How to get the SEITENGRAT BOW guaranteed!
In my previous video on this subject I demonstrated a valuable method for attaining this coveted weapon and I am pleased it helped so many. However a new method has now been discovered (see credit below) which guarantees the chest spawn each time, and so long as the player's timing is correct - the bow too!
The normal spawn rate for this weapon is 1 in 10,000 (1/100 for chest * 1/100 for bow in chest) but that just won't do! Fortunately, the RNG in Final Fantasy XII can be manipulated perfectly by using Reks to change the in-game variables to the player's favour.

One thing I would add, is that you can use Reks to manipulate the spawn of pretty much any item in the game - there are even third party tools available to help you find the Cure values that you need but I will leave that for another time.

Final Fantasy 12 was first released way back in 2006 on the PS2. At the time, it was considered somewhat controversial by many Final Fantasy fans due to its departure from traditional FF gameplay. However, it is now looked back on fondly and many would consider Final Fantasy XII to be the best entry in the franchise. In 2007 the International Zodiac edition was released (in Japan only), and this version of the game included a more traditional job-based system and a new battle areana. For this remastered release, these additional changes are being brought to us fans in the West for the first time ever - along with high resolution textures and remastered soundtrack!

I played the game and got quite far in it the real way years ago on the PS2 version so I finally wanted to beat this game so I used the heck out of those invisible bows for all party members. The game was brutal to me back in the day and so it felt good to reverse that!

I know I am really late to this but I managed to get three of these bows today on PS5 with the help of this video (28/11/2022). Can’t thank you enough for it, really clear and I also found the whole method of manipulating RNG really interesting. Never knew you could do this in FF12 until now, great video! :)
After watching this, decided to give it a try, had laar or whatever his name in the party as a guest, needless to say, after making the reks save and getting the actual file to the auto save on the airship. Did the combo 88 97 90, took Maybe 30 seconds to get that combo on high speed 4, exited out went straight up, was the chest, waiting till he got up on the stairs for the forth time. Bam got the bow. Note you need to count the first time you pass him running to the chest as well, first try no warm up
Carnage Sensation thanks for the tip about passing the man. I missed it first time I watched the video. Will try this again once I get back in from work. Hopefully its still working. Note to anyone that doesn't get the numbers....save the reeks file, then COMPLETELY exit the game back to desktop the restart the game. I spent 2.5hrs trying to get the number chain only to find I hadn't quit out and restarted. When I did I had the chain within 1 minute!

As of March 15, 2018 this method has worked for me. 3x in a row after trying various other methods. Side note-- I had Reddas in my party when I did this, still worked fine if anyone is curious. Good luck!!

Got it ALMOST on my first try. Had to reload my Reks save once, as the Cure combo just wasn't showing up. But it absolutely works.

If you're trying this but you dont get it you could be one or two problems:
1) you're counting the number of times the guy comes up incorrectly. In the video you only see him come up three times but the video guy counts to 4. Video just doesnt show the first time and you dont see it either unless you just look for him. So when you're running up to the chest counts as 1.
2) you could be opening the chest TOO quickly. If you're trying to account for the input lag to your ps4 or xbox, in a real world scenario you'd have to press the button WHILE the guy is coming up the last set of steps so that he stops right at the top of the stairs. But this is WRONG. The game actually gives you a LOT of time to open the chest - a good half second if not more. So just take it easy and wait for the guy to fully make it to the top of the stairs before you open the chest.
OMG THIS 100% worked! My jaw literally dropped when I did this on my first try! Thank you and whomever discovered this method. Absolutely genius and fantastic!

Just wanted to pitch in and verify. Another commenter said he thought perhaps the fact that his Reks' HP/MP was a couple off from the video's, it might be a problem. My mana is off by 2 and I was still successful (I think the 23 magic power is all that matters). Also, other commenters are correct in that if you don't get the heal sequence in a couple of minutes, do a hard restart (close the application) to put yourself in another sequence rotation. Very successful -- before I read those comments, I'd sat there for almost an hour trying. Knowing that trick, I get the sequence consistently and without stress. Also the timing with the guy reaching the top of the stairs is critical. Missed it the first time by a split second and got gil -- every time I get it dead on, I get Seitengrat. Would also like to confirm this is still 100% after patch 1.02. And thank you for sharing, Fuzz.

Had the exact same problem. Spent an hour trying to get the numbers. Reset the game and started getting them instantly.
Thank you very much for creating this video. This method work for me on Sep 18, 2018 during my first try. I got the number sequence within 10 cures too! Will try to obtain 3.

Still works Dec 11 2019. I found disconnecting from internet helped get the right numbers with Reks.

