It may not have been just the pothole rattle itself, but also the fact that it elevated the trailer. And the collection of reports confirms that height difference is a repeatable trigger pattern. Windows are not bulletproof, maybe small caliber resistant. Military humvee glass 3-5 inch think isn’t really bullet proof either u stay on the X long enough it will break
windows are not bulet proof at all... bulet proof glass is like 3 cm thick... no one ever said that just the stainless steal panels are resistent to 9mm
Explosives on the door: fine. Throttle pedal: disintegrates. Tbh it seems to perform better than expected, just not on actual tests you'd put a normal production vehicle through.
@@Felale regular? you uh.. slam your doors as hard as you can? kick your accelerator? genuinely curious edit; I just remembered most production vehicles in the early 00's had cheap plastic door handles - check out the HHR, hell anything from 2000-2009
thats just so funny, the cybertruck wins at every extreme unrealistic test, but fails at towing, closing the back cover, at closing the door and the display failes lol
Watch the video more closely. The tow hitch broke when it came off the end of the culvert. The Ford didn't make it that far so didn't do the drop at the end.
So to sum it up, if you wanna spend 100K or so to go fast, do some offroading and get attacked by an angry mob. CT may be for you. If you want something that works for what trucks do, has decent manufacture quality and a lot less hassle, just about any other truck wouls so it better. Hoping for a episode 2, showing the bed being used, towing etc.
Watching a how easily a regular person can damage the doors and the pedal, makes me think of that old fiat 500 commercial where they prepared it to handle an upset ex. Which means a fiat 500 survives ex girlfriends better than a cyber truck.
As a mechanical engineer regarding the doors Cody is in no way an extreme situation. This is an oversight to rookie engineers. At my current job as a medical design engineer everyone was being gentle. Then I showed them the Whistleing diesel way. Slame the lid hard, push buttons very hard, and plug in aggressively as possible. Yes, some design changes were required. Everyone looked at me terribly like why am I abusing this instrument. Well I designed it. I can destroy it. Thank you whistleing diesel. You are saving lives with engineers designing mechanical devices. EDIT: I didn't pay attention and didn't realized so many comments. Yes, I misspelled "slam". This comment was made after a couple of after work beers to gain some sanity back. The "plug it in aggressively" comment I didn't clarify completely. The unit has a DC barrel power connector so need to be sure the connector wouldn't shear off the PCBA. Hello to fellow engineers.
Your spot on. Not everyone will be that rough and even fewer will be that rough repeatedly. But it happens, and sometimes by accident. Things shouldnt fall apart due to slightly elevated use of strength. We aint teddy bears.
NGL it's interesting how the Cybertruck can handle the more extreme tests but fails the basic shit like "Slamming the door" and "Not crushing your fingers"
That's because the F150 is a truck, designed to do truck things. The Cybertruck is a meme car, designed to look a certain way and do whatever rat-brained nonsense Musk thinks is cool at the moment.
@@djand77 Either bad preparation or a bad transfer from the previous owner. I could charge my new Tesla at a supercharger even before the CC was connected to my account. Tesla charges you later. At least, this was the situation 5 years ago.
Yeah that's why EVs, Virtual banking and such are deadly. The govt (ashkenazi) can literally block access to your cars, funds...etc This is why Petroleum will always reign Supreme as will as cold hard cash or precious metals/ minerals
Well, in the test where the Cybertruck pulled the Ford, the cybertrucks rear end hit the concrete with its entire weight, probably cracking the frame just before the pull. So it was in fact kinda abused, and is most likely why it failed, but regardless, a steel frame would not have done this.
@@xcalibertrekker6693 I'm not quite sure what you mean, but just to be quicker about discussion, if I understood you correctly, you are implying that the cybertrucks body panels were more resistant to explosions since they were aluminum? The Fords panels aluminum, while cybertrucks are stainless steel, so I'm not quite sure how that means the reverse.. That is IF I understood what you meant correctly.
Everyone's insurance on this truck just went up, if one can shear off the back frame that's a total write off for insurance companies because you can't fix a frame like that, regular truck's we can just weld a new piece on, Tesla truck your screwed
