My son and I just finished repairing his 2011 Lariat in under 3 hours. Best instructional video I’ve seen on RUclips. We were able to recline the seats to keep from removing them, but followed the video and it went smoothly. Especially like it when tool sizes are given. Saves a lot of guessing. Thanks again!

As of 16 Jul 2018, there have been apparently 28 dealerships and/or body shops that have seen this video, and hate it for its glorious awesomeness, as it's taken business away from them.

This is the best instructional video on RUclips. You can see everything from the instructor's view. It’s step by step articulate. No bull meandering talk. My son in law and I started at 7:30 AM. We finished at 1:00 PM. Took a 45 minute break for lunch. About 4.5 hours work. Parts $112.00 dealership wanted $2,000. Thank you so much, my hat is off to you.
Me and my friend fixed my sunroof yesterday, took us 7.5 hours but for a 17 and a 16 year old who had no experience I think we did great. We saved a lot of money and even gained respect from our families! Thank you for your useful content

I tackled this today. I've speed-watched this video a couple times prior to starting work. I put about 4 hours into the job with help from my teenage son. I can't thank you enough for going to the trouble to piece this together. You deserve some form of RUclips award for this effort.
Thank You AutoRex, I own a 2010 F-150 Platinum. Sunroof locked in the open position. Ford Dealer wanted $2,400.00 or a small mom & pop shop wanted $900.00. or $250.00 to shut it in permanently. Abel, do you remember how you were able to get the glass off? My 2012 FX2 has the same issue. Glass completely open and will not budge. Trying to gather my instructions and plan before starting the job. I appreciate your help.

Hope you have someone to get it fixed. It's a lot of work. I finally figured out why they charge so much.
I had an issue where after programming/re learning the sunroof motor, it would not tilt up after closing to seal with the roof line but everything else worked no problem. I chased this issue for 2 weeks only to find out it was something so simple causing it. I did not bend back the stops…. I even removed the assembly and replaced the components again thinking I had a batch of bad parts. How frustrating, but it’s all fixed now. Just wanted to comment this so other people that have the same issue can check this. Thanks for the great instructional video.
6 years later and this is still helping people. I am about to have to buy and install a new sunroof mount and everything thanks to some not nice people destroying my truck. This is by far the best instructional video I've seen. it was straight to the point and no bull. just do this, then do this. So simple to follow. Did mine on Friday last week. Parts came fast! Took me 5.5 hours just double checking and figuring out programming.
7 years later and you’re video is still incredible. I fast forward through most of it because I’m not currently doing the repair. But I wanted to get an idea of what it was gonna take. It was very daunting to think about as I’ve heard it’s a very invasive repair and I just bought the truck recently.
Dealership told me about 750 minimum to fix, shop told me over 1k. I don’t have that money. The $90 kit is gonna be otw shortly and I’m gonna be watching this video again the day of the install. I greatly appreciate you. I feel super confident I can get this fixed much sooner than I thought. Much love to you

I was coming home from work and my sunroof got stuck in the open position. Called around town and found very few willing to do the job. Of the two that said they would, one wanted $1,425 and the dealer wanted $2,500. The dealer said they couldn't tell me what parts I needed until they looked at it for $90, and then would not be able to get to it for two weeks. I went online, saw your video, bought the parts through Amazon, and my wife and I did the job ourselves for $65. We took our time and had lots of interruptions as it was Labor Day weekend. Bottom line though is that thanks to you, we got it done and saved a lot of money. Important note to future watchers: be sure to watch the video through to the end. Great video.
how did you get the glass slid back forward to the closed position?

Fantastic repair video! Just completed the repair and wanted to note something. If you complete the repair and your sunroof won’t open/close, try lowering the glass a bit. I installed the glass flush with the roof and then once it was all hooked up, it tried to move but wouldn’t. Lowered the glass and it worked. Also don’t forget to reprogram the unit by holding the slide button for 10 seconds.

I was quoted $2700 to fix mine, I have the parts from sunroof doctor and I'll be repairing it myself this weekend, you've given me a bucket of confidence on doing this, this was a great service to the F150 community.
Essentially this applies to most of the Ford sun roofs including my F250 King Ranch
This problem reflects POOR ENGINEERING. Check out how easy it is to repair a BMW sun roof...they don't even touch the head liner apparently. I will give FORD the credit for the best tail gait step. The Denali has nothing to office over the safety bar for holding onto. I hope FORD engineers do not change their design. Generally love my 2011 F250 King Ranch Diesel but praying nothing else goes wrong out of warranty with only 45,000 miles. This $3000 the dealer wanted makes me reconsider an extended warranty if I can find one.

