this guy is seriously the best. tutorial vids are usually harder to make than most youtube videos because they have to be thorough and detailed while also not being concise by showing the most important parts and not simply showing a 6 hour long video. chris fix has NEVER failed to deliver. and he always goes the extra mile to lay out the parts and explain what could go wrong and what could be different with different cars.
I had fun doing this a few years ago for my 94 Mazda B2300. Clutch went out, and I had barely any money so I did the whole job with a few harbor freight sockets, extensions, torque wrench, and jack stands. Everything else was by hand, I had to lay the transmission on my chest and knees to get it off and on. Even used the truck's jack to lift the truck because I didn't have a proper jack at the time. Really taught me how much can be done with simple hand tools, and I haven't been scared about any other repair job since then.
Your enthusiasm while fixing cars makes your videos so much more fun to watch! You also inspire a lot of confidence. Although when it comes to me, the repair usually takes 5x longer and there’s a lot less enthusiasm and a lot more swearing involved 😂
I completely agree! I had a suburban for years and replaced the tyranny twice! It was also 4wd, so a lot of words came out that my kids shouldn't hear, lol!
Darren corbit, I totally agree. It's not uncommon for people to be capable to remove a transmission in 30 minutes. Putting it back in is a different story though.
@@jdogmcnasty1980 the editing, yes. But still fun to watch him squeeze the whole process into less than 30 minutes (even when done by the power of editing)

Hey ChrisFix I just wanted to say thank you, sincerely. My 00' Mustang sat for almost 2 months in my friends driveway (My first car and I really have affection for it haha) after we saw your video on how to replace a transmission we decided we would give it a try. None of us (three people counting) has ever done such thing, the most we have done is change a motor oil, but thanks to this video and the sequel of "How to replace a clutch" we were able to fix my car this sunday January 20th, after 10 hours of hardwork, blood and sweat we replaced the clutch, pilot bearing, throw out bearing and fork. So for any of you wanting to attempt to fix anything on your car, ChrisFix's videos are the way to go they are so detailed that is impossible not to do what it says. Thanks for all the effort you put on your videos ChrisFix it was really helpfull! Ps: We would've finished in less than ten hours if it wasn't that cold that day 22° haha.
ChrisFix no thank you and this is not just from me but from everyone who has seen your videos to help us fix our vehicles. Happy New Years Chris and to your Family and well let’s see what new projects will come this 2019.🎆🎊🎈
I will likely never be able to do such complex repairs, but your videos have given me a more realistic understanding of how the components of my car,not only fit together, but how they work. At the very least, I am much more knowledgeable when talking to my mechanic. It's much harder to be taken advantage of if you have a better idea of how things work. Thank you, you are a great teacher!
@user-od1bs4yi6m the person that wrote that comment is probably similar to my mom who is not very mechanically inclined and they may also just not have adequate spacial reasoning to figure out where things go
@@Neo-l2g --Your comment kinda seems like a weak insult about both me and your mom. I am likely old enough to be your mom, but I think you'd be surprised that I have literally spent decades teaching others to manipulate objects in three-dimensional space. I would likely never complete such complex car repairs, not because I don't understand the mechanics, because it would require a complete retooling of my workshop and time that I am not interested in using for that purpose.
@missbluepants888 well then if you dont want it to seem as though you are unable to do the repair due to lack of understanding, i suggest removing "such COMPLEX repairs" and replacing it with "repairs that require such TOOLS." also it seems pretty clear that my comment, while maybe crass, does not spew any legitimate insult. this is also evident by the reference to my mother, whom you can statistically assume i have a good view of as most people do (of their own mothers). if i did wish to insult while including my mother, i would say someone along the lines of: "like my mother, you are incredibly sensitive and appear to look for excuses to defend yourself, although i wouldnt imagine my mother doing that to a stranger online." good day

Hey, start small. I never changed the oil myself before this summer and now I’ve done spark plugs, transmission fluid/filter, complete brake jobs, and others. I’ve already saved thousands of dollars because Christfix showed me how simple it was to do some car repairs. He’s good for seeing how to generally do something, and then refer to Haynes and RUclips videos on your own car.
@@budweiserjackdaniels6664 That's a hard question. I knew that my dad didn't take care of my car except he did faithfully change the oil. It had 140,000 miles, so I knew that it was due for multiple routine things. Check engine lights are also helpful because the car knows something is wrong and it is telling you. I bought a code reader for $70 and it was the best investment I've made. You can fix the vast majority of check engine lights for less than $100 and it would've cost that much for a mechanic to tell you what the problem is and not fix it.

