Can you use the tires without the foams or would they be too soft then?
Another performance booster I’ve found is removing the little ears off the front bumper and fastening it to the frame rails. It sits nice and flush with the body and keeps you from getting stuck so much
That’s a good tip. The front bumper is kinda annoying on these stock
Seeing all these upgrades done at once to a stock truck really brings me back to doing my own initial mods. And also makes me painfully aware how much money and time I’ve sunk into them by this point 😂
Same here
It hurts to calculate the investment doesnt it?! It sure was fun to start from the beginning again though.
Hey, you’re not the only one!!!!
Same I bought my rig 2 weeks ago and let’s just say it not stock and $100 didn’t make the cut haha
I recently added up all the parts I have currently installed (NOT including previous parts and spares and whatnot) and I had to delete the document to erase the evidence 😂
Thanks for this and all of the details in this and the other videos. I'm currently watching/listening on repeat. Total newbie here. I attended a local comp last week, watched your videos and ordered your recipe last night and still spent less than a tire for my Corvette. I'm currently taking notes on your install tips and reading the comments. My first comp is the 17th. Friendly local stuff. Thanks Adam!
Ever since i found your channel ive been eyeballing a gladiator so hard , it’d be my first crawler so this budget build video came out at way too perfect of a time ! Keep posting these bro they’re tones of help!
Thanks for watching! Love the gladiator.
Love that. Recently got a little overwhelmed by your and other channels who threw out one expensive and high end rig after the other while i havent even finished modding my first didnt even get to drive it a lot. One item i would strongly recommend is the Injora Underdrive gears, i use them front and rear, gear reduction, slower speed, more crawling power even with stock motor.
Great idea for the under drive! I think this little motor would really shine with a different gear ratio.
Awesome! well put together a budget build brother. This is super helpful and informative plus some great tips along the way. I've been looking at modifying my second Gladiator and this video just got over the hesitation hump. Thanks as always my Bro.
Glad you enjoyed it! Enjoy your build!
A nice free upgrade you might like to add to this is taking the (drop down front bumper arms) off the front bumper and mounting the bumper directly into the frame rails, it bolts right in and the front grill section of the body sits decently snug down against it. Brings the bumper up and in so it doesn’t stick so far out. you can also trim just a bit off the bottom of the front body grill section to get a more flush fitment, doing this gets rid of that jutting out underbite look and cleans up the front of the rig up really nicely, no problems with servo clearance either!🤘🏼😄
Thank you, I am going to try that bumper mount trick tonight!
@@CapeCrawlers did you?
@@CapeCrawlers we wanna know if you did…
Outstanding choice on tires. Have run a set of those on my Deadbolt for a year with stock foams and they still have grip for days. Earlier scx24s
had machined fine threads on the pivot balls. The newer ones are coarse thread. Broke a few of them in knuckles as well until I noticed this.
I am super impressed with the tires! Breaking stuff is the ultimate teacher, right? Lesson learned here!
Awesome build! With as much as I love doing crazy all out builds, there is something very fun, challenging, and rewarding about getting a good performer on a tight budget.
Thank you, and I agree. Tight budget and maintaining a scale appearance makes for a great challenge and fun project.
A very well made video with excellent commentary. Just bought a SCX24 Jeep Wrangler (new to crawling but not new to rc cars) and this video will be a good place to start from for upgrades and tweaks. Many thanks.
We ran into the same issue with breaking off the stock steering link screw in a brass knuckle.. but because it doesn't thread in real far and brass is softer.. we took a screw that came with the knuckle and pushed it through the threads from the other side.. works like a charm and you still have threads left once you screw hardware in it will catch the threads on the bottom..😎🤘🏼great video man! Keep em coming.
I should have tried that!
definitely one of the most scale clean scx24s that i’ve seen! good job adam you never seem to disappoint!!
Thank you! V2 of this will be super scale. I’m getting replica wheels, bumpers, mirrors, hood vents, etc. it’s going to be a really cool little truck.
@@CapeCrawlers that’s rad excited to see it come together!
These videos help out so much! Can you continue this series? I appreciate all your knowledge and the way you explain everything! Thanks a ton
Thanks for watching! I've since done a TRX4M and AX24 in the series. Hoping to do a FCX24 soon.