They wanted 3k to do this in Houston TX 06/08/2020..... Looking at ebay parts now and considering doing this myself or hiring someone that will do it with parts I get for several hundred. Not sure if I want to try this or not.

You are the best. I paid a friend $200 to help me and we did it in just over 3 hours. With parts, labor , a rivet tool, I'm done with a total of $340. Compared to $2000 that the dealer quoted me. Plus, now I know how to do it if it happens again. Thank you for showing every detail.
Best how-to video EVER! Dude, you saved me a fortune!!!!! Ford wanted $2600 to fix my sunroof. Another garage wanted $2000. After seeing your video I went ahead and bought the kit, a few new metric tools and followed your instructions on my computer as I did the install. I literally just finished. It took me 8 hours (including clean-up and a quick break for lunch). Clearly I am not a mechanic. I'm happy to report it works!!!!!!!!! I cannot thank you enough! FYI: My truck is a 2013 Lariat so it was just about identical to the platinum.
I don’t typically write reviews regarding the content of RUclips instructional videos but this video is EXCEPTIONAL and deserves the recognition! I purchased the replacement parts from The Sun Roof Doctor and made the repair myself following this video step-by-step. It didn’t miss a thing in the process of the repair and It saved me over $2,400 from the
quoted dealer price! One small hick-up involved re-calibration of the motor (my confusion only) but a call to The Sun
Roof Doctor resolved that in 5 minutes! I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

You saved me $1500!! It wasn’t an easy job but also thanks to your step by step guide... didn’t require a lot of skill. I am by no means a mechanic and I was able to do it myself with the help of my kid for the removal and installation of the sunroof frame. It took me about 8 hours total. I did run into an issue where the sunroof wouldn’t open at all when I first installed it. The tilt worked but not the slide. I ran out of daylight so my plan was to work it this morning. I figured I’d give it a run before removing the headliner and checking the motor.. said a little prayer and it opened! Not sure if it was divine intervention or it just took time for the motor to reset but either way... I’m thankful! :)

I used a 3/16" drill bit on the rivets. It's a better fit for removing the rivet's core.

I agree. Using the 5/8th inch drill mentioned in the video caused me to drill through the plastic for two of the rivets. The fix was simple, though. I just used rivets with large heads and put a small washer underneath for the rivet to compress in.

8/11/19...I never post reviews but this video tutorial is absolutely incredible. My sunroof wouldn't close, so, I took my F150 to my local Ford store and they diagnosed it as needing a whole new track assembly and quoted me $2500.00 for the repair. After finding your video I purchased the same kit you show from the Sunroof Doctor ($120.00 including shipping). I followed your video step by step and everything came together just as it does in your video. My total time invested in the repair was about 3 hours and my sunroof works perfectly! Thank you for this video!
This is an amazing video. A couple of learning moments for me. 1) The kit does not come with good instructions so you should photograph the broken mechanisms prior to removing them so you can reference them during reassembly. 2) do not use power hand tools to tighten any screws or bolts.... Thank you for this video, It saved me a ton of $$$
5 hour solo job. Just finished this on my 2013 f150 King ranch. I ended up leaving the seats in and just working on the repair inside the truck, drilling out old rivets, cleaning track and applying generous LUBE on track and track assembly parts. I reclined the seats enough to rest the headliner and sunroof on the 2 headrests. I then placed some empty boxes on the front seats to support the rest of the headliner.
I pushed this off for the last 1.5 years and finally decided it was time, since the upcoming fireworks show is a drive-up. It sure is nice to have it working again. Thanks for the tutorial!!

