Sounds to me like what happens with rwd with a welded diff. Maybe the lsd you have in that trans is binding a bit. If it's limiting the slip too much you'll get some shuddering. Does it seem like it's coming more from the outside wheel of the turn (drivers side for right turn). Does it do it if you're making a sharp turn with it in second gear?
It'll just shutter when I first drive the car after it's been sitting. I passed 160 miles 2 days ago and drained the fluid and added Pennzoil Synchomesh. After I did that the shutter was almost non-existent. I drove it for another 50 miles and it felt great. I'm going to go for a few more drives within the next few days and see how it feels. I haven't had any driveability issues after 220 miles so I'm hoping it's just fine.
He had it sitting in his shed for about 4-5 years. That trans was so dirty in the beginning. I didn't show it but I power washed it for like 30 minutes. Who knows what kind of dirt and crap had gotten into it. Once I break it in, I'm going to punch it on a couple back roads and around some corners where I have some space. I want to put it through it's paces before I take it to the track next weekend. I'll report back and let you know what's up with it, thanks for the input!!
Hey man great video bro 💪🏼💪🏼 i also have a s1 transmission in my EF but dont know if its the ls or b16 i blew the clutch out in it so ima be taking it out soon but as far as your car feeling like that when turning its the aftermarket LSD all transmission with modified or after market lsd you will feel it while accelerating an turning as far as oem wont feel a thing
LSD right in time for track day! Would love to see some track footage of your first hairpin turn or maybe some sort of live reaction vid to the LSD.. good luck out there, Jon 🤙
Garage Built Hondas It has to be the automatic Transmission vss. It's identical to the da Integra b series vss so your miles per hour should be accurate. The vss from the manual ef transmission is plastic and has less teeth so it reads 5mph more. I could send you a picture that compares the stock da vss and the auto ef vss.
You’ll you not need to use a lsd fluid modifier? Depending on the diff make. Moose juice was the name used in GM limited slips. Just a thought. Great information. Thanks.
Great info as always Jon! Sorry Officer I was doing Science! Even if gears are the same you will love the cornering benefits from the LSD! Have you thought of changing out the final drive gears. M factory 4.7 is about 500 bucks but will kick ass on a power circuit course!
I haven't looked into it but imagine it would be a nice difference from the 4.4. maybe in time I can get that upgrade. I do want to go hydro eventually as time/money allow so hopefully soon I'll get there! I wonder if an officer would be a dick if I said that, or if he saw the GoPro on the steering column. Lol
I have hear bad things and good thing about these clutches. I was so mixed on going with one I couldn’t make a decision. I have to say tho I’m a big fan of competition clutches now tho.
i have the b16a sir 2 with the lsd transmission, ive noticed it was a bit harder to steer than having the stock d series. as far as handling goes, it feels more like its on rails. no weird shutter or noises. feels like the road is steering the car haha.
Thanks for the input needles, I swapped fluids and added another 200 miles and it feels great now. I'll finally get to test it out in the next couple days!
as you explained the shutter, since you put a new clutch and pressure plate in. it could have been just braking in. especially since you probably had the old flywheel in it. sticky surface and slippery new surface binding together causing a slight shutter. (I hope this makes sense)
True, but the flywheel was brand new too. I believe it was the lack of the friction modifiers in the regular oil. In the Synchomesh I used it felt excellent and had no major issues at the track today!
I just did a clutch on a Celica, and it shuttered a bit but got better as it broke in. My Prelude never shuttered and I have changed the clutch a couple times. Thinking about Competition next time.
Thanks Jose, it's all just been experience, getting outside working on cars (88-00 Hondas) and having fun. If you really enjoy working on them, it'll never feel like actual work. To this day I still enjoy them so much!
That literally happens to me all the time even when starting off straight it charters , just yesterday I did a pull and went for 2nd and blew the diff... after it driving like that for 2 years.
Well looks like I got a 88-91 trans mine hasn’t got the 2 bolts underneath the tag is gone from it guy I bought it from said it was from a gsr jdm but it’s been out for a long time so me myself not sure
Awesome! Let me see about this one first. I might try to weld it then grind down the excess, smooth it out and then drill any that is in the linkage hole. Or I might not. Lol
Great video I recently saw this when trying to identify my B-series transmission. It has no badge I tested the gear ratio and looked at the casing as you described. It has a 5.5 like the 92-93 but the case has no detent like the 88-91. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance
Just do the testing as I did. That'll give you the gear ratios. Either long or short geared, might not be able to narrow it down 100% but you'll then know which it is.
Quick question my man, I’m planning on doing a b20b with a b16 non lsd transmission on my 88 sedan and I wanted to ask you what axels can I use for the swap. I appreciate your time to read my comment thanks my man.
Hey Jon I have a question regarding the pressure plate. So My previous trans was a S1 b16 The trans I’m going to use now is a YS1 Ls Looking at the video I see that you can’t use the S1 clutch disc on the YS1 my question is can I still use the same pressure plate ?
I've read all the B series pressure plates are the same and can be swapped. It's the disc that's different from the small spline 90-91 compared to the large spline 92-up. I've never actually swapped one around myself because I always buy new clutches, I'm imagining this to work 100% though.
I just got hired at my local mill. Really want to go B series on my 88 hatch SI. 650 for high comp b20 just not sure how I'm gonna go about rest of swap. LoL..
I got a question I am going b serious on my 91 si hatchback and I came across a good b18b1 out off a 95 integra obd1 set up however I want to still be able to run obd0 my question is can I run a pr4 A02 ecu And ob0 distributor I am running all stock motor for this b18b1. Please advise on what I should use to run obd0 thank you.
My b series transmission is a A1-1045517 sticker and I cannot find a starter to save my life I’ve already given up my starter that came with it.. hope you see this I need some help all the forums are not helping. Thanks!
I bought an Action Clutch 99-00 Civic Si Stage 1 OEM style clutch kit for my 90-93 cable trans (not sure of the year as of now). I didn't check if the clutch would fit on the output shaft. But... the trans bolted up fine. Haven't drove on that setup yet but I would assume the trans wouldn't have even bolted in if the clutch wasn't right so if anyone wants to use an Action Clutch 99-00 Civic Si Stage 1 clutch kit you can. If I'm wrong later when I run the setup I will update the post then
Your transmission is a 92-93 hopefully. If it was a 90-91 the clutch would've been loose around the input shaft. It still fits, but it'll probably strip either the input shaft or clutch teeth before long.
I have a stock crossmember on my ef, Do I have to remove it to get the transmission out? Can I just remove the arm on one side? or should I take the whole thing out?
Just saw your other video with the broken clutch fork and within a few seconds my question was answered! Thanks to you I'm where I'm at. I wouldn't have ever done a dpfi to mpfi before or go through the trouble of going b series in my ef. But your videos are so detailed and easy to follow. my car is on insta @fidelsanti20. thanks again!
Hey quick question, my 91 civic si, i have a b20 with b16 cable trans, and my speedometer is not working, ive tried 2 different ones, like when im at high speed like 90mph itll go up to like 15mph, any help would be great!!
Check the speedo cable behind the cluster..make sure it's intact. Also the actual cable might be bad . I usually would keep a few spares as my local junkyard only charges 2$.
Anyone tell me where the CV axle actually bottoms out when you install it. Does the inner CV stub contact the differential splined receiver, the one with the four segments with the notches. I am having a big problem getting the left axle in all the way. I took the clip off to insert it as much as possible but it needs to go in about 3/16
And the one that was on the civic is very short compared to mines i run at 65 mph on 3,200 rpms ... there is a 90 91 4.26 cable tranny ? I know for sure i have the longest tranny in the world lol
Comment as much as you want anytime and all the time man! I know dude, I'm a freaking dork!! Haha. If I sell one I'll let you know, and if you don't mind waiting til next year, I want to go hydro on my track car so I might sell a couple that I have!
Garage Built Hondas hahaha shit happens bro!! anyways thanks too you man I really apreciate all your info . And happy to see that s1lsd is working good , man youare blessed. For the Ys1 ill be here waiting count on it 👍 good luuck on track.
Garage Built Hondas transmission came with the ef I bought and the guy said it was a b16. I wouldn’t know how to tell if it’s a b series transmission sorry still new to Hondas.
Garage Built Hondas the casing looks like the 90-91 without the bolts underneath. I’m about to mark the input shaft and different and start counting the spins and let you know what I get.