I really like your videos man. It makes it easy to get my little boy into STEM learning.
I literally just did this last night. Took $100 and spent it on upgrades for the Jeep Wrangler. Will be more done later, but got a good start.
Can you help me through the process?
Oh wow she crawls so smoothly. I've yet to buy a scx 24 and look forward to buying one. Thanks for your tutorial it was great.
Very cool! I just had the idea to make an indoor course for the future and this is just great for ideas. Love it when the mods pay off like that and the end product looks amazing. Quite capable too!
Great video!!! Was looking for a budget build that was also capable! This was the ticket!! Now I can plan and build for the grand children! And as always, great video and keep them coming!!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Nice build. It turned out really capable. Traction and weight transfer rule the day. Looks like the stock servo did just fine.
Massive performance difference! Cant wait for mine to show up so I can bring some new printed lcg parts and other upgrades to the game!
Excellent upgrades! I'm saving this video. That motor and suspension is something I'd like to do that to my Deadbolt.
This video was awesome! I really like your flagship Gladiator, but these upgrades you've done for the new build are perfect for us beginners. I'll definitely be applying all these starter mods to my C10 SCX24. Hopefully, the only difference is the body so that I don't run into any issues.
Glad you enjoyed it! With the C10, you will find that the body will become a limiting factor. Otherwise all of these upgrades will directly apply. You may want to trim the fenders to really unleash the capabilities of the C10.
Dude I found your channel the day before thanksgiving and you guys inspired me so found a crawler on OfferUp and went to buy it Friday my son and I love it
Great video and upgrade ideas!! Keep up the awesome content.
On my kid's gladiator I put that same motor in and then superglued two heavy washers to the outside of each wheel. I happened to have some that were the perfect fit. I don't know the exact weight, but I'd guess each wheel is as heavy, or heavier than any nice brass wheel out there. The washers completely transformed the rig into a capable crawler.
Good info! Did you stick with stock wheels for this?
@@CapeCrawlers Yep, just slapped the washers on the stock wheels and tires. Doesn't even look bad. Perfect for a 5 year old, as it pretty much got rid of all of the tippiness.
I’m late to the comment section here, but I just found your channel. Excellent content, man! I just recently got my first scx24 and now after binge watching some of your videos this weekend I just ordered a bunch of parts to start going crazy. Thanks for all the sweet videos
Thanks for watching! Have fun with your build!
I also work in finance, just bought this rig, and wanted a video just like this! Thank you
I really enjoyed this budget build. Picking the best upgrades, with the focus on performance, is most important for those with limited bucks to spend on hobbies....... or if your Canadian...... 🤦♂😕😁.
EXPIOWA did a great no $ upgrade quite a while ago by carefully heating and bending his stock links into high clearance links.
And after seeing donaldsneffe video on motors and servos, there's some good food for thought in those two upgrade areas.
And rather than going for longer shock, I think your choice of flex blades was very smart. And if it came down to it, making them yourself wouldn't be hard and you could make them longer or double jointed for even more extension.
And to add weight, there's lots of free options like solder wire, steel washers and nuts, etc.
Got a Gladiator for my child. RTR is $150. For another 160 to 200, you can literally option out the whole thing! So, about 300-330, you're set for life. Great rig for ALL ages! So capable and fun. Unlike other fast rtrs, kids can give it full throttle without ramming it through a kitchen wall...hehe. 😊
One of the best content I’ve watched. Really enjoyed the budget aspect of it. Guess I’ll be heading over to Amazon. Lol. You made me do it. Lol
Thank you! It was a really saturated video and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Certainly a fun project.
Thank you, for your content and informative videos!! Since I found your channel, I've started my own couple builds. One I'm doing for myself, and one for my son. We'll see what it brings. Doing one build from solely online shopping, and getting the things I see from videos/etc.. Another build I am doing solely from local Hobby Shop parts and recommendations. Kind of a "build-off" to see where each truck ends up. I'm sure each will have their pros and cons!
That's awesome. Have fun!!
Idk if its just me being cheap but I honestly like the budget build better. Looks a lot more scale and handles it well. The highly modified gladiator is sweet just looks more like a Jeep body on top of a crawler buggy type thing.
I'm right there with you. I really enjoy the budget builds!
