You know 'Rtas had faced the Flood before when he says "that stench..." in Halo 2.
"I've smelled it before..."
Holy shit its so much better after watching this video
@@Xerrounautix That's what he said.
@@East_Coast_Toasty_Boy Yes.
@@Xerrounautix meaning: that's what he said... in the bedroom
I always wondered about that elite. It could not wort properly.
Wor wor wor
The book "shadown of intent" is a story in which he is the main character, and is explain that yes he has problems talking, and the sounds with "P" are pretty hard for him to pronounce
That’s just all elites
Wonder where he is now.
Would've been neat to see him in infinite
@@martinnavarrete5279 exlain roblems retty ronounce
“Shipmaster we are outnumbered 3-1, So it is an even fight.” This line goes way to hard
"So we still have the advantage" would be a flex
@@sheepersouls9898I mean they still won, that’s the hardest flex of all. Sometimes silent confidence > arrogance.
"On the blood of our father's, on the blood of our sons"
“Burn their mongrel hides”
Bruh they made the elites the most gangster shit, feels bad when the brutes give ‘em the second class citizen treatment in the time after halo ce
The Arbiter, R’tas…Just charging into flood infections and walking away clean on the other side time and time again.
It really stands to reason why an unaltered and experienced Sangheili was a close match for an average Spartan-II, with those less experienced being more like a Spartan-III.
Nimble, fierce, tactical, intelligent, creative, skeptical, strong, loyal, and self-sacrificial. All what makes a good warrior, Spartan OR Elite.
Absolute badasses. All of them
@@Woodyisasexybeast ALL of them.
@@Auto987 ALL OF them
They are called Elites for a reason
Arbiter slept Miranda Keyes and Johnson in a 1v2 where both sides were spinning the block with guns and throwing hands. Miranda wasn't a slouch but still beating Johnson you can't have tiny heart syndrome bc Johnson has the biggest heart of all
"A single flood-spore could destroy a species!"
Yet here is the sangheli, lost a jaw to the flood and was not infected. That's pretty f'in impressive.
“Were it not for the Arbiter’s counsel, I would have glassed your entire PLANET.”
Don't forget to mention that the same swordsman he fought that turned flood, was hailed as the greatest sword wielder among the covenant. Just further proving how badass R'tas is.
Yes! I wanted to include that but I just didn’t have time. Shorts can only be a minute, max.
Yeah he messed up. The fight is legendary
That really doesn’t matter though as long as their isn’t a proto gravemind since in their early stages they aren’t as coordinated or smart enough to use weapons or retain memory .
I absolutely love the artwork of the flood in that comic very dead spacey
This is actually from an animated cutscene hidden in the Anniversary version of the game. It’s amazing though and it’s definitely worth watching the full thing. Look up Halo CE terminal 9. It’s about 4 minutes long and it’s full of great artwork like this.
@@Woodyisasexybeast it's originally the short story "The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor" from The Halo Graphic Novel. Almost completely forgot about that book, so thanks for helping me dig up those memories haha
Oh shit, I have a video on the Keyes terminal. I thought this was the video this comment was on, my bad. Yes, it’s from the graphic novel. It’s excellent
“SHOOT THE LIMBS!”
So it's fair to say he's the Elite equivalent to Sgt. Johnson, isn't it?
Pretty much
This one doesn't die at the end... Right?
No, Rtas is alive and well
@@Woodyisasexybeast yay!
@@protovision7040 and last i heard was on a crusade to wipe brutes from their own census across the galaxy glassing each one as he goes.
This chad looks an entire coventant fleet that outnumbers him entirly. and like a true sanghili says "so its an even fight"
Rtas? More like badass
Rtas was willing to throw himself at any enemy the arbiter faced no matter what happened to him or his Boyz. He didn't have little heart syndrome.
@@secondarytrollaccountE' AINT NO ORK. BUT! IZ BE WILLN TO INDUCT 'IM AS ONE OF DA BOYZ!
“If it weren’t for the arbiters council I woulda glassed your whole planet!”
I always thought he said that because he dosen’t care for humans, now I see he said it because he realizes how much bigger of a threat they face
"shipmaster! your mandibles have gone from 4 to 2!" "then it is an even bite"
Rtas 'Vadum was the Sangheili equivalent of Sergent Johnson. That kind of badass soldier that lives over countless enemies and rarely ends up seeing peace.
I bought that comic last month. Pretty epic and gruesome artwork
It’s that part of Halo I wish we could see more of. Halo but with the gore quality of Gears Of War 2 would be interesting.
@@BthereorBsquared never play the games but with that kind of gore, players could be able to see what damages can an Elite, a Brute or even a Grunt do to a marine. I can imagine that a Sangheili, masters of the sword would slice off a marine's arms and slice then the body in half like a freaking samurai. Brute would've pull a marine's head out complete with the spinal cord off the body with its bare hands.
The Halo Graphic Novel. I remember my older brother getting this back in 2006, it was one of the coolest things for a 10 year old kid, I still remember the scent of the book, odd as that sounds.
