Broken Clutch Release Lever - Stripped Bolt on Clutch Fork (B Series Transmission EF Civic)
HTML-код

- Wasn't the clutch or internals on the transmission but just the Shift Fork. I was able to find the fork and the shift release arm from a good friend and will be putting it back together soon. I also ordered a Competition Clutch Stage 1.5 to replace my old clutch as I do not want to worry about the clutch giving out on me next.
I've never had this happen before and I'm glad it wasn't a difficult fix. I'll have it running again soon!

great diagnosis! at the very least you'll have a new clutch after getting her back together and be track ready shifting like a boss
I can't wait, hopefully November 19th we'll be out there!
Good diagnosis! Looking forward to part 2!
I like this screen name better!
Jon Widmer me too! I have gone by that old screen name since 1997 :)
Preciate the video I’m having a similar problem with my 1995 Honda Accord ex F22b1 5 speed
👍
Extremely helpful thank you
You're welcome
Thank you for the video! Very informative. Would be nice if you make an update video!
someone needs to open a honda shop lol awesome video as always
Lol, but then I'd never want to work on my own cars!
Jon Widmer true that sir lol
Jon Widmer That is so true! Working as a tech, the last thing you want to do is work on your own vehicles :/
Hey man, new subscriber, love the videos. I just picked a 91 LX Sedan and so far your info. has helped me a lot. Quick question, I'm doing an auto (civic) to manual conversion (swapping in a 5spd B18A1 from my 93 Integra parts car). Any idea how hard its going to be to bolt up the shiftier? Will I need to weld in the tunnel from a 5spd civic (if i can find one lol) or just drill new holes, or none of the above? I have the shorter linkage (Hasport) needed to make the rest work. Thanks for the help, keep up the great videos!!!
Its pretty easy, you'll need to drill 2 holes for the linkage bushing and then either weld some nuts or just use a nut/bolt combo. I only mention the welding because the nuts will spin when trying to tighten the linkage and I'm usually working on cars solo so this was a problem for me. Lol
After removing the auto shifter selector and cables there will be a hole in the tunnel. I used a plate of thin steel and traced around the original cover, drilled 4 holes into the new cover where the original bolts are, and used the original gasket and bolted it up. It worked perfect!
Thanks for subscribing, I really appreciate the support!!
Awesome, thanks for your response/help. I hope to get this project off the ground here in a week or two. I'll let you know how it goes!!
Nodnarb95SE The markings for the bolts for the shift linkage should be visible inside the car after you remove the auto-tragic shifter out. That way you are not guessing where to drill :)
I took the fork bolt out and now it wont go back in. The fork threads look misaligned. Any ideas? The trans was been knocked around a bit with the bolt out could that have knocked it out of alignment? thanks
Does transmission have to be apart to remove shift fork ? Having a issue with my gsr trans, one of the pins on the release spring is bent. The throwout bearing does not sit firmly.
No. It's on the outside of the casing.
Hey man great vid.i have a b20v ef with b16 trans.i changed the clutch and at first wouldn't go into gear easily it was just a cable adjustment but within a 1000 miles or so it gradually started having an issue once the vehicle got warm not going into the lower gears so I adjusted the cable more.started having the issue more often so I kept adjusting the cable more and more and now the cable adjustment is bottomed out and I can't get into 1st and 2nd gear at all and barely into 3rd while vehicle is running.also ok while not running.its like the clutch isn't fully engaging.do you think its a stretched cable or something internal?thanks
I'd just try s new cable first to see if that fixes it. Also check to make sure your pedal assembly isn't broken and torn.
@@GarageBuiltHondas ok thanks man much appreciated
@@GarageBuiltHondas sorry to bother you again but do u think an ef clutch cable will work with the b16 trans or do I have to get something different?I have an ef parts car so I'll pull it off and match it up with the one I have
They work.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thanks man
Hey was thanks for all the videos very helpful wanted too ask how too replace the cable speed sensor have a 91 b18a1 cable
Remove the 10mm bolt holding the sense to the transmission, and pull it out.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thank my was broken at the entrance point to the transmission so it wasn't able to come out till i pulled the whole transmission apart thanks for the reply
👍
Hey, i cant seem to find this clutch fork, i found one used on ebay but if i can get a new one that would be great
I doubt they make them new any longer. Probably been discontinuing for a while.
Hey man! Completely love your vids!! Quick question regarding trans too, mine from 2nd and up gives me more rev than go unless I push it a certain amount if you know what I mean I don't really know how to word it. What could it possibly be? Clutch slip?