And barely in 2nd gear. Within a couple miles of driving it, I don't notice anything in 2nd gear.
Sounds like it was just sticky from sitting. that little bit of remaining fluid you showed draining was pretty horrible haha
Garage Built Hondas That Syncromesh is magic lol. It got rid of my third gear grind.
Great info here, those rubber boots are genius !
Thanks, and aren't they!! What an excellent idea. Don't have to worry about all the sand/dust at the track anymore!
I figured, it feels completely different with the Synchomesh in it!
Happy father's day Jon. Thanks for the content always look back at your vidoes when I'm stuck.
Thanks, same to you!! Glad to have you always have been around! The support means a lot!
LSD right in time for track day! Would love to see some track footage of your first hairpin turn or maybe some sort of live reaction vid to the LSD.. good luck out there, Jon 🤙
I can't wait to see if I can feel the difference, I'll definitely give an update/reaction video if all goes well!
You can use the ef automatic transmission vss on the cable b series Trans. It's a plug in play and has the same teeth count as the stock ls vss.
Nice, what about the manual one? I can't remember if I've ever swapped one in but I believe it fits as well.
Garage Built Hondas

I loved my Competition Clutch I just removed and saving it just in case. We'll see how this one does!
I was focusing on that fuel gauge being so close to E more than anything lol.
Lmao, that's EF life right there!
i have the b16a sir 2 with the lsd transmission, ive noticed it was a bit harder to steer than having the stock d series. as far as handling goes, it feels more like its on rails. no weird shutter or noises. feels like the road is steering the car haha.