I know exactly what you mean. Graphic novels/certain comics have a very specific smell
Fresh books smell gud
You meant to say that line like Rtas in Halo 2. "That stench...."
On the blood of our fathers… on the blood of our sons
even to our dying breath
"But these..are my Elites. Their lives matter to me yours does not"
Read this in a library when I was in middle school haha
Oh man, it must’ve gave you nightmares lol
@@Woodyisasexybeast no but the flood that johnson escapes from might have. played ce when i was 4. ghosts were the only thing that scared me the flood just made me mad because they would kill me alot.
@@supersaltlee7657I’m guessing the library
@@Kdot..F actually cooped library with my Mom, it was actually two betrayals when you get to that room with the glass structure in the middle. Low ammo and low health and a bad checkpoint
@@supersaltlee7657 Ah alright I straight up skipped the library when I played through it but I may play through Ce again
Not just a master swordsman, he defeated one of the most prodigious Sangheili in Halo lore that was believed to be the greatest CQC master in Sangheili history. He was even thankful that his former friend had succumbed to The Flood because otherwise he would've surely died against that legend.
R’tas: *smells the air*
Arbiter: What is it?
R’tas: That stench, I’ve smelled it before…
He also attempted to defend the unshielded unngoy (grunts) in his unit during that mission.
So they should make some of these side stories into their own game. Build the engine and create assets then build short little stories based on these bits of lore. Something to give the characters depth that people can learn through play.
Too logical of a suggestion
They’re already planning to make a side story based off of the first ever spartan to be infected by the flood and it displays how he got infected and how the failsafe was bypassed by the flood, the story releases this Friday I believe, it’s just a cool little Halloween type thing
And yes this story does give the flood armor in halo Infinite a bit of depth, such as the corrupter armor set which is said to be one of the most dangerous things in the halo universe
@Chipzthetoaster it’s already out. It came out yesterday.

@@Woodyisasexybeast WAIT ACTUALLY!? Thanks! ^.^
I wish we'd get more of this stuff mentioned or hinted at in the main games
It was hinted at. When the entering the heretic mining platform, Rtas states that he has encountered the stench of the flood
One of the biggest badasses. I was gonna say “the most badass halo character” but he has to contend with Johnson, arbiter and the chief. Can’t pick
I have this comic. This story takes up most of the book. It's a great story and I love the tie in to CE. The other story's are Johnson escaping 343 GS level, Covenant landing at new Mombasa,a different Spartan field training Cheif Mk6 suit from H2,and a bunch of really cool art work. It's called Halo Graphic Novel and if you are a halo fan you should find a copy, they aren't too expensive
I have a copy, it’s great. It might just be the best Halo comic, period. I love the Johnson and Rtas stories.
Bro Half Jaw will forever be missed
He’s still around somewhere
@@Woodyisasexybeast yeah but it’s 343 so who knows
@@Woodyisasexybeast they made every single elite as fat as Jabba the Hutt, instead of the nimble sons of bitches from halo ce and 2
@@MerudonWoW Uh.. have you seen the Halo infinite elites? They returned to that style.
@@epic7783 no I haven’t cuz I’ve given up on 343
He also killed the prophet on board.
The prophet was being a coward and so Rtas literally picked him up over his head and said he was unworthy of the great journey and smashed him on the ground, killing him.
“ If you have come to hear me beg, you will be disappointed.”
Other Halo Lore fact that wasn’t mentioned here but I find ironic. The original Swords Of Sanghelios were formed to rise against an Arbiter. Now they’re led by one.
Why would they do that? Arbitters business is a suicide mission where he doesn'tt return from. Theirs is something else, not?.
“Arbiter” didn’t use to be a bad thing. The prophets twisted the title and turned into something negative when an arbiter attempted to rebel against them. After that, it was repurposed into a mark of shame.
@@SENPAI.Popaii originally Arbiter’s were the leaders of the Sangheli race, the last normal Arbiter eventually became disillusioned with The Covenant, leading to his assassination and from then on Arbiter was a role of shame, rather than honor.
@@thefallenC073 thanks for informing me
That flood theme activates my fight or flight every time
Rtas is a very underrated character. I wish more people would shine their light on him but oh well. For the few that do, we know how bad ass he is
The way the flood look in this comic is even more terrifying than they are in the games, they look like something out of john carpenter movie "The thing".
"That stench.. I smelled it before"
We need more Halo stories like this, this character alone would make for a great campaign DLC
I LOVE THIS COMIC DAMN he clearly was sad about his friends death and hated flood id say
What if I told you Rtas had that dawg in him
Any being that battles and survives flood are legend!!!….
I knew he looked funky 🤣 I didn’t even try to find what was different I thought that his bottom jaw just splits into half
Ngl having a halo swords of senghelios spin off would be cool
I love the Halo Graphic Novel. I put this together when I read it at 15. Pretty sick. But my favorite comic in there was when Johnson escaped the Containment Facility on Installation 04. That one went hard.
I swear to fuck every Sangheili character in this series is some badass hot as fuck warrior stud.
Their deep voices and sophisticated way of speaking isn't _helping_ either my guys, GOD DAMN.
