@theblackdog643 not quite a movie but I am currently working on a full story video detailing his entire life that goes far beyond what was in this short
I really liked how we got a close look into Jenkins infection by the Flood. His inner struggle was definitely interesting. It’s so bizarre how The Flood book has amazed side stories like these, but the parts adapting CE weren’t very good. With Chief the writer put in details like Chief swaps his weapon, fires x amount of bullets before he reloads, and occasionally picks up a health pack. There were a few interesting moments with Chief, but most ranged from boring to just ok. I really wish we got some books of the other games. It would’ve been cool to see an explanation for how the Amber Clad got infected. It also would’ve allowed the Arbiter to be an actual character during 3. Here’s an interesting bit of trivia about CE. There’s a marine model with a big hole in his chest and in the storyboards where the marine that has the infection form pulled off his chest was then supposed to have his chest ripped open. I wish we could’ve seen that in the game because it would’ve made the Flood seem much worse.
The Flood is such a mixed bag. I think you summed it up very succinctly. The chief sections suck, the new sections are great. Yayap, Zuka, Jenkins, McKay, Silva, all excellent. Even the goofy bit where the author suddenly goes into great detail about a Hunter pair dispatched on The Silent Cartographer was cool. Instead of straight novelizations, they should just look at the side story bits from the flood and write stuff like that for each game. Something like “Halo: Schism” for 2 that literally just goes into detail about side characters.
When you said Chief killed the Hunter pair are you talking about the first one where the author put a bunch of emphasis on their spines and had Chief cut himself on said spines while doing a backflip? Or the one where Zuka and Yayap were hiding in the boxes and a Grunt accidentally killed one with an overcharged plasma pistol? That’s actually a really good title name you came up with. It would be a great opportunity for them to talk about the urban warfare inside High Charity and throughout the fleet before the Flood show up (for whatever weird reason space battles have mostly been in the background of Halo and aside from a few books they haven’t really delved much into how they happen in the setting). It could probably also expand upon the H2A terminals where Spark and the Heretic Elite are talking about what the Rings do and the role of the Arbiter. You could also have some human characters help in the fight on earth and in the Ring before meeting their end defending Amber Clad from the Flood (some others would escape and fight alongside the Elites in the last two missions). There’s plenty of awesome stuff that could be done that sadly hasn’t been.
The hunters I’m referring to are actually named. Ogada Nosa Fassu and Igido Nosa Hurru. There’s a section of the book that actually explores their thoughts and emotions. No emphasis on spines. I believe it’s right around the part where Zuka and Yayap are in the crate but I don’t think that was at the exact same time. I could be misremembering though. Come to think of it, I guess we’ve gotten really select aspects of that concept already. Shadow of Intent details some of what went down when the flood invaded high charity. Ghosts of Onyx elaborates on one elite shipmaster that believed the flood was actually a forerunner creation and that his people should just give in willingly. If I remember right, he was in charge of a large portion of the forces on Delta Halo. Plus it delves into what Fred, Kelly and Linda are up to while Chief is running around through Halo 2. Then there’s Palace Hotel which goes into great detail about a woman Chief sees in new Mombasa while he’s pursuing the scarab. Can’t forget about Armor Testing from Halo The Graphic Novel, which details how chiefs armor got to Cairo Station. The graphic novel also contains Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa, which takes place moments before the covenant arrive on Earth. Human Weakness is another great example, detailing Cortana’s time with gravemind. Halo 3: ODST lol As you mentioned, the terminals themselves do that too, detailing Sesa’s conversation with 343 and the thoughts of a San-Shaun scribe right before the great schism. So I guess, in a way, we’ve sorta already gotten that. Just across multiple pieces of media. I’d always happily take more though.
