Typically a dealer is going to look at the worst case scenario and quote that, so when they fix it for $5 they know you are gonna be really happy and impressed.
Josh a few tips from someone who has done that job many many many times... first I must apologize for the dealership that you called .. there is a service bulletin on that sunroof rails and he /she should of known about that !!! 2nd be sure and use Krytox chemours GPL 205 grease on them rails use the entire contents of the tube on both sides equally Yes it's expensive but it's the only product that I recommend putting on DO NOT use white lithium grease!! 3rd The adjustment on that sunroof is 0 to 1 mm negative in the front from the roofline and 0 to1 mm positive to the rear roof line measured approximately one and a half inches from the sides of the sunroof when you get done it should be down just to smidget in the front below the roof line and above the glass in the back just a smidge... once you are done if the sunroof bounces back and will not close correctly there is a procedure that you need to do to correct that I can provide you with that information also if you need it otherwise you did a great job installing them sunroof rails!!!
This was awesome! I just took my 2013 F-150 to the dealer for this same issue! They said they’d have to take down the headliner to do this repair! You didn’t have to do all that???
well...not buying something because it could potentially be troublesome seems like a tough way to live my friend...anything mechanical is eventually going to fail....however I do believe there are some flaws in this design...the panoramic sunroof makes this truck so enjoyable to drive....I'm not sure I'd ever buy another truck without this feature if it was available....yes...it's transportation...but we aren't talking about a delivery van...it's a luxury pickup that's such a joy to drive
Add to that with a sunroof you lose headroom too. People don't think about that either, and when that thing fails its expensive to fix, and when it leaks its not only expensive to fix, you probably damaged the interior too by the time you figured out where the thing was leaking from. But hey who cares you got that $80k fancy truck, when you trade it in after your lease is up it ain't gonna be your problem anyways.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I have owned one sunroof. I have five kids and enough on my plate. Don't need make work maintenance for a feature I have absolutely no use for. this piece of junk is sold! No more new ford for me! Now...as for the adjustment....you've just gotta try and match up where the screws were removed...it may take a bit but you'll get it if you keep at it
I have been having the same issue with our dealer. They wanted to charge me $4000 for fix the issue with my F-150. I mentioned to an older gentleman down the street. It took him fifteen minutes and cost a whopping $12 to fix! What a rip off. They should be ashamed of themselves.
You called the dealer and told them the sunroof in your $80k truck was broken....they're going to quote you the worst case scenario possible to fix it...that way when you take it in and its the $10 Amazon plastic rails that fix it, you'll be so happy that you saved $3500 on the $500 bill you'll forget you bought a plastic truck. Very common case in every vehicle built now. Cheap plastic parts, Chinese motors, electronics that will fail, and most times its stuff that isn't a warranty issue, its a wear item so it gets the dealer off the hook for repairs. Today's overly complex built vehicles are cool on paper, but nobody bothers to think what's gonna happen a couple years later when all that fancy stuff starts breaking and there isn't a way to fix it. Even a base model 4x4 regular cab truck is $40k+ now, even at that its still crammed full of cheap plastic and a electronic disaster waiting to happen. The components rebuilders are loving today's automotive world in all the failures of those components...YIKES, it all comes back and bites us in the end at some point, might not be you, but whoever ends up driving that car, truck, SUV, etc. after you trade it in after your luxury lease is up gets to deal with all that mess.
Josh, I really don’t think there is a lot of difference in the make of the truck but you hit the nail on the head when you said you talked to someone representing the service department. 2000.00 to fix a moon roof. If you would have bit on that he knew he had a big fish on the line. Knowing your willing to pay that kind of money to fix something that isn’t essential to the main running components is like telling them here’s my checkbook call me when your done. And in todays corrupted world it’s a shame but it’s the way things are. Find yourself a older mechanic that works from his garage. Someone like that can save you a bunch of 💰 money.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Hello, my comment disappeared almost immediately after I posted it, don't know if replying to yours will work. Wanted to let you know that piece you fished out? You can check my channel for a video about that exact piece if you like, and another one that shows the typical broken pieces from the arms themselves.
There's a good RUclips video about how you should first help the pop-up window by pushing up on it to relieve any excess pressure on the rack system while hitting the pop-up button prior to using the rest of the system. Especially if it hasn't been operated in a while. That is what someone explained whom had been working with these sunroofs for many years.

I heard a crunch and my sunroof fell in on one corner. I was able to get it seated flush but I need to take a look and see if this is what failed. What a pain! How has this been holding up for you?
All the things you mentioned about the cheapness of the cabin translate to the rest of the vehicle. Those and many more ie low quality and high price are why I quit driving Fords in the 80's. I have a brother that is a Ford mechanic at a dealership. You wouldn't believe the stuff I have heard. Frankly all the new ones have the same problem, they are just made to look pretty for a very short while, not made to WORK anymore. Give me the older trucks and I'm a happy girl.