Solid topic choice bro! Pumped to see your mini version of the 1:1!🤙🏻
This was a fun one!
Great build bro, im watching the video while working on my gladiator . I got injora oil filled shocks, high clearance links , metal steering link , e max servo , metal drive shafts , pro line trenchers with stamped steelies from injora. Awesome video Adam 👍
Sounds like you’re off to a great start 👍🏻👍🏻
The Trenchers are great, I have a set I keep swapping between my TRX-4M and my SCX24 w/ Injora Rock Buggy chassis. I really should grab a 2nd.
That is a good looking little Rig! & The mods have made it so much more capable. Great video 👍🏼
Thank you! The transformation was night and day. I was getting really nervous after those stock baseline runs!
@@CapeCrawlers Yeah it was so cool to see what a $100 worth of good, useful mods will do, and it turned it into a capable little Rig. 👍🏼✌🏼🤠
That a good budget build. I am going to get my granddaughter who is 6 one. We are definitely going to do some of these mods. She absolutely loves driving my sx24 wrangler when she comes over.
I love hearing things like this. So much fun when the kids get involved! Enjoy!
Great video. Really loved that you kept the scale look. Makes me consider a scx24. Would love to see this style video with a trx4m.
Thanks! I would like to do a budget build TRX4M. That would be fun for sure.
When I replaced the diff cover with brass, i really packed it with grease, helping add weight down low and lessen maintenance for gears and bearings.
thanks for all the helpful tips and tricks, me and my friends spend hours in the woods on our homemade crawler course as well as our indoor crawler course with our JLU bronco and c10
That is awesome! Glad to help
@@CapeCrawlers how did you trim the fenders on your bronco?
Really great video , I got alot of knowledge and insight out of thanks
Great idea for a video. Really will be helpful for many people. Now let's see what to do with another 100. Take care
Thanks for watching, and good suggestion.
Great build, a couple of things I might do different would be go for the 66T Injora over the Torque Beast, it just did not look that smooth and you would have still stayed within budget. Second, considering the weight of the build I think I would have trimmed the foams more or maybe run no foams, there was very little flex in the tires in the video. However I do not have any experience yet with the Injora S5 compound (have some All Terrains coming for my AX), so it might not be viable to run no foams. Other than that awesome job once again!
Good feedback! I do like that 66t motor. I think these tires would be too floppy with no foams. They're VERY soft. Trimming the CI foams could be a good way to further improve the performance of them though
I was about to ask for a budget build!! Love the new truck
Perfect timing!
Great project! Love the execution!
Thanks for watching!
Thinking of doing very similar to our newly purchased Deadbolt. They are a decent rig outta the box needing just a nudge of upgrades to be capable I see. If I widen its stance it will no longer climb into my sons WWE Slambulance. So I plan a slightly different approach on improvements however better motor, more weight lower should definitely help. Great video, love the big American Flag too! Thanks
I did the same thing with my brass knuckles! They are threaded all the way through, so I just tightened a long bolt in the underside of the knuckle and backed the broken piece out effortlessly.
May not work if the piece is really wedged in there tight
I should have tried that!
Well done video 🙏🏼
Adam great build for the money I definitely got to get a hold of that battery tray ESC Trey swap thing I’ve done some Jimmy Reagan shelf with that. Looks like a really nice clean upgrade for 12 bucks and whatever thanks for sharing that Another cheap trick did to my gladiator and my jeeps as the bumper melt flip-flop, flip the bumper mount, and then flip the bumper, raises the approach angle dramatically, and I even remove the rear bumper to get that angle to improve. Also love your truck now sick brother olllllllo
Thank you! Great tip for the bumper too!
boy that stock footage was difficult to watch LOL had me thinking it was an episode of matts offroad recovery after somebody drove a stock jeep into moab 😅
love this series, i think we can all relate to these cheap builds even though they all spiral out of control, very logical but wise selection of parts
The stock runs were brutal! Had me rethinking the entire thing 🤣 but what a turnaround in the end!
Great video, thanks
Hey man thanks for doing this, this is going to help me a lot
Glad I could help!
I would recommend taking the front bumper off it gives it a way better approach angle. I also recommend what I did and buying a cheap chassis of amazon that angles the skid and makes it so much better on not getting high centered.
also prob trim the fenders.