Halo 1 was my first shooter game back in 2007 as a kid, the mission when you first encounter the flood, it gave me nightmares for weeks as I start freaking out when the flood theme kicks in😅
Man, the story of Jenkins and that one scene where Keyes is trying to fight back mentally while becoming a Prtogravemind... the flood are just terrifying
I remember reading the halo 1 book as a teenager with those chapters. Favorite part of the book was when a pelican pilot got bribed with a ration bar to carry more of a load than was safe from the ship wreckage.
To give more context on the ending, they had actually already taken off from the halo, then were attacked by a group of flood. That ODST realized why Jenkins was right and initially tried to convince the captain to hold up somewhere so they could do a thorough sweep of the ship before heading to earth, but the captain refused because they were focused on the glory they would receive for bringing a covenant capital ship home. So the ODST blew up the ship to protect earth
@@Woodyisasexybeast yeah, and I think you explained what you could pretty well within the short! Just wanted to give more context in case people were curious

Ayo i just played floodgate and discovered some new dialogue from the terrified marine in the corner, its amazing how many details there are in the terminals cause mendicant bias knew about the marines fear of the flood.
It wasn't weak it was old. The difference between a flood form and a pure form. Is Pure Flood is that Pure Flood are created by a Grave Mind being able to change shape and size because they're more likely an ooze. A regular flood form is as strong as the flood who occupies the host. And since the majority of these flood popcorn aren't newly made most of them are just old. So because of its afevit wasn't able to take full control. It's strong still as it's able to mutilate the body.
The fact that he was there with SGT Johnson from Day 1 on Harvest when the covenant made contact. He made all that way, and didn’t deserve to go out like that
Don’t let people fool you. The bungie novels are not the only good ones. The forerunner trilogy for example, are some of the best books in the series and were created during 343’s tenure.
One issue: it wasn’t necessarily that the Flood were trying to use Truth and Reconciliation to escape Installation 04, but that Major Antonio Silva - whose men had captured Flood-Jenkins and were in control of 80% of the ship - wanted to escape the destruction of the Halo WITH INTACT FLOOD SPECIMENS INTENTIONALLY. Flood-Jenkins knew that this action would be catastrophic and tried to lunge for the fiber-optic connections in an attempt to sever them (which would result in a fusion plant meltdown). When his attempt failed, ODST Lieutenant Melissa McKay - having realized what Flood-Jenkins tried to do - resolved herself to do her duty to Earth over Silva’s orders and detonated that grenade, resulting in the destruction of the Covenant cruiser. [“Halo - The Flood”Definitive Edition (Paperback) by William C. Dietz; Section VI, Chapter 12 Page 370-371] While the video is accurate from a broad standpoint, I feel it is missing this critical context at the end. Jenkins was a bit more than a Flood Combat Form wishing for death, and the overall situation aboard the Truth and Reconciliation was a far more direct apocalyptic threat than described, and I merely wish that Jenkins and McKay receive the recognition for their actions in the story that they deserve. Aside from that, this was a great clip and gives important lore to fans who didn’t read the books. 👍
I mean, it’s quite literally stated in the game by Cortana that the covenant are afraid the flood are attempting to repair the ship so that they can escape. So what I said isn’t necessarily incorrect. Also bear in mind that I have to work within the confines of a short, which is limited to 60 seconds. That means some things have to get cut. In this case, the specifics regarding Silva and McKay. I know the grenade wasn’t detonated directly on the reactor but saying that is a lot faster. Besides, what happened was effectively the same thing. As much as I’d like to be really specific, I can’t. I have to save that for more long form content. And thanks!
@@Woodyisasexybeast Let me clarify: While Cortana does express the Covenant’s fears in relation to the state of the cruiser, those fears ultimately didn’t come to pass due to Silva, and since Jenkins’ complete story aboard Installation 04 was only depicted in “The Flood,” I thought it a relevant point. As far as Jenkins and McKay’s final actions, the point I tried to make was in regards to their motivations rather than going too in-depth for the short. I just have a habit of providing more detail than usually necessary so that anyone who read my comment - regardless of the level of lore knowledge they possessed - would understand. Anyways, keep up the good work. I wish that more high-quality Halo books come out too. At this point, I doubt the games will be giving us anything of any worthwhile substance. I’ve been disappointed since Halo 4…
@@Woodyisasexybeast I won’t be holding my breath. Infinite was looking like “a thing of beauty” before it released as well, but we both know how THAT turned out: a Sandbox with a half-assed story and a knock-off Scorpion (MK) grapple cable. At least they had the sense to remove the Saints-Row-4-esque “Death From Above” ground pound, at least in the way they had it in 5.