Definitely sounds like a slipping clutch. Do you know the history of it?
montanojesse27 also make sure your clutch pedal is adjusted correctly. Is your clutch setup hydraulic or cable? If its hydraulic, check for leaks. If its cable, see if there is an adjustment there also :)
Jon Widmer as far as I know I'm the second owner and the previous had taken good care of it as a daily and is completely stock
dreamer2355 will do! Much appreciated :D
You're welcome :)
I’ve seen your EF to CRX hydro transmission conversion is it worth it on a Da ? Or should I go and pray that I find a XSI b16 tranny ?
I think it'd worth it since hydraulic transmissions are more abundant
Hey man, cool video but quick question! My b20 b16 trans ef is not going in 2nd 4th or Reverse and next at the next light, it wont go in the top gear (1st, 3rd, 5th), and vice-versa, top gears working and bottom gears not working or bottom working and top not working, its very annoying!! Please Help
Take a look at your shifter bushings first to verify they are in good working order.
Did the clutch make a awkward sound while in neutral? i might have this same issue. when my car is in neutral the piece that goes into the casing where the throw out is, is wobbling sounds like the throw out is bad but it shouldn't be. any ideas? ( hydraulic clutch here not cable)
Your clutch or pressure plate might be going bad. Is the clutch old? My friends 97 Integra had that issue. The shifter release arm would wobble because a piece of the clutch material had separated from the clutch. I pulled the transmission and the clutch was in a couple pieces. I made a video of it last year too.
Clutch was put in, in march. by a shop. it engages all gears fine. nothing really outta the normal except for the noise it makes. cant be isb because the trans had all new bearings put in with the clutch.
Well the hydraulic transmission fork is attached to that arm, not like mine with the lever, bolt, and then fork. It's hard to believe that only after 7 months that something has failed so quickly, but it could also be an install error. I wasn't going to mention the input shaft bearing but since that's new also it should rule it out.
I'm hoping they followed the torque specs for the install of the clutch but most shops are pretty good about doing that. But it's obviously something inside there that is causing the noise/wobble. Unless you feel like paying someone to drop the trans and check it out, I would just keep driving it if it drives like normal. Just monitor it and see if it gets worse, then you may not have a choice but to get into there and check it out.
I had no choice and even I was being lazy about dropping my transmission, I couldn't get into any gear at all. Now that I dropped it though, I'm super excited to get it back together because I miss driving this car. Let me know how it goes, I'm curious to see what it is.
i wont know till i do my swap. it seems fine. other than my third feae syncro being gone its fine haha
Yeah that play was definitely doing something negative. This reminds me I have to do my clutch, I've been holding it off for a year now fml
I hear ya, I had to muster the energy to get to work on this, so glad I did!
Jon Widmer and you did a fine job too, you seem like an organized person with bits and pieces, less headache and a hassle free install
This is not a shift fork. This is a throw out bearing/ realease bearing fork. Very frustrating when your looking for help on transmision internals
I fixed the title. I'll change the thumbnail when I'm not working. ✌️
My clutch shift arm is stuck inside the clutch fork like how yours was. But my bolt did not break inside like yours. I unscrewed the bolt and the shift arm doesnt pull out. Do you know how I can get it out?
Pull it, use some muscle. Lubricate it. It should slide right out once the bolt is removed from the fork.
Quick question do this girl has a prelude I want to buy but it will not start unless it’s put in gear she says and she said her mechanic told her that the throw out bearing came off on the inside of the tranny it makes an awful grinding sound when you try to turn it on any ideas on what it could be. Do you think that it is the throw out bearing?
Could be. You'd have to remove the transmission to verify.
My Honda Accord 96 I can't get it into reverse and likes to jump out of first.. what u think my problem
Bad synchos or gears. It's manual I assume?
I'm having a shifting problem similar to that, only difference is with my cars engine off it goes into all gears no problem. But once car is at operating temps it will not go into any gears! Any ideas?
Flywheel step might be off. Could be a pressure plate issue also.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Found the issue. Had to adjust the clutch cable a little higher.Works perfect now.
👍
my 2000 integra wont go into 2nd sometimes i will say twice a month i have this problem. i go from 1st wont go into 2nd step in the clutch go into 1st and drop it to 2nd it goes in fine. you think i need a new clutch or do i have the same problem as you?
Sounds more like a clutch. The fork on the hydraulic transmission is different and is an extension of the entire arm that sticks out of the transmission.
Jon Widmer thanks for getting back at so fast. you've been alot of help to me. just waiting on some good weather here in chicago to put a new clutch in.
hagen the great anytime! if I'm not at work then I try to answer as quickly as possible!
