I would have gone with the Meus axles, they are $89 on Amazon, have a tighter turn angle, and are already made of brass. They also come with an adjustable servo tray on the front. The set i got also came with the over driven front gears as well as the standard gears.
@@JerrMin they are awesome! Ive also noticed that if you turn the wheels to full lock and punch the gas, it does a front wheel dig, super helpful in tight spots, lol
Cool build. Every time I go to the hobby shop, these Axial mini crawlers call out to me😂. Wife and I started crawling with a pair of TRX4M High Trails, and we are enjoying slowly upgrading them. I'll snag an Axial one of these days and give it the treatment as well.
Dude no way?! What are the odds? I am building one from scratch right now Legitimately just in time.. I got tired of my previous Scx24.. and now I am starting all over again, knowing the things I learned from all of my mistakes
Waiting on mine to build from scratch. To mix it up I'm going to try using Meus trailing arms. Also, Injora makes a 10th scale rear taillight that fits this as well as having some pretty sweet side skids.
I bought a deadbolt, fried the servo within a week or so, bought a servo, and overdrive trans with a motor a few weeks later. Decided to buy wheels, and tires…found cheap carbon fiberish lcg frame for cheap…add cheap links for stretch, oops micro Komodo Lizard pro…still sitting here with a 3/4 built comp rig, and loving the process.
Very helpful Video. I think that as a beginner its totally hard to know what will work and what you want and know without trying a lot of stuff and spending a lot of money. I spent a fortune on SCX24 stuff these last years and due to time still not really have sth. decent running, boxes of parts, several unfinished rigs.
I just finished a meus chassis and I'm absolutely in love with it. My favorite truck by far. So fun to design and paint. I probably spent $400 but I went all out with furitek rfx all in one and cedar motor.
That is a cool build! Love the purple. Really neat how the headlight bar glows through the paint! And just to compare your cost to the cost in Canada: Your build=$719.98. SCX24 Gladiator RTR=$231.65 Scary and depressing!
I’m glad injora released ascent 18 overdrive and underdrive now. Overdrive is what my truck needed next. The 11% underdrive for the scx24 will be nice. I have 33% ud in my ax24 and the motor overheats so I ordered the 11% ud for the front and that will give it the ideal 20%-25% od
This is a great video for anyone looking for the answer to that question. And in all honesty you do save money in the long run. But… If this is going to be your first rc or crawler or small scale rc of this nature, then I highly recommend buying a rtr kit so you can see the differences with each upgrade and appreciate the performance with each passing upgrade you do to it over time. Now if you already have one and just want another rig then this will definitely be the best route by building from scratch. I have one that I got as an rtr kit and over time upgraded parts and electronics here and there and now the truck is completely modified with no stock parts left to change and now I can literally build a stock one again with all my stock parts. Just need to buy some hardware to screw it all together and I’ll have a running stock rtr again lol. My main reason for a first time buyer of this category to start from rtr is for them to be able to play with it right away, experience the differences that each upgrades make while still being able to enjoy their vehicle, and learning the way the vehicle is put together and how each parts work for it. Once you’ve learned all that and know the ins and outs of the scx24 or whichever chassis you’re choosing to scratch build, then sky is the limit and you might as well start from scratch and build it how you want with all the upgrades you know you’re going to do right away and skip the payment for the rtr kit that’s gonna be tossed away in the end anyway 👍🏻
Plus, starting with a RTR SCX24, folks can comb YT and watch vid's on doing mod's to stock parts and other free mods. Gives them some experience learning how to work on them and how small tweaks can make good, positive changes.
The benefit of starting with the basic off the shelf unit is learning the shortcomings of it. I’m building my first comp type rig from my original deadbolt, looks like the only factory parts I may be keeping is the rear links, axle housings, receiver, and radio.
I first started with a Deadbolt rtr and put a toyota pickup model kit body, after buying a lot aftermarket parts, i was left with stock parts. So i ended up building a complete stock deadbolt out of all the stock parts and some aftermarket. Just needed a radio. I recently moved on to another hobby (retro handhelds), i might get back into crawling again later. I think its better to start from scratch and build a complete aftermarket rig rather than buying an rtr. Tactic TTX300 radio is pretty good and affordable.
Great build, I just got a MB24 kit. Going to swap my meus axles and brushless setup from a JLU to it. Thanks to this video I am going to rebuild the JLU on a budget.
ive done 1/10 rc's my hole life and just now thinking about getting into the 1/24 scale. Your videos have helped me make my mind up definitely gonna get one now. love watching the builds and the course you've made
The 1/18th Redcat Ascent is only $120, and with barely $50 in wheels/tires/inserts can be extremely capable. Not to mention all the other upgrades that have been coming out for them as well.
Great video. I personally have never had a stock scx24 when I discovered this platform. I had to go after maket so many options and way to much fun in creating your own rig love your channel keep up the good work thanks.
Hey Adam, I haven’t read any of the comments here, but i think you did better than you think with the budget on this build. Because, in total if you had modified a donor stock vehicle, you would have the added price of paying the cost of the truck, and buying the upgrades after.
Great video. After having bought and upgraded an scx, and now in the progress of building 2 from the ground up, I just don’t see the point of buying the rtr. There really isn’t much on the stock truck worth the original purchase price. The aftermarket for these trucks is so plentiful.
I have a similar mb build. Bronco links furitek motor and esc, mofo x15 but in billet and I added the heavy brass knuckles. However wheel clearance is an issue now. Put a mofo servo beast on the front frame is a kiwi green pearl and the body is a white pearl. Hand painting the interior. Oh boy.
Those Mofo axles are an excellent choice! I have them on 3 rigs. I also have a number of other axles and these are among the top for performance and strength.
I think it's a false economy to get the RTR for less money initially, and then slowly upgrade it. In every instance where I've done incremental upgrades, I would have saved money by building the "final form" from the get go. REALLY great looking build! Definitely the kind of truck I'd look at obsessively haha. Also, nice choice on the C-Bolt link combination. That's my favorite wheelbase for the scx24 by far.
Just over $300 isn't bad at all. You got to buy the base SCX24 first for $100-150 then you have your build/upgrade budget of $200. So to start with a kit and change everything out is $300-350. I think your better off just buying what you want and building it from scratch. It's about the same cost and no extra parts laying around. Thanks for making great videos like this, keep it up.
I was at walmart... and I noticed that that menus body is used for a cheap RC "Fun Haver" in the RC section. Tried to buy and use before realizing that menus has the same body and does a chassis kit for it.
I would like to see what you come up with at a budget of a new RTR SCX24 and then put them( the budget build and the stock SCX24) up against each other on the course.
Adam, your videos are getting better and better. And since the start of the channel it seems you have learned a lot about the minis. All you need now is a dremel tool or proxxon or whatever. Makes much more fun to build with such a tool. And what do you think about injora axles and motor instead of mofo? Would be cheaper and much better than stock. All in all great build!
Thank you! I considered those options. If you needed to bring the cost down I wouldn’t hesitate to get either of those. I think the Injora motor is smoother and prefer it I think. I went with the mofo axles because of the added width, strength, and included servo mount
Of course its more economical to buy RTR. But that means you don't plan on buying any upgrades. Because once you buy upgrades you need to add that to the total cost. I bought a wltoys 124017 buggy with every intention of upgrading, a couple of things .. Last week I built a complete stock car with my spare parts.
I think for your first build when you have no spare parts and have never worked one before... you should buy a truck then make it better. But for a 2nd or 3rd build when you you tinker with your rig so much you can lay out the entire parts list off the top of your head and your chasing a specific performance levle then YES!!! just build what you want from scratch. I think you didn't "blow the bidget" you tested it and the budget should really be $300. Maybe if you wanted more style you could do the same pars build but bump it to $400 and get something like LGRP ripper chassis.
I have a budget build in my amazon cart and injora cart. Just parts with no battery or transmitter its 274.60 after tax. And i think it would out perform this build
I like it , I’ve got one i’m getting ready to build now, haven’t decided what drivetrain, but it will have mofo parts for sure. Appreciate the video.👍👍
That is a cool build. The vertical bench test score was wild. How long will it be before these aftermarket parts companies start offering their own complete kits?
Can we clarify on this you said usually you buy a new scx24 and give yourself a $250 budget is that before or after you walked the car cuz if it's after then you have to put what is at 400 into that car you got in your hand
Gyro helps with precise steering and stability. They’re necessary for drift cars and things but I personally don’t feel it necessary with a rock crawler
Planning on doing this exact parts build with some higher quality parts (cost isn't an issue). With it hanging up on rocks, would you still recommend the C10/deadbolt links combo or would you go all C10?
I still don’t see the excitement for scx24..I tried to really get into it but trx4M is just more appealing, idk what it is about axial but I’ll probably never buy their products