I like watching your durability testing videos. Not because I expect any particular truck to do well, but because I know I’ll learn exactly what they’re good at, what they’re bad at, and how far they can be pushed before damage occurs. And how far before catastrophic failure occurs.
That test was actually very well done. I’m surprised with how it withstood some of the tests and not surprised by some of the other ones. Thank you Cody for being crazy enough to do these types of tests!
Performance wise it's pretty good, being an EV and all with the usual drawbacks of EVs like charging. Suspension is pretty good but it's supporting parts are cheap and insufficient, like the air compressor. It's design/quality is a massive let down for those who use the truck, as a truck especially with how janky the software is.
@@walkelftexasranger Exactly. Plus, that steel rusts, is a massive hazard to pedestrians, parts of it is just glued on, and no one should use a Tesla as an armored vehicle, that's the job of modified Toyotas and proper Military Jeeps and Humvees. @XVICreations it is. They're the only company making public chargers and they are successfully outselling industry titans. Tesla is the ONLY company actually fully succeeding at this mission, like it or not.
Considering how much I hate the CyberTruck, partly because it's ugly AF, and mostly because it's weaker than an F150, this was insanely satisfying to watch.
It blows my mind that anyone would consider for even a second buying a car that has mechanical parts installed that have to be "unlocked" or that need software downloads to function. That idea is so amazingly scummy and completely retarded. Tesla is a complete scam meant to milk money out of activists and egotistical idiots, and BMW and Ford are starting to lean into similar methods to pry every dollar out of customers that they can. It almost feels like how video games used to be simple and fun with a one-time purchase, but now there are constant payments required just to get the game's full experience. I will never settle for a second-rate vehicle, I'll keep my 2003 with mechanical steel parts on the road for as long as I live.
Only stupid people you are one of them don't understand software updates. Let's you get goods faster. You can wait until the truck is ready a year. Aye, I feel like the initial CyberTruck is the car designed by engineer, with the expected level of engineer common sense oversights, and after a few revisions it'll actually be a dang impressive machine. Regarding the hitch though, they damaged the hitch and everything by slamming thousands of lbs of force into it multiple times before. Both when they took it off the back of the truck (which broke the driveshaft of the F150) and on the logs, then an extra love tap when dismounting the concrete tubes. So it was already prolly broken from what they did to it before. Considering the F150 couldn't even drive after the damage it took from leaving the back of the truck trailer once, I think its a little unfair to expect another car to deal with that level of damage multiple times and still tow.
@@Ralathar44 no, I see what you mean and I agree that is what happened but that’s why you make it out of steel. Over time, hitting bumps or potholes or going off road, you go over things and the receiver hits the ground. I go to Moab every year and you hit the hitch going off big ledges all the time. A lot of the time they hit THAT HARD and guess what, they still work. If this happened pulling the f150 without any weight on the hitch after hitting things then that is a major problem. The backend of the frame braking off is completely unacceptable and the doors breaking after one slam is ridiculous. I'm just glad to see the battery didn't explode into flames.
I think that's really the noteworthy thing here. All that he did, and the battery pack integrity wasn't compromised. That's something to throw in the faces of people who call all EVs fire hazards (as if gasoline powered cars aren't burning on the side of highways the world over at this very second).
The steel used in the Cybertruck is an austenitic type, primarily containing chromium and nickel, which helps in forming a protective oxide layer against rust. The specific alloy is sometimes referred to as "Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel."..The steel panels on the Tesla Cybertruck vary in thickness: Doors: Approximately 1.8mm thick. Exterior Panels: About 1.4mm thick. Ford F250: Approximately 18 gauge (0.0478" or 1.21 mm for non-coated steel) for cab and outer body.
I'm thinking it damaged the frame when it fell off the culvert , it weighs 7000lbs, there's just no way it could possibly get that tow rating and shear like that.
It's honestly crazy how those death traps are allowed on the road but when you're an elite and have buddies in the government you can get away with a lot. Especially when the government has propped up your business.