Made this repair on my 2013 Fx4. Really appreciate your detailed video. My sunroof was broken when I bought the truck and the dealership agreed to pay for the repair. Ford Dealership said it would be weeks before they had time to look at it. Made a deal with the dealer I bought it from and they cut me a check for 800 bucks. I bought the kit for $120, and did the complete tear down and put together in about 4 hours by myself, and pocketed the extra $680, not too bad!
This was AWESOME Man, you are the king...have a 2011 F150 FX4, SuperCab, two suicide doors vs the full 4 door as in the video. But no different, just a bit easier with my truck as I was able to remove the headline from the inside to just get it out of the way. And didn't have to remove the seats or the sub-woofer under the back seat...6 hours, start to finish. This also included drilling out the rivets twice (which required a trip the hardware store). When I was testing prior to installation back into the truck, I ran the rail up too far and it popped out. Didn't want to chance breaking it so figure I'd just redo the rivets again. Awesome, awesome video!!!! Saved me a boatload of money. And for anyone else who it thinking about doing this, it's not all that hard, all you need is patience and a few hours...patience is key, take your time and reference the video. Seriously, not that hard to do. Here is the parts list from the video and a few suggestions:
Phillip head screw driver
Small ended screw driver
90 degree pick tool or something similar to remove plastic covers
Pry tool
T20 Torque
T25 Torque
4mm allen head
7mm hex head
8mm hex head
7mm socket
8mm socket
13mm socket
15mm socket - Only needed if you are removing the seat.
T50 Torque - Only needed if you have to remove the seat-belts.
5/16 drill bit
- Some smaller ones too in case you need to drill out more of the rivets
Rivet gun - Extra rivets too (3/16 x 1/4" Grab, use aluminum easier to break)…Just in case.

This video is spot on. I had a few differences in my 2012 F250, but pretty much the same.
I did mine over this past weekend. You DON'T have to take it out of the truck. Fold your front seats all the way down. Take the headliner down. Unscrew the sunroof track, drop it down, repair it, and screw it back up. Worked great, and no seat removal required. It's helpful if you have someone to assist when you do the motor housing, but i did it all myself.

Had a friend help for ten minutes twice, other than that did it solo. Video was easy to follow and covered everything needed for a rookie to do the job. I suggest zip lock bags and organizing everything you're taking apart. Video is a 10/10 and saved me $$$.
and you have really nice voice and explain everything made it so which and eawy. btw. I didn't finish watching the video,miss the test part. so there was a gap between sunroof and the rooftop. have to open the headliner again to manually adjuste the motor. hope anyone who see my comment won't make same mistake.
Pretty sure I made the same mistake today. Got it to close for the evening but I’ll make the adjustment in the morning. Great video and still worth the hassle to save $2K!
Richard, I think I did the same thing too. I may have not had the sliders fully forward (i.e., in the "fully closed" position), so I might have to remove the headliner and manually adjust the motor to make the sliders go fully forward/fully closed.
Echoing all the positive comments here, but I was especially appreciative of the fact that you filmed all of the actual steps vs starting them, then jumping the video to the next step. Gave me time to follow along and also made sure I wasn’t missing any nuanced parts.
Personal Note: the bolts that bolt down the seat are threaded through the exterior of the car frame and tend to rust. Not sure if this this is an auto regulation, but if not, what a design flaw; breaker bar even had a hard time loosening them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you AutoRex!!!! Get this; I called the dealership in Harlingen TX (don't ever go there Boggus Ford) and they tried to charge me for the parts, are you ready for this? A whooping $1200 and labor for another $1000 WOOOOOW! But it gets better. I didnt have all the tools necessary to do the job so I took it to a local body shop and they say yeah no problem. I bought the parts and they said labor would cost $300 and I was ok with it. Two days later without hearing from them I called them and they told me that they couldn't do it without removing the windshield, center console and both front seats and I just laugh at them. I told them to put couple of bolts in the sunroof and I drove to my house. It took me about 8 hours and repeating the video and had to buy the ratchet cutting tool but all in all it went awesome! It went dark on me so I couldnt test hook up to the controls yet do to the fact that I still have some bolts to put back on but overall YOU ARE AWESOME!!!! IF I ever meet you I buy you a few dozen beers man! The only thing I was bug down with was that black weather bar that screws to the actual plastic parts and maybe it could have been explain better but at the end I figure it out and I figured you were pretty ready to be done by then so it is all good. I thank you so much! You saved me a ton of money and because of you everyone around my family thinks I am a bad ass cuz I did it all by myself. Of course every time someone was around I hid the phone so they couldn't see it lol but do not worry My brother has the same truck and I will make sure that you get all the credit!!!!
Great video- my only issue was when I put the glass back in it wasn’t sliding back. After I adjusted the glass height in the rear brackets it functioned perfectly and then I did the factory reset like he did in the video. The video is amazing, but I was pretty disappointed when after completing the project it wouldn’t slide, but after I adjusted it I’m happy. Hope this helps - thanks for the video. Cheers
You sir, and The Sunroof Doctor, are amazing! For less than $250 CAD I had the kit shipped to my house here in Ontario, and 2 buddies and myself had the entire project finished in under 3 hours. (that's with a Tim Hortons coffee break mid way) The dealership wanted to install a completely new sunroof for over $2000, and after I showed them this video and where to buy the parts they said it would still cost me at least $1000 in labor. Happy to have my sunroof working again just in time for the nice weather, without it killing me in the financial department. Thanks again!