They should make a Dead Space- like spin off horror game with the flood imo… maybe like a prequel or something… where at the end you activate the first ring
Johnson survived in a different way. An infection form latched on to Jim’s and since his prolonged exposure to plasma bombs his nervous system was so messed up that he could live normally, but the infection form would die any time they tried to infect him,
The transformations in Halo 3 for the flood were the scariest. I remember seeing it for the first time and it gave me nightmare fuel. The Marines freak me out the most when the change
Another part not mentioned in the video (probably because it dark and depressing af..) the part of him that was still him and there tried to kill himself multiple times, but just before he was able to succeed in doing so the infection form would wrestle control back and stop him continuing his tournament…
Of which I'm surprised the rest of the Flood didn't try to destroy that weakened Infector. I struggle to believe they didn't know it was weaker, especially after the Proto Gravemind started to form which would have established a base hive mind connection. Or am I misremembering the order of events of the book? It's been a hot minute since I've read it.
@@WoodyisasexybeastI remember seeing that on my first playthrough of combat evolved anniversary, with mixed feelings considering they were recreating halo for the first time with better graphics for the first time. It's a love hate kinda cutscene
Do we ever find out who the survivor marine was with the pistol in 343 guilty spark? It wasn't Mendoza who appeared to run out because he mentions mendoza and besenti. I think besenti or mendoza ran up the steps and fell and shot himself and thats why there was a body before your enter the room. Weird thing. Is 5 people survived the room. Keyes and Jenkins semi infected, mendoza running out probably the body found on ramp, the pistol marine survivor, body marine fell on chief somehow on door but not infected (maybe jenkins?), and johnson. If I recall there was 8 in there. One died immediately. So only 3 technically died in there?
I never thought about this before. That’s a good question. He appears to be the only unnamed member of the team. The body that fell on Chief definitely shouldn’t have been Jenkins though. He got semi infected pretty quickly and I imagine shambled away. It looks like the body that falls on chief is “Riley”. At least according to halopedia. Hmm.
I noticed very recently that they actually have really disturbing idle animations too. At least with the human forms in halo 3, their mouths open and close in a really grotesque way. It’s pretty creepy and easy to miss because they’re usually busy attacking you
We not gunna talk about the marine who bare handedly ripped an infection form off one of his comrades? The chief struggled to get one off him and got saved by Cortana
Imagine a dlc where you play as jenkins. Slowly the character is consumed by the flood as you make your way to the covenant ship to destroy it. You would have the gravemind whispering to you the entire time.
I think it would be best to play as a different character just to avoid any inevitable inconsistencies that would arise from adapting the book into a game.
@Woodyisasexybeast I'm saying if they rebooted the halo universe but kept all the characters. Changed the story to have more to it. Maybe the prophits are working with the flood after finding a primordial construct giving them directions on how to free them. Add in the base we saw in the arcade game. Find marines through the game to rescue and have it play a role in the story. So many great story's can be told using these characters. They just need to move away from the politics and focus on making a amazing game. Bit they will most likly just make a big steaming pile of trash.
It's unfortunate that almost the entire surviving human force from the Autumn was on the Truth and Reconciliation when they blew it up. Though I'm sure there really wasn't any other way to get off the ring before it was destroyed.
Back when I was in high school I read this novel even did a project on it? I remember this story I got like a C because apparently I couldn't find the plot of the story Since there were multiple plots
Wait, what?! Didn't he try to sever an optical cable that transmitted control orders to parts of the ship?! Didn't the ODST cut that cable instead?! Huh?! Grenade?! What grenade?!