You know it's a real honda when the fuel gauge is always near, or preferably at, the empty mark :D
Especially an EF!
mine cant go that low. it starts to sputter at half way. wonder if maybe the pump aint low enough
That or the fuel pump filter is positioned incorrectly.
Thank you. You just answered a question I had in mind for a while.
Which question, I'm curious now!?
Garage Built Hondas about my cable trans. Has YS1 label and the bolts for the detent balls. Was told it was B17, but you confirmed it. 🤘👊
Awesome!
That's how fwd lsd cars feel. I remember years ago I welded my diff in a z24 for drag racing. And when I was on the road it could get hairy.
Ok cool, thanks for the input! I was a little skeptical at first!
just subed mate, easy to listen to and very informative.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the older and future content!
I just did a clutch on a Celica, and it shuttered a bit but got better as it broke in. My Prelude never shuttered and I have changed the clutch a couple times. Thinking about Competition next time.

😎😎😎hell yea trans is key to power as well
Hoping it'll feel different this coming weekend!!
I used to have YS1 for my B16A swap in my 89 CRX Si.
Perfect setup!
That literally happens to me all the time even when starting off straight it charters , just yesterday I did a pull and went for 2nd and blew the diff... after it driving like that for 2 years.

Any 90-93 Integra axles as long as your using the intermediate shaft from that car too.
Hey Jon
I have a question regarding the pressure plate.
So My previous trans was a S1 b16
The trans I’m going to use now is a YS1 Ls
Looking at the video I see that you can’t use the S1 clutch disc on the YS1 my question is can I still use the same pressure plate ?
I've read all the B series pressure plates are the same and can be swapped. It's the disc that's different from the small spline 90-91 compared to the large spline 92-up. I've never actually swapped one around myself because I always buy new clutches, I'm imagining this to work 100% though.
Very helpful! Good video!!
Thanks!!
Pronounced perfectly 👍
😀
Hey john, You ever figure out what LSD was in that transmission?
I haven't. Still in the broken car too.
Shuttering may be coming from the new clutch, depending on brand and model clutch. Just an idea
True. It's gone away a little. Not sure if you read the other comments but I changed the fluid and it feels a lot better.
I just got hired at my local mill. Really want to go B series on my 88 hatch SI. 650 for high comp b20 just not sure how I'm gonna go about rest of swap. LoL..

And ob0 distributor I am running all stock motor for this b18b1. Please advise on what I should use to run obd0 thank you.
Yes, the obd0 parts will work on your car. It's a little easier since you don't need to convert to obd1.
My b series transmission is a A1-1045517 sticker and I cannot find a starter to save my life I’ve already given up my starter that came with it.. hope you see this I need some help all the forums are not helping. Thanks!
Did you Google "B series A1 transmission" and see what comes up? Once you know what it's from, just buy a starter for that car.
Awesome
Thanks Eugene!

Always feel bad driving my d16 on the highway at 80mph just revvvvvved out
It's the worst.
Do you happen to know the stamped code on the S1 differential?
I do not, sorry
What would you say is a fair price for the non lsd b16 cable transmission?
300-400

Jon I want to purchase a 90 crx si but was wondering if a b20b swap would be better to build than the d series that come in the crx
It's definitely stronger and tons of more torque, but the stock crx SI engine is no slouch. I love the way the A6 engine feels.
I need a b16 hydraulic transmission do you have any
Not currently
Is there a difference between the 92 starter and 1990 starter
No, all B series should work even automatic
hi bro if s80 transmission short gear how many count drive shaft
Does it have the Vin plate on it still?

I have a 1989 prelude manual wanting to do b20b swap what transmission would be best
Any will be fun honestly.
@@GarageBuiltHondas will a 1997 s80 hydro trans or a 1994 ys1 cabled trans work
my prelude is cable if I was to use the hydro trans
I'm not familiar with swaps in those cars. If they make mount kits I'm sure either will work.
Do you know how many turns for a b16a2 transmission HYDRO??
I don't. I take it the vin plate is missing from the transmission?

I have a transmissions that has a y2 sticker on it. All I found on google is that it’s from a crx/civic ukdm but I can’t find a trim model?
B series, right?
Garage Built Hondas transmission came with the ef I bought and the guy said it was a b16. I wouldn’t know how to tell if it’s a b series transmission sorry still new to Hondas.

Ok
Are the linkage cables the same
Yes
Links to the stuff you use??
What "stuff"?
how's it doing so far
Excellent!
im just asking about b18a1 si tranny its good for b20b engine
It fits and works fine.

hi sir b18a1 tranny s1 is it short gear for b20b
You'll need to check and see if it's a short geared transmission. The decals don't mean anything.