This video is spot on and even better than the instructions that the kit comes with. Here's my .02 to help also:
IMO you don't need to pull the front pillar covers off nor the front seats nor the side b pillar. The headliner I have taken out fully a few times and you can fold it and when you put it back in no issues.
Also, I after I put the glass back in I didn't have it fully installed correctly, sitting to high, and when I went to go and try operating it the first time it was not opening like it was jammed. So my suggestion would be put the glass in but keep the screws loose so the glass is resting and then operate electrically the sunroof. Once you know it fully operates open and closed then adjust the glass and tighten the screws so it's properly lined up with the roof and sealed.
Having a second set of hands does help for removal and reinstallation of the track system.
Agree fully removing the front pillars is unnecessary. Initially I left the front passenger seat in but realized I wasn’t getting the sunroof assy out without removing the seat. I wasn’t about to fold the headliner and try to remove it...even with doing it as described in the video I had some small fold marks in the rear.
Mine wouldn't open either. With the screws loose it opens fine. Once I level it flush it's back to being stuck again. Any ideas?
Not sure what 121 people could possibly not like about this step-by--step super thorough and idiot proof video. I bought a $24 sunroof repair kit on Amazon, even had one end of the a bar snap and did a split repair with the old part with a piece of plastic and 4 screws and adjust the left side of my sunroof after reinstallation by removing the motor and moving the arms up. All went exactly as shown. This is what we all want to find on You Tube but only a few like AutoRex do it best. Thanks very, very for tis. Even with a warranty on my 2010 F150 I could not find a place even willing to do this repair. Save thousands by using this.

Have to echo the same thing that everyone else said in the comments. Thank you for making this video. I have a 2010 F150 FX4 extended cab. I didn't need to take out the seat or the sub woofer. I also didn't have the B-Pillar to mess with. I thought I screwed it yup and then came back to watch the end where you recalibrate. After recalibrating, my sunroom works like a charm. I did this by myself and it took 3 hours. Had my wife help lower the assembly and then helped raise it when it was done. Again, thank you.

Really was scared to attempt this work on my 2010 F250 King Rancher then i found this video. Minor changes between my truck and this on but overall same concepts. Worked first try. Definitely more steps involved but did not have to remove any seats.
Used cardboard on headliner once dropped down and slip frame out the back.
The rebuilding of tracks was a huge benefit though.
Sunroof has been broke since the day after I bought this truck and wife accidentally moved it this spring causing water to start leaking in.
I had a sunroof doctor kit laying around because of long back order times and your video was spot on and very helpful.
Maybe took 6 hours and that’s because I had like 5 other tasks going on today.

Thank you so much for posting this. Just like everyone else is saying, you literally saved me thousands fixing my 2013 FX4. The only thing I did different is not take out the front passenger seat. Went to loosen the bolts and they just wouldn’t budge. Thankfully the sunroof came out just fine! I did take the sub out though and if I hadn’t the sunroof definitely wouldn’t have come out. For those who don’t want to watch the whole hour+ to know what tools you need, you’ll need the following. I may have missed some: socket set with extension, 7mm, 8mm, 13mm. A T50 and T20 torx head. A rivet gun that can do 4mm rivets. Phillips screw driver. Flat head screwdriver. Hammer. And A rope if you’re doing this yourself. I’m half way handy and I would say I had a total of 8+ hours in it so plan for an entire day. Get under a carport or in your garage if you are expecting some weather. Also I got the cheap $34 kit from amazon and it fit just fine. I was worried it wouldn’t but it did.
Man I really appreciated this video mine broke in 2023 and it was a 2014 150 thank you thank you I followed step by step got it done in a couple days took advantage of seat out and did a little cleaning .thanks again I wouldn't have been able to get that done without your video I really appreciate that 🙏🏻 and shame on ford for making things that are like that it should not be that difficult to change a sunroof.