Very good suggestions. I’m going to make this into a scale replica of my 1:1 which is why I didn’t chop it up too bad. But you’re absolutely right
@@CapeCrawlers that would be pretty cool having a replica of your actual jeep.👍
You’re officially the Scx24 Dad!!! Another awesome video Adam!! 💪🏼 💪🏼
🤣 thanks for watching!
I got into these little cars more for the tinkering and modding than the running LOL Age and budget no longer allows restoring full sized cars and I can do these at the kitchen table in the evenings. Also easier (and cheaper to buy) to run at home or indoors than the 1/10 scale cars.
The bolt breaking in the knuckles is the exact same thing that happened to me with my first set of brass knuckles. After alot of research I found out it wasn't my fault it's just those off brand brass pieces. It was really upsetting as my first upgrade though having to go back to the stock knuckles lol
Such a bummer!
Fun video... great to see the two opposite ends of the spectrum put next to each other.
I think to do it a little differently i would have not bothered with new foams and kept the stronger servo instead
Good suggestion. Had I known the stock foams from Injora were so soft I would have likely done the same.
Very satisfying 😃
I want one. This is Sick. Love the tires , look scale.
That’s one beautiful Scx24 Gladiator. 👍👍👍
It came out really nice!
Yessaahh 🔥 excited
Fantastic video… thanks
Great budget build Adam! Many will benefit from the Performance to Dollar ratio you settled on. I don't know if it was already mentioned but take that extra few dollars and buy a good hex tool instead of the L shaped one that comes with the truck!
Thanks for watching! Yes, investing in tools with the extra cash is a great idea.
Hello,
Great and excellent work, I really like the aesthetics and benefits that you have achieved, it is fantastic.
Even if he had gone over budget, I would have modified his shocks like the monster Gladietor, which I wish I knew how to do. Let's see if one day you show in a step-by-step video the modification of those shock absorbers.
Thank you very much and a hug from Spain, Valencia.
Thanks for watching! Check out this video on my shock setups: ruclips.net/video/uEEJrSswJ08/видео.html
@@CapeCrawlers Thanks a lot😊
So cool!! 😎👍
The screws from the injora screw kit (or any screw kit I would assume) will fit with no problem on brass knuckles, I just used those little brass pieces that come with aftermarket shocks and it worked perfectly
I should have done that! The little screw snapped before I could even think about alternatives.
I had the same screw problem with the knuckles..... i popped out the screw and used the one from the stock shocks
The stock shock pack from Axial comes with fine thread ball studs you should be able to use with the brass knuckles. I’m pretty sure the stock linkage uses coarse threads into plastic.
I’ll check that out!
Awesome video Adam!
Thank you!
@@CapeCrawlers Hey Adam, If my esc dies, when i replace it do i need to buy a new esc and controller? or can i buy just the esc? Also where do you buy these from. Thx man! 🙂
ive been wanting to buy one and now im motivted
Great video, I bust got my first scx24 so this was perfect
Glad it was helpful!
For the injora foams maybe you could try make 4-8 evenly spaced half cuts along the outer diameter of the foam. Should let it squish a little better. It’s what I did, Although they probably changed their foams for the s5 compound tires. And for those last $4 it’s a bit high up but you could find something with weight to stick in the front bumper. Another free mod is de-casing the esc. Makes it slightly smaller and lighter, and works great as long as your scx doesn’t go for a swim.
Also I think those specific knuckles are notorious for breaking screws.
I was pretty impressed with the injora foam. Had I know they were that soft I probably wouldn't have ordered the CI foams and done something like what you suggest. I am going to look into decasing the esc! If anything it will help the body close better. That's one drawback of the LCG chassis is that the esc puts upward pressure on the body and that velcro starts to fail.
@@CapeCrawlers for decasing you just cut or peel the stickers on the sides. Then carefully pull the clips apart. I was rough with mine and snapped the little tabs, but nothing some tape can’t fix if I decide to put it back in the case.
Crazy running a stock rig on a track after you've gotten use to running upgraded ones on lol. It's a nice change of pace not looking for the most insane line you can find
It really transforms the course. So challenging!
Where can I get the adapters for the shocks to have more play on the axle side?