“I think we just downloaded front differential controls” I never thought I would hear that sentence. When Cody got stuck in the mud I was hoping Tesla would release the ability to go through to 12 inches of mud update.
Not-so-fun fun fact also, the steel body of the cybertruck has traces of technetium to help the steel resist rusting. Just so you know, technetium is radioactive. Environment friendly? Cool Tesla, how about cancer friendly?
The car is so crazy. At the one side it can take anything. Literally explosives and a gang trying to break in. On the flip side, the tow hitch broke off and he pealed off side panels. Bruh

@@clozedcaskets1438lmao as an engineer there’s many issues with this testing, the trailer hitch sustained damage prior to testing actual towing, you can see this in the video, and it was damaged from forces not parallel to how towing is actually done (when the back of the truck hit the concrete, so vertical force). It’s a fun video, but not good for testing how things are actually used. It’s great exaggerated durability testing sure. But this would never really be classified as a towing issue.

@@sbheyes True but the F150 frame is high strength steel so it wouldn't shear off like that. Only the body is aluminium. Using aluminium in that area is asking for trouble.
@@sbheyes yeah thats also what i thought. the f150 took a lot less damage in those early test simply because it wasnt fast enough, like in the jump tests. still not defending the cybertruck tho. these issues need to be fixed
@@termonostruman no, it has enough strength to pull 11,000lbs but there was a video explaining why the rear bumper broke, and its because the tongue strength is 900lbs, tongue strength is the direct upwards and downwards force that is applied to the towing hitch, 900lbs is a normal amount of strength, the ford f150 only has 1000lb which is not much more, so when the cybertruck got pulled of the speed bump test and its weight landed on the rear bumper it exceeded the maximum strength and the same thing would've happened to the ford f150 in the same situation.
I really appreciate how we went from mindlessly destroying vehicles a few years ago to actually finding a way to "destroy" them form a scientific perspective that actually does answer important questions

@@larsstrong3426 Yea they are ignoring this and Cody is lying about it. You just can't drop it 3ft vertical down on it's own weight onto concrete... You know, things no truck is intended for, or designed to withstand, ever.
It's just insane that this thing is super durable on the outside but super fragile on the inside. That's the opposite of how cars are supposed to be, they're supposed to have strong internal frames to keep you safe while the outside is made to crumple to absorb impacts.
So many people were impressed at how 'stable' the Cybertruck was on the collision test they did for the marketing material, but physics--All that force that *should* have made the Cybertruck move is now bearing down on all the passengers *inside,* injuring or even killing 'em in the process.
The worst thing is that this truck will not only be bad for passengers (who at least decided for this truck) but also causes danger to pedestrians and other drivers

At my current job as a medical design engineer everyone was being gentle. Then I showed them the Whistleing diesel way. Well I designed it. I can destroy it.
Thank you whistleing diesel. You are saving lives with engineers designing mechanical devices.

Out of everything, I think the trailer hitch breaking is the worst. It really wasn't abused like many of the other tests.
Well, in the test where the Cybertruck pulled the Ford, the cybertrucks rear end hit the concrete with its entire weight, probably cracking the frame just before the pull. So it was in fact kinda abused, and is most likely why it failed, but regardless, a steel frame would not have done this.

This was the biggest pendulum swing between my thoughts being "oh dang thats crazy good" and "how did that make it to production"
Hitting your receiver on a rock or something is actually way more common than you think if you take the truck off road. Especially if you leave a hitch in the receiver

I love how this durability test is by far the most realistic one Whistlindiesel has done so far.
Yes the c4
The trailer hitch coming off is a severe fucking engineering problem Man, he discovered a huge issue with this vehicle no way these should be pulling 11k
Not quite realistic at all. Nobody would enounter any of those things in real life
@@hojo70 dude I’ve pulled stuck trucks out the mud a bunch of times, it is a problem it’s shock loading that caused the problem, ran into same problems when I was a lattice boom crane operator if a trailer gets hit, axle failure etc etc and with a load and shock loads it and can somehow cause this to happen again huge fucking problem, and what about the people that overload trucks because that is very common I come from a cattle family put another round bale on the trailer and send it tons of mindsets like that, whether it’s right or wrong product has been produced and needs addressed. It’s a huge problem big time. Don’t whine if it’s your family that gets killed when these are on the hwy by the thousands
The thing is that you really don’t want a car that doesn’t crumple cause that means a simple crash will transfer all the energy straight into you. So sure you might be more protected from bullets and explosives, but it won’t protect you from normal car scenarios
Bro I pray Elon sees this & actually decides to make the Cybertruck significantly better. Rear end coming off is next level wild. 💀
I guarantee he's already seen it
I mean he just dropped the whole
rear on the concrete slab just 10 seconds before.