Hey Jon I love ur vids they are very informative, I have a 95 Integra LS and its got a issue similar to yours. It just started out of the blue one day and only was getting worse and by the second day it would hardly go into any gear I had to put all my might to switch gears, like I would have to stop for 5 min to let it cool down and everything would work fine again for like 30 seconds and then does the same again. I'll be attempting to remove the transmission for my first time and see how things look. Do you have any idea what it can be? oh and also my clutch pedal feels a lot softer and I noticed the travel when depressed is about 50% shorter, and when you try driving the car starts shaking and wants to stall out. Thank You very much !
Ricky Brat Thanks Ricky! Without even knowing the mileage on your car, it sounds like you may have a clutch that needs replacing. Usually the clutch goes before the transmission and the fact that you let it cool down and it works again makes me feel like a new clutch kit and flywheel is what's in store for you. Has yours ever been changed? What's the mileage on your car?
Just did my clutch over the weekend and new throwout bearing started making woodpecker noise til I put the clutch pedal down once I release it it does it agine
Ouch
@@GarageBuiltHondas my guess its the throwout bearing
Possibly not installed correctly. Maybe the release spring isn't on the teeth all the way causing the chattering noise.
@@GarageBuiltHondas deff gonna look into it this weekend thanks alot man love the content and learned alot
@@ertatic3973 what was the issue?
same thing here, but i can not find CLUTCH RELEASE FORK or release arm because they are discontinued :[.
Joe Morales Dude, I know! Luckily my friend had an extra one.
Thanks for all these videos, it has really helped with my d16a6 1990 CRX. Your videos have given me the confidence to do a variety of large projects. Lucky you sir! Hey would you know if a b series in the same year uses the same clutch fork for a rex?
Joe Morales No, it is a completely different design. I looked into it when I found mine damaged.
I'm glad you like the videos and appreciate you taking the time to let me know buddy!!!
I have a b20 honda crv 5 speed and my clutch doesnt disengage is this the same problem?
Possibly, but the fork is different on a hydraulic transmission. There's a small pivot ball also that may have broken behind the fork.
@@GarageBuiltHondas i just changed my master cylinder and the slave and it is still not disengaging so thanks ill look into that
How does your car drive or respond when you have a bad clutch fork
I had a really hard time getting it into all gears.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Bingo!!! Doing A New Clutch While Im At It
posted a vid on the part you need.
I have the parts you need, no charge laying in my honda parts box for years pm me, what trans you running ls jdm.
It's a 92-93 LS cable trans. The shift arm and release fork are the parts I need. You have some extras?
Hey I need parts
Can you show step by step taking off a b series tranny for a clutch install?
david Vazquez I'll make one the next time I drop a b series transmission.
This just happened to me, huge pain in the ass.
It really is.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Hey is there a way to adjust the clutch pedal so this doesn't happen again? I'm running a stage 2 comp clutch.
You can manually tension the cable.
Dang I feel like that happened to mine
👍
what trans is this??
Short geared b16
I can’t get the throw out bearing hook thing off 😭
Use some picks
@@GarageBuiltHondas thanks I ended up just YANKINGG it 👍💯
What lip is that on the front bumper
eBay lip. About $85
Looks so ef'n good lol thanks
You got it man!
My civic won't go into gear anymore, I'm dreading doing this. I can shift perfectly fine when the car is off.
It was fine before and started acting up?
@@GarageBuiltHondas Yeah, daily drove it.
Maybe the clutch needs replacing also
@@GarageBuiltHondas Do you think it's a broken shifter fork? Would a clutch go out over night?
Update to this comment it was a shredded throwout bearing.
Could this cause a wobbly shifter
Yes, you may want to check the linkage joint or the linkage pin first. Also make sure the rubber bushing is still in good shape.
Ok, so I've done a complete clutch swap, whole kit, master and slave cylinder as well, the car WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR nor turn on in gear. What the hell have I done wrong. I'm on day 3 and losing my shit.
Was the flywheel brand new?
No. Looked great, cleaned it up well. In addition it is screeching like metal to metal while the car is running.
No idea then. The flywheel step should be fine.
Turned out to be a defective pressure plate... O'Reilly's auto gets the go f yourself with multiple cacti award. Literally had to do it twice and not to mention the several hours wasted trouble shooting and all the extra money and parts thinking it was this or that. Thanks for the responses! Thats a clutch fork not a shift fork
Actually a clutch release lever as I found on an OEM Honda parts website.
@@GarageBuiltHondas main point is it has to do with the clutch not shifter
Well, you were wrong too. Lmao
@@GarageBuiltHondas whatever you say bro