Thank you sooooo much! I had trouble with the healing numbers but read that you can use 97 94 95 too, which worked for me after every 5-10 heals.
personally I found it more easy to combine this spawn trick with the running kid timing.

Can confirm these numbers are WAY easier for me to get too - three chests in 5 minutes. Edit: More information - when you get the chest to spawn this way, you can't watch the man as stated in the video - I only had luck watching the boy that runs back and forth on the side of the upper deck. When he stops at his father the 4th time hit the button.
FOr me the man works better than the child, when you reach the chest the man already went up the stair once, so you need to count 3 more time, the man is also more lenient when pressing the button when he's up the stairs.
Funny how everyone says they've done it in seconds or minutes and I've tried both combinations for over an hour on 2 separate occasions and can't even get 2 numbers in a row.......I can't even barely get an 88 or 97 first
If you can't get the number combinations in the first like 20 tries, just restart the application and try anew. In my experience the random number generator changes with a different set every restart.
It works still, first two tries with this method and literally as soon as the guys feet hit the top of the stairs planted firmly on the ground the fourth time open it, I was skeptical but it really works.
27/06/2019....still work. If ur like me after trying the reks heal combo about 2min and not getting either number combinations just completely restart application and try again. Did that on my first restart and boom. 2nd the 4 count of the dude going up and down the stairs start when your approaching him which counts as one...now i'ma go 1 shot everything:)
I can say that as of today June 7, 2019. Version 1.07, Spanish language and on a physical copy of the game on a PS4 Slim. This method worked incredibly nice!

to get the exact same cure numbers your Reek needs to also have 42 MP. I tried with a Reek that had only 38 MP and I did not get the correct order for nearly an half hour. If you start a new game and your reek does not have 42 MP, then close the application via PS4 menu, and start it again and start a new game. btw, for 40 MP the cure numbers are "97 94 95". after I found this out I got the Bow two times in a row on first try. just keep in mind, the MP value matters. depending on the MP value you will get the cure numbers in different orders.
Thank u. My mp was 44 and 97 never even showed up. So I loaded up a Reks with 42mp and the numbers showed up in less than a minute

Still works 3/23/2019, make sure you have 42mp or you will need different cure numbers. I kept starting new games till I got a Reks with 42mp
What about HP I have been this with reks at 42 mp but different hp and its been a full hour and still not getting the numbers.
I did this today with 41mp and the numbers worked
WORKED! had trouble getting the 88 97 90 to show, tried for about 20-25 minutes and was losing my mind, read a comment about closing out the game entirely back to the PS dashboard and reloading the save file, did exactly that and then got it on my 4th MP replenish and got the bow first try! i've watched quite a few of your guide videos since i started playing FF12 and you've been a huge help!!
This worked for me on my ps5 (January 2022) the last method didn’t work for me, glad I finally got my hands on it to make grinding quicker

I can guarantee that today, 11/03/2019 this method works, 100%. I was at first very skeptic since I tried and tried and tried, like 50 times the previous one Fuzz explained, but I had no success. This one works. I got the second time I tried!! I got two in 10 minutes ( I thought the would sell well but Seitengrat is worth 0 guil xD)

I just got the game for Xbox one x, I finally got the numbers, exited to the main menu and loaded my save file and the chest didn't spawn, I hope this method works on Xbox one but so far I might be sool

Seriously? Everyone I watch do this gets the right combination in like a few minutes. I did this shit for hours off and on and not once got the right combo.
Try for some minutes and then close the app and restart the heal chain on Reks if you didn't get it.

Chris Smith. I have the worst of luck with these things normally and I was pretty skeptical at first, but managed to get 3 within a few minutes. Just make sure that you follow everything to the letter. Make sure everyone around the save crystal is dead and don't save at the save crystal; only use it to replenish your MP. Also make sure that before starting this step you have completely closed the game (not just exited to the main PS screen). It's probably just psycological, but I found standing near the save crystal just to the right worked best. But it should work within a few minutes. If not, restart your game (or even maybe your console?)
This method is also used for the Great Trango and Gendarme.
For me I had to go up a level and kill everyone then go back down and save I couldn't get above 94 before

And yes, to get max 42mp just start new games until it says 42 when you start.
The values are spot on! Do this to the t and you will grt as many as needed!
It doesn't matter what speed you do this on either. As long as you get 88,97,90 and then hit the x button right at the 4th time for the guy on the stairs!

Wish I still had this game..... From what I remember.... You have to hit a CERTAIN NUMBER SEQUENCE...... not just heal for hours.... Smh. Follow it verbatim. It works. You're just not listening....... I vividly remember doing this. Not my fault if you can't follow directions. =.(

First it took me 15min without getting the numbers 88.97.90 in order until i saw a comment telling that bein offline helps.
I disconnected my ps4 reload again and got the numbers in the right order in less the 4min.