Just came across this video and fit to say, you do a "stellar" job outlining, explaining & performing the steps required to do this specific task, 5 stars and a big 👍 's up! I have yet to look at other videos but my son and I are removing the engine from his 2011 Mazdaspeed gen2 as we believe his #3 ring has failed, compression tested 155, the rest were 180. We've completely removed the front of the car and unattached/ disassembled everything we even think might be in the way of a clean lift and removal but have paused at removing the trans axles & clutch. We believe the clutch can be removed from the 5 bolts on the top where the manual clutch shifter mechanism enters the transmission. Then the 2 nuts on each end of the axles for removal. I've noted these steps to frame up where we're at with this task in hopes that you or one of your subscribers could comment, let us know if we're on track, what to keep an eye on or tell us, hold up do this instead... finding videos and good quality ones hasn't been productive. Thanks for your input in advance and again awesome video looking forward to others! Oh forgot to mention we've not yet drained the trans fluid but it's on the list. (Chris - New Brunswick, Canada)

Why not?
@@MovingFoward-e9h --There are a myriad of reasons.

@missbluepants888 well then if you dont want it to seem as though you are unable to do the repair due to lack of understanding, i suggest removing "such COMPLEX repairs" and replacing it with "repairs that require such TOOLS." also it seems pretty clear that my comment, while maybe crass, does not spew any legitimate insult. this is also evident by the reference to my mother, whom you can statistically assume i have a good view of as most people do (of their own mothers). if i did wish to insult while including my mother, i would say someone along the lines of: "like my mother, you are incredibly sensitive and appear to look for excuses to defend yourself, although i wouldnt imagine my mother doing that to a stranger online."

He’s good for seeing how to generally do something, and then refer to Haynes and RUclips videos on your own car.
@@XxJaguar22 how do you know when you have a problem with your vehicle and know when or how to change it?
@@budweiserjackdaniels6664 That's a hard question. I knew that my dad didn't take care of my car except he did faithfully change the oil. It had 140,000 miles, so I knew that it was due for multiple routine things. Check engine lights are also helpful because the car knows something is wrong and it is telling you. I bought a code reader for $70 and it was the best investment I've made. You can fix the vast majority of check engine lights for less than $100 and it would've cost that much for a mechanic to tell you what the problem is and not fix it.

@@progressorx7183 dude I can’t change my clutch
Perfect easy application to demonstrate this on.
Tons of room and simple process.
No 4wd, no concentric slave, not transverse, not automatic, no special tools, no problem.Didn't even have to remove the front clip or sub-frame of the car to pull the engine/trans out or down.Seems like most of the cars I work on you have to buy/make a specialty tool, program the new part, or remove half the car these days.
Hey i watch you videos Brian and thanks you have really helped me alot and i have started a test channel myself. You already have the repair channel covered but great work
It really was an awesome car to demo with. I'll be making a video on WRX transmission replacement this year and there are at least a few extra steps. Slave cylinder, intercooler, front axles, driveshaft carrier and rear guard, plus the pull type clutch! Still, this video sets a high benchmark for tutorials. Sure beats some 5 minute explanations by other big channels. Love your work, Brian!
briansmobile1 I think he uses his head a lot before buying any special tools. It’s not that this job doesn’t require or recommend the use of special tools or extra removal.
Thanks a lot man! Yea this was a great basic example to give the people an idea of what’s involved.
How did I find ChrisFix 3 days ago? I am addicted. This man is a national treasure and should be protected at all costs.
Nice work! Detailed, quick, and clear!
I needed this, my toyota rav4 transmission is completely blown like my self esteem during the holidays
You should try and show people how to convert their mustang from Auto to manual .. that'd be awesome
That would be cool!
It's really easy. Sell the auto and buy a manual. Actually converting it is probably too much a hassle
@@WCGwkf Are they delivered with a manual gearbox?
Going from manual to automatic is easy. Going from automatic to manual not so much.
There is a guy on here (Stacey Davids or something) that has a video on that. Or at least an auto-manual (can't remember the car) I think it's an older 1990 car or something. Looks like a pain and too much work. And waaaaaay to expensive. But it's a fun video and makes you say "yeah I could probably do that." Hahaha