Thanks for the great video. Made it very easy to complete. I finished a 2010 EL repair today. I just dropped the whole headliner and then took the sunroof out the back. Very easy and you do not have to take the seats out. I just dropped the back seats and removed the front headrests and lowered those. Total time with my son was about 4 hours.
Best video imaginable! Dealer quoted me over $4,000. Cost me less than $200 and did it in a weekend. 2010 king ranch, I recommend removing passenger seat as it makes it easier to remove the sunroof after the headliner is down, very tight fit!

This video is great! I have a 2012 F-150 Platinum, so this was a nearly identical copy. Dealership wanted over $1k to do. Kit cost me $45, had to buy a rivet gun at $17 and a T50 bit at $3, so the whole thing cost me $65 and 4 hours of time. Very detailed and made so much sense. Thanks AutoRex!
First, awesome video. Second, I found some places to save time. I only had to remove the front passenger A pillar. I pulled the top of the driver’s A pillar, but didn’t bother with the B or C pillars. You can remove and reinstall the roof liner without messing with those pillar covers. This also means that you only need to remove the door gaskets along the top edge, not all the way to the bottom. While I understand that you feel it makes it easier to move around, you also don’t need to remove the seat. Because of your video, on my first try, I was able to complete the repair in less than 4 hours. Over half of that time was on the actual repair of the track. Drilling out the rivets was a royal pain so I ended up opting to use a dremel to cut the heads off. Dealer wanted $2400 for repair, my parts cost was $80 including the rivet gun I had to purchase because I didn’t have it already. Thanks a bunch.
Awesome info bud. Im getting ready to do this job myself and since the liner stays in the car, I was curious if I could just keel the pass seat in the car like you did. I have a 2013 f350 that I will be doing this to. I was also curious if I do away with not removing some of the pillars like you did.
@@juanDTRsx Definitely. I just pulled the head rests off all the seats to provide a little more room, but otherwise you can do it without a lot of that unnecessary work. Good luck.

So after my sunroof broke from wear and tear I saw this video and saved 1,880.00 dollars! It took me 5 hrs. and resyncing the motor to sunroof afterwards bout 5 minutes. I though I had done something wrong when I finished but then thought about something that isn't on the video, if you take it apart open then it needs to go back in open if you take it off closed it needs to go back that way as well, so if it doesn't work or open after you have done the job, simply get a #4 allen socket and turn the motor so that the sunroof is in the open position, then reset the sunroof by pressing the sunroof close for 30 seconds and it will toggle back and forth then release switch and then press switch again and it will now close ensuring tilt work and sun roof is flush. all in all Thank You AutoRex!!!!! keep up the good work!!!

Just completed this repair tutorial today. Dealership was going to charge 1800+ to repair. Finished in a little over 5 hours and only spent 100 on the kit and 60 or so on some tools. Saved a ton a money thanks alot for the video. Extremely recommend.

I bought a kit for $25.00 for my 2013 Ford Crew Cab King Ranch, spent three nights in the garage with a neighbors help to install the Kit. I would have never tried it without this video it is accurate and complete. Pay attention to his comments as he does it, they can be important, we installed the sunroof and aligned it before we reinstalled the headliner in case we messed something up. The last comments about setting the limits is extremely important and it took me a few times to get it to work but once I got it programmed it worked perfectly.
Best guidance I have seen on RUclips so far!! I added a channel just to thank you. Plus the haters who I thumbing down are the ones getting over til this video came out.

Just want to say thanks, you saved me thousands. For people who are nervous, you can do this. I have never really worked on a car before and so far I am in the putting back together phase. Having one other person helps, but the rope trick works. Be sure to take the passenger seat out, I didnt and it made it harder. You will need a t set with at least a 20, 25 and 50. You will need a good socket set and a rivot gun. Take it very slow, do exactly as he does and it should work (as long as you got the right kit). Its a lot of manual labor, but nothing that takes any mechanical knowledge.
11 Apr 2020: I used this video to replace the sunroof tracks in my 2014 F-150. This is the most detailed, excellent, well filmed video I have ever used in at-home car/truck repair. Thank you for posting this, for posting the parts (and vendor), and for calling out the tool specifications. All total I spent 6 hours and $78 to repair an issue that the dealership quoted to me as a minimum of $2000.