Seems like the chances of getting 88, 97 and 90 in a row are about as high as trying to get the weapon without any tricks. Stood there for over an hour and I couldn't even get 88 and 97.
I don't get it how do you figure out the RNG values. Never explained how you figure it out?
A little late, but these methods comes from PS2. There were a lot of methods for manipulate RNG and I guess this thing works the same for Zodiac Age. They just mess with the numbers in the game archives. In the end, RNG are not other but commands that activate or deactivate specific results at calculations for the game that leads to get something or other thing.
It worked for me. I thank you FuzzFingerGaming for this loop-trick. If it us of any use to anyone, the sequence of healing points numbers with reks maybe is related to the time in the game. At was ot minute 08. And the guy running up the stairs wasn't already heading to the left, but was just with two feet in the upper deck, so it is probably a matter of one whole second, not a super high precise moment. Thank you again. I use sequence 88-97-90 anyway, like the video and my party was with 3 members, so nothing unusual. Hope everyone can get this annoying bow.
I did exactly as you did in the video, same rng numbers from the Cure spell, Diamond Armlet equipped and the dude coming up the stairs a 4th time.
Conclusion: it does work 100% of the time!

Okay, it's official you have saved my mind!!! I tried so many dumb methods to do this. I tried the original version, I tried waiting for 20 seconds and then exiting back into the lounge like Mage Masher had, I tried the 32 steps method, I tried the 7 zones in and out, and I spent 14 hours straight trying to get this bow. Worked for me on PS5, using 4X speed as of today Jan. 20, 2024. Took 4 tries, then I got it 3x in a row. Awesome video, cheers
2020 pc cheat engine TZA method still works and the bow is extremely powerful and makes the game stupidly easy. If you wanna have a challenge I recommend you never use this bow for your full gameplay. Makes the zodiac spear from original FF12 PS2 look like nothing.

Does it work on the switch version
No because the Switch version doesn’t have static RNG so the RNG is reset every screen load. GameFAQs users are working on a workaround. In the meantime you have to contend with that 1/100 chance chest spawn. Basically it’s like the PC version but without the cheat mode. As for the "man on the stairs" step I actually did get one doing that but I think I was just super lucky because every other attempt failed, and I made sure I had the man screenshot-perfect.

Had no memory of how to do this but just tried this on my new playthrough after completing about everything else in the game except gathering the invisible weapons and it worked on the first try. Excellent!
Holy shit!!!!! It just worked. Using the exact method. 88, 97 and 90. With the guy walking up and down the stairs. Keep in mind you count 1 because you pass the guy up the stairs on the way to the chest.

Origin777 yes absolutely. i literally just found this video 30 mins ago, followed the method precisely, and now my party is fully stacked with 6x bows.
Other people in the comments have mentioned a few things i’ll reiterate here for you, since the rng manipulation trick worked every single time for me but it took several times for me to get the timing right on when to open the chest.
Make sure you count the NPC the first time you encounter him on your way up the stairs (you pass him while he’s on the stairs, and by the time you reach the chest and angle the camera appropriately to watch the NPC, he’ll be on top of the steps for the first of those four times).
The fourth time he comes up the steps, open the chest directly as he makes his left turn. My issue was opening the chest the moment he got to the top of the steps (but before beginning to turn direction), which ended up giving me 10gil twice.
The timing on it doesn’t even need to be EXACTLY where you see it in this video; i still got the bow by opening the chest a half second or so after. From my experience, it’s all about the NPC’s fourth stair ascension + him turning left to begin walking to the railing he stands at whilst not moving up and down the steps.
Lastly, with regard to the RNG manipulation curing chains of 88, 97, and 90 on your Reks save file, i believe the first time you utilize it you’re guaranteed to get those three numbers in correct order pretty quickly. However, if you happen to mess up the timing of opening the chest upon loading your main save on the airship (getting gil or a knot of rust instead of the bow), make sure to completely exit out of the application before reloading the Reks file. Otherwise, it was impossible for me to get the curing chain combo i needed. Same rule applies to getting multiple bows; as soon as you get one, exit the airship deck and re-enter it once more (so as to overwrite the previous quick save file), completely close down the application, reopen it and then load your Reks file. This will enable you to get the sequence of cures again easily, exit to main screen, reload back to airdeck, and get another bow.

Still works in quarentimes 2020, you're the best. Can't stress enough how much you need to switch off your internet, the numbers wouldn't ping for ages for me then I switched off the internet and it worked 3 times (got timing wrong on runner twice). You're amazing man.