Ayo😳
He isn’t just an elite. He is *THAT ELITE!!*
Yeah bruh him and arbiter are them dudes. Arbiter slept Miranda Keyes and Sgt Johnson in a 1v2 where both sides were spinning the block with guns and throwing hands. You can't have little heart syndrome to knock out Johnson.
He is also blind in his left eye from this too
One of my favorite stories from the graphic-novel. I remember buying it all those years ago. Great art and action.
You can hear it in his tone whenever he speaks about the flood that he has a personal vendetta against them.
I knew this guy was a bad ass, but I never knew of his story. Makes me respect him even more.
He could have a successful show about himself. Ever since i played halo 2 in 2005 he's one of the most interesting characters.
"The parasite is not to be trifled with. I hope you know what you're doing."
Love his character so much. One of my favorite characters in the series next to Arbiter himself.
The flood look very different here
Lol i had this comic growing up.
It was a collection of short storys from various artist depicting different storys from halo 2 leading into halo 3. Theres a funny short strip at the end of the book showing chief trying to go grocerie shopping in his armor with a warthog
"That stench. I've smelled it before"
That stench..I've smelt it before
Smelled
I'm nerding out trying to imagine his speech in the dropship and the conversation with Arbiter but with half his face flapping around rocking a huge speech impediment😂😂😂
The art in that comic is brilliant.
"I kid you not, Arbiter! He turned himself into a pickle! They call him... Pickle Rick!! It's the funniest thing I've ever seen!!"
Rtas Vadum is voiced by Robert Davi, great actor, he played Acastus Kolya in Stargate Atlantis which I am currently watching right now
Real fans knew this right after Halo2
No gate keeping
I found out that the side of him that is missing the 2 mandibles, that eye on that side is actually blind....
Now it makes sense in Halo 2 when he said,
"That stench...I've smelled it before."
"you, are the Arbiter, the will of the Prophets, but *these* are *my* elites, their lives matter to me, yours does not."
“One single flood spore can destroy a species”
If an experience fighter that had survived first contact with the flood then you must take him seriously.
I freaking loved his character
"Hey bro Thanks for glassing Africa, it's a shame it had to happen but itll stop the flood for sure!"
"..the flood?"
The music instantly gave me PTSD
This man was the John snow of halo
Shipmaster a Legend.
I never realized i was in the vicinity of another legend
This elites voice is really badass
That stench... I've smelled it before
Rtas I don’t understand how he could still be agile with his ship sized balls
That stench. I've smelled it before...
Rtas, or "The Shipmaster" has the best lines of any character in halo in my opinion. "That stench, ive smelled it before"
"They outnumber us 3 to 1.
Then it is an even fight" 😎
the artstyle on that is absolutely insane. Reminds me of the thing comics. Colors really pop on everything
Fun fact, the arbiters real name was thel vadum, meaning he and rtas are from house vadum, making them family
No no, Arby’s name is Thel ‘Vadam, not Thel ‘Vadum.
Vadam, not Vadum
I guess you could say he really is... a splijaw
That comic was so kickass
My favorite halo comic!
DEY TOOK HIS JAW!
I remember reading that comic in the past it was a great read
Always one of my favorite elites
"Our shipmaster will sacrifice ALL to stop the flood!"
Rtas definitely did not have little heart syndrome like beta lord hood.
Halo Lore is unrivaled.
That’s probably why his giving name in halo lore is halfjaw
Shipmaster is my favorite supporting character
That graphic novel
Is worth the buy & that story in it was great .that ship has a wild life section & when I try to go through it , infected monster are trying to kill them …
I used to own a copy of that comic. The Flood artwork was pretty damn creepy looking. It reminds me of the John Carpenter's The Thing. If any Halo fan hasn't read this comic, I urge you to read it as soon as possible. Such an amazing story.
It’s very similar to The Thing. The flood as a whole is
@@Woodyisasexybeast I agree. I wonder if Bungie drew inspiration from The Thing while creating the Flood during development of H:CE. The Thing is by far the most horrifying reality if it ever existed. Isolate and Assimilate. No horror movie to date can compare to the horror that is The Thing imo. Truly a masterpiece by John Carpenter.
Without a doubt they used it for inspiration.
The Thing is a top ten movie for movie.
Rtass, arby and his one other buddy are the only elites I would consider honorary Spartans.
That comic in the graphic novel was hella brutal
The whole graphic novel is, really. The Johnson one is pretty bloody too
Dude really has guts of steel. He doesn't fear anything.
Kinda wild when you remember that in the present of halo both Australia and Africa are just *gone.* They're just glassed wastelands.
Shipmaster honey voice
i think he had an intimate relationship with the arbiter too
That flood music still gives me chills.
I would have glasses the entire planet had it not been for the counsel of the Arbiter
I love playing through the arbiter levels and slowly gaining his respect as you go
SHIP MASTER DONT FORGET IT !!!
They took his jaw?! They tewk 'is jerr!!!!
Yoooo I had that comic has a kid. Memories
The sgt Johnson of the Elites
That stench. I've smelled it before