Yes I love this video 👍
How did you get the battery cable to reach your esc? I just installed v3 of the lcg kit and my battery cable doesn’t reach now
Are all these upgrades compatible with the scx24 jlu as well ? Thanks for your videos.
Awesome build would you be able to share the build for the other crawler. I would love to build it the same way (Parts etc)
Great video and approache 🎉
Thanks for watching!
Great video btw, Is this car worth buying if modded, been thinking of getting one for weeks, I think I'd add weights to it first to hopefully get more traction
"I can make pennies bleed" is an insane quote
great build, just got a c10, planning a similar approach to my build
Thanks for watching! Have fun!
I just picked up one of these and this video is soooo helpful! How are you recording video of driving the truck without a camera person(presumably)? I’m sure you have a camera mounted to your transmitter but I would love to know some details! You inspire us all!
Glad it helped! I drive one handed and film with the other. It's challenging but I make it work!
My first go to mods are wheels and tires motor and servo and them I go from there
Great strategy
Man the before and after is crazy
Anyone can tell you this but seeing is believing
ive got the 58m rock terrains on my bronco trx4m for a more scale loo. they are really good.
I’m really impressed with the tires. So soft and grippy!
Yeah one more time that was awesome
Since there's no correction in the video, nor any corrections on the video description, or in the comments, the Injora wheels you want, if you are going to "flip" them for a deeper dish look, are the ones linked in the video description and not the ones he shows at 11:47 minutes. The ones shown in the video are the deep dish variants, where the spokes sit about halfway into the rim. If you try to "flip" those, you won't be getting a deeper look because the spokes are sitting halfway into the rim... so no deep deep dish look and no widened stance. In the "regular" stamped steel Injoras, the correct ones, the spokes sit almost at the opening of the rim. These you can "flip" and get the look you see in the finished build. Just a heads up before anyone goes spending money on the wrong item.
How long does it take for your items to come in? I ordered mine on Friday and I was wondering how long it will be, I ordered it off the injora website.
Great concept for a video (and well done as usual.) You still liking that motor? I stuck one in my warthog and can’t wait to swap it out. Too jumpy for me.
Thank you! I like it so far. It's got a very narrow powerband I feel and I've always struggled with what build to best utilize the motor in. It seems to work pretty well in the gladiator for now, but we'll see what happens longer term.
Do you cut the foam or cam in 4 one for each wheel?
You should do a video on your course.... that's super cool
Check this out: ruclips.net/video/I8uidVXdLkg/видео.html
Cool build, Adam
Thank you!
Are you going to get a pillow for the budget build. I think it's great what you were able to do with the new performance of your gladiator I'm just kidding you about about the pillow. I have a deadbolt is stock maybe I can learn from what you have done with yours . I have been driving around my living room. I'll keep watching for more ideas. Thank you for the video I enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching!
Watching that heavily modified keep get through everything so easily and slowly was so awesome. Really makes me want to get into rock crawling
I find crawling so therapeutic. It's great for relaxing the mind!
What size shocks should I get for my scx24 jeep wrangler I don’t know what size the shocks are so I don’t know to get a 45mm or 51mm
Dude, I'm almost done with my Gladiator, I have an NSDRC steering servo coming, hopefully. 🙏🏻 I wanna get the Club 5 Racing rock sliders for the Gladiator & Treal diff covers then I'll probably call it good! I'll have to post a pic of it to you, when I'm done with mine. 😉
I definitely want to see it!
@@CapeCrawlers No doubt! 😉
Hey there, do you have a video that goes over how to obtain maximum steering with aftermarket parts and/or modifications? I saw dlux offering universal axle shafts for the 24s and I’m curious what kind of steering can be achieved
I don't have a specific video for that, but I should. There's lots of ways to do so, including filing down your steering knuckles to maximize the compatibilities of those CV axles.
Tell me what I'm doing wrong cuz when I put those little ecopower servos on it breaks the mouth the little plastic gears that you put your screw through they just break in my overtighten do I have too much toward that got them points turned up too much
Sounds like you are over tightening the screw that the horn attaches with.
Idea, I am new and would like to know all the places i could look for parts. Been looking and finding more an more places beyond Injora and DJcrawler. A List of places to get parts would be cool video maybe. Much love mate
