How to find the GREAT TRANGO guaranteed!
The Great Trango is quite simply, the single best 1H sword that can be found in The Zodiac Age. With 153 Attack and 90 Evade, it will unleash havoc on your enemies. Great combined with the powerful Gendarme Shield.

The normal spawn rate for The Great Trango is 1 in 10,000 (1/100 for chest * 1/100 for sword to appear in the chest) but that just won't do! Fortunately, the RNG in Final Fantasy XII can be manipulated perfectly by using Reks to change the in-game variables to the player's favour.

One thing I would add, is that you can use Reks to manipulate the spawn of pretty much any item in the game - there are even third party tools available to help you find the Cure values that you need but I will leave that for another time.

Final Fantasy 12 was first released way back in 2006 on the PS2. At the time, it was considered somewhat controversial by many Final Fantasy fans due to its departure from traditional FF gameplay. However, it is now looked back on fondly and many would consider Final Fantasy XII to be the best entry in the franchise. In 2007 the International Zodiac edition was released (in Japan only), and this version of the game included a more traditional job-based system and a new battle areana. For this remastered release, these additional changes are being brought to us fans in the West for the first time ever - along with high resolution textures and remastered soundtrack!

Late to the party here but one thing that helped me keep my sanity doing the saves is that you don't have to keep running to the crystal then away from the crystal. Stay next to the crystal and use Square to open the menu to heal yourself and use Cross (X) to interact with the crystal for MP. This makes it easier to do it in 4x speed.
Great walkthrough, thank you. I got three of these swords for my party.
I did take me a couple of tries at first. I forgot to turn off gambits, and also forgot to dispel the buffs on my character. Once I remembered those two things, it worked perfectly. I was lucky enough to only spend a couple of minutes on each Reks portion getting the 97/88/86 combo.

@@FuzzfingerGaming hey fuzz, I have a question. The Seitengrat worked for me but somehow this didn't. Does the brawler ability mess up my chances? All my chars have their licenseboards maxed. I've done everything as you said.

Thank you so much for your clear instructions!!! I was able to get one; I had tried getting the bow a month ago but gave up after many tries. This sword was much easier to get.
mdablemont same but go watch his version 2 video for the bow it does work. I gave up a month ago thinking youtubers are just lucky or hacking but his method guarantees it.
For those wondering, the numbers are the same every time. Sequence 97, 88, 86 appears at cure #47-49 always.

Actually, the official strategy guide from Primagames states that the chest itself has a 40% spawn chance and with the Diamond Armlet equipped, it has 5% chance of containing the sword.
Don’t know if the guide made an error there but if it’s correct, then the odds aren’t as low as 1/10000..

I had to dispel prior to manipulating the RNG. Got a knot of rust on the first try, then Gil a second time.
Third time is a charm and I got the Great Trango 😁🙌

Got knots of rust for ages before realising I had gambits on and a bunch of status buffs. Gambits off, dispel, re-autosaved. 1st time. Phew!
It finally worked. The only difference from what I can tell is that I got the 97, 88, 86 combo without having to go to the save crystal in between to replenish my MP. I got all three in one “cycle”.
Thank you, tried this today(feb/2020) and it worked, got 3 in less than 30 minutes.
As of January 22nd 2021 this still works. Getting the reks healing sequence is not that hard it will take about 5 to 7 refreshes at the save crystal with reks to get the heal numbers required , next for those that dont understand hitting yourself for 0 damage pushes you down the RNG list by 10 spots. 4 times speed with reks as well it should take you about 5 minutes max to hit the numbers. the reks numbers are for the chest to spawn hit yourself cure you will get it 100%
Go and steal it from Zodiark to get the full satisfaction... Quite difficult to escape the fight with the sword! 😅

As of October 2020 this is still working and I think exploiting this actually increases the chance of the the ACTUAL great Trango chest spawning considering it literally spawned after I walked in and out of the room to auto save the progress for this. So be sure to be on the lookout for that.