Just finished this project. HUGE THANK YOU! The directions were perfect from start to finish. 2 things;
1) we used a 3/16 drill bit on rivets & had to grip from bottom to keep from spinning.
2) we needed to adjust the glass vertically to get right closure - this was a simple fix by loosening the 4 screws, set to right position & retighten (this may have been in the video, if so i missed it). Cheers!

My sunroof broke two days ago and I watched this video before going to the dealership. The service rep said the main frame was plastic and cracked (I argued that the frame was metal but he refused to agree) and it would be a $4000.00 repair! I told him it was a $199.00 kit and I would pay for 6 hours at $100 per hour for a total of $800.00.
I removed the glass, fished out the broken 1/2" piece of plastic that was hanging things up and reinstalled/aligned the glass so I could wash my truck.
My parts are on order and I'm certain I can take my time and carefully accomplish this in an afternoon.

Haven't watched the video yet, but my sunroof on my 11 F1fiddy made 2 pops and came open but won't shut. Dealer quoted me $1960, 2 local body shops said they don't do sunroofs. So I'm own my own. Just by reading the comments I believe I came to the right video. I'll start this repair job myself soon and come back and comment how it goes. Wish me luck

Can't thank you enough for your excellent video. It made for an easy repair and saved me a lot of money. I initially contacted two Ford dealerships. The first dealership said they could not give me a repair estimate or schedule the repair for five weeks. I spoke directly with the service manager at the second dealership. He estimated the repair cost between $2,000 and $3,200, but said the ultimate cost would depend on what his mechanics found after their initial inspection (which meant after they completely disassembled the interior and I was stuck with them). The inspection would take three days. What a crock! Found your video. Went with Sunroof Doctor parts (made in USA), cost $106 total ($85 parts + tax + shipping). Repair completed in 5 hours. I chose not to remove the right front seat or the subwoof/amp box because I had a helper. Was able to get the sunroof frame in and out through the driver side rear door no problem. Would have removed them if I didn't have a helper. Thanks again.

You are a life saver, I just bought a 2014 F-150 lariat 5 weeks ago, The sunroof got on the right side and would not do anything, but stick open. I panicked an took it to the Ford Dealership in Muncie, IN, and they told me my rail was cracked on that side, thats why it wont work properly, I said how does plastic parts break an aluminum, or metal track what ever there is, there is no way. Their quote to me was $2384.58, and they don't fix yours, that is the whole unit itself. i took your advise and got my parts from the website, for $119.00 and a $10.00 socket i didn't have the T50, I payed $130.00 and 4 1/2 hours I was loving life again, so THANK YOU SO MUCH, you saved many peoples lives, cause i was ready to take some people out, i was so mad over that price. Thank you again.
So for all of you that have completed this install, how has your sunroof worked since the repair?? Im almost scared to open any of the windows on my truck at this point. First it was my sunroof, then my sliding back window wont close... these 09-14 f150s seem to have alot recalls that Ford should of taken care of instead of us all having to pay out of pocket and do 8 hour home repair jobs smh
2 years with no sunroof was solved in about 3 hours with $100. of the sunroof doctor parts kit and this video (did not remove the seat or the headliner from the vehicle) but the video was great and told me everything needed. I thought you were going to take out 4 screws in glass and stand up through opening and fix this. Then you started gutting out the truck internals and you were so chill about it. I was cussing way before you started drilling and pounding out metal tabs. My neighbor just spent $1300 getting this same repair done on his 2014 but I think I will attempt this based on your kickass tutorial here. Many owners owe you gratitude for this gem.

Until I watched your video I was skeptical about doing it, because the other YT videos were not as detailed as yours.
A local shop quoted me $700 to replace my sunroof assembly with a USED sunroof out of a salvaged truck. Everyone else was over $1500!! So you saved me almost 600 bones minimum! And I'll be replacing the broken parts with new parts from sunroofdoctor. Which I'm sure will last much longer than the brittle, already sun beaten plastic out of a wrecked truck!