You totally broke that frame when you hit that culvert on the way down. But a steel frame would not have snapped. That was brutal testing. Nice work.

the frame snapping off but withstanding c4 is really funny to me
Somehow that just fits with the whole cybertruck experience. It can survive an angry mob with sledgehammers, but you better not try to take it into a car wash or you'll brick it!

As a former manufacturing employee for T i can confirm a majority of the car is pushpins and glue.. the FRAME like core fram is super strong but the panels ain't. This video was very satisfying 👏
How about that actually attach the hitch to that "super strong frame" then?
@@leetskeet4476it cheaper and faster to just glue it since the manufacturing for the hitch is probably outsource since they probably forgot about it when designing the frame for it lol.
Not built for towing imagine a brick trailer coming loose on the road
What frame is everyone talking about out? Everywhere I read this doesn’t ride on a steel frame like the f150. This is unibody construction.
@@c1aytonbigsby The ‘solid’ bit that snapped. Thing that everything is attached to. We know it isn’t built like a truck with a chassis. You know what we are talking about.
I think the frame snapped when he drove it off the culvert pipes. It slapped the back bumper pretty hard, then broke off when trying to tow the f150. I watched that part again and am pretty sure that's the thing that actually shattered the casting. This is one serious problem with cast frames
Agree. I came to the comments to find this exact comment.
Took a pretty good shot coming off the truck too. Those are sudden, hard impacts, much different load than pulling. I agree with you.
I wanted to see the f150 go off the culvert….but it couldn’t even get up there?? But disappointing that it wasn’t an even test
The bomb in the trunk aged so badly 😭😭😭
the fact he pulled apart the cybertruck like string cheese is crazy
I saw one in person at the giga factory. The entire thing is held together with glue. I was able to peel off trim pieces extremely easily
musk is a scammer but you keep not beliving in me..
i know a s cammer very ewasly
@@termonostruman no, it has enough strength to pull 11,000lbs but there was a video explaining why the rear bumper broke, and its because the tongue strength is 900lbs, tongue strength is the direct upwards and downwards force that is applied to the towing hitch, 900lbs is a normal amount of strength, the ford f150 only has 1000lb which is not much more, so when the cybertruck got pulled of the speed bump test and its weight landed on the rear bumper it exceeded the maximum strength and the same thing would've happened to the ford f150 in the same situation.

Elons truck aint towing very far
Keep in mind, that the hitch/frame took a severe hit in directions it was not intended for and that it would never experience in towing, before failing during towing. At 5:25, the back of the truck dropped a couple of feet onto the hitch.
@@larsstrong3426 there's no excuse for this. The same shit happened to f-150
@@larsstrong3426 Yea they are ignoring this and Cody is lying about it.
Thats what broke the frame, (which is not a frame but a unibody) not the towing of the ford, the frame is perfectly fine and strong.
You just can't drop it 3ft vertical down on it's own weight onto concrete...
You know, things no truck is intended for, or designed to withstand, ever.
The hitch ripping off the cyber truck is crazy, that’s beyond recall worthy
Yeah that's crazy that needs to be recalled

It's just insane that this thing is super durable on the outside but super fragile on the inside. That's the opposite of how cars are supposed to be, they're supposed to have strong internal frames to keep you safe while the outside is made to crumple to absorb impacts.
That’s the exact definition of an “exoskeleton”
So many people were impressed at how 'stable' the Cybertruck was on the collision test they did for the marketing material, but physics--All that force that *should* have made the Cybertruck move is now bearing down on all the passengers *inside,* injuring or even killing 'em in the process.