I've been a mechanic (ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician, ASE Certified L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist, plus hundreds of other certifications and training seminars) for 30+ years and I can tell you every manufacturer has their fair share of lemons and engineers that need to be slapped. All manufacturers have groups of more and less problematic vehicles centered around particular systems. But to make generalized claims that one automaker or group of automakers is better or worse than another is short-sighted at best. Every vehicle owner has prejudices, biases, and gripes whether warranted or not. Most times the problems are bad owners rather than bad vehicles. My biggest gripe is to listen to a person bluster on about this vehicle being junk and this vehicle is a gem, this manufacturer sucks and this manufacturer is flawless. I call bullshit. Show me the service records on your vehicles. Were they regularly and properly maintained? Doubt it. Pull out your owner's manual, is it still in the shrink wrap unread? Probably. Have you heeded all of the manufacturer's bulletins and recall notices? Rarely. Do you listen to your mechanic's recommendations? (Not the service advisor trying to make an upsell)
Hey Josh thank you for the video but I would only buy the older Toyota's like you have there because I know that they will last with low maintenance done to it and maybe even in the year 2015 year range Toyota to
in your last video when you first got the truck, you sounded very positive about it, but now you sound more negative. Could you talk about some of the cons and negative issues you've noticed since driving it for a while, such as the worn out steering wheel? You mentioned "falling apart" what other things are starting to break? I'm curious about this since I'm also looking a a used Raptor, and I would like to see if they are common issues we can fix our selves or should stay away all together. thanks!
I have found that anti-bacterial hand sanitizer can strip the paint off car parts, so I stopped using it. I wondering if that's what happened to your steering wheel.
How easy is it fixing a leaking water pump? Or how long do head gaskets last , trucks are the most over price money pits on the road, actually lower price to keep rebuilding an older model.
I have regretted the purchase of my F150 almost since the day I bought it. The moonroof was only one of a myriad of failures on this cheap junk truck. It should’ve been recalled along with their Chinese wiring harnesses but that didn’t happen so I vote with my feet. Next time, Toyota.
They're sharp looking trucks, but the ecoboost v6 engines are ticking time bombs and EVERYTHING on them is expensive to fix and replace. I only know that because my dad's neighbor has had his in and out of the shop numerous times over the past 12 months. Everything from the transmission to the head gaskets, radiator and plastic oil pan.
Pssh, i watched this hoping you’d explain how to do the adjustment at the end just to be told i’m gonna have to do some adjustment at the end 😂. Welp thanks anyways

I think that all makes of vehicle have their challenges - but I have had bad experiences with Ford Mustangs that got me to swear off Ford products 30 years ago. My first Mustang was a '74 Mustang II. Long story short - it was a POS that I bought used and had to constantly repair. My second (and last) Mustang was an '89. It was a far better machine than the '74 was, but it was still a huge PIA to work on. I enjoyed driving it, but the few things I did to it were enough to finish my interest in Fords. I moved on to Dodge Ram pickups and although they are far from perfect, I've found them to be 'good enough' that I am on my 3rd one (I buy new vehicles and typically run them for about 10 years). We'll see how much longer I decide to keep my 2013 Ram 1500 Tradesman. With the current insanity in the motor vehicle world, I'll likely run this truck until the wheels fall off...
Why its falling apart it has a f in it lol and its in the 2000 but if you get one that has a t it's better lol. But anyway newer Vehicles are Design To break sooner.

You that right brother ! 📌
Hey Josh thank you for the video but I would only buy the older Toyota's like you have there because I know that they will last with low maintenance done to it and maybe even in the year 2015 year range Toyota to
So! Can someone explain why Ford uses plastic instead of metal for this assembly?
it's just gotta last until the warranty runs out!!! FORD!!!! GRRR...I'd rather have a 1994 F350
in your last video when you first got the truck, you sounded very positive about it, but now you sound more negative.
I wondering if that's what happened to your steering wheel.
probably is...you gotta wait till your hands dry before ya start touching plastics and leather for sure
It's Achilles Tendon. 🙂🙃🙂
All new trucks have issues. I really think that a low end Ram is the way to go right now for the money.
exactly what I'm looking at right now!
How easy is it fixing a leaking water pump? Or how long do head gaskets last , trucks are the most over price money pits on the road, actually lower price to keep rebuilding an older model.
lol....well...we all can't get by with just a honda civic so this is what we have to choose my brotha
was hear
woooooo!
I have regretted the purchase of my F150 almost since the day I bought it. The moonroof was only one of a myriad of failures on this cheap junk truck. It should’ve been recalled along with their Chinese wiring harnesses but that didn’t happen so I vote with my feet. Next time, Toyota.