So if you were to recommend the absolute most comp/cheater rig, what would you recommend. Non rtr, best parts.

I like this comparison. In my opinion the scx 24 stock is absolute garbage. If you are going to have to change everything, why not start from scratch!
How do you store and keep track of all the different parts for different rigs?
Hi, great video. What does means a receiver with or without gyro?

Deadbolt 💥💥💥
I still think the benefits of the longer wheelbase (deadbolt rears) outweigh the hanging up
How do you think the torque beast would act with a lizard pro??
About the same. I’ve tried it with the lizard and get the same results
@@CapeCrawlers Thanks
I would love to do a build from parts, but my knowlegde is not enough yet. 😓
What shocks did you use?
So how much is left from stock? Like did you need to get an SCX24 or could you have just put this all together with a few internals?
The goal was to build it purely out of parts without having to get an scx24 to start with. I think there are two axial parts on it
The only thing i want is to make my 1\24 deadbolt less prone to roll over. What are my options to get it for very few money?
Limiting straps help to pin it down. Unsprung weight is going to be your best bet. Brass diff covers, knuckles, wheel rings, etc
Just wondering, why not go with the injora metal +4 metal axles? wider and about 30$ cheaper, and all metal
I thought about that but I liked the added width and strength of the mofo. Plus you get the adjustable servo mount with them
Would you review the injora fat viper for the scx24?
Sure! I need to get a mount for it. I have an extra motor ready to go