I couldn’t get the sequence 88 97 90 for the longest time, but after closing the application from the PS4 menu and trying again it worked right away!
I also found it worked using the sequence 97 94 95, then waiting for the boy to talk to his Dad four times, opening the invisible chest on the 4th trip right when he stops to talk to his Dad. I waited 20 seconds at the door of the sky deck before going up the stairs on the 97 94 95 sequence with the boy/Dad timing. The key for me was knowing the boy talked to his Dad as I was coming up the stairs which meant I needed to count 3 additional trips from that point. If you let him go a 5th time you get the dreaded knot of rust!
After I figured that out I was able to get 6 Seitengrat’s in about 15 minutes without any issues!

Just got it to work first try. I wasn’t getting the numbers to pop up so I closed the application and reset the game. Got the numbers in a few minutes and then the rest worked like a charm

Even in July 2021 this guide is still good on PS4 also the RGN numbers that they are talking about is the the green color numbers that Reks is healing him self is showing up.

After a lot of trial and error trying various methods to get the Seitengrat bow. Me and my son eventually got 3 in within a matter of minutes. The 88,97 90 rng sequence wasn't working on our ps4 console, and we tried the 97,94,95 sequence instead , and on our first try, we landed the invisible chest Seitengrat first time. We repeated the sequence to more times, and again, we landed the legendary bow. My take away from all of the trial and error is that if one sequence doesn't work, chances are the next sequence might. Just done it, I confirm that reloading the game seems to reshuffle the random numbers generator. Tried curing for 10mins, no 88/97/90 combination, restarted and got the numbers after a few tries. Easy trial stages here we come! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Worked perfectly today 9 March 2020! Got 10 Gil the first 2 times. Then I realized, that i pressed just a bit too early, so the guy was just not quite completely up the stairs. So for all having the same issues, press x when the guy has both feet on the ground and has cleared the stairs completely. Thank you mate! Great stuff!
very nearly saved over my main save game again, made 2 saves just in case before I made the reks one, thank god, couldn't deal with starting over again, but not getting the numbers, am gonna keep on trying, thanks for such simple walkthroughs
Fuzz I have watched so many of your videos I hear your voice in my head! This worked as of 2/29/2020 using this exact technique just make sure as you go up the stairs towards the chest that you count the man already being on his first trip. So count 3 more full trips and BAM...beautiful bow!
I got it! Thank you so much! I actually got the 88, 97, 90 numbers on my first attempt but got the timing wrong with the guy walking up the stairs. Then when I finally managed to get the three number combo again, I got it on my second try. Excited to see how it'll work, though I'm in late game so it might not do that much. But still really happy that I got it!
Brilliant. This is perhaps the ultimate weapon so should be useful even in the final parts of the game!
Wanted to add 3 major notes:Confirmed working on version 1.05. If not getting the numbers right away, close the game entirely and get a new sequence going.Timing for stair guy is roughly when his foot hits the green top
Worked like a charm. It really works, the last part is timing though, open the chest half a second after both his feet are on the top deck, opening it immediately MAY be a tad too soon and the chest will just give you 10 gil

Thank u toke a couple of try’s for the timing up the stairs but I got it! the game designers are crazy but I bet they never believed someone even crazier would spend countless hours mapping out the rng system!!! Probs to u guys for letting the rest of us know
I found it best to hit X to open the chest the moment he goes to turn after reaching the top rather then when he reached the top. Thanks for the videos BTW!

DAMN worked for me FIRST TRY thanks so much. I think for timing to press x, don't guess by looking at this video and how it seems he waits a split second after guy reaches top, you gotta press x literally on the guy's first step on top, and the animation of guy plays for a split second longer, so don't try to copy this video on timing, just press soon as he reaches top of stairs
03/25/2019, can confirm this still works 100%. Make sure to replicate exactly what he shows, including reks' stats. If you start a new game with Reks having different stats, start a new game till you come up with 42mp. Managed to get 6 Seitengrats in 15 minutes. Thank you!

In case anyone wonders - I can confirm that this still works on version 1.07 on the PS4 (as of May 22, 2019). Also, my Reks had 41mp and it still worked like a charm.
Please help me buddy, I can't get the cure values. I'll get like 88, 96, 91 instead of 88, 97, 90. I have tried every method and been at this for like 4 days. Nothing. I have had the chest spawn and clicked on it when the boy stops but I just can't get it. Please please please help me.

Just want to point something out here if someones trying to get multiple seitengrat but arent getting the numbers right away: If you start a new a reks file, get to the save crystal, close the game then start trying for number combo's, the beginning number combos will always be the same. So in my case for instance, I have an early number combination for 88, 97, 90 where I only need to use the crystal twice, I get my first seitengrat, generate a new autosave where im on the deck, close the application, number farm only using the crystal twice, rinse repeat. Also confirmed working on v1.06
