDEO, THANK YOU 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