*///WARNING///* *Might be a spoiler for some people* I was away at a military style school to get my GED. While I was there, I went to the library and actually read a book that talked about this. The leader wanted to bring Jenkins to earth or somewhere with civilization using the Sangheili ship, but the second in command (the person that detonated the grenade) used the grenade to blow up the ship and kill all the Flood. After Cheif and Cortana blew up the reactor of a UNSC ship that was stranded, they escaped Alpha Halo (It was one of the halos) and were the only 2 survivors
I actually loved odst compared to other halo games just because I love “squad based” games like ready or not or spacehulk: deathwing, sure halo reach was THE best but I gotta give lots of love to my odst boys, The suit I bear on reach

Halo Epitaph is looking to be a thing of beauty. Here’s to hoping it turns out as good as I’m hoping it will be
@@Woodyisasexybeast I won’t be holding my breath.
I actually like Infinite’s campaign. I also liked ground pound 🤷♂️
Jenkins said thank you too
I read Halo the flood and it was amazing and spooky
If you thought The Flood was creepy, you should read The Mona Lisa from Halo Evolutions. If you haven’t already. It’s very spooky
RIP private Jenkins, he will be remembered
The characters from the prequel books really have it rough in halo lore ong
I remember reading this in the novels.
They should make a Dead Space- like spin off horror game with the flood imo… maybe like a prequel or something… where at the end you activate the first ring
Johnson survived in a different way. An infection form latched on to Jim’s and since his prolonged exposure to plasma bombs his nervous system was so messed up that he could live normally, but the infection form would die any time they tried to infect him,
The plasma grenades thing is actually total nonsense. It was made up by ONI to coverup the fact that he was a Spartan I and had screwy augmentations
Poor jenkins the contact harvest book makes you feel even worse he had such a bad death
Makes me wonder why the ODSTs tried to capture a combat form instead of gunning it down.
Bro the clip of that flood glitching j made me imagine it was part of “crunk aint dead”😂😂😂
I honestly spent an hour looking for his body in the room but knowing what actually happened is far worse than what I could’ve imagined
When I heard Jenkins survived ce I had to look this up
Surviving this virus and controlling it is living hell
The sheer will this guy must've had was far beyond a normal man.
This is the reason why despite master chief is him and the main character he still doesn't wanna mess with the flood
What a G, suffered against the flood to try and save humanity. Jinkens remands me of Goerge from Halo Reach.
The transformations in Halo 3 for the flood were the scariest. I remember seeing it for the first time and it gave me nightmare fuel. The Marines freak me out the most when the change
There’s a really freaky idle animation with them too. They open their mouths and flail around. It’s really creepy but easy to miss
@@Woodyisasexybeast I gotta play it again just to see
Jenkins one day for his birthday wished for immortality but didn't realize in what from that would happen.
Another part not mentioned in the video (probably because it dark and depressing af..) the part of him that was still him and there tried to kill himself multiple times, but just before he was able to succeed in doing so the infection form would wrestle control back and stop him continuing his tournament…
I didn’t include certain aspects simply because shorts are very limited. I only have a minute so I have to trim out lots of stuff
Love the book
Honestly you could consider him still alive since everything he was got absorbed into the hive mind.
Mass Effect:👁👄👁... well at least our Jenkins didn't suffer. Shite dude!
This mission scared me soo much when I was young now I hate it soo much because of the legendary difficulty is a thing lol.
Ill always love the static model flood getting pulled off the marine
I wonder… is that an anniversary bug that never got patched or was that always present? I don’t recall
@@WoodyisasexybeastI remember seeing that on my first playthrough of combat evolved anniversary, with mixed feelings considering they were recreating halo for the first time with better graphics for the first time. It's a love hate kinda cutscene
@dockbrown8129 you’re sure it wasn’t like that in OG CE?
