CRazy! I might have got to 70 degrees. A single limiting strap in the center rear would allow max flex but also keep the body down. The axle would only drop half way but each side would still get full flex.
Real question is what is max needed in any scenario, but you also have to factor weight distribution since the more of an angle it sits at the more it'll wanna roll before reaching max deflection. Pretty interesting to see this portion of the hobby exploding right now. I believe the resulting development will be rapid initially.
Very insightful comment. When you say this portion of the hobby, are you referring to the mini crawlers in general, or the crazy flex we can get out of them?
Well I just picked up my first SCX24 and I had to get that cool little 1967 Chevy C-10 😁 I also picked up some Brass Knuckles, Carbon Fiber Suspension Links a stronger Servo and Servo Mount and some Hot Racing Double Barrel Shocks. Also got some Proline Trencher on there Bead Locks and I got some JConcepts Tusks. I have quite a few 10th Scale but this is my first 24th Scale. I don't think it will be the last because my Daughter said she wants one and my Girlfriend also said she wants one, so looks like I am going to be busy for a minute 😂😂😂 thanks for your Videos they are a world of help, also you have a AWESOME name. 😁🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think it's more like 48mm. Even shorter if you want true all-around performance. I feel like getting into the 50+mm range the collapsed length of the shock starts to be an issue.
@@CapeCrawlers Thank you for sharing your insights! I appreciate your perspective on the shock length and the consideration of collapsed length. It’s always great to hear different viewpoints and experiences.
Great video. I’m building a power wagon. Is there a complete list of what you have in this build? I’m semi retired and don’t have the $$ for trial n error. Your build is what I’m looking for my Power wagon
The shocks are almost not doing anything at these angles, except, the springs are providing some support to the weight of the chassis when the thing is on level ground. They possibly limit travel when fully articulated. Have you tried to run it without shocks at all? I'd be curious to see how it behaves. You might be better off setting up the shocks/springs to just rest on the axles on compression without being connected to them... 😈
I love the idea of rc crawling, but I found out im too impatient and trigger happy to slow crawl. I basically gun it through everything and don't try to be realistic, but I still like watching
You can still have fun running crawler lines driving like that, that’s more of a rock bouncer driving style. I have an scx24 just for that type of driving, quick with the ability to slow crawl when you need it. Sometimes trigger happy can get you to hop over some lines that slow crawlers just can’t if you got your rig setup right, that’s where I have my fun. Kinda bash crawling lol.
Thanks for the awesome video on these! I'm planning to get a set for my comp rig when they are back in stock! They will be perfect, as I need the extra compressed length as well as the extra flex! Are they still holding up well? Man, my rig is going to look a ton like the Gladiator! Next mods planned are these shocks, Mini Komodo, RCAWD Portals and Swamp Kings!
Awesome video these shocks are sick and one thing I should tell you is at the beginning the audio and video was a bit out of sync but during axels (correct me if I’m wrong on the name) run footage it was perfect same for the rest of the video one thing if you put really skinny width tires I think it would flex even more I could be wrong though also you should do a tour of your workbench, crawling tables, and RC cars
Hey Cape Crawlers, this may have been answered somewhere and I missed it, but do you use stock drive shafts for your builds? How do you keep them from falling out when flexxed out? Love your videos man! It's what got me into 24th scale crawlers!
That's rad! When you were compressing the springs the long one bowed and put tension on that collar in the middle. Cool idea they had but just isn't functional. Basically at this point is it just the body that's original.
the flex on these are impressive! I just got my first crawler, trx4 traxx and I like it with the wheels, waiting for more snow to break in the traxx but these are cool. Maybe some wheel weights would help?
I think using the old shock top would have been nice to get rid of that bulky faux expansion chamber. Looks sweet though, I want to do this to my fcx24.
Just tossing a thought out there. What about a swap to the 54mm in the rear with the flex plate you have on already to lower the overall length just a tad? Or even remove the mount and see if that takes a little rear lift out? 🤷🏼♂️
@@CapeCrawlers interested in how the results differ and if there’s any noticeable change in the rear lift. just came to mind as you mentioned a possible rear limiter strap. Thanks for watching! I've been asked that before. The benefit to the shocks is that they keep the axle straight. Have you thought about trying these on the trx4m. I know there shorter over all but if they were frame mounted would they provide more travel than stock?
Do you have any issues with the front driveshaft popping out? I have pretty close to the same setup and my front driveshaft just isn't quite long enough and likes to separate.
I use a limiting strap to control the driveshaft. LGRP makes a great one: littleguyracingparts.com/products/lgrp-brass-limit-strap?variant=44997674893624¤cy=USD&gad=1

I use Injora shafts but its the limiting strap setup that keeps them from falling out. LGRP makes a good setup for the front. The rear I just position the shocks so they can extend but not so far that the shaft disconnects.

I run +5mm treal hex extensions on top of the portals plus the wheels have 3mm extended hubs. As for the incline, I use rubber bands for limiting straps up front. It controls the front end lift and allows for good climbing.
You can drive knowing that directly underneath you is big clearance. The portal boxes and c hubs don’t hang up as bad as you would think, but it’s still always a potential snagging point. I’m still happy with them 👍🏻

Thanks! The shocks are epic
is it possible to tune the bronco scx24 a this point?
I think you could. The body is the limiting factor on the bronco, so if you trimmed it enough, or made your axles wide enough to clear the body, it could flex like this I think.
OK, is there anything that challenges that crawler.
Not much anymore!
so cool
Thank you!
Would they work on trx-4m
Yes! If you take the pivot ball hardware out you can run the larger trx4m bolts through them and they’ll work
Can the shocks fit on to a trx4m
Yes they can with a little bit of work.
Maybe we should just start using 1/10 shocks 🤣🤣
I’m looking into it actually! 110mm on a scx24… just wait and see 🤣
How much does this thing weigh?
Around 650g
How much to buy that from you
Oh man, I can’t sell my little blue baby!
you're out of flex but how bout width?
Oh boy, it could go wider I suppose but it already is freakishly wide. Any more and it would look like a mini basher 🤣