+JB plays Thanks for the comment! The F-250 headliner removal process is different, but the differences are subtle and the entire sunroof removal process is much easier on an F-250. More room to work. I cringe whenever a shop installs a used sunroof! That is not the correct fix IMO. A used unit is far more expensive than the repair kit, plus there is no telling when it is going to fail and you're right back to square one! Great video! I expect to use it this weekend to replace the sunroof on my 2016 f250 crewcab. Do you have any tips around removing the headliner that may be different than this video or should it be fairly straight forward albeit slightly different?

There are subtle differences in the F-250 but they are minor and you should have no problem getting the headliner down. I find the F-250 much easier to do because the larger cab gives more room to work.

Quick follow up.....ordered the parts from www.sunroofdoctor.com/....did the work today using th video as a guide. Highly recommend this fix and video. USE THE VIDEO verbatim.
This video and the step by step instructions gave me the confidence to attempt a self repair as I couldn't afford the $1450 I was quoted on the repair. I had waited over 2 years over fears of the repair failing, but the video made the repair look so doable, I spent the $80 on the parts, and started with step 1. All I can say is that I could never have done my 2012 Expedition without this video. It saved me over $1300 and when I had everything reinstalled, hit the button and the sunroof slid back just as new, I felt a great degree of satisfaction because I had done it!
Just did my repair and followed the video to the letter. I also took the opportunity to replace the sunroof weather seal and the overhead switches.
This is, as everyone says, the best and most useful RUclips video.....even if only 200 people follow this video, you will have saved people over $200K in total....I bet it is much more.

This is by far the most valuable video I have seen. This saved my son $1,700 that Ford wanted to fix his 2010 F-150; which he was about to sell. We had a couple issues. First, the 7mm socket I had was not working on the trim parts. I ended up using a 9/32. The 8mm parts all worked with my 8mm socket from the same set. Second, when we put the assembly back together we didn't move the track assembly to the front position; we had to partially remove the headliner again and then manually move the assembly forward to install the glass. Third, at the end of the process we tried testing the sunroof but it would only tilt and would not go back. We followed a suggestion in the comments here to hold the slide button for 45 which resets the motor. That solved it and the sunroof slid back and we were able to reprogram the stopping points. Also, it really helps to have a second person helping with this repair.
This is perhaps THEE most useful RUclips video I've seen. The local sunroof guru said he would have to find used replacement parts (WHAT?). The local garage I deal with said they could install the parts.....8-10 hour job @ $75 per hour (YIKES). After watching your video a couple of times, I decided I could do it myself.
Using my tablet, I followed the video step-by-step and it took me about a day to do it (probably less for someone less buffoonish than me).

I have a 2013 F250 and stumbled across this video after I had to change out my sun roof glass that shattered driving down the road. Well after replacing the glass, I started testing the sun roof out and that's when I damaged the track system. I ordered the kit and had to wait a few months before I got back home to replace it. I looked at this video about 10 times before I decided to try it. This video was so simple to follow. There are a few differences, such as not having to fully take out the b pillars or remove the seat belt when removing the passenger seat, but most was exactly as was described. With help from the wife, it took me about 5.5 hours, start to finish. And we all know how much money this saved me. Besides me almost cutting off my finger after grabbing the seat to put back in the truck, the install was flawless, thanks to this video.

My son and I did it in about 4 hours. It only cost me $60 for a genuine Ford parts kit online and I had to purchase a snap rivet tool for about $30 (yeah, more tools). I appreciated the step by step directions and the guy was easy to understand and excellent camera footage from his body cam. Because I have a super-cab not a crew cab, we were able to skip a bunch of steps because my truck doesn't have a "B" pillar. Therefore we didn't have to remove the passenger seat, subwoofer, seat belt assemblies, etc. I don't comment much on social media but I saved over $2k so I felt a positive shout out was in order. Just finished this repair myself-thank you so much for making this video! I did it without removing the passenger seat but also (for some reason) thought I’d try it without removing the sub woofer…absolutely remove the subwoofer-I scratched up the inside of my rear passenger door trying to force the moonroof out with the subwoofer installed. Once I took the sub out it was so easy to fit the moonroof out. Thanks again!! 2012 F-150 Lariat for reference.

Great do-it-yourself project. This saved a huge amount of money over having a dealership do it. The project for a first timer is slow and tedious. My only time I got bogged down was properly installing the new tracking system into railing system. Called the sun roof doctor support staff and they were great as well. I thank the young man that did the video, he is well above his time as a trainer!