@@Woodyisasexybeast not sure, honestly I just know it's always been like that in c e a
@@Woodyisasexybeast yeah og ce has more animation than anniversary does
Cant wait to hear about his cousin Leroy
Leroy survived because he ran full speed through all of the flood
All these years i thought the poor kid was used for biomass. Didnt realize he was held prisoner in his own body
Hmm.
the bent heads of the infected soldiers, elite or human, make me genuinely sick to this day
I noticed very recently that they actually have really disturbing idle animations too. At least with the human forms in halo 3, their mouths open and close in a really grotesque way. It’s pretty creepy and easy to miss because they’re usually busy attacking you
Goddamn it, Leroy.
I read the novel that has his experience as the b plot it’s crazy
Yep, that’s what this is from. There’s some wild stuff in that book
For all the the power they had and a frag can take out a capital ship
The Flood and the Green Flu are both my favorite corrupting pathogens; now what if they were to mix?
What is the green flu?
A reboot is a terrible idea. Absolute worst case scenario
He tried to kill himself multiple times but everytime he was seconds away from doing it the flood would take control again
I just noticed his face floating on the side of the screen
Boo
It's unfortunate that almost the entire surviving human force from the Autumn was on the Truth and Reconciliation when they blew it up. Though I'm sure there really wasn't any other way to get off the ring before it was destroyed.
RIP to those ODST operators who gave their lives to stop the flood
Reading his thoughts in the books was horrifying.
Back when I was in high school I read this novel even did a project on it? I remember this story I got like a C because apparently I couldn't find the plot of the story Since there were multiple plots
I remember reading that in the book. Didn't he kinda have a thing for that ODST member?
Not that I recall. He didn’t really have a chance to like her because he was infected through the whole story.
I like how ai in halo look around I find it kind of cute
R.I.P private Jenkins 🫡
Both him and Captain keys were strong men
If you could make this long by adding a bunch of fluff and make it a bit more grimdark it would be a perfect 40K story
W ODST Honestly love odst’s man. Always tried to save them in all of the halo 3 missions
Wait, what?! Didn't he try to sever an optical cable that transmitted control orders to parts of the ship?! Didn't the ODST cut that cable instead?! Huh?! Grenade?! What grenade?!
She detonated a grenade by it, yes. I said “reactor” to simplify it for the short. She absolutely killed him and herself with a nade though.
Jenkins is a chad
rip kenkins he died happy
The narration on this makes it seem like this really happened to someone. I'm sure it did in some universe just not ours so its sounds funny.
The book describes all of this perfectly
Ok? Some people don’t read the books
@@Woodyisasexybeast ok? Some people do read the books and would agree. Im just complimenting the books, not dogging on the video. Calm urself
My statement was very calm. No different than yours.
@@Woodyisasexybeast the very fact u began ur comnent with "ok?" Is attempting to undermine my own comment for no reason, i just responded in kind
@InfmsKon I think you’re reading into it way too much. “Ok?” Is literally just confusion. Completely innocuous
First time playing this was something
this is still better than Headcrabs.
They really should’ve animated the CE remastered flood
Yeah, it looks janky. I wonder if it was animated in the original CEA release and just broke in MCC? I don’t remember, unfortunately
Flood = Necromorphs
Master Cheef = Doom Guy
Looks like a new dance move...😂
*///WARNING///*
*Might be a spoiler for some people*
I was away at a military style school to get my GED.
This is all from the novelization of Halo CE, the book is called The Flood
@Woodyisasexybeast
Yea, "The Flood" was the name of it. I knew I remembered the name
@@Woodyisasexybeast
*Read above comment*
I actually loved odst compared to other halo games just because I love “squad based” games like ready or not or spacehulk: deathwing, sure halo reach was THE best but I gotta give lots of love to my odst boys, The suit I bear on reach
Sad thing is Jenkins was a basass,.but the flood broke him.