I'd skip Toyota too...they've also jumped on the underpowered engine bandwagon with a turbo to pretend its an engine.
Hey if you're going to spend the money, by something that that must be better I did ,a Ford man ,97 and up are junk.......
My steering wheel did the same got a new one lasted 7 months and ford said they wouldn’t honor warranty because it’s a wear and tear.
it is actually covered under warranty...they warrantied mine. The materials should not break down and fall apart
Especially with expensive trucks
They're sharp looking trucks, but the ecoboost v6 engines are ticking time bombs and EVERYTHING on them is expensive to fix and replace. I only know that because my dad's neighbor has had his in and out of the shop numerous times over the past 12 months. Everything from the transmission to the head gaskets, radiator and plastic oil pan.
Had my 2018 raptor 4 years with no engine problems
BTW it was his heal
Looks like Ford still stands for Fix Or Repair Daily. Nothing has changed. Bondo it closed. Thanks for the videos
Fix Or Repair Daily F O R D
Might be time to tidy up the little Toyota Josh and use the raptor as the farm bomb cos I think the Toyota will last U longer lol
Good lord Dealerships are so Scandalous…I don’t trust them.
Pssh, i watched this hoping you’d explain how to do the adjustment at the end just to be told i’m gonna have to do some adjustment at the end 😂. Welp thanks anyways
Nice install Josh I Ilike Ford but I don't like to see parts made in China but you have to buy what you can get to fix your automobile appreciate the videos buddy 👍
Yep if they made an American part I’d buy it brotha for sure
With exception of crack in red indicator , You need to clean it with a strong cleaner like simple green or 409 or fantastic. OR some one has used a solvent cleaner that damaged it. I don't think that. I never used super clean so I don't know if it will work. EVERY one wants a snap on sponsor! Keep up the good videos.
it's not a cleaning issue my friend...it's a wear issue...fyi Super clean is a sponsor of the channel lol
Love your videos you look great how much weight did you lose
85lbs and counting!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer god bless you look good thank you for all your great videos
2015 through 2018 are the same.
I think for body style.
Hi, I don’t think you need to replace the steering wheel just need to be wiped down and clean no problem with paint 😊
leather wrap is gone, some of the buttons are not working properly and the plastic is chipping...replacement is $400...not too bad....depending on whether it drives ya crazy to look at it or not....we shall see
you did not show it working. let down.... lol
Money saver
Eclies heel
👍
Please tell me what your doing to be able to afford all your equipment, toys buildings, fencing....cause I'm not making anywhere near that as I struggle selling a premium farm product in a depressed economy !!
Don't think that's any of your business. It's rude to ask people, "How do you afford all this?". That said, if you want the "American Dream" 1) Stay out of debt and 2) go into business for yourself. Find something you're good at (and something people want/need) and make a living from it.
You don’t create 250 pieces of content per month either buddy….I work my a$$ off and then…..I work it off some more. When you park the truck and tractor I’m still working my man
Leonard Brother let Josh work and have fun and have some toys to ride around in he works his but off on a 150 acre farm and on top of that filming for RUclips as well don't be depressed bud live life and don't watch the news it's all just to get u upset brother have fun work and live out your life
Gonna say RUclips and over 650k subscribers...
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer That's a heck of a comment to someone you know NOTHING about....if you think you work harder than everyone else...I believe they call that arrogance!! Or your having a Biden moment??
Fords have always been a headache. Never will I ever buy one.
Unless your steering wheel is made of wood or metal, anything like rubber, leather, polyester, and pleather will rub off.
my 2000 ram 2500 is in better condition than this 2017 my brotha....it's a poor quality materials issue in my opinion
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer i was saying it was poor quality
You did get they're top of the line. It was never really intended to be a work truck. That said the steering wheel on my 15 xlt looks much better.
it should be tougher than a work truck...made for the toughest terrian
Dude you can put your name on anything and people will watch
lol
Will you ever buy other John Deere tractor
Why would you want to buy a new raptor Josh. Your seeing the one you've got falling apart after just 85k.
I agree.....I'm re-thinking this the longer I have this truck...it's super fun...but not a "farm rig"
It’s falling apart so you want another one 🤔. Check out Scotty Kilmer’s utube. Honest old fellow that’s seen lots of vehicles. You probley won’t enjoy modern Ford brother.
I know Scotty for sure...subscribed to his channel....I like his advice for sure
Awesome video josh hope everything is going well buddy and hope the raptor keeps chugging along for you until the next purchase.
looking at a dually ram truck now....stepping down in price and up in usefulness
Don't blame ya and a dually will be hard to beat when hauling a load of lumber or materials for the farm.
Nice to know but really could not see at all what u was doing 😕