Finally got it to work as of 07/28/2020. The hard part was the cure sequence, I read in the comments hit 3 or 5 times and that didn’t work, it took me an hour. I tried not hitting and it worked within a minute of cure casting. Try what will work for you I guess.

great! Works perfectly :) one thing though, you can actually kill magick pot whithout having an elixir. This is not recommended though, because it has very powerful magick attacks like flare and that can easly kill you. You will need a very high magick avade, the Shield Gendarme is recommended. On top of that you can't hit it With normal attacks only tecknicks i think so a good gambit is foe nearest visible telekinesis on Three characters. Remember dont do this at first encounter in Pharos, wait till Your high Level if fighting magick pot this way.

Here after getting the Wyrmhero blade, and it went to Basch, :). This one is going to vaan.
I never got the wyrmhero blade in the original ps2 game, but it was somewhat easily accessible in the remastered in level 50 of the trial mode. I wanted to give Basch, Vossler's blade, but plot points had other plans and threw it in the trash.

One small detail how i messed up once...i had bubble on Ashe,did the kick then cured,gambit was ON and she cast bubble because hp went down,opened the chest and got 3gil...turn off your gambits just in case:)

Thing about the cures, they aren't even RNG. They're constant. Count the 97s that come out, on the 8th 97, the sequence will come out.

I did it without the Reks method, just zoning in a few times. After 15x I spawned the chest, RNG helper to set up the 100% drop. Also Gil toss on magic pot works wonders.
Edit: Ok first one was lucky, second drop took waaaaay longer 3>

I just got my second one but here's the wierd thing about that, I didn't do zero damage like you said, then again I had no armor on at all, I figured that actually taking any damage at all would screw up the RNG.
Update: Just got my third one, Thought taking damage and getting #2 was a fluke, it wasn't.

First of all, great and helpful videos. I'm a bit confused by the cure numbers with Reks though. I've seen at least 3 different sequences that others have posted on different sites. Is this the only sequence of numbers that works, or are there different possibilities? (I hope so, because I can't seem to get 97 at all, lol.)

Awful_GamingHD there are no other invisible weapons. Seitengrat is a developer weapon and has been in the game since the original ff12. There are no others, would have been data mined by now

I’ve followed this to the T three times and I keep getting knot of rust or Gil.
try to get rid of that megaelixir chest first if not spawned right away then spawn it heading in an out. remember Diamond armlet equipped and maybe equip the same gear as him and use ashe. No weapons in hand and no beneficial statuses. then follow exact same instructions.
Hm, the Seitengrat one worked but this one didnt for me. I looted the Megaelixir already the first time I was there and that chest doesnt seem to respawn. I was able to spawn the chest w the Trango, but after punching myself for 0 damage and using cure the loot was something other than trango (it wasnt a knot of rust either). I'll reset RNG and try again.
Edit: 3 attempts, still nothing. 😕 Definitely something off about the RNG, but I dunno what. The cure before opening the chest is always different, and the last time I tried it the self attack was a 4 hit combo. Everything is done step by step but the chest just isnt a guaranteed Trango.
Steam version only needs to use Draklab and install the giza plains epic chests mod. Ah how wonderful it is to have mods. It is even better because i have rex in the party thanks to a mod.
It doesn't work in the latest build but it might've been patched since the recording... It's now February of 2018 but the seitengrat method still works and bad news is I already beat zodiark

No matter what I do, the megaelixir doesnt spawn? maybe i picked it up at an earlier stage?...do i keep running in and out of rooms till it spawns again?
I have done what the vid and cannot get it. The only thing different is I grabbed the megaelixir awhile back in the game. I wanna get this sword but all I get is Gil or knot of rust. I even tried with and without diamand bracket.
Sweet now I can link it to you're video. :P BTW 90% of the time you can steal elixir back from Magic Pot. Also Hitting yourslef 2-3 times at the start will speed up the process quite a bit.
